It was strange that she felt so weird without access to her magic. Serilda hadn’t even discovered her aptitude for Voidwalking little more than a year ago, having spent the majority of her life like any other regular human being -- or at least, as normal a life as a noble born woman could expect to live. The moment she had stepped foot in the Neutral Grounds, she could feel her access to her magic become muted and muffled. It was a bit disorienting, all things considered, but she wasn’t going to be here long anyway.

The only reason she’d come here in the first place was at Mythal’s suggestion. He had shown her the device he’d gotten his hands on known as an iLac, which was a device that functioned similar to lacrimavisions but they were portable sized and allowed access to databases of information as well as the ability to call or message people from great distances. It seemed a useful thing to have, particularly since they weren’t members of the same guild and lived several cities apart. Most of their current communication was through guild letters and summons or requests through the magic council. With these devices, though, they could just reach one another directly, instantly, without the middleman.

He’d told her that for a short period of time, the company that had created and produced these items were giving them away for free. Seemed a strange business strategy until she did more research. It seemed the bigger payout for the company was not in the items themselves but the plans customers would pay for to have access to various levels of amenities with them. That sounded fair enough to her, and it wasn’t like she couldn’t afford to own such a product, so off she went.

The store was packed when she got there, and Serilda had to put her name in a queue to wait her turn to be seen. In the meantime, though, she was allowed to look around at the different varieties offered and start to form an opinion on what she thought she might like. There were a couple different sizes, though none of them were so big that they wouldn’t fit in a pocket easily. There were also some that seemed to have bigger storage units in them for things like pictures, applications, and so forth. Most came in several color options, and supposedly she could customize the different sounds they could make when receiving calls or text messages.

She waited about thirty minutes or so before her name was called, and a friendly but high paced man came to greet her. He answered her few questions and helped her narrow down which device might work best for her based on her line of work and the many possible applications and softwares the different iLacs had available. Ultimately, she selected a higher tiered iLac that had the best quality camera and lots of storage space. It was roughly the size of her hand, and the exterior shell on it was a pearly white color with a shiny gold trim.

Satisfied with the item, Serilda thanked the attendant for his assistance and made her way back to the train station, toying with the device and setting it up to her tastes.
