With the rain dripping off the edge of her hood, Leah remained perched on a particularly thick branch. The assassin hadn’t been moving for the past two hours, with absolute certainty that the caravan would be ambling by below her. The route she was waiting at was the only route towards the Sombras Manor, a supposedly haunted and uninhabited place. The lights would flicker on every once in a while in the place, as reported by the locals staying in the surrounding areas. She had no idea if the rumors were real, but what she knew for sure was that it was going to be used as the meeting place for two drug lords, to split their territories and to avoid further bloodshed between the two.

Leah chuckled softly when she finally heard the rumble of the caravan below her, making a mental note of the observations. Three caravans passed beneath her. All of them were the same make and design. But it was the one in the center that Leah paid particular attention too. It was a rather simple caravan, entirely black with some silver piping here and there, and was driven by a person in a large hooded cloak as his only protection against the weather. Another person sat beside the driver, wearing the same heavy raincoat. His posture indicated that he was alert, as was his head that seemed to turn left and right despite the same drab background everywhere he looked.

She knew who it was in the middle caravan, a shady businessman by the name of Westdin. Appearing as an honest to God businessman by day, the man was actually one of the movers of the Fiore underworld. As one so powerful, his protection detail for the night was particularly thin, extremely confident that none would dare attack him, from both the light and dark side. As she moved from her perch, slowly moving on all fours along the branch, she managed to catch a glimpse of the well-lit interior of the caravan, spying two men sitting facing Westdin himself. In the three caravans, she counted a total of 12 guards.

And then she pounced. Leaping off highly from her treetop perch, Leah drew an arc across the night sky before landing solidly in a half kneel, on the top of the middle carriage. She hadn’t planned on a stealthy approach, despite her profession. Her right hand reached for her firearm holstered to her right thigh and whipped it out immediately, aiming for the driver of the last caravan. She fired thrice, only requiring one bullet to find its mark. Blood erupted from the bullet wound in the man’s cheek as his head snapped back. His hands loosened on the reins and the immediately the horses ran amok, triggered by the gunshots.

In their confusion, the horses veered off course and dragged the caravan along with them off the path, while the guards within poured out of the carriage in time. The three gunshots had alarmed the other caravans as well, prompting to suddenly shout and for the guards to rush out of their carriages. A sword pierced through the leather roof of the middle caravan, definitely aiming for Leah but the girl just moved slightly to the right and swung her left forearm at the sword, breaking it off easily. She lined up the gun muzzle to the side of the hole created by the sword and fired off multiple shots, drawing out angry cries and a few wails. She had hit one of them.

But she wasn’t able to deal with Westdin and the other guard first. The guard sitting at the front with the driver had vaulted up the roof. His hands were crackling with electricity, striking a menacing pose with his palms opened by the side of his body. Leah cracked a grin at the sight. The two of the acted at the same time, the guard pushing his open palms forward towards Leah while the girl somersaulted into the air by pressing down on the outstretched arms, and spinning in the air to unleash a roundhouse kick to the mage’s head. A thwack sounded out and the mage was thrown off the roof onto the ground, not yet unconscious but definitely taking a time out for a few minutes.

Leah could feel the magic in the air, realizing that the one she had kicked down wasn’t the only mage. There were three more, as evidenced by the other three men whose hands were crackling with electricity as well. The assassin smirked, mentally condemning Westdin for having a preference towards mages with lightning mage. If he had chosen a more balanced approach instead of a full lightning line-up, they might perhaps stand a chance against her. A ball of lightning was thrown in her direction, but the girl merely evaded it, not yet wishing to reveal her trump card.

However, from behind her, a lightning net flew at her, no doubt a stun and capture spell that would work on anyone else other than her. Before the net could even touch her, Leah swiped it with her left hand clad in black lightning, pulling the lightning net out of the air and then putting it to her mouth. The lightning net disappeared within a few gulps, the black lightning around her left hand flaring up suddenly. Westdin and his guards were dumbstruck at her feat, before they came to the realization about her magic powers.

But Leah wasn't losing this opportunity when they were all confused. With a speed graced by the lightning coursing through her, Leah leapt off from the top of the caravan and aimed a flying sidekick at the mage that was standing beside Westdin. The other two were off to another side. The kick connected with a crack, her feet having found the mage’s ribs and breaking three of them. The man howled in pain as he dropped to the ground. The moment her feet found ground again, Leah was once again on the move.

A burst of black lightning was all that they saw as Leah appeared behind two of the non-mage guards, their swords already pulled out. They were completely caught unaware when Leah’s left arm clamped down on one of their necks, slowly strangling the man as she brought her forearm and bicep closer to each other while she fired two bullets at the other guard. The first bullet merely grazed the side of his waist while the other embedded itself in his left arm, causing him to stumble backwards. But this ordinary guard proved to be hardier than even the mages.

Gritting his teeth, the guard charged forward with his wide sweeping slashes, not afraid to hurt his own comrade in exchange for one strike on the assassin. Leah smirked and released her grip on the guard she held, kicking him in the back into the flurry of slashes. As expected, the guard couldn’t hold back in time and ended up hacking his own partner while Leah leapt into the air and fired off three more shots, hitting the man’s right shoulder. He dropped to one knee, dropping his sword while his arms hung uselessly by the side of his body.

Leah spun clockwise in place, bringing her right leg up and smashing her heel into the side of the guard’s head, the force from the kick breaking his neck. Two bolts of lightning flew in her direction and she quickly skipped back a few paces, as the area exploded with lightning, the air sizzling with electricity. Leah opened her mouth again and inhaled, absorbing the residual electricity from the air until there was none left. The four remaining non-mage guards rushed at her, weapons raised, hoping to subdue her with numbers.

But they were too much unskilled. Although she may lack the firepower that she used to wield, the ways of a master assassin were still ingrained in her. The first two guards performed commendably, synchronizing their attacks as each performed a horizontal slash in opposing directions. One aimed for her neck while the other her torso, but Leah wasn’t to be outdone by such a simple maneuver. She skipped backwards, just out of the weapon’s range, feeling the swords slice by harmlessly. With a flick of her hands to her back and then to the front, the assassin had pulled out the dual combat daggers sheathed behind her back and threw them forward.

The guard on the left was hit in the chest while the right guard took it to his thigh, both dropping to the ground on their knees, only held up by sticking their swords into the soft ground to keep themselves upright. Leah rushed forward, simultaneously pulling out her daggers and was to throw out a punch to each of them when she was blasted backwards by lightning in the shape of a bull. She took it full, sending her into a tree with a loud thud.

“And I thought of leaving you guys for the end,” Leah spit as she regained her footing. It had been the mage she kicked down earlier, smirking. The remaining two mages were standing behind him, and swung their hands at the same time, sending out ten spears of lightning in her direction. It was amusing to say the least, for them to not realize her powers after two demonstrations but that was to be expected of the lower level thugs.

Sheathing her weapons, Leah spread her hands open, clad with black lightning and grabbed the lightning spears out of the air, before bringing them up to her mouth as though they were meat skewers. The smirk on the lead mage dropped when it finally hit him.

“You are… a slayer!” the man shouted accusingly. To which Leah merely grinned, “Excuse me. A god slayer, to be exact.”

And then she zapped across the distance with her entire body clad in black lightning, as though the avatar of an angry demon. Leah landed just right between the lead mage and his two backup, dropping to the ground and pulling a sweeping kick to throw them off their feet. When she was back in her original position after her spin, facing the leading mage guard directly, Leah pulled back his right arm, black lightning coalescing within her palm before thrusting it forward into the mage’s chest, hitting with an explosive burst of lightning that sent the man sliding back towards the tree that Leah had crashed into earlier. The mage not only hit his back but his head as well, knocking him out of the fight.

The two mages got back to their senses quickly after their fall and used the chance to create chains of lightning to capture Leah. The female assassin’s body jerked slightly when the lightning chains connected with her limbs and neck. And she was furious. Instead of being stunned by the lightning, Leah stood up back up slowly and turned around to face the two mages, who were trembling. The glow from the lightning allowed Leah to catch the fear in their eyes. The four mages of lightning magic had probably never met someone who could take them on.

“I told you, I’m a god slayer. Lightning such as this does nothing to me,” she growled before charging forward. A blade of dark lightning appeared in her right hand, the female mage thrusting forward and then extending the sword, pushing the mage away from her as he yelped in pain, until the mage hit a tree and the black sword nailed him to the tree. The other man wasn’t easily spared as well.

“Heavy fist!” the girl yelled as she slammed her bionic arm into the man’s stomach, the force contained in the punch much, much more powerful than what she could have done with its flesh counterpart. The number of ribs cracking at once was insane as the man flew off to one side as well. He was probably never getting up, his lungs perforated by the broken ribs. One of the non-mage guards that had been staying to one side of the battle, tried to catch her from her back, shooting from his crossbow. Leah turned around and held up her left forearm at a ninety degree angle to her upper arm, an energy shield humming into existence, almost invisible in the pouring rain and darkness. The crossbow bolts bounced off the energy shield harmlessly, and before it had even dropped to the ground, the guard had already thrown his crossbow aside and ran off towards Sombras Manor without so much as a sound.

Except for the thunder rumbling above, the night was entirely silent now, devoid of any clamor of battle. Leah smirked as she walked towards Westdin who was slowly retreating as well. His unsteady step backwards soon evolved into a full turn around and dash. But it wasn’t so easy to escape from her. Focusing her black lightning around her entire body to force a sudden spurt of speed, Leah instantly moved towards Westdin and appeared right in front of him, catching the man in the face with her metal fist. Westdin dropped to the ground with a gush of blood from his nose, whimpering from the pain.

“Spare me... Spare me, and I shall reward you with all the riches you want,” the drug lord tried to bargain, slowly climbing back to his feet. Kneeling was beneath him after all.

“Nope, don’t need that,” Leah spoke out as she simply sliced in front of him with her right hand, a black sword of lightning in her grasp. The black lightning blade cut through the flesh and bone with ease, instantly decapitating the drug lord where he stood. Leah quickly kicked at the headless body, sending it toppling to the muddy ground where blood began pouring out from the large wound.

With the death of Westdin, the plan that he had nursed with the other drug lord, would be useless now. Chaos would continue to fester as the two groups clashed against each other, no doubt another one would rise to take Westdin’s place and fight for more territory. Leah relished the thought, herself an agent of chaos as she carried out the vision of Errings Rising, steadily working towards plunging the whole of Fiore and eventually Earthland into nothing but pandemonium.

The remaining three guards, the non-magical ones, having stayed away from joining the battle since the beginning looked at the horrific circumstances of their boss’s corpse and then slowly turned their heads to look at Leah.

Leah flashed a grin at them, made all the scarier after displaying her ruthlessness and also her mastery of the seemingly inhuman mastery over lightning. The three guards dropped to their knees and pleaded for the assassin to spare their lives, groveling in the dirt. Leah walked over to them, hands on her hip.

“Return to Sombras Manor and tell Aulford, that the same punishment will befall him if he tries to make another deal with Westdin’s successor.”
