Paragon of Virtue
You really had to choose something so mundane for a first job? the Bringer of Death asked as Jin walked into the outskirts of Era.
"We need to earn money," Jin simply answered. "Plus I thought you'd be happy with this. It's easy enough for me, plus it protects the innocent people, and you get to do your killing!"
The Bringer of Death sighed and went silent. This was one of the few times that Jin felt completely satisfied with his work. It truly was a win-win situation for him.
It wasn't far outside the town of Era when he encountered the boars. Six boars, with one towering over the rest. The mother, Jin assumed.
Face it, the Bringer of Death began, I'm better suited for this job than you are.
Jin tried to protest, but the demon took over and his vision faded to black.
Bringer of Death
Jin's eyes opened, and the world was tinted red. He was ready for battle. He slowly walked up to the boars, a small knife drawn.
"Aspect Focus: Maw of Shadow," he muttered, his fists being wrapped in shadows. "Aspect of the Maw of Shadow: Cor Comedenti. Orcus."
His hands and his knife were wrapped in a shadowy blaze as one of the smaller boars charged. He sidestepped out of the way, slicing its throat in a single motion, smiling at the creature as it struggled.
You don't have to revel in its death, the Paragon whined.
The Bringer of Death only smiled as the other five now began circling him. The large one charged out first. Jin handspringed out of the way, though was quickly countered by one of the smaller boars ramming into him. He landed on his feet, though the wind was knocked out of him.
You shouldn't've gone for Orcus.
The Bringer of Death ignored the other one's advice, rushing into battle once again. His eyes were set on a single child boar, the runt of the litter. One of the other children rushed towards him again, and Jin dodged out of the way. He was entirely focused on this one boar, which cowered behind its mother. The mother rushed towards Jin, who rolled through its legs, getting battered by one of its legs. He remained focused however, rolling once more to plunge his knife into the neck of the child. It squirmed as Jin removed the knife for a moment before collapsing.
"Two down, four to go."
Immediately after his boast, the mother and the three remaining children rushed towards him simultaneously. He was battered around, though he managed to get a hit onto the mother as he escaped from the beasts, who did not relent. He rolled out of the way of a charge, cutting deep into the leg of one of the children, which tumbled to the ground. The two remaining children and the mother kept on their charge. At this point, Jin was on the defensive. As the boars continued to charge, Jin continued to avoid the beasts, getting slow hits as he dodged. He kept an eye on the wounded boar, eventually making a break for it as the effects of both Orcus and Cor Comedenti began to wear out. He slid underneath the boar, slicing through its throat at the last fading moments of his power-ups.
"Aspect Focus: World Eater!" he called, keeping an eye on the last three boars.
As his focus shifted, he dodged out of the way of the boars, springing off of the back of one of the children to launch himself into the air.
"Aspect of the World Eater: Skia Machairia!" he barked, extending a hand towards one of the children.
Thin blades of shadow fired out of his hand, piercing the child until it died. He crashed onto the ground, keeping his eyes on the remaining two boars. His plan was to kill the mother last, so his eyes were focused in on the last remaining child. He sprinted towards it, both of the remaining boars closing the gap even further. He launched another Skia Machairia at the other child boar, striking and killing it.
"Now only mama is left, eh?" Jin coyly mused. He smiled and laughed to himself. "All your kids are dead, what're you going to do about it, mama?"
The mother boar rushed headfirst towards Jin, clearly enraged. As he had done before, Jin fired another Skia Machairia into the mother, who brushed it off with ease. He tried dodging out of the way, but the boar swung its head in response, launching Jin into the air. He twirled, focusing back on the mother and launching one more Skia Machairia. The mother dropped to its knees, crying in defeat. Jin landed on the ground, still in pain from the repeated strikes he had taken.
"Sadly it's not a human," he mused.
Thankfully it's not a human! the Paragon yelled.
Jin drowned out the sounds from his other half as he walked over to the boar, knife in hand. "It's a sad thing, seeing a mother lose her children right in front of her eyes." He thrust his knife into the eye of the beast. It squealed in pain. "At least now you won't have to see as much. Honestly, doing this to a boar is much, much less entertaining than a human. Less cognitive abilities, less spots to hurt..." he stabbed into the snout. "I'm certainly not opposed to this, but-"
Just finish it already.
The Bringer of Death sighed, slicing into the throat of the beast. It thrashed around, collapsing onto the ground as the last bits of life faded from its eyes.
"We need proof that we've done it, eh?" Jin cut a tusk off of each boar as he walked back into Era, blood dripping off of his blade as he smiled at his fine work.
