Katsumi cut down a thief. Great another dead. At least this time, he wasn't helpless on the pavement. The swords woman shuddered in memory. This job had been offered to her by her boyfriend like the last one had been. He'd been worried that she was moping around the house after the death of a dark mage at her hands. Or maybe he'd been simply annoyed. It was hard to tell with Ravenswood being all proper and such. Regardless, he was trying to support her. And that was in spite of all the crap he was getting from the 'high society'. No one approved of his courting a 'lowly' mage. One that didn't even have a guild. She hoped that he wouldn't change his mind because of it. Katsumi liked having Ravenswood by her side when she needed him. Not to mention that the sex was great.

A shot rang out. Katsumi raised her free hand to her ear. It came away tinged with blood. She scowled. There were five gunslingers dodging through the village. Whenever they got a shot, the other bandits would disappear. It prevented the annoying bastards from hitting their companions. And here came the other bandits now. She intercepted the dagger with her sword. A kick to the gut sent the thief stumbling backward. A noise made Katsumi reverse her blade and stab. There was a slight resistance from the movement. Two thieves down. A spin kept a dagger from planting itself in her spin. A spell took care of that thief. She turned with a quick one two step and stabbed again. Four thieves down.

According to her intel, thirty bandits were inhabiting this town. They'd stolen the place from its former inhabitants. For what purpose, Katsumi couldn't be sure. With the thieves dealt with, Katsumi stepped into the shadow of another building. It wasn't wise to stay out in the open with the gunslingers sniping at her. Katsumi frowned as something came to her. Where did the bandits all disappear to when the gunslingers had their shots lined up? There was only one real answer. Into the buildings. Katsumi dove through a window. Her body, still healing from its ordeal, protested the violent movement. There was no time to whine about it. Her hunch had been correct.

Six thieves stood around her. Katsumi cut the legs out from the nearest one. She stepped to the side and spun, her sword at chest level. A spell was unleashed when she stopped. Only one thief remained standing. She seemed stunned by the carnage Katsumi had wrought in only a few seconds. Katsumi gave her a slight bow. The thief screamed. The swords woman frowned stepped up quickly and knocking the woman out with the flat of her blade. What had been the purpose of that? It hadn't accomplished anything. All it had done was waste time.

Bullets tore through the walls of the building. Katsumi threw herself on the ground. So that was the point of the scream. The sneaky little thief had been summoning her pals. Great. Once the shooting stopped, Katsumi leapt to her feet. Bandits tried to force their way into the house. Katsumi cut them down, using the small space to her advantage. Her sword darted in, her feet moved, the black swords woman lived up to her name. When Katsumi was done, there was only a single bandit left standing. Presumably the leader.

"Scourge I presume" Katsumi said, her breath coming in short hard bursts. The bandit leader slowly raised his hands. The swords woman blew out an irritated breath. "Really? You're going to-" Scourge was standing with his hands above his head. A clear sign of surrender. It was suspicious to the swords woman. It felt a little too easy. "Kneel. Put your hands behind your head." The bandit did as commanded. Katsumi walked up to him and gave the man a hard rap with the flat of her sword. She wasn't taking any chances. He crumpled at her feet.

Satisfied the job was done, Katsumi reverted the sword to its handle form. She looked around the building. It was a vision of carnage. Katsumi felt a little sick to her stomach. Such a waste of life. Such wasted potential. Who knew what these men and women could have done with their lives? Katsumi turned away when she could look no more. She would become stronger. She would become strong enough that no one had to die on a job. Good or bad.
