"Character counts most when duty calls." “Huh.” Serilda blinked at the object before her. It had been several months since she and Mythal had taken over the Rune Knights, though the vast majority of that time hadn’t even been spent on Earthland. Not long after being placed in charge they had both been asked to help act as security on a scientific task force that had taken them to no less than a completely different planet. They’d traveled for three months through space to reach it, and while the excursion had been… exciting to say the least, she was more than glad to be back home. Unfortunately, while they’d been gone their work had piled up. There was just so much to do after the chaos left in the wake of the Crimson Fang’s attack, and most of it could only be done by either Serilda, Mythal, or her other general Onida. The sheer amount of paperwork was downright criminal. Her new office was practically a second home at this point given how much time she’d been spending there reading through the former marshall’s reports and trying to catch up on everything he’d had going on. She tried to do most of this herself, as she knew that Mythal would go absolutely bonkers being confined to a desk in an office, but she certainly couldn’t do all of it alone. It had been a grueling process for both of them. Today was intended to shake things up a bit. An inventory was needing to be performed on the items that the Rune Knights currently had possession of. This included confiscated items from arrests, contraband, weapons and items in their armory, and many other things. Not exactly glorious work, but it was something that would keep them moving and on their feet. Normally it would be a job for a middle tiered officer rather than the marshall or one of the generals, but Serilda felt it was important for her to know and see exactly what all was in their vaults and at their disposal. Most of it was the usual: weapons, drugs, magical items and the like. One thing in particular stood out from the others, however. In the back of one of the storage rooms, being kept near a heater and sitting on an oversized pillow, was an extremely large egg. It was a lavender hued shell that was covered in large spots of a darker, plum color. Serilda had never seen an egg this size before and was honestly a bit stunned to see one sitting in one of their vaults like it was a totally normal thing to see amidst shelves of confiscated goods. She stared at it for a moment. “What do you think is inside? Clearly whoever put it here believes it’s fertilized, cause they’ve been incubating it with heat…” She carefully put her hand against the side of it to see if she could feel any movement within. I've been out there and seen the things she's made
Inventory or paperwork; hard to believe he went ahead and survived a massive ary to be stucking doing menial work -- twice.
Mythal wasn’t over-exaggerating either; the amount of clean up that they had to embark on after the attack on Era was stupendous. There were files upon files all over that needed to be looked at, reviewed, destroyed or archived once more and so the pattern continued. Even with the three ranking officers working near around the clock, they seemed to be just as far behind as possible. While other people would probably grunt, groan and complain about such things, the Darkness King was far worse. He’d never held a serious position in his life, nor had he ever handled such great, meticulous responsibility. He didn’t consider himself a free range wanderer at heart but the more he found himself cooped up, the more he wanted to break free.
Luckily he had more self-restraint than selfish desire. After everything he and Serilda had gone through over the last couple of months, he wasn’t about to cut and run -- nor would the Voidwalker let him. She wasn’t keeping him tied down but he knew better than to just disappear on her; he’d done that once and that was more than enough. Nor did he ever stop working, because he knew that she needed the help and he wanted to be the one that gave her aid. It was why he had agreed to join the Rune Knights in the first place, to help the noblewoman out and to stick close to her. That and the Knights were in some serious need of rebuilding and no one person could just do that themselves.
Serilda must have understood and had suggested that they take on a different chore for the day. Completing an inventory wasn’t exactly the gala of chores but it was far better than sitting at a desk for a number of hours and reading and writing reports. They needed to sort through all sorts of different inventory that the Rune Knights had compiled over the years. Confiscated items of all sorts, weapons, armor, magical equipment -- there was no end to the different categorized items before them. He was busy picking up several of the magical items from a nearby chest when he heard Serilda’s remark, drawing his attention. He walked through the mounted boxes and items until he stood beside her, his brow furrowed at the sight of the egg.
“Uhhh… great question,” he muttered softly as he looked over the rather large oval. “Hard to believe the former Rune Knights were just keeping an egg down here, heated and prepped,” he mused aloud as he walked around it. “Maybe it’s some kind of dragon egg?” He asked, shrugging his shoulders. Like her, he placed his hand against the shell and rested his fingers along the rough surface. Serilda would be able to feel if anything was inside and so would he -- it was sure to be shadowed within the egg and he would feel if there was any kind of mass.

Silence rang through the air. Only the sound of the heater running would accompany the eerie silence that range through the storage unit the giant egg was in. The exterior was like wet and soggy sand paper, warm from the extended period of time it had sat here with only a pillow underneath for supervision.
Of course with the arrival of the two, things certainly had changed.
The moment that Serilda placed her hand upon the egg, a pulse could be felt. Whatever was inside would react to feeling another. A faint swish of something brushing across the surface would be felt. Was it a tail or some kind of wing? Mythal would feel the same sensation from inside. Whatever was inside was reacting to their presence. The movement caused the egg to stir as it shuffled in place for a moment. It stilled afterwards as fast as movement had began. Once again the silence had returned as it would fall back to its previous state.
A minute passed. Then two, three then four. At the birth of five minutes a noise came from the side Mythal was present on. A thin line had began to form across the surface. A short rock of the rock from atop the pillow helped it spread along as a crack was made. The surface shook slightly from the racket inside. The creature was beginning to stir. More cracks and pieces shattered the outside of the shell as light vanquished the reign of darkness inside. A few more jolts and small holes could be seen inside to a figure cloaked in shadows. A hole lower to Seri's side would upset the balance of the egg as it toppled over away from the heater. The force of the crash would cause the top to open as the side hit cracked open.
If left alone, the remaining walls gave away as two small figures would find their way into the world. Two Exceed, both still resting cuddled together, would slumber peacefully until it came time to awaken. The first would open their young emerald eyes, full of curiosity and initiative. The second would gaze at Mythal with her crimson irises bound to him. She wore a rather stern and serious face though it was currently hidden by her confusion.
"Huh? Where-""-are we?"
The two spoke, both females by their voices. The green eyed Exceed stretched much like a common house cat and shook her vanilla haired head as if they had been like this for quite some time. Her eyes moved to the woman before moving towards the heater.
"I remember-""-a wonderful dream."
The two remained quiet for a moment before then looking at one another rather confused.
"Hey! Stop copying me!" "Quit it! I'm warning you!"
"Hey! Stop copying me!" "Quit it! I'm warning you!"
The pair of twins would growl at one another, each not looking pleased with the opposite. The tension was thick and both would show tell tale signs of readying for a fight, each possessing a wave of confusion as they copied one another to a tee.

Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
"Character counts most when duty calls." There was definitely something moving inside. Actually, it felt like there were two things squished inside. She searched the interior of the egg with her Void sense, trying to see if she could get a feel for the shape of whatever was there while Mythal voiced his own curiosity. “It doesn’t feel like a dragon,” she said as he placed one of his own hands on the shell. Serilda took a moment to focuses her senses, narrowing them down to the space within the egg so she could get more details rather than a general shape. “There’s definitely two in here, and it doesn’t feel like it’s covered in scales. Feels more like fur. Paws, tails… pointed ears…” She was carefully describing the different things she was picking up, on the verge of putting the answer together when a small snap got her attention. The egg was hatching! Serilda took a step back, unsure of what to do. She hadn’t meant to force the thing to wake up. Hopefully this was just all very coincidental timing and not something she’d triggered unintentionally. The Voidwalker had quite a bit of experience raising wolves and other mammals, but nothing that was born from an egg. The woman gasped and reached out instinctively to try and stop the egg from falling when it lost its balance and rolled off the pillow, but she didn’t stop it in time. Thankfully, the casing didn’t completely shatter and hurt anything inside, but it was enough of an impact to complete the hatching process. What laid within were indeed two creatures: Exceeds. The only exposure Serilda had to such creatures was with Markus and Nessa, who both had Exceed companions of their own. She didn’t know that they were hatched through eggs, so the reality of what laid before them really was a bit of a shock for her. Serilda could only watch with surprised blue eyes as the cuddling twins slowly stirred into wakefulness as though they had merely been taking a very long nap -- which, in all honesty, was probably accurate. The two were very similar in appearance save for two major distinctions. Most noticeably were their eyes; one had bright emerald ones, while the other’s were a crimson color like Mythal’s. Secondly, they both greeted the world with what at least appeared to be different expressions or outlooks. The one that first met Serilda’s gaze looked almost fascinated with this brand new world she had just been born into, while the other appeared to be more confused and perhaps even a bit wary. Serilda glanced over to Mythal with what was probably the most dumbfounded expression she’d ever had on her face. What were they supposed to do, she asked him silently? The Exceeds began to speak, finishing each other’s sentences as they tried to process the change in their surroundings. But the exchange crumbling rather quickly as annoyance kicked in, as was wont to happen with siblings. For a moment all Serilda could do was just stare at them, her mind desperately trying to catch up to the reality of what was happening before instinct finally kicked in. “That’s quite enough of that, you two,” she said in a kind but stern tone, the kind of tone that expected to be obeyed much like a mother giving a scolding. Serilda herself was not a mother, but she had helped raise several nieces and nephews so she had at least some experience with children. A single expectant brow was raised on her forehead while she waited for the two of them to calm down and stop bickering. Words: 614/1108 |

Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
The shadowed areas within the egg painted a very interesting picture for the God Slayer. There were two forms, nearly pushed together but not quite conjoined. But unlike Serilda, the Darkness King wasn’t great about picking out all the features attached to the dark. He merely felt the presences; the echoes of movement, however slight. He could feel the rise and falls of their chests as they breathed and it gave him an idea of a shape but not something with intricate detail or definition. Seri, on the other hand, was far better with her magic at identifies features and she softly began to reveal what she felt. Mythal listened quietly as she crafted the picture of the two beings inside until…
A snap. Mythal’s eyes widened as he felt the shell right beneath his hand shift. Only a moment later a crack streaked over the surface, fracturing the once pristine cover with a natural break. “Uh… that ain’t me,” he said, retracting his hand quickly and taking a step back. Had the creatures inside felt the heat from their hands and started to react? Did they think they were in the presence of their mother, come to nestle against the egg and feed warmth into the core? Whatever the case, the God Slayer watched as the cracks spread like a wildfire, opening up considerable holes in the shell and illuminated the contents inside. A decent chunk broke off and there the egg toppled, falling down towards the ground. Both Mythal and Serilda reached for it but they were far too late before the audible snap echoed in the immediate area.
Luckily for all the parties, all the fall had done was hasten the process of birthing the creatures inside. And resting in the bottom cup of the remnants were two Exceeds, cuddled close together. At this point, the Darkness King had encountered a fair number of Exceeds -- Nessa and Markus’ had been the ones he knew best but he could remember Mia’s as well from some time back. Though he knew a handful, he had never actually… asked how they came into existence. He simply assumed that they were born much like humans or other humanoid animals were. Yet here two were, having come into the world from an egg. That… was certainly unique. He watched in awe as the two slowly began to rise to consciousness, the closest one to him looking up. Ruby lenses met their equal as the God Slayer continued to stare in silent wonder.
It wasn’t until they began to speak -- with full, thoughtful words -- that he managed a small chuckle. The two siblings immediately broke into bickering, accusing the other of copying. It was Serilda who stepped in, her voice authoritative but still earnest. As the one that was used to dealing with raising other’s, she was clearly the better choice to break up the argument. “That’s certainly one way to pop into the world,” he said, reaching back and scratching his head. He crouched down, resting his arms on his thighs as he looked between the two. “I guess we’re the welcomin’ party.”

Both twins tried to be as opposing and threatening to one another as much as a newborn Exceed could. Still, an effort was made and they looked to be inching closer and closer towards one another. The fight was ready to erupt had it not been for the timely interference of Serilda. Both of their grape colored heads perked up and swung around to face the snow haired woman.
"Yes, ma'am."
"Yes, ma'am."
They spoke in unison as the siblings further observed their surroundings. The green eyed twin looked up at Serilda with excitement while energy seemingly coursed through her small body. "Hey, you look like who we were dreaming of!" her tone as full of wonder and interest as a child learning of the world for the first time. "White hair, blue eyes...Yep! I bet you're totally it!~" Her sibling stared up at Mythal while he spoke of being the welcoming committee for both Exceed. "You too. Black hair, red eyes, peach fuzz." She crossed her paws and gave the sole male in the room a once over. "Grappa, did you have-" Her words took pause while she covered her mouth with her paws in confusion. "Wait, how'd I..." "I dunno Jellisha...Oh! I did it too! I guess we know each other!" Grappa rocked back and forth as if none of the developments thus far had any impact on her, ever the smiling Exceed. Her sister, inversely, would stare briefly at her. Wondering how they knew each other's names so quickly and if this Exceed was her actual sibling. Maybe there was an egg mix up?
"Anyway! We were sleeping for a long time when we felt something weird! It was all black and then I saw you!" Grappa said, adjusting her stance and posture as if to show Serilda reaching out and touching the egg. "You were like this and then we woke up!" Jellisha's right ear twitched upon learning of her sister's dreams. "Same here. I saw you in my dream as well. Reaching out as well. Any idea of where were are?"
Over her shoulder, Grappa was scurrying around the grounds and investigating things as a naive and curious youth was prone to do. "What's this?" she asked, pointing to some of the confiscated weaponry around. Without stopping for an answer her eyes fell onto the heater and wandered over to that as well. "And that? Is this some kind of magic that makes places warm?"

Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
"Character counts most when duty calls." Well, they were obedient at least. Both of the exceeds stopped their bickering and looked up at Serilda attentively. Shortly after that, they really started to get a better look at her and Mythal, claiming that they had just been dreaming about the two humans. Her brow raised slightly when the red eyed exceed described Mythal of having peach fuzz. The slightest twitch of her lip was the only evidence that she’d found the comment funny and was trying to hide it. They were an interesting pair. Though they had just been born the two seemed to know each other’s names, though the revelation surprised them. Grappa was taking everything in stride, accepting the surprises as they came and rolling with them without much question. Jellisha, on the other hand, seemed to be a bit more pensive than her twin. The new knowledges and information was chewed over a bit in her mind and thinking things over a bit. “Perhaps something happened when we touched your egg,” Serilda admitted, shooting Mythal a brief look. Obviously neither of them had intended to cause the egg to hatch, but all signs were pointing toward them being directly responsible for it nonetheless. She returned her gaze back to the inquisitive duo. “Right now you’re in one of the many armories for the Rune Knights. Someone must have found your egg a while back and placed it here for safekeeping.” There was a brief moment of panic as Grappa seemed particularly interested in the weaponry. Her motherly instincts were going into overdrive with this newly born pair, and the last thing she wanted to do was watch one of them injure themselves. Thankfully, before Grappa could get too curious her attention was already taken by the device that had been keeping them warm for some time. “That heater was placed there to incubate the two of you until you were ready to hatch.” Keeping an eye on them just to make sure they didn’t wander toward anything dangerous, Serilda quietly leaned closer to Mythal and asked, “What should we do? We can’t just leave them in here, the poor things. I can’t believe they just left them back here without being monitored…” The exceeds were living creatures, not property to be inventoried, stored, and forgotten about! They were going to need homes, food… probably all sorts of care. Unfortunately, Serilda’s only experience with exceeds were those that Markus and Nessa were companions with, and she had no idea what kind of needs and provisions were best for them. Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
There was absolutely no surprise on Mythal’s face as he heard Serilda cut off the two arguing with a quick and firm declaration. The two Exceeds were mere inches away from rolling on the floor in a physical contest when the Voidwalker interrupted, causing them to about-face and near stand at attention. Now fully looking at Serilda, the Exceed with green eyes stared up in wonder, encapsulated by the sight of the woman. She referenced some dream, seeming to recognize Seri from a seemingly prophetic vision of their meeting. The other Exceed looked at him and quickly listed off his own attributes from a dream as well, meaning that he had appeared in their slumber as well. In their revelations came their names; Grappa and Jellisha, apparently ingrained in their minds before they even truly learned it. Grappa seemed the far more upbeat one in comparison her sister, unfazed by the sudden and rapidly developing notion of being alive.
They explained that they had been asleep for quite some time and only awakened when they felt something. Grappa put on a show of touching the egg much like he and Serilda had done, defining just how they were able to pick up on the two of them. “So you guys were able to… sense us, just as we were sensin’ you two,” Mythal hypothesized, scratching his chin. “Ain’t that the damnedest thing…” He glanced over at Serilda briefly before he faced Jellisha once more. “Well, my name is Mythal. That woman is Serilda. It’s nice to meet you and…”
He looked past Jellisha to see her wandering around but luckily Serilda kept a solid gaze upon the curious Exceed, watching as she went from looking around the room to admiring the heater. She explained briefly what its purpose had been, a la keeping the Exceed’s egg warm. He stood up slowly, watching them, as Serilda leaned in close and spoke to him softly. She was right of course – the fact that they had been stored down here in the first place was ridiculous. But now that they were out of their confines and active, they couldn’t just… ignore them. That would be just as bad as the other Rune Knights. “Obviously we can’t leave them here. I don’t really know where we could bring them besides…” He paused for a moment, caught in a thought that rendered him quiet. “There are some bein’s out there that bond immediately, right? I mean Gren and Xiuhco are like that. They said they saw us in their dreams – maybe that’s some kind of… physical, bondin’ type deal. I don’t really know. First thing’s first; we should probably make sure they’re fed.”
With that in mind, he spoke up. “Hey guys, you feelin’ hungry or anythin’? We got a whole lot of food upstairs if yer up for it.”

"The Rune Knights, huh?" Jellisha repeated while her hyperactive sibling was running around to try and see just about everything in the immediate area around them. Clearly the stoic and serious of the two, she held her paw to her chin in thought while listening to Serilda's description of how the fault could lie with the both of them. She had her doubts but it was as much a mystery to them as it was to the twins. "It does make sense. The dreams, you two touching the egg. It sounds like something Grappa would make up in her head." At the sound of her name being mentioned the emerald eyed Exceed took pause from investigating some precariously stacked times above her to fly back on her wings. "Maybe it was destiny! Like we're all gunna go fight a dragon! Or maybe save a kingdom that's been at war for a thousand years or MMPH! Mmph..." Jellisha had flown up and covered Grappa's ever excitable mouth with her right paw yet she continued for a few seconds.
"Nice to meet you both. I'm Jellisha." "And I'm Grappa~""Thank you for taking care of our egg. Even if you did break it." She appeared to wield sarcasm as if it was a blade, surprising for somebody who had been asleep up until the past five minutes. "Hey! They didn't mean to! If you found a giant egg in the middle of a metal box, you'd touch it too." Grappa snapped at her sister in defense of the two in front of them. Jellisha looked at her and shoved her face in her siblings, an unamused expression painted as clear as day. "So you'd touch a giant egg with no protective gear or anything then? I guess it's clear who has the brains between us." "Can your stupid brains figure out why I dreamed of the cooler person? Maybe I'm the leader." "I don't know. Why don't you step closer to my claws and see if you can't find out the answer?" Once again they were at each other's throats and priming for a fight, each twin growling at one another while their ears lay flat against their heads. It all continued until Mythal spoke up about good, their attention torn elsewhere as both cranes their heads.
"Yeah! Let's get food!"
"Yeah! Let's get food!"
Still hyper as ever. Even Jellisha's normal demeanor was torn with the mention of a hot meal to go alongside a brief tour of wherever they were at. Grappa was excited to go and explore all around this place in search of treasure and fame. Jellisha, on the other hand, was far more interested in the practical aspects. What kind of power could they again, what people they could meet. Maybe even ask what kind of things there were in the works to see. Both twins would bum rushed Mythal, latching onto him with their claws and not letting go as both were equally as excited to stretch their paws and see what they could get themselves into.

Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
"Character counts most when duty calls." They certainly were an odd pair. The two exceeds really were nothing alike. So far, Grappa appeared to be very carefree, curious and excitable, eagerly looking about the room at each thing that happened to catch her eye. Jellisha, on the other hand, was more cautious, quiet, and already had a better grip on dry humor than most full grown adults that Serilda knew. As the two flew around, Mythal took the initiative to introduce her and himself. The Voidwalker suppressed the desire to smirk at Jellisha’s sarcastic comment about breaking their egg while trying to care for it. She was more than used to Mythal’s own biting humor by now and was able to keep herself controlled, but there was definitely a twinkle of mirth in her eyes. As the two of them began to squabble again, the pair of humans had their quick, quiet conversation. Mythal agreed they couldn’t just leave the exceeds unattended. They would need to find a home and either someone to care for them or a way for them to care for themselves. She was so busy keeping an eye on them while he spoke that the implications of his statement didn’t really hit her for a full three seconds. It seemed he was suggesting that exceeds often had a habit of attaching themselves to people, much like how Xiuh and Gren already were to them. Did that mean that the two of them had just accidentally gain two new additions to their lives? The thought left her a bit shocked, but by then Mythal had already suggested feeding them. Both the airborn cats were so eager for this that they immediately stopped arguing with one another to express their excitement to eat. In fact, they were so overjoyed at the idea that they both sprang at the darkness slayer and clung to him happily, claws included. It was such a comical sight seeing such innocent creatures clamor all over a man that was well known for his dislike of being touched and showing affection. Serilda had to cover her grin with her hand, though that didn’t muffle the small snort that shot from her nostrils. “Well, this way then. We’ll get you two something special from the mess hall in celebration of your birthday.” She smiled at them then, the first real show of emotion she’d given so far outside of disciplined confusion and shock. The walk to the cafeteria wasn’t a terribly long one, but they did pass by a couple places of interest. Serilda and Mythal would do their best to answer questions as the twins asked them, though a few things they wouldn’t know all the answers to. Along the way, any other knights that they passed took the time to stop and salute the two of them, only moving on after they nodded or saluted in return. Soon enough they were in the mess hall. It was a very large, plain room with a vaulted ceiling and long rows of tables and benches. It looked as though it could seat several hundred people at one time. To the far side of the room was another row of tables littered with trays full of freshly cooked food, and behind it was an oversized kitchen were cooks were all at work making lunch for the noon wave. There were already a ton of knights present and eating, most of them wearing black uniforms that were trimmed in white. Serilda lead the way to the buffet line, which was not very long. Those in line nearest them and those serving the food took the time to greet the two humans as “Marshal Sinclair” and “General Ragnos” as they dished out whatever they asked for onto their plates. “Have whatever you’d like,” she told Grappa and Jellisha. “This meal will be our treat.” There were plenty of options, so the twins were sure to find something that appealed to them. When they were ready, she brought them to the only table that was singled out by itself at the head of the room, a space that was reserved for Serilda, the Generals, and their invited guests. Serilda sat down and began to eat, keeping an eye on the Exceeds to make sure they were okay with the meal. Between bites she asked them, “So this may be a big question for you guys right now, but… do you have any goals for yourselves? Things you want to with your lives?” Words: 759/2303 |

Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
The Exceeds listened to Serilda and Mythal excitedly, each one as curious as they were. Jellisha was the more stoic of the two; remaining in the same spot and pondering along with them, while Grappa tore around the background in an excited rate. As the Jellisha started to surmise the possibility of their meeting, her sister immediately heard her name and rushed over, via her wings, proclaiming that this meeting must have been predestined. She would have continued her excited tirade if it weren’t for the other sister clamping her paw over her mouth, muffling her excitement temporarily. What followed were the official introductions to the two Exceeds; Jellisha and Grappa. The former Exceed remarked, rather sardonically about their treatment of their egg, earning her an amused snort from the Darkness King.
This, in turn, opened up a new argument between the two. Grappa argued that in the same position, they would have done the same thing. Jellisha disagreed and commented on the stability of her sister’s brains. From there, it turned into a near fight as both growled at one another and seemed prepped to launch themselves. But at the mention of food from the God Slayer, it seemed their argument was completely forgotten. Excitement rippled through their bodies and they agreed enthusiastically to getting something to eat. In a fit of energized frenzy, both of them soared through the air and tackled Mythal, their claws clinging onto his clothes and knocking him back a few steps. “Alright, guess we’re getting’ food then,” Mythal said with a hiccupped chuckle, turning and following after Serilda as she led them on. Their trek took them past some other parts of the Rune Knight headquarters and any questions were answered by either the Field Marshall or the General in turn.
But then they reached the cafeteria, the large hall meant to seat hundreds of Rune Knights at one time. Luckily the cooks were preparing for mid-afternoon and early evening meals so everything was hot and fresh. They headed to the line, falling in behind several other Knights that greeted them with their proper titling. Serilda offered to pay for the meals for the Exceeds and Mythal nodded, both in agreement and towards the food. “You heard ‘er. Anythin’ you want. Just uh… grab plates,” he explained, pointing over to the stack of dishware. He would take one for himself and show the two Exceeds what he did with it; properly scooping food onto the sleek surface. He wasn’t entirely sure how knowledgeable the Exceeds were, given that they had just been born not half an hour prior.
After that, they went over to large, solo table that was meant for the officers and VIPs. Mythal sat on the opposite side of Serilda and the Exceeds, giving Jellisha and Grappa plenty of option to look at either of them. He ate slowly, his mind still trying to wrap around everything that was happening, while Serilda went ahead and asked them what they planned on doing. It was a big question but a decent one to ask. They had just broken out of their eggs, giving birth into a strange and new world they didn’t know. They were intelligent enough to talk right from the start but still the whole idea of ‘life goals’ was probably a weighty subject. He was curious to see how they would answer.

Grappa tilted her head at the word that Serilda used. "Birthday?" The small Exceed had a look of confusion and astonishment on her face that could have just been the woman speaking in a forgotten tongue. But it seemed to make her pretty happy so that made the emerald eyed flying cat happy!~ "What's that?" Jellisha asked Mythal, hoping that maybe he would be able to shed some light on the topic. The answer would be given in whatever fashion the two of them would answer in and away the group was down the hall. While still sticking onto Mythal, Grappa and Jellisha began to climb up his chest and then shoulders before coming to rest on top of his head. They looked very pleased with their perch, with Grappa lying on top of his head while Jellisha would (begrudgingly) take up residence on the man's wide right shoulder.
They left the comfy sanctuary of the basement as their eyes darted all around the Rune Knights headquarters. Everything looked super different from wherever they were at. For starts there was a lot more decorations and things, and actual light was coming into the room! "Wow! It's super cool in here!~ Oh, what's that?" her paw flew to a nearby suit of armor. "And that?" A colorful tapestry. Grappa cheered while her body was splayed out on top of the man's head. They passed by a few people who greeted them both with a salute and called them "Marshal Sinclair" and "General Ragnos" They, of course, would look up at the two new additions and gave a look of surprise before being off on their way. It happened enough times that Grappa would begin to copy the salute herself and doing it with her own paws. "So then, uh...What's the Rune Knights?" Jellisha asked while keeping on hand on his shoulder while the other was holding onto some strands of hair to not fall off.
Then they arrived at the mess hall, where a large group of soldiers were all eating to their heart's content. The cat's noses would be up in the air as they would soon focus in on the many foods being prepared in the kitchen. "I smell..." "FIIIIIIISH!~" Grappa leaned forward to almost lose her balance and fall from atop Mythal's head but was saved by Jellisha reaching up to push her back on top of her perch. They went into the kitchen and were shown the proper way to go about getting food from the places here. Of course, Grappa had just used her paws to pick up a pastry and Jellisha was just about to dig into a spare dish but was thankfully caught in time. Their wings stretched out and each got their own plate which became loaded up with a little bit of everything. "Thank you for the food, you two." Jellisha said after sitting down on the table. Her sister joined beside her and soon would dig into their meals. Each twin had a sizable hunk of fish, alongside some more assorted dishes like some vegetables, chicken, even some beef here and there. They didn't appear much for small talk while eating, most likely due to already being overwhelmed by everything in front of them. It wasn't until Serilda's question that they opened their mouths.
"Um, what we wanna do with our lives?" "We're not sure ourselves." They answered one after the other. Jellisha would put a half eaten salmon from her mouth to answer Serilda better, her brows furrowed in thought. The exceed beside her looked just as clueless as her. "I dunno...That sounds really tough. We wanna go out and see the world and stuff but what happens when we see everything?" "Do you think there's other stuff around that we could go see?" "Maybe." Both appeared in deep thought before brushing it off and continuing to eat. Jellisha would halt for a moment before looking back up at Mythal and Serilda as her ears twitched in thought.
"Oh yeah...There was another dream we had before you guys though. Do you remember, Grappa?" Grappa would finish her take and roll on her side while still participating in the conversation though somewhat drowsy from a full stomach. "Kinda. We were in this castle place and a bunch of people were there. Was that the one?" "Yeah! And people were talking and gave us medals or something, but it was being the best magic users in the world." Both looked at the two for the reaction, which was hopefully not laughter. After taking it in, Grappa chirped up again. "Oh! I bet that's a sign too! So, what if we dreamed by that because we wanted that to happen super bad?" "I dunno. Does it work like that?" Jellisha asked. "It's something at least."

Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
"Character counts most when duty calls." She probably should have guessed that they wouldn’t know what a birthday was, but honestly it was a little difficult to judge what they did and didn’t know considering that they had quite literally started talking, walking, and flying as soon as they’d hatched. They asked Mythal what a birthday was and Serilda would let him answer, mostly because she was still having to keep herself under control to keep from outright laughing at the sight of the poor man having two cats crawling and clamoring all over him. They asked many questions during the walk to the mess hall, but the one that stood out the most was when they inquired about the organization the two slayers ran. “The Rune Knights are a group of people that serve our country and enforce its laws,” she told them, trying to keep the explanation as concise as possible to keep from overloading them with information. “Our primary job is to protect people by finding and catching criminals that try to hurt them.” There was a lot more to it than that, of course, but it was the general gist of what they did. When they got to the cafeteria, it did not take long for the two exceeds to smell what was clearly their preferred food: fish. She wasn’t sure how they knew what fish actually was. Perhaps it was an instinctive thing. Either way, Mythal guided them through the line and helped them get things on their plate while Serilda took care of the bill. “You’re quite welcome,” she told them with a smile as they thanked the two slayers and sat down with them. Her question about what they wanted to do with their lives was certainly a loaded one, so she didn’t interrupt them at all as they gave it some thought and talked it over with one another. When they described their dream about being the best mages in the world and receiving medals, Serilda chuckled. “That’s certainly a worthwhile dream,” she told them. “I haven’t met many Exceeds, but my understanding is that you are capable of using magic. So if that is something you want to do, I’m sure you can make it happen. You just need to find a place that will help teach you. There are a lot of great wizarding guilds around here. The Rune Knights also have many wizards in their ranks. Mythal and myself are among them. We can help you do some research if you’d like. You certainly don’t have to have any answers today. It’s a big decision.” Words: 445/2748 |

Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
Serilda had defined today as the two Exceed’s birthdays and yet, the word was foreign to them. They both looked at the two Rune Knights in confusion and finally Jellisha turned her attention to Mythal, asking him what that was. As they left the basement, he scratched his chin in thought. [color=#dc0404]“A birthday is literally the day of your birth. It’s the first day you step into the world as a fully conscious… well, you,” he explained, gesturing to the two Exceeds. “Most people celebrate birthdays because with each one, you get a year older and a year wiser or so some say. You guys may have been in that egg for a bit but today is the first day you took yer first steps. So since its your birthday, we should celebrate it.” He’d never had to explain such a phenomenon before to anyone. He could barely remember when Gren had told him what it was, all those years ago in his youth. Even then he hadn’t exactly seen the purpose of celebrating it. But now that he was present for the birth of the two girls… it had struck an odd chord.
The fact that they were climbing over him and making a perch out of him didn’t help that feeling. He had to fight the smile threatening to grace his mouth as they walked through the headquarters. Mythal and Serilda would do their best to explain everything they asked about, no matter how menial it was. The God Slayer nodded to a few of the soldiers as they passed in greetings, repaying their proper hails. As Jellisha hung off of him and asked about the Rune Knights, he explained. “The Rune Knights are a group of men and women that protect the world from evil. There are a lot of people out there that want to do nasty things with their magic and we make sure to stop them and protect others from them.” He chanced a look at Serilda, smiling softly.
Fish was the one thing that stuck out to the Exceeds, as they Grappa nearly toppled off his head in excitement. They went into the kitchen and gave the girls a quick introduction on how to properly plate their food. They picked up on it rather quickly, even if they were eager to grab at first. Once they got to their table, they were thanked and could finally dig into the food. Mythal watched the Exceeds dig into their food, chuckling as they dove right in without pause or care. Serilda’s question halted their hasty consumption, the heaviness of her query giving them pause. Like anyone young – or frankly anyone period – they didn’t really know what they wanted to do with their lives. They thought about it for a moment, rambling off about wanting to see the world but worrying about losing the opportunity to discover more. “Well I can tell ya that I’ve been here for over three decades and I ain’t seen everythin’ yet. So I don’t think ya gotta worry about that.”
The Exceeds continued, remembering another dream they had while slumbering. They talked about being in a castle and getting medals, as if they were being honored for their abilities or actions. The very notion seemed odd to them, as they wondered aloud if such things were on par with life goals. Mythal chuckled again. “Most people think so. If yer dreamin’ about somethin’, chances are it’s somethin’ you really want. And if I’m bein’ real honest, that sounds a lot like here. It ain’t exactly a castle but the headquarters is similar to that. And gettin’ a medal for bein’ the best ain’t somethin’ that has happened but it always could. Kind of sounds like yer two dreams kind of mixed together. You’re in the Rune Knight headquarters and you’re with two of its main officers.”

Well, from the sound of it, the two Exceeds were in the right place! they both continued to snack down on the meal of fish while listening to the two officers talk about what life was like here. the Rune Knights were pretty interesting on paper. "Wow, so you guys are like heroes!" Grappa said, rocking back and forth on her seat. "You protect people from the bad guys and make sure nobody gets hurt!" her sister stopped cowing down on her fish just in time to digest the information given and pause to reflect upon it. Her ears flopped together while nobbling one a piece of meat with her fork. "That...sounds like a good start. Learn how to cast magic and things here with you guys, then maybe when we're better we can actually become the strongest wizards." "Can Exceeds be wizards?" the other sibling asked both keepers. Regardless of the answers give, Grappa would think to herself for a bit. During this time, she would be busy shoveling the last remaining remnants of her chicken platter into her mouth and sprawling herself all over the table. Her tail flickered every now and again, showing her content with the meal. Her sibling continued to speak with Seri and Mythal, growing full herself while she looked at the white haired woman.
"So you guys are officers?" she asked. The Rune Knights must have had pretty cool people inside of it. Sure these two looked kind of like a rich woman and her pet boy toy, but Jellisha had a feeling that they housed more than what their surface value was. That and the fact she was less than an hour old. "Our minds are made up. We want to do just that. Become the strongest wizards ever. Or be heroes like you two. Would you two be willing to help us do that?" The girl's eyes held a fiery determination. one that was as clear as day. She possessed the will and drive to become the best there ever was. "We'll even join the Rune Knights to help more people. Anything to become heroes. So, you wanna?"

Re: Did We Just Become Cat Parents?
Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
Serilda smiled when Grappa asked if exceeds could be wizards. “They sure can,” she told them. “All you need is some training, and we can help make sure you get that.” It didn’t take them long to decide that being Rune Knights was exactly what they wanted to do. Even though the girls were less than a day old, the decision to let them into the Rune Knights was a bit more complicated than it might otherwise seem on the surface. They were definitely children, but Exceeds were a completely different race that clearly aged and matured faster than humans. There really was no reason for Serilda to say no. “I think we can arrange that,” she told them, knowing that Mythal wasn’t likely to object. “We just need to make sure you guys are set up with a place to live.” Serilda glanced up at her partner, exchanging a look with him to have a silent conversation in the way that only a couple that truly understood one another could do. The girls were just so young, and they needed a lot more guidance than most people would. The Rune Knights could easily offer them up a place to live, but they would still be mostly on their own trying to learn the world around them with no clear source of direction. Assuming that Mythal didn’t show any objection, Serilda looked back down at the girls. “How about this. We don’t want you to have to live here by yourselves trying to figure things out on your own. Why don’t you two come stay with Mythal and me for a while? At least until you reach a place where you can handle yourselves…” |
