    Job Info:

    My Light...

Her blonde hair whipped against her face as the girl spun around so that her heel would make contact with the monster that lived in the woods of Tolgalen. Her body was screaming with pain, her muscles and bones tired from being works for a little over 12 hours. Aliannah had spent the night within the woods, trying to master the magic that had woken up within her, the magic that Alyia gave her, the magic that would rip at her soul and tear at her skin.

Spending a night in the woods was never an easy thing as many of the monsters within the woods were ones that were nocturnal, she had entered at 8pm a little after dinner and a little after she had wished her partner goodnight before going back to her apartment, changing and going to the woods to train. All through the night she could feel Alyia surging under her skin, giving the small girl the idea that maybe the angel wanted to come out that night, but not that the angel would, she had made a promise to Aliannah that the blonde girl had main control of their shared body and the angel was only to use it when Aliannah was not. So that wasn't tonight.

Her breath was heavy and drifted through the air in white clouds, it was cold now, but the girl couldn't feel it as her body was warm enough due to her new magic, what she could feel though was the drops of cold sweat turning hot and evaporating off of her skin. Being at this for hours had impacts on her body and on her magic, the biggest impact being that the girl was tired and her body was running low on energy.

Blue orbs lined with sleep and fatigue glared at the beast in front of her, it was bigger than her by at least a couple feet, but it was nothing that the girl hadn't faced before.

With a low growl ripping through her throat the mage charged at the beast before leaping into the air and reaching an arm out to snag at the hair on the back of its neck. The girl had yet to use her magic that night, instead relying on her hands and physical body, along with her weapons. It wasn't like the fights needed her magic, in all honesty the fights weren't hard, they were just tiring to do over and over and over. Doing something and having your body on edge for hours was bound to weaken the mind, and that is what this entire training was about, strengthening the mind. She needed to have strong mind to hold off the power of the demon that came with the angel that was Alyia, her body had just recently managed to become stable enough to handle the magic and the angel gave no hesitation or mercy in letting the new mage handle and take the magic that could possibly possess her soul if she was not mentally strong enough.

Body arching over the top of the beast the petite magic came down on the back of the beast and she wrapped her legs around its neck before reaching towards her neck and yanking off the pendant that resided there. She crushed it in her hand and her scythe appeared from a blue glow. Gritting her teeth the female swung it around and sliced through the neck on the animal, cutting its head clean off of its shoulders. A sickening sound entered the air and the head slid from its old position and hit the ground with a soft thud.

The body soon followed and the girl slid off, landing on the ground softly. There was nothing left to do. Her mind was probably at its weakest and yet the West Fiore Trading Company mage managed to hold back the demon that was fighting to get out. She would be fine, her mind and body would withhold this new magic just fine.

It was now a little after 10pm.

The girl looked to the sky and sighed before her wings slipped from their spot within her skin. They were white against the red blood that scattered and stained her skin. Opening them the girl stretched them before snapping them and shooting up into the air and back to her apartment. She was hungry and tired.

It didn't take her long to get back to her home where she stripped her clothes off and stepped into the shower to wash off all of the blood. The warm water was nice and safe against her skin and she could feel her eyes slipping closed. She quickly stepped out of the shower and put on a large shirt and underwear before crawling her way into bed and falling asleep instantly.

If someone needed her, they would wake her.

    Elias Bishop

    Knight of the Aurora

    “Professional shmufesional,”
Elias said half to himself, half to the little arctic fox sitting on his shoulder. He’d just stepped off the Gangplank of the Prince D’Or, one of the West Fiore Trading Company’s smaller transport ships, and taken his first steps on Tolagen in a month. The ship itself was decent, a two-masted vessel. If Elias was correct in his memory, the ship would be called a brig. Maybe a bilander though, he was no expert on sail rigging. It was a small ship either way and incredibly fast as far as he understood it. Perfect for whatever small and quick buck the Trading Company wanted to make. It was also cheap and carried very little cargo. Exactly the kind of first solo assignment to send a rookie on.

Sent out to ‘manage the cargo’,” He continued. “Like the crew didn’t have that handled already. I mean technically I’m qualified to fight pirates. That would’ve been nice but noooooo, all I had to do was babysit some senile old man we picked up halfway through. Constantly gibbering about a giant marlin or something.”

“You think there’d be a literary reference in there,”
Ville appeared on Elias’ shoulder, tearing at a piece of jerky he’d stolen from the ship’s galley.

“I would’ve recognized it if there was one.”
Elias peeled off one arm of his white coat. “And would you move for a sec, white looks awful on me.”

    “You’re right,”
Ville didn’t move. Elias let out an overdone sigh.

The two walked in silence the rest of the way. Elias instead drank in the sweet sound of seagulls and happily said goodbye to the clinging stench of salt, brine, and half-dead fish. A foreman from the hauler’s guild shouted orders on the ship’s deck, unloading cargo of one sort or another as the men took their time unloading, but even that quickly faded behind the clicks of Elias’ boots on flagstones and the bustling crowds of the Trading Company’s home city. Every inch of Elias wanted to crawl back into his apartment and finally wash off the layer of sweat and salt that had grown on his body during the voyage. Then see if he could work the stains out of his uniform.

The warm scent of fried food wafted from one of the port district’s many bars. Elias checked the sign, but it only displayed a mermaid, her paint long sunbleached but still clearly in the process of taking off her scallop-shell bra. With a musical note floating above her head, Elias cautioned to call the place the Singing Siren. Just for the alliteration. Though what truly attracted the blonde man was the scent of fresh fries, fried fish, and Fainéant 1444 (A lucky year for wine, Elias’ birth year too). Although Elias thoroughly doubted that such a place would carry some of the finer wines. Anything had to be better than the red swill he drank with the captain. Who the hell would trust a wine from Seven anyways?

Inside, the bar was packed. Every stool stood taken by captain, sailor, husband, and wife alike. THe main room housed four long tables and benches. Those, too, were packed. A little warmth appeared in Elias’ belly, now confident that he’d found a good place to eat. That was if he could even get a table. A waitress appeared out of the crowd, wearing sailing trousers, a puffy shirt, and a skull and crossbones bandana.

“You looking to eat or drink,” She asked with the kind of smile only waitresses make.

“Hopefully both,” Elias replied, “And, uh, maybe some for the little guy too. Just food though.” He gestured towards Ville, sitting silently on his shoulder.”

“Wait’s an hour unless you don’t mind sitting with other folks.”
The waitress scanned the room just to be sure

    “Meeting new people can’t hurt,”
    Elias said with a shrug.

The waitress nodded and led him along. Weaving around one family with a particularly rowdy child, then another young sailor’s vomit. She shouted something over the din, and a waiter appeared armed with a mop and a very large bucket of water. Finally, at the very end of a table, right next to the back of the bar and among five burly sailors and their even burlier captain. Elias could feel their stares burning through his chest as the waitress showed him a seat and promised to deliver the fish and food soon. Ville hopped down onto the table and Elias started shrugging off his coat. The arctic fox closed his eyes, but his grin didn’t escape Elias’ notice.

    “Uh, Hi,”
Elias said, his eyes darting between each man. He wasn’t sure which man to look at. “I’m Elias.”

THe sailors burst into laughter. One of them clapped alis hard on the back and doubled over. Even the captain couldn’t help what Elias could only interpret as a moment of sheer hilarity purely at his own expense. He was sure he hadn’t said anything wrong. A mug of beer hit the table in front of Elias and, not knowing what else to do, he downed it. Frothy, fresh, and just a little bit bitter. Good stuff, probably brewed around back too. Elias sat the mug back on the table and wiped away the foam on his upper lip. The sailors’ laughter redoubled.

“A rookie AND and he can slam a beer,” One of the sailors choked out. All Elias could do was sit there awkwardly. Even Ville was stifling his own laughter. “This is pure gold!”

The sailors’ laughter subsided after what felt like an eternity. One of them, still snickering, said, “So tell us about your first voyage, Rookie.”

So Elias told them of his somewhat short voyage aboard the Roi D’Or. The old man and his marlin and the weird standoffishness the officers and crew treated him. Nothing special really, but it seemed to draw more laughter out of the sailors around.

“Now that sounds like Cap'n Stockton,” One of the sailors said

“Idiot’s been trying to buy that ship for years. Of course he hates the Trading Company,” Another continued.

“The perfect place to send a rookie,” the first one agreed.

The captain called for another round, Elias included. The younger wizard insisted on getting the one after that. A basket of fried fish landed in front of him. He asked the name of their ship.

“Captain Banningham of the Russo Cielo,” the captain said. “And here we’ve got Fix, Bert, Sprink, Shooter, and Zoo.” Each one pointed themselves out as Banningham went around the table.

Then Elias’ second round arrived. He guessed it was the sailors’ third. They talked of ships and sails. Of their voyages around Tolagen and Ishtar. Elias talked about his debacles as a wizard and the sailors talked of ports they’d seen both near and far. Round after round passed. He started to lose track after the fifth. In some faintly remembered haze of laughter, stories, and booze, Elias found himself on the street. Ville had gone back to the celestial world and somehow he’d remembered his coat. He muttered something about hating the color white and wandered home.

A clocktower’s bells rang eleven just as Elias found his apartment. The alcohol had only barely begun to leak away from his veins while he fumbled for his keys. They hit the ground with a jangle and Elias knocked his head against the front gate as he moved to grab them. The bars, though, were wider than they ought to be and he slipped an arm between them and opened the gate. Someone walked behind Elias, skirting away from the already drunk man. He half-walked, half-stumbled his way into the mail-foyer-kinda room when, in his drunken stupor, Elias decided to check the mail.

There was one letter. From Bellum. No other return address save for the sole initial ‘J’. The land of magic, where nigh everyone was a mage in some capacity. Mother had sent Elias to study there for a semester to learn “more about his true heritage” or somesuch. Some folks had the revolutionary idea not just to use magic to cook, but to actually create magic spices. That was kinda cool, but the name wasn’t one of his old classmates. Not that Elias liked them anyway. The closest thing he made to a friend there was a serving boy named James. The only one not drunk on magic by pure virtue of not having it. He skimmed it. Danger. Leave. Help. Most words split into two but Elias thought he got the message and his stomach dropped so far he had to run back outside and vomit in the bushes.

Time blurred and Elias found himself run walking down twelfth, then a right toward Aliannah’s apartment. He hoped. Moments or maybe minutes later, he stumbled onto what should have been her door with a bang before knocking rapidly a half dozen times and sliding to the ground with his back against her door.

Post by Aliannah 7th September 2019, 5:43 pm

    My Light...

Alyia had claimed her body the moment that the other had fallen asleep. Getting up and mentally cringing at the state that the body was in. Tired, worn down, nearly empty of energy, but full of magic. It seemed that the other girl had done everything in her own power to tired and wear down the body in order to test her mental abilities. The blonde haired Angel didn't move to transform the younger's body, knowing that she wouldn't actually be leaving the room tonight, rather she would be trying to figure out where the next source of information would come from.

The petite girl shifted to the end of the bed where she clambered down the ladder and to the main area. It was relatively neat for now, dirty only because of the effort that the other was putting into training. It was scattered with worn clothes and bandages from scratches that would heal over night. There were no medications as Aliannah wouldn't ever have to take them, but there packages and bottles that were scattered near her travel bag. Other people might use them was the others argument.

The Angel could only roll her metaphorical eyes.

It hadn't been recent that the girl had learned of Alyia's old powers, but it was certainly something that the girl wanted to master, and master quickly. Aliannah always seemed to function on the idea that she had limited time. That she always had to learn everything as quick as possible. As if her time was running out. Which is wasn't. If Alyia really wanted to, the Angel could make the other live as long as she wanted to. She could live forever. But the angelic being knew better than that. Knew better than the idea that a girl who only wanted to save her family and friends would want to live for all of eternity and gain all the powers that the Heaven's held.

No, that was not something that the other would want and Alyia could only smile and respect the other for living the life that she wanted. The blonde Angel almost felt slightly jealous of the other. She had friends she could trust, a guild that she loved and worked for, people who depended on her, though no known family the girl had made her own.

The Angel almost felt soft on the inside, almost felt like she could drop all that she had worked for and let the girl live the life she wanted, almost. But not quite.

Alyia ghosted across the floor and to the hidden cupboard where she had hidden both her Onyx Moon costume and the documents that she had collected from her jobs thus far, her information on tracking down the ones who had raped her and the ones who had betrayed her.

She nearly had information on the first location, a grandchild of hers, another person that had been handed to Eris to train in the other dimension. They were no longer children, a teen at this point. The information that she had about the other was personal, what they looked like, how old they were, what their personality would be, but it was nothing like where they were at that point in time. It only made the Angel think that the teen was still in the other dimension now. The blonde could only hope that they hadn't reproduced as that would be another life that she would have to take from this world.

Alyia shifted back through the information, piecing together where she would have to go next. She had several jobs that had been handed to her, claiming that they had information on the teen and where they were. It wasn't like the Angel trusted them, but any lead was a good lead, of course the assassin couldn't just accept all of them at the same time, she would have to select which one had the highest potential of having the information that she wanted. A sigh slipped from her lip and she flipped through the pages as she walked amongst the house. She could feel the body putting itself back together, the tears in muscle healing themselves, the scratches along her arms putting themselves back together, the possible junctures that she had broken piecing back together. It was a feeling. Not one that she enjoyed, but one that she had felt many times before.

It was good to move, but it also hurt the body and put a delay on the healing process so the blonde haired mage moved to take a seat in one of the chairs and swing her legs that were slightly longer than she was used to onto the table. Aliannah was a half foot taller than she was in angel form.

Page after page after page. Many of the jobs seemed similar. It was going to be hard to choose...

BUT apparently that wasn't going to happen tonight as a rapid and sloppy knocking came at the door of the apartment. It certainly startled the Angel, but also the stoat that had been sleeping calmly on its pillow. Oya's eyes made connection with the Angel's and the blonde only shrugged and shook her head. She didn't know who would be knocking at the door. There was a thud and a slide as a body hit the door.

Yeah, this wasn't good. Alyia took her materials and shoved them into her secret spot before climbing back into the bed and assuming a similar position to what Aliannah had looked like when she fell asleep. It was good that the other moved around in her sleep or Alyia would be in big trouble.

The Angel pinched at the mind of the girl as if trying to wake her from her slumber.

    -*-

A gasp came from Aliannah as she woke with a start. It was as if Alyia, the Angel that was in the back of her consciousness
had forced her to wake up. The blonde was puzzled for a moment. What did the Angel mean, what did she want? Was there something wrong? Aliannah took reference of what was around. A magic, something familiar was right outside her door.

Sure she had thought that anyone could come and bug her if they needed to, but the girl wasn't serious, after all it was early morning, really early morning. The morning that only drunks and late owls would be awake.

So why was Elias right outside her door.

    It must be an emergency.

The thought hit her like and brick and the girl nearly flew from her bed, frantically climbing down the ladder to it, and running across her home to the door. She had completely passed on wearing pants. It really wasn't a time to worry about it!

Her hand reached the door knob and pulled the door open in a hurry. She was a mess. Her usually silky hair was in a wrecked braid, a single shirt covered the entirety of her body, body still covered in bruises and what little scrapes were left, and eyes slightly widened and wild.

What she hadn't expected was to find a drunk Elias at her door step. The girl was confused and was somewhere between received and annoyed that there wasn't something immediate that was wrong.

The blonde pushed her hair behind her ear and took in a breath which she almost instantly regretted as the other smelled strongly of beer and greasy food. She let out a small cough before crouching down, legs together, and placing a hand on the shoulder of the other and shaking him gently.

"Elias. Elias. What are you doing here? Why have you been drinking?"

ON THE NIGHT OF THE AURORA

IS A QUEST TO DISCOVER WHO I AM.

    6156 words

Well the page is still broken, so imma use this boi.

A cricket chirped away in the night, easing the adrenalin out of Elias’ system and letting his muscles mold themselves over the concrete. Distantly, Elias knew the position wasn’t all that comfortable but he couldn’t let go of the feeling that a quick nap would have been nice right about then. Just a moment of shut-eye. Do away with the strain of looking at things. Maybe even drift into the world of dreams for a faint second, then get right back up and walk home.

He fell backwards slowly. somewhere in the blackness of his barely-sobered stupor. Door hinges creaked. Elias’ head hit a doormat and something was shaking his shoulder. He shifted a little bit, trying to sink more into the doorframe before Aliannah spoke. Right, Elias had to tell Aliannah about something. She asked why he was drinking. Why was he even there?

“I’m an adult and I can do what I want,” Elias shot back as he awkwardly slid around Aliannah. “Plus I got a letter. It’s from a dude named James. Pretty important.” He fished around his back pocket, pulling out a partially crinkled and poorly torn open envelope, then balanced it on Aliannah’s head. “But first, I need water.”

The young man used the door handle to pull him to his feet. He stumbled a bit, but otherwise managed to skirt around the couch in the middle of Aliannah’s studio. After barley nicking his foot on a standing ladder, he made it to the kitchen sink, stuck his head under the faucet, and turned on the water.

The letter, on the other hand, went something like this.

    Elias,

It’s been a while since we last exchanged letters. In that time I hope you’ve found your own way in the world, somewhere outside of Minstrel. Fiore, perhaps? What I hear from the bottom is that wizards there are especially weird. I think it suits your style, so that’s where I’m sending the letter. If it reaches you, then I’m saved.

You might remember Adrien. You know, the other moot serving boy. We didn’t get along the best, but we magicless kids have to stick together. To put a long story short, he got killed. Pulled in the back of an alleyway and jolted with so much lightning that every hair got singed right off his body. He died. Kids from your old school, maybe even your old class. I’m afraid they’re going to come after me next. I’ve been lucky to live as a wallflower as long as I have but I’m afraid that those days are numbered. I need your help. You’re the only mage I could ever trust. I know the battlemages here in Bellum are some of the deadliest on the planet, so there’s a bit of compensation readied up for you and any other mages you trust to bring with.

Well I guess this is a job, so it may as well be a “request”. Deliver me safely over the border of Bellum, into Pergrande. I have a contact on the other side who can guarantee your safety both there and on your return journey. She’s younger than us, still a teenager. But she’s smart and has the heart of an angel. Even said her grandmother was one, but I’m sure that’s just a story to give her legitimacy. I understand people in the business call her Angel, but I digress.

75,000 Jewels is the reward for you and each of your companions. Negotiable and immediately paid upon my safe delivery to Angel. I know the meeting place. For the sake of safety, I’ll have to leave that meetingplace a secret. Just to make sure the Magi don’t find my hiding place, I can only ask that you find me in the serving shed at the old school. You’re technically an alum, so getting in shouldn’t be a problem for you.

    Thank you,
    J.

    “Ah shit,”
Elias said after he finished drinking. He’d forgotten to take off his shoes. They weren’t dirty or anything, he just felt rude for barging in. Same with his work coat. He hated the color white, it looks awful with blonde hair but there really wasn’t a lot Elias could’ve done about it in that moment. He shrugged it off and wandered back towards the front door, sloppily slid off his boots, and tossed his coat on a hook.

Aliannah would probably still be reading the letter by that point, so Elias plopped himself down on a free chair and awkwardly waited.
    PHARAOH LEAP.
