-Silver Wolf Guild Hall, Guild Library-

It had been several hours since Silver Wolf had received a new shipment of books from the Order of Lightbringers for helping Jessica retrieve the Essence Orb from an underground laboratory hidden under the Abandoned Cabin. Wearing her green-and-gold outfit and Argent Gloves, Leona was supervising the inclusion of the new books into the guild library, books which were all on the subject of how to recognize and kill various types of zombies. That had the potential to be more useful than it sounded since all zombies were not the slow ones from Lacrima movies and shows... Leona learned that the hard way from encounters with "fast" zombies in Beanstalk Forest and Fulci Cemetery. Perhaps other members of the guild who were not combat-oriented like her would find that information useful.

Leona was busy nominally supervising the process when she received a letter from a guild staff member. Since the guild librarians were all skilled in their craft, she left them to their work and looked over the letter, which was written on old-fashioned parchment using ink that was strange. It was not like any type of ink that she had ever seen before.

"It's ink made out of berries. It's an old craft that has been all but forgotten in this day and age of modern conveniences." An older staff member answered the question that had not yet been asked. Leona looked over her shoulder to find an older woman she had seen on several occasions before but had never taken the time to learn her name. The woman wore thick brown-rimmed glasses and wore simple, businesslike gray robes.

"Really?" Leona asked out of curiosity. The old woman nodded.

"My brother's a hermit. He got tired of life in Capital Crocus and moved to Serene Cliff to live in nature. Speaking of which... say, do you mind if I see that letter?" The woman asked.

"Sure. Here you go." Leona said, handing over the letter to the staff member. Her eyes moved side to side as she looked over the letter and its handwriting. Her eyes lit up in recognition.

"This letter's from my brother Robert. He lives in Serene Cliff and is asking us to help him get supplies, namely food. He's starting to run low and is looking for someone to go to his home and get his supply list." She summarized the letter to Leona. Leona was curious. Why did Robert send the letter to Silver Wolf? It did not matter. Silver Wolf would take the job.

"OK. I'll do it." Leona informed the woman, who handed her the job notice and produced a piece of paper to write a note to post on the Guild Master's office door. Leona went back to her room to get her weapons and supplies. The blonde grabbed her backpack, Nightshade Machete, and Silver Longsword in case she ran into any supernatural threats on the trip. She then shut her room door and went into the foyer to run over a mental checklist of supplies for the trip.

    Leila Vergious

    “The Art of Celestial Reading”

“Golden Zodiac Keys and their supposed Origins”

“Keys of Void - an extensive autobiography of a famous summoner”

So many interesting sounding titles, yet none of these books seemed to have the information Leila required. Well, that much she had to expect. After all, her problem appeared to be much more of personal value, rather than something she could find an answer for in a general textbook. And nearly all of the books writing about the topic of Gardens of Eden were destroyed in the past, leaving only a handful scattered around the world, this library not having a single one of them.

Sighing, the girl had put down another one as she looked around. The underground portion of Silver Wolf that had been expanded during her absence, it seemed quite busy today. Apparently, because new books were being added. Though none of them being of the topic that Leila required. Shaking her head at it all, she had gotten up and stretched a bit as Melon nuzzled against her legs. The poor pup was a bit neglected as the owner searched for an answer as to why her celestial summoning magic was not quite working.

Sorry… I promise to play plenty when I figure this one out. In the meantime, you can go chew on Yuvon’s mask, he’ll give you plenty of attention then~.” Bending down to scratch her beloved companion behind the ears before watching her bolt out of the library in search of the masked libraries gave the girl a good bit of comfort. Some things still appeared to be just how they were when she was the guild master. Deciding to head out herself and pick something up from her room, Leila also climbed the stairs into the lobby and then the first floor where all the personal quarters were.

Though an unexpected encounter awaited there for her, a blonde-haired girl who now operated as the new master of the guild appeared to be standing in front of her own room, reading to head out. Realizing that Leila didn’t talk with Leona nearly as much as she probably should, the silver-haired girl felt a bit embarrassed, quickly scooting herself over to the younger female and waving at her. “Hey there. A lovely day we’re having, right?” Something casual to break the ice that was starting a conversation.

But a second look quickly showed Leila that Leona was probably heading out of the guild, given the state of her gear and all. She even appeared to be radiating a bit of a determined aura. Which was definitely good, Silver Wolf needed dedicated mages to complete the task sent in just like any other magical guild. “Heading out? I won’t get in your way if it’s something important.” While she did want to have a bit of a chat, she also didn’t want to interfere with whatever Leona had to do. Which made this approach just a little bit more awkward than it needed to be.

Leona made sure that she had everything before setting out. She had all her weapons, supplies, the job notice, the original letter from Robert, and everything she needed except to actually start the mission. It sounded simple on the surface. Her goal was to go to Serene Cliff and learn what supplies Robert needed, then go and purchase them for him and bring them back to the hermit. This sounded like the sort of job where the only resistance she encountered would be from wildlife or from there not being a certain item in stock.

While it was not as glamorous as the jobs the Order of Lightbringers had been giving her, it was nice to go on a job where something was not trying to murder her every five minutes. At least that was what she was hoping would happen. She could be attacked by bandits on the road or by wild animals looking for prey, so a peaceful job could not be taken for granted. She had expected a three-day holiday on Crescent Island but ended up working as part-time security for a business seminar the whole three days and stopping a gun-wielding robber with a single punch to the chest. Hopefully today's job would be similarly uneventful.

Leona was just about to set out for Serene Cliff when Leila Vergious spoke to her. It was strange to see the former Guild Master walking the halls once again and even stranger to hear her voice. It had been a long time since they had last spoken to one another. Leona was quick to speak to Leila.

"Yeah, it's a pretty good day so far. I'm about to go on a job to Serene Cliff. A hermit needs someone to go on a supply run for him." Leona said to Leila. Seeing the former Guild Master as a rank-and-file member was a sight that the blonde was still trying to get used to. It was strange to be higher in rank than the guild's founder... Leona could have never predicted that happening and would not have believed it if someone told her that she was going to lead Silver Wolf one day. Then the blonde had an idea.

"Would you like to come with me on this job?" Leona asked Leila. This was Leona's second chance to get to know something about Leila besides her name. The blonde had better not waste the opportunity.

So in the end, it appeared that her presence was indeed desired. At least to some level. But even if it was just Leona being polite, the silver-haired maiden figured she should use this situation to her advantage and try to break whatever barriers were between herself and her new guild master. After all, the rank difference was not as important as many would think. And for the working of the guild itself, it was important that she would keep a good and healthy relationship with the one in charge now.

Then, if you’ll have me…” Leila smiled and clapped her hands together. She didn’t even bother mentioning and offering the use of her warp magic, as this job sounded… well, far from what an individual of Leona’s rank should be doing. Which meant that she probably wanted the peaceful adventure and not just blow this all off in few minutes by utilizing such tools. Leila herself could understand that very well, as still had that heart of an adventurer. And indeed, participating in such a ‘walk’ would surely do her some good.

And so the maiden had joined her new lead and remained silent for a bit. Though as they would reach the exit of the building, she would look up at the snow-painted skies high above. “Someone else being the Guild Master of a guild that I have created while I still live in this realm… it’s certainly something I didn’t expect and will have to get used to.” Her voice was calm and fluent, followed by a small wink at the other girl. Leila held absolutely no ill will towards Leona. Quite the opposite, really. She was glad that the guild as being cared for.

At the end of the day, Leila had failed, in a sense. She left for Eden to sort out her personal business, leaving Silver Wolf behind. With that view and a strict mindset, she didn’t deserve to continue holding the position of power. She just wanted to make it clear, that all she wanted was for the guild to prosper, no matter who was considered the master. “I… hope you’re not too upset with me. It was never my intent to leave without notice and for so long. It felt like few mere days for me…

The Shatter. An event that whisked Leila away. She wasn’t even sure what all transpired during it. But she knew that it was essential for her very being. It even completely changed the Gardens of Eden. But that was not here, nor there. Right now, it was all about Leona and Leila, together in this small and peaceful adventure. So she would let the other girl talk and show her feelings as well, only hoping that she would be able to accept them without any problems.

"I'd like someone to travel with me on a job. I haven't been on a job with a guildmate in awhile... not since that Santa invasion in Era, anyway." Leona said to Leila. She was glad that the invasion had been halted without too much violence thanks to the efforts of Yuvon, Adalinda, Garnet, and especially Song, who saved the day thanks to a successful appeal to Santa to stop the invasion and put a halt to his plans to depopulate Earthland. Until that point Leona had been running a lot of jobs by herself out of habit. Other guild members had their own adventures going on and she did not want to interrupt what they were doing. Part of the blonde was also afraid to test her abysmal leadership skills because the lives of her guild members would be on the line, possibly against enemies who did not respond to emotional appeals.

"I also forgot the last peaceful job I went on. Lately my jobs have been fighting various types of supernatural enemies. Slow zombies, fast zombies, demons conjured by illusions, ghosts... I've been pretty busy lately." Leona admitted to the former Guild Master. Leona had taken on quite a few fighting jobs lately, but for good reason. The guild's library was being expanded with the latest books on various supernatural threats the guild might encounter in the field. However, the blonde was starting to wonder if her continued work with the Order of Lightbringers was worth the trouble because her assignments kept getting more and more hazardous. Right now the Order kept giving her strong and skilled mages for support, but Leona worried that one day that support might be conveniently withdrawn, leaving her to take on a dangerous job alone.

Taking on dangerous jobs alone was nothing new to the Silver Wolf Guild Master, but she was glad to have support for jobs taking place in the Cursed Lands. She had kind of grown to like the irrepressible enthusiasm of Order Knight Jessica and the wit of Order Cleric Athena. They were not nearly as staid as Order Knight Diana and Order Cleric Amanda. The redhead and brunette also seemed to trust Leona a lot more than the second pair did. Trusting one's job partner was of the utmost importance when out on a dangerous assignment because trust often made the difference between coming back alive or not coming back at all.

She remembered Leila's comment about someone else being the master of the guild that she created. The blonde blushed because it was a bit awkward for her to be higher in rank than her former superior in the guild hierarchy. Leila was a poised and elegant Guild Master; in contrast Leona seemed to be bumbling about trying to play catch-up with the leaders of Fairy Tail and West Fiore Trading Company.

"I never expected to become Guild Master, to be honest. I was an Ace and Poko Monstar was the Guild Master after you went missing. Then one day Poko left without a trace and I found that I was appointed the new Guild Master. It's been pretty interesting ever since." Leona explained in an inelegant and awkward way. She was still struggling to find her style as a Guild Master but could never quite seem to find it. That was likely due to her always being in the field instead of at her desk. Since the guild was still fairly small in comparison to more established guilds, Leona had to keep going into the field in order to keep the guild in the public eye. The blonde needed to become an administrator as well as a fighter, a task which was quite difficult for her to accomplish.

When reminded of the issue of her feelings about Leila's disappearance, Leona's face turned red in embarrassment. She had not thought too much about it. That was not out of callousness or indifference, but rather because she had been rather busy with guild work and keeping the alliance going. Ever since Poko left, someone had to keep the lights on and the paperwork filed.

"I haven't had much time to think about your disappearance, Leila." Leona blurted out before she realized what she had just said and turned beet-red. She felt so awkward. Leila was opening up to her and the blonde had to go and kill the moment with an awkward and insensitive utterance.

"But I don't hold it against you, Leila. I don't have any right to hold it against you. I don't have any right to judge." Leona said to Leila. Just like with Eoduun back in Era several months ago, Leona had no right to judge Leila. Judgment of the former Guild Master would have to fall to someone else.

"I'm just glad you're back." Leona said to Leila with sincerity. The blonde was not going to posture and pretend that she did not have feelings. She was glad to see Leila again and glad to have a chance to fix at least one of the numerous mistakes she had made over the course of her mage career.

    Leila Vergious

I see, I see. So you have been part of that incident as well. And yes, it is always nice to have someone else with you on an adventure.” Leila had to admit that much. Despite her many solo adventures in the past, the path always seemed just that bit easier and more cheerful if it was being shared with another eager traveler. Though in this case, they were merely going to the Serene Cliffs which was not that much of an adventure. Still, it was a good chance to talk and share some things with one another.

Jobs like that are an unfortunate byproduct of growing in power. Very few will call for a high-ranked mage to do their daily chores, after all. And not many outside of our ranks can deal with true threats. But worry not, I’m sure you will follow in my footsteps and be facing off with giant dragons the size of a city without any problems in no time!” Half jesting and half serious, Leila chuckled a bit along with her own words. Those fights could be devastating, yes. But sometimes also a bit fun.

Still, a peaceful job as always a nice one. Gives you the chance to relax and reflect on everything around you. To think clearly.” In fact, most of what Leila used to do before she came to Fiore lacked combat of any kind. But then again, she also wasn’t exactly a proper mage back then. Her father was also able to always protect her from anything that could cause harm. Ah, those days were so much more simple than what she had to be dealing with now. But wasn’t it always like that, for everyone? The feeling that the past was so much more simple.

The girl listened to her guild master’s words, processing them slowly. It spoke about a few things, the fact that Leila herself was replaced and perhaps even considered permanently gone after she had been missing for what appeared to be only a few months. On the other hand, Leona said she could not hold it against her. Hold what against her? The fact that she unwillingly abandoned them all? Ah, yes, that was another way to look at this situation with. She had unwillingly left everyone behind without even really realizing it, because of things out of her own control. That was… frustrating, to say the least.

But past is in the past indeed. Though, seeing you in charge of a guild I created… I figured you might be interested in the full story of how and why I created Silver Wolf. After all, only my spirits and father know. No human does, yet.” Turning to the side and looking down at the smaller female, she smiled. “Only if you want to, of course.” The story was somewhat personal, but also important to understand her own motivations. And the origins of everything they had right now.

And seeing how this is your job and I’m merely helping, I will also let you lead the way.” Stopping momentarily and extending her hand to the side in a gesture for Leona to take the charge was of metaphorical importance to the caretaker of Eden. There were many things she had to get used to, this being one of them. And she wanted to believe that everything would be okay. Plenty of beings in this world were far better than she herself. Leona could surely be one of them, too. The young guild master was doing quite well so far, after all.

"Thankfully I was not alone for the Santa Invasion job. I had a few other mages with me, including Song and Yuvon. Yuvon was a big help by helping me boost my magic power enough to turn the tables and clear a path to Santa. Song helped end the fighting with an emotional appeal to Santa, who turned and left without further violence. Yuvon and Song are mages to watch." Leona said to Leila. Both mages had magic and attitudes that could take them far in the magic world. It would be foolish to ignore them as they became stronger. Leona's attention turned to Leila's assertion about the perils and responsibilities attendant to being a high-ranking mage.

"You're right, Leila. I try to take an easy job or two every once in awhile, but most of the time I take more difficult jobs to put the guild's name out there. We don't have the name recognition of the more established guilds, so I do what I can to build up our reputation. We're a scholarly guild, but lately I've been fighting more than I have been studying because evil never takes a day off." Leona explained to the former Guild Master. She had been doing everything she could to update the guild's library, which was why she continued to work with the Order of Lightbringers despite the risks and the seeming lack of trust that they put in her. She needed to find another way to update the guild's books, but until she found that other way she would keep working with the Order because her work helped keep evil at bay just a little bit longer. The blonde could not stand by and let evil take over Earthland while she camped out in her guild hall. She would fight for as long as she could until she could no longer fight.

"I tried to take a peaceful three-day vacation to Crescent Island, but I ended up being drafted into security for a business conference. I also ended up stopping a robber with a gun with a single punch. I'll try to find another peaceful job some day. I like fighting the good fight, but sometimes I want to do an activity without something trying to kill me every five minutes." Leona gave a very brief description of her ill-fated vacation to Crescent Island. Due to hotel security experiencing a shortage of staff, Leona had been drafted as temporary hotel security in order to safeguard a business meeting of executives and employees from a company based in Motor City. It was safe work that did not require much more than standing around and keeping nosy people out of the room, but it was also monotonous and full of buzzwords that she could not even begin to comprehend. Even weeks after the meeting she was still not sure if that company boss had ever said anything that ordinary people could comprehend. She was not sure if he knew what "quick liaising" and "fast efficiency" were other than the latest round of corporate buzzwords being thrown around by companies.

Leona's head starting spinning when she recalled all the buzzwords thrown about at that business seminar. She snapped out of it when Leila offered to tell her the full story of how and why the former Guild Master created Silver Wolf. That was definitely a story that the blonde wanted to hear some time soon.

"I'd be interested in hearing the story, Leila. You can tell me whenever you're ready." Leona assured the silver-haired young woman. She had never known the story behind the guild's creation, but she had just been told why that was so... Leila had never told the story to any human before. Only her spirits and her father knew the tale behind Silver Wolf's creation. To hear the full story straight from the source would be a great honor for the blonde. However, that might have to wait until this job was over.

Leona opened the door to the guild hall and held it open for Leila. Now came the question of travel arrangements. She did not know if Leila liked to fly or to walk.

"So, Leila... do you want to fly to Serene Cliff or do you want to walk?" Leona asked her job partner.

It seemed that Leona was the same as always. A little too formal for Leila’s liking and lovingly talking about others. But such was this girl’s personality it seemed. Honestly, it might have even been a nice change of pace. Most mages and adventurers these days could not talk about anything other than themselves and their own amazing powers. Not that this new guild master would not talk about her own ventures at all, they were most certainly present. And it was all the nicer to see that she was doing her very best to help the guild out as much as she could.

Although the goddess in disguise couldn’t quite help herself and cringe just a tiny bit as she heard those words. Ready to hear it whenever you are. The pained expression tried to convey that she was planning about telling the tale now, but who knew if Leona was actually able to read such expression. Not that it mattered, really. Even if it would not be told right now, there was plenty of time in the future. Especially for someone like Leila. It made her wonder if there ever would be anyone who would want to listen to all of her interesting tales.

All that aside, the two girls came to a sudden halt with a question of how they should approach this little walk of theirs. “Hm? Do you have some practical means of actually flying there?” It brought up a sad memory of how Leila was unable to actually execute her original idea for  Silver Wolf. An evermoving guild hall in the form of a giant flying ship. The sole idea of having a city on top of an airborne vehicle got the girl excited. Alas, constructing something like that was a bit out of the goddess’ budget.

If you have some means of comfortable flight for us, then sure. We can arrive there through the skies. But I don’t mind walking either if that’s what we end up with. Regardless, we will have plenty of time to tell one another whatever comes to mind.” A smile was directed at the blonde. There was a part of Leila that wanted to see what the lioness would do now. What exactly was she hiding up her sleeves? Because Leila could always fly with her own wings, but that was not always the most impressive of ways to travel.

There was also always the option of calling Melon, who was somewhere in the guild hall currently. The wolf was able to grow to any size required and sprout wings at command. Truly a majestic beast that Leila had the privilege of calling her own. Leona just had to say the word and the goddess would call her loyal guardian for this task that it would follow through with absolutely no problem at all. It was kinda amusing how far she had come with all of these options when in the past she had to get an ordinary horse all the time.

Leona was kind of surprised that Leila actually went for the idea of flying. She figured that Leila would want to walk everywhere, just like the blonde used to before she learned Wind Summon Magic and started hitching a ride with her harpies. Now flying was a lot more convenient unless she absolutely had to walk somewhere for a job. It let the Guild Master arrive to a job site in better shape because she was not tired from travel and was ready to fight or explore. It was oddly appropriate that this job was taking place at the very location that she learned to use Wind Summon Magic.

"I've got a Winged Lion summon that we can use. If you're afraid of heights like I am, he's the best way to travel. He can suppress your fear of heights for as long as you're a passenger." Leona offered a good mode of transportation to Leila. The Winged Lion was a lifesaver because he could suppress Leona's acrophobia and let her fly much higher than normal without issue. That property saved her life in the ruins beneath Nebdoui because he flew her at a height that was harder for the mummified crocodiles to reach with their jumps. If she had used Rafale or her harpies, she would have had to fly much lower and thus become easier prey for the creatures.

"I'll go outside and summon him so that you can see for yourself." Leona said to Leila before opening the door and exiting the guild hall.

    -Outside the guild hall-

Leona stepped outside the guild hall and walked into a clearing, where she raised her hands, focused energy into them, and called out the summon phrase.

"WINGED LION SUMMON!" Leona called out. The Winged Lion soon appeared in the skies above and made his way down to Leona, landing right in front of her and folding up its wings before pulling them back. He was a fully grown male lion complete with mane and light brown fur, so Leila could not miss him standing in front of the Guild Master.

"You have need for me?" the Winged Lion asked his mistress.

"Yes. I'll need you to transport me and a friend to Serene Cliff. But first my friend wants to see you before she takes a ride." Leona answered the lion's question. The lion slowly let out a puff of air from his mouth like a human sighing.

"Very well then. I shall wait for this friend of yours to arrive so that she can determine if being a passenger of mine is a good idea." He said to Leona, his golden eyes looking her over. He looked almost insulted at the implication that Leila did not trust him to safely get her to Serene Cliff. Lions were said to be proud creatures and this one was no exception.

"OK. Thanks." Leona said to her summon to assuage his wounded pride. Leona's summons were not just mindless beasts to be commanded and used for transport and fighting. They all had their own personalities and quirks, but Leona was fine with that. She had grown to like her summons because she relied on them so much to help her in times of need as well as for everyday transport. They shouldered the responsibility without a single word of protest... well, except for her Harpy Sisters.

Daphne was the most vocal of the trio and would not hesitate to let Leona know whenever she disliked something. Sandy and Sylvia tried to keep her on the straight and narrow, but they did not always succeed. Again Leona was fine with that because they had bailed her out of several bad situations in the past and had earned a lot of leeway.

A winged lion summon… so you’re a summoner as well, huh…” Somehow, Leila did not quite expect that. Which only showed how little she knew about her former guild member, now a guild master. Shameful on her, really. Wherever were the days when she was able to completely memorize the member roster of Golden Phoenix so that she would not have any problems acting as the newest Ace? Far in the past was the answer to that question. But still, a ‘winged lion’ seemed rather appropriate for the girl, which made Leila chuckle just a bit as she followed her outside.

She didn’t exactly have any business left to finish here, so why would she stay behind. But letting Leona have her space, the goddess leaned against one of the walls of the Wolf’s Den as she observed. Rather than celestial summoning, it appeared to be the more common familiar type one. Not that it was worse in any way. Honestly, summoning as a whole was a bit rarer in Leila’s experience. The people she worked with often excelled in destructive magics that came directly from their bodies. It also painfully reminded her of her own state at this point in time.

Despite being a grand celestial summoner, she was unable to bring forth her spirits at all. Well… there were two exceptions to that, as two of her spirits were so powerful that they could invade Earthland through their own will and have enough magical energy of their own to sustain their manifested forms for extended periods of time. Which still didn’t improve the fact that Leila’s summoning was not working. As far as she discovered, it might have been related to her not possessing Libra’s key anymore. It disappeared somewhere when the girl was returned to Eden for those few months she was absent from Earthland.

In the end, that involuntary trip cost her much more than she could have ever imagined. Thankfully, she was already well on her way to find that key and reclaim it. Looking for something so small in a world this big was not easy, but that was where her prior experience came in. As ashamed as she was of that fact, she had lost the key before once already. Though to be perfectly fair, that was because of her own death. Well… ‘death’ in Leila’s language, as her spiritual form was well and truly immortal.

No, she had tried to sacrifice herself for someone. Attempting to convert every fiber of her being into pure magic to cast an extremely powerful barrier to erase and seal magic from this another person who had lost control of their own divine powers. But who in the world it was, she could not remember. Her memory was very hazy in that area ever since she returned here. But she was sure that all of her questions would be answered in time. For now, there was only one thing to focus on and that was helping Leona.

Walking over to the winged beast, she eyed it a bit before leaning in with a smile. “Oh my, what a powerful summon. You’ve certainly grown a lot, Leona. And you, mister Lion, nice to meet you and please, take good care of me!” Essentially saying that she was okay with the mount and attempting to praise them both as well. Once everything was settled and she would be allowed to hop on, she would turn 180 degrees and hop onto the Lion’s back right behind Leona, having both of her legs on one side as she sat comfortably with no fear of possibly falling off. “Shall we take off then?

"I'm a summoner now. I learned that magic shortly after you disappeared and Poko became Guild Master. I received the scroll that taught me the magic shortly after I became a Guild Ace." Leona explained part of the story to Leila. Again the blonde found it amusing that she would be taking a job in the very area where she learned the summoning magic. She felt inclined to share the story of how she learned the magic with Leila.

"It's called Wind Summon Magic and the scroll for it was found in my home village in Desierto. My village's chief sent it to me as thanks for saving a couple childhood friends of mine and stealing a magic tablet from the Crimson Sashes." Leona began the story of how she became a summoner. She realized that she had never learned what made the tablet so special other than it reacted to magic. She would have to rectify that soon, but for now she had to make the supply run with Leila.

"Strangely enough, the place we're going is the same place I first learned to use Wind Summon Magic. The first creatures I ever summoned were a trio of harpy sisters. My first flight with the Harpy Sisters was kind of... rough." Leona told Leila. She did not want to frighten the silver-haired mage before taking flight or disgust her with the story of how Leona landed from the first flight and threw up in the bushes. That was not Leona's proudest moment, but it was an important one because she and the harpy sisters learned to get along and treat each other with respect instead of Leona shouting orders at them and mistreating them to establish who was "in charge."

Leona listened to Leila compliment her on her power and kept silent. She had a long way to go before she could equal Leila, Johann, Ruvel, Sorano, or the other famous mages of Earthland. However, hearing praise from the former Guild Master was never a bad thing because it made Leona feel like all of her efforts to date were not a waste of time.

"Thanks Leila. I've been trying to get strong enough to protect Silver Wolf because there are always enemies looking for a moment of weakness to exploit. I won't let them destroy what you and Poko worked so hard for." Leona assured Leila. The blonde never thought that she would become so devoted to a single group, but the guild protected her when she was at her weakest and gave her a second family after she was exiled from her home of sixteen years. Even though the exile had been rescinded and peace had been made with Joshua Hamlin, Leona was not about to give up on Silver Wolf and walk into the sunset. Being Guild Master had a lot of responsibilities, responsibilities she was going to carry out for as long as she could.

"Don't worry, Leila. The lion's got this. He's my go-to summon for outdoor travel because he eases my fear of heights so that I can fly higher than treetop level... but we might need a backup in case the wind gets turbulent. We may also need an aerial escort." Leona said. She then raised her hands to the sky and channeled magic power.

"O FABLED HARPIES, O SISTERS THREE, LEND YOUR STRENGTH UNTO ME!" Leona called out. The harpies arrived in a kneeling position and stood up at once.

    "Hey girl!" Sylvia called out.

"Like, who's the silver-haired chick? She's pretty cute. Did you, like, get a girlfriend in between all the jobs you do?" Daphne asked. Leona blushed in embarrassment.

"Daphne, I don't think Leona has a girlfriend. She has a friend who's a girl. There's a difference." Sandy said to her sister.

"She's Leila Vergious and she's not my girlfriend." Leona explained to Daphne. She then turned to Leila.

"Leila, I'd like you to meet my Harpy Sister summons. The redhead with light purple wings is Sylvia, the black-haired girl with dark purple wings is Daphne, and the brunette with green wings is Sandy." Leona introduced Leila to her summons, pointing out each one in turn. The summons waved a clawed hand at the silver-haired mage.

"All right then. Hang on, because we're about to get going!" Leona suggested to Leila.

"To Serene Cliff!" Leona said to the Winged Lion as she climbed on its back.

"It will be done." He said before flapping his mighty wings and taking to the sky. The harpy trio followed right behind them.

    Leila Vergious

Wind summon magic… that too sounded oddly familiar to Leila, invoking some mild headache that quickly came to pass. If this memory problem of hers were to be solved soon, she should start trying to actually resolve it as soon as she was done with this little errand. Or rather, keeping company to Leona who was actually the one doing the job. Really, the goddess here was just to tag along and talk a bit, not much more. It has been a while since she had done something like that… calmed down for a moment in this hectic and quickly moving world.

Thankfully such moments of uncertainty and confusion did not prevent her from chuckling, even laughing out loud a bit as she listened more to her new guild master and to how she came about with this magic. They were in a world where feats of magic were commonplace, something that often leads to some form of disillusionment. Because even then, there were clearly some places in this world that were more magical than others. In this case the Serene Cliffs. Looking at Leona with a wide smile, Leila could not help herself but feel a bit embarrassed as she remembered her own summoning training.

I don’t know whether to see that as a coincidence or something of greater power, but Serene Cliffs is also where I was able to manifest my first celestial key for summoning.” Her celestial magic worked a bit different than the one you could see out in the world. Due to the nature of Leila’s very existence, she was part of the Gardens of Eden. A paradise-like world that was home to more than just her. Many different spirits existed there as well, originally created by Aurora, Leila’s past self that now existed as her own entity.

Because of that, the keys to summon the spirits of Eden were manifested by Leila when she was ready for them, rather than found in the world. So the fact that both of the girls were able to learn their summoning magic in the same place was truly amusing to the goddess. Perhaps there really was something about it. Maybe even the person they were delivering things to could give them some insight once they would arrive. It was not very likely, but Leila always enjoyed thinking about all the possibilities and theories of the world around her.

I should also say that while it is good to always try to improve, you do not need to feel like you are required to have the power to protect the guild alone. There are many people who stand behind you and Silver Wolf. And relying on others is not as bad as many would have you believe.” She had learned that during her time as a mage many times. Sometimes there were obstacles simply far too large for one single person to overcome them without any help. And there was no shame in asking for that help.

When the harpies were summoned, the girl was quite surprised. It was often unusual to see this many spirits in one place, especially brought forth by a single summoner. She was also able to provide any and all aerial escort services required with her powers pretty much fully back. But alas, she once again bowed to greet the harpies. Though the mention of the potential romantic relationship being present made her avert her eyes in a brief moment of embarrassment. “Greetings, it is quite a pleasure to meet more of the spirits that are bonded to Leona.

Though the introduction was quite brief, Leona wanted to take off as soon as possible, or so it seemed. Seating herself on the back of the lion, Leila had no problem with this. In fact, she decided to give a little help as soon as they lifted into the sky. Aiming her open palm toward the storm right in front of them, her guild mark started shining as a sudden tear opened up. As if something invisible forced a tunnel open in the barrier, the lion now could easily fly off the Silver Wolf’s territory without having to experience the cold blizzard.

Naturally, the barrier had closed up right behind them again, ensuring that the guild remained fully protected. An aspect of a story that the girl was about to tell now that they had plenty of time to spend doing anything at all until they would arrive at their destination. Frankly, it was a story that not many mortals knew. Not even because Leila would be unwilling to tell it, but rather that no one ever seemed to care enough to listen. After all, she was just another lonesome girl wandering Earthland. There were many mages with far more interesting stories than her.

    - Story of Phoenixes & Wolves -

Still, she wanted Leona to know, as it seemed fitting for her current position of the guild master, especially if she had no interest in giving it up any time soon. “You see, there was once a young girl who really wanted to become a mage. Her father didn’t want her to become one, as it was a dangerous job that could get her killed at any moment. But the girl insisted and even ran away from her father to join a magical guild. Or so she thought.

It was actually far more difficult for her than she had originally anticipated, for there were many who wanted to take advantage of her or bind her to a single place. She did not want this, as she had always loved exploring the world and its wonders. So she remained guildless, despite still pursuing the career of a mage. However, she had met a very special person one day, when exploring an island that not many seemed to visit. A man surrounded by phoenixes, majestic flaming birds that guarded the island. And he gave her an offer.

It was an offer to join his guild, the very thing that those creatures were protecting on the island. And this guild was different. He promised the girl that he would not restrict her in any way. He promised a sense of family and ritches to gain. And so the girl had join the guild. She became a proud member of Golden Phoenix. But alas, the happiness that the guild gave her could not last forever. One day, the guild master disappeared and the role fell on his right hand. But she was inexperienced.

She had left the guild completely defensless and this proved fatal. A dark guild named Savage Skulls had attacked and destoyed Golden Phoenix. Most people had fled, the guild master included. She was not interested in protecting the guild and joined up with a different one, where she was granted protection and a position of an Ace. The girl returned from her journey only to see the ruins of her destoryed guild. Broken by the discovery, she had disappeared for many months. But when she returned, she was a bit different. More mature, more determined and willing to help others.

She had also returned with a plan. A plan to form her very own guild that would follow in some of the ideals of Golden Phoenix. And so was born a guild named Silver Wolf with the now unbroken girl at the top. Alas, she too had failed, much like her previous guild master. However, this time, the role fell into more reliable hands and the guild continued to prosper. Even today, it stands tall and proud, I’d like to say.” The goddess was smiling Throughout the whole story. Of course, it was a bit childish to talk about herself in a third person.

But it might have been better for Leona to understand it that way.

"So you discovered your summoning magic at Serene Cliff too, huh?" Leona asked Leila. The blonde found it funny that two mages in the same guild found their summoning magic in the same location. Leila mentioned something about a "Celestial Key" being the source of her summon. Leona had heard stories about them before from Mustapha back in Nebdoui; the story was that there were only twelve of them in the entire world and that their rarity and power made them status symbols as well as practical tools.

"I've heard of the Celestial Keys. I heard a story about them when I was a child. I heard that only twelve of them existed and that a Celestial Key summon was far stronger than ordinary summons." Leona shared what little she knew about the keys with Leila. It was either coincidence or fate that Leona was working alongside one of the bearers of a Celestial Key. Not just any mage could hope to find one, let alone possess it for any appreciable length of time. The blonde surmised that an item of such power would be coveted by mages and that some of the more unscrupulous mages would stop at nothing to claim a Celestial Key for themselves. However, Leila was no ordinary mage and her power was a lot stronger than that of the average mage... whoever wanted to kill the silver-haired mage to get her Celestial Key would be in for the fight of their lives.

Leila was nowhere near as aggressive as Leona, but the latter got the feeling that if someone crossed the silver-haired mage it would be the last time they made that mistake. Leona had no idea what Leila's magic was centered around and part of her did not want to find out. Her thoughts turned to what her companion said about not needing to protect the guild by herself.

"You're right, Leila. I don't have to feel like I have to protect the guild alone. That's why Poko agreed to the alliance in the first place. It sounds selfish, but your return makes things a lot easier because no mage in their right mind would want to face you. You're one of the strongest mages in the world." Leona said to Leila. So far a lone Samira Nassar or the combined might of Fairy Tail and West Fiore Trading Company had the power to be serious threats. Leona had heard that the Rune Knights had gotten a couple of powerful new members who could threaten even Samira, but it would take both of them to even stand a chance against Samira. That kind of news made the blonde even more determined to get stronger. As the Guild Master, it was her responsibility to deter potential aggressors with sheer magical might first and aggressive action last.

"The alliance has been good to us, Leila. They're protected us and given us valuable opportunities. We're still the new kids on the block, but no one's made a move against us yet thanks to Fairy Tail and West Fiore Trading Company." Leona praised the Silver Moon Faeries alliance in Leila's presence. The alliance's strongest mages included three Gods of Ishgar and two Wizard Saints, so very few people willingly wanted to make enemies of them. Leona was working to catch up to Johann, Ruvel, Sorano, Nessa, and Mura so that she could stand among them as an equal in terms of power.

Leona listened as Leila told a story that very few others were ever privileged to hear. It involved a girl who wanted to be a mage and her insatiable wanderlust ever preventing her from finding a permanent home until one day she happened to encounter a man on a secluded island who offered the girl a place in his guild. The girl accepted the offer and joined the guild known as Golden Phoenix. For a time she was happy, but one day the Guild Master disappeared and it fell to the Ace to defend the guild from a Dark Guild known as Savage Skull.

However, the Ace did not accept the responsibility and fled the guild hall along with many of Golden Phoenix's members. Instead the Ace cast their lot with another guild and was granted protection and an Ace title in the new guild. The girl returned only to find the Golden Phoenix guild hall in ruins and was heartbroken, but her newfound resolve to help others helped the girl move on and soon come up with a plan. She would make her own guild that would ensure that Golden Phoenix's ideals lived on; thus Silver Wolf came into being.

The girl had once been Guild Master of Silver Wolf but had somehow failed in that duty. Now the guild was in newer, more capable hands... or so the story went. Even someone as plain as Leona slowly figured out that the "girl" in the story was Leila herself.

"I hope that the girl's happy with the current state of affairs. The new Guild Master is doing their best to continue the guild's prosperity." Leona assured Leila as the pair flew to their destination. The blonde had become invested in Silver Wolf's success and would work to make sure that it continued to prosper. Hopefully Leila would stay with the guild so that she could help Leona keep it going well into the future.

    Leila Vergious

Leona had the right idea, but she was a little bit off on her terminology. Leila could not blame her for this, as if she was not a celestial mage herself, then she would probably see all the different keys as the same herself. So she would smile and look around them as they flew over the beautiful scenery. “Indeed. However, those are Golden Zodiac Keys. They are a special variant that allows the mage to forge a bond with a being that represents one of the most famous constellations up above. Celestial keys by themselves are usually silver in color and fairly common, all things considered.

Though once again, Leila’s keys were a bit special. Aside from the one golden Zodiac Key, she was the owner of, the rest of her keys were wooden ones, created from the unbending wood of the Guardian Tree from her Gardens of Eden. “The Golden Zodiac Keys are also special in more ways than just one. As if the spirits summoned by them could affect them from their celestial world, they ensure that these keys fall only into the hands of those who can actually use them. This is why you don’t see them locked up in some museum or something.

Because it appeared to be simply impossible. If one attempted to do such a thing, they would be deemed unworthy by the key’s spirit and the key itself would soon disappear, only to reappear in the hands of someone actually capable of taking care of it. And speaking about taking care of things, the topic quickly shifted to the Alliance forged between the three guilds. Leila was still wrapping her head around it and there were some things that didn’t quite add up completely. But she was not in the lead of Silver Wolf so it was not like she had any word in it all.

It forced Leila into deep thought for a few seconds, almost completely missing the remark that she was one of the strongest mages in the world. To that, she would shake her head. “There are plenty of beings far stronger than me. Though I think I have a certain power over most. Regardless of that, I will be here to help. Even if it is because I have a hard time letting go of who I was when I created the guild itself.

There were certain rules that governed the universe. And one of them was that no matter how strong one could get, there would always be someone better, no matter what. It sounded like a paradox, for surely there would have to be someone at the top. Many would mention Samira Nassar. But even that girl was but an insect in the face of certain beings out there. Things that humans could not even comprehend or dream of. Such was the nature of being, of existence. Scary in its own right, but also begging for adventures to discover it all.

The girl could never be bound. She had gained everything she could ever want and then had lost it all. Many of the things she had lost were lost for good, never to be obtained again. It is a shame, but that is how the world is. Even a guild cannot bind her to one place. She will continue exploring the world and beyond, just like she did before finding Golden Phoenix.” That was her plan. She was no longer the guild master, which made her disappointed and even bitter at times. But it also made her all the freer, like she used to be. It was… strange…

"So the super-special ones are Golden Celestial Keys? OK." Leona said to Leila, the former's limited understanding of how the special keys worked slightly expanded. She was interested to hear that the Golden Celestial Keys had spirits of their own that could ensure that they managed to find their way to someone who could use them. Leona had never heard of any other object with that degree of power or influence over mortal affairs. Well, there was that necromancer book that was discovered in the Haunted Guild, but it was safely in the hands of the Order of Lightbringers... or so she was led to believe.

"Even if you're not the strongest mage in Earthland, we'll need your help, Leila. The Alliance has been helping us a lot, but they reasonably can't be expected to drop everything they're doing at a moment's notice to help us. Right now our location's a pretty good security measure, as are the spirit wolves. Not everyone wants to tromp through snowy wilderness just to meet the wolves. They'd want to meet you even less." Leona expressed appreciation for the silver-haired mage's presence. While it was still awkward to be higher in rank than the guild's founder, Leona would need Leila's help to keep the guild safe. Not too many people would want to fight a former Wizard Saint and one of the more powerful mages in existence. That would go double on the guild's home turf, which was inhospitable to most intruders and would buy Silver Wolf's mages time to get ready to repel an attack. If by some luck the invaders got past the terrain, the wolves, and Leila, they would be facing Leona herself.

Leona was trying to get strong enough to the point her very presence in the guild hall would be a sufficient deterrent against those who would threaten the guild, but she still had a ways to go before her power could command that kind of respect. The new Gods of Ishgar and the new Wizard Saints were growing in power with each passing week and most of them were key players in the Silver Moon Faeries Alliance. It seemed like she would always be playing catch-up with them, but she would do her best to keep up. The Silver Wolf Guild Master was going to put a lot of effort into getting stronger so that she could stay on par with them for as long as she could.

"So the girl's still a traveler at heart, huh? I'm kinda the same way. I should be staying in the Guild Master's office doing paperwork, but Silver Wolf needs every mage to keep the guild in the public eye. Who better to do that than the Guild Master herself?" Leona asked. She had leapt into the public eye after becoming a Rising Star, then was raised further in the public eye after winning the Fairy Festival Duel. She was doing her best to show that Silver Wolf would not be a flash in the pan, but rather that Silver Wolf would be here to stay. As long as she kept running high-risk and high-profile jobs, Silver Wolf's reputation would continue to grow.

They were still flying through the air and the Winged Lion's power to keep Leona's fear of heights at bay was still working. The harpies were still flying as an escort and no one had attempted to attack them. Leona was fine with that. It was nice to have a conversation with Leila without something trying to attack them.
