Leah waited in silence, perched on the edge of a roof, her legs lightly swinging below her while she inspected her one and only pistol, Raven. Routinely going through all of the moving parts of the firearm, the assassin from Errings Rising was finally satisfied when the click of the slider chimed as it assumed its original position. The client of the job, an elderly man called Jansen was the chief of this small village, on the outskirts of the Cursed Lands. He was looking at her with an expression that expressed all of his doubt, unsure if the girl was really suitable for the job. Her carefree nonchalance unnerved him, especially when he himself knew the dangers of the werewolves, the targets of the job this time.
As she turned her around slowly to take in the view, predominantly looking at the entrance to the village, Leah sneered at the village elder’s worried expression. Jansen was also continuously looking at his watch, checking it for the tenth time since half an hour ago. The reason that he kept looking at the watch was also why Leah was rather relaxed about the mission. From what she knew, there were going to be three more mages assigned to the job to take out the werewolves. It was a relatively low-ranked job, not worth the time of more experienced and powerful mages, hence the job falling to this would-be motley crew of four.
The sun was beginning to sink below the horizon, casting an orange-yellow hue across the small village. Their job would begin at night anyway, since that would be when the werewolves would show themselves. But Jansen was in a hurry. He wanted to be back in the safety of his home when the moon reared its head up, rather than standing around looking like an easy target.
“Here comes one of them,” Leah shouted to the man below her, pointing with her right index finger towards the entrance of the village. Jansen had mentioned that the village didn’t have much visitors and all of the villagers were already huddled up in their homes, hence allowing Leah to make her deduction. However, the waning light also made it difficult for her to see who it was or what they looked like from the current distance between them.
