Re: Red Sand Bandits
-Village of Nebdoui, Desierto-
Leona was in Nebdoui, using it as a home base for her latest adventure after the successful mission in Shirotsume. Mr. Burke's book had been returned to him and he had promised her a piece of armor made by the best blacksmith in Shirotsume. She would have to wait a few days for it to be completed. In the meantime, the Blue Sky Clan of Desierto had requested help from any mage willing to help. Leona jumped at the opportunity because completing the job meant that she might be able to earn a new ally for Nebdoui.
Leona was in her family's tent getting dressed. She was putting on her green-and-gold outfit because it looked a little more "official" and more appropriate for a Guild Master. However, she brought along more practical clothing in case her original outfit sustained damage during the course of the job. She had just put it on and was putting on the matching boots when Chief Elijah himself entered the tent.
"The chieftain of the Blue Sky Clan is here, Leona. He wants to speak with you in my tent." The chief informed her. Leona had finished putting on the boots and was putting on her backpack and Argent Gloves. She was just about ready.
"On the way, Chief." Leona said to him. He nodded and departed to his tent. Leona finished slipping on the backpack and put on the Argent Gloves. She attached the Nightshade Machete to her waist and was ready. She briskly walked to the chief's tent and was greeted by a muscular older man of medium height wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with brown pants. On his head was a blue headband.
"I'm Chieftain Rashid of the Blue Sky Clan. I've heard much about your adventures, Leona. I've heard about your brave fight against the Crimson Sashes and the region's many slavers. That's why I need your help." He said to her in all seriousness.
"What happened?" Leona asked him.
"Me and some of my best warriors were away from our home village dealing with another desert clan that was rebelling against us. While we were away, a group of raiders slaughtered half our village and carried the other half away into captivity. We only know this because they left a calling card in the middle of the ashes, a simple red flag on a pole." The worried chieftain explained. Leona had been around for the bad old days of raider and slaver attacks on Nebdoui. She was not going to stand by and let them terrorize desert villages with impunity.
"I'll help. Tell me what I need to do." Leona replied.
"You need to rescue the surviving villagers, who are being held in the Red Sand Bandits camp. My scouts have discovered its location and will take you there, but we can't spare any men to help with the attack. We're afraid that the Red Sand Bandits would take advantage of our absence to finish what they started and wipe us out completely." Chieftain Rashid briefed her.
"I'd prefer if you bring their chief back to me alive to face justice, but if you can't take him alive, I'll understand." He added. Leona had her marching orders. It was time to get going.
"As for the rest of the bandits, I don't care what happens to them. Just bring my people back alive." He added further. Leona turned to walk away when he spoke again.
"We've been fighting the Red Sand Bandits for over one hundred years. I hope that today will be the end of it. With your help, I may get my wish." He said wearily. Leona walked out of the tent and over to a group of twenty waiting horsemen holding blue reins. One of them motioned for her to get onto his horse. She complied and the group was off to the bandit camp.

Re: Red Sand Bandits
-Red Sand Bandits camp-
Leona entered the outskirts of the bandit camp, which was a lot like the Crimson Sashes camp in that it was a gathering of tents in front of an adobe building. The scouts stayed back to help the hostages once Leona freed them. She would be going in alone. Well, not totally alone. She would call upon her summons if things got dicey.
She did not have the luxury of waiting for nightfall like in the Crimson Sashes camp. She had to make a daylight assault because time was of the essence. There were sentries everywhere and a stealthy approach would take time the blonde might not have. She would just have to hope for the best.
Leona walked into the camp and was immediately confronted by five thugs wielding scimitars. She drew her Nightshade Machete and waited for them to attack. Two of them obliged, leaping at her with swords coming down in a two-handed swing. Leona simply hit them with a Wind Blast and knocked them out of the air. She then used a Wind Blast on the three who hung back.
The blonde rushed in and knocked all five of them out with punches to the face before they could pick up their weapons. She had to hurry because a firing line of five bandits with magic rifles and pistols formed up just in front of her. They were onto her now, so she had better be quick.
They fired a volley of magic weapons fire that pinged off her gloves and pierced her sleeves. As the blonde rushed them more rounds whistled by her. She saw the glint of scopes... there were five more on the roof of the adobe building!
"O fabled harpies, O sisters three! Lend your strength unto me!" Leona thought as she leaped into the middle of the gunmen and started swinging her machete. She cut one gunman across the chest and was punched in the face by another. Leona stabbed him in the chest and then turned and hit another in the face with a Mach Straight, knocking him into a colleague who accidentally shot through his back and just missed her head with the errant round.
"Go after the snipers on the roof of that building!" Leona telepathically instructed her harpies. The trio immediately took flight and went after the bandits on the roof, leaving her to deal with the remaining three gunmen. She knocked out one with a flurry of punches to the face, then turned around and stabbed one through the chest as he leveled his pistol at her head. One more was left.
"DIE!" He shouted as he fired his semi-automatic rifle from the hip seven times. Each shot missed Leona by a considerable margin. She used a Gale Cannon to the head to knock him out before he got lucky and hit her in a vital spot. Leona watched as the gunmen on the roof flailed wildly and fired at the harpies, who were giving them a lot of grief, three even jumping off the roof to get away from their attackers. She pressed forward and ran into another five bandits with scimitars.
"This is as far as you go, girlie!" One of them taunted while twirling his scimitar in his hand. The others echoed their agreement. Leona did not have time for games. She used a Wind Blast to knock them all over and ran over to knock them out with swift kicks to the head. Once they were taken care of, she eyed the adobe building.
Leona rushed towards it and hoped that she would be in time to recover live villagers instead of corpses.

Re: Red Sand Bandits
Leona had rushed through the tent city and was approaching the gates of the adobe building when a burly pair of bandits began throwing knives at her. Leona blocked them with her Argent Gloves and closed in. The pair drew scimitars that were as long as she was tall and rushed at her. Leona cut one across the stomach and he jumped back while his companion jumped forward and swung his massive sword in a downward one-handed chop.
Leona jumped back and threw a Fast Ball. He laughed it off and strode towards her, grabbing her by the arm. He lifted her up and punched her in the stomach, then punched her again while his friend held his scimitar with two hands. He drew it back in preparation to kill the interloper, but her harpies came to her rescue. The sword-wielding man yelled in agony as he was clawed across the face by Daphne's talons.
"Like, let her go!" She shouted.
Leona was soon freed when Sylvia gashed her captor across the face with her talons. The blonde took advantage of the distraction to slash the first tall man across the stomach until he collapsed, then attacked the second in a similar fashion. He too collapsed and left the way open for the blonde to enter the adobe building. Leona had just opened the door when gunshots pinged off the building's doorframe. There were more gunmen!
"Go! We'll handle them!" Sylvia shouted. Leona nodded and shut the door as a bullet ricocheted off the thick metal door.
-Inside the adobe building-
Leona found herself face-to-face with five bandits standing guard in the jail, which was a single-story structure that was essentially one large jail block. They noticed the interloper and drew their swords. They were ready for a fight, but so was Leona.
"We don't know how you got in here, but you're not leaving alive!" One of them threatened. Leona scoffed. She had heard that one before and no one could back up such a bold threat. It was time to teach another overconfident bandit the error of their ways.
Leona used a Wind Blast that knocked them against the bars, then began fighting them one-on-one. Leona hit them each in the face with a Mach Straight, knocking them out until two remained. She waited until they attacked and hit them with another Wind Blast, knocking them to the floor. The last two were swiftly knocked out with kicks to the face. Once all five guards were down, she began to search them for the keys to the cells.
"Not so fast!" A gruff male voice warned her. Leona turned to face the owner of the voice. He was a man in crimson leather armor with a tan desert cloak. On his shoulder was perched a large hawk. The man looked Leona over with a critical eye.
"That foolish chieftain has to recruit others to fight his battles for him. He can't even be bothered to rescue his own people. I was looking forward to finishing what I started on his village. Those people in the cells? They're the last of the villagers... once I deal with you, they'll die next." The man informed her.
"You can try." Leona retorted. The man laughed and drew his scimitar. His hawk took flight. This was the main event. There was no point in holding back any longer.

Re: Red Sand Bandits
Leona rushed to attack the man. His hawk grabbed her by the arm and began dragging her towards the door. Leona was kicked in the stomach by the man, who opened the door and threw her outside. Now the hawk had room to fly and make her life miserable.
Leona jumped up and grabbed the man's booted foot as he tried to pin her to the sand, then pulled her knife and stabbed him in the foot. He yelled and kicked her with his other foot. Leona rolled away and hit him with a Gale Cannon which knocked him against the closed metal door. Leona grabbed her machete and swung down when the hawk dove down and grabbed her weapon hand.
She dropped the machete and cast a Wind Blast that buffeted the large bird. Leona felt a gash on her back, then her vision went blurry. The leader had cut her with his scimitar!
"You're gonna be dead soon!" He taunted her. Leona sighed. First the ninjas. Now this guy. She would kick his ass and drag him back to Chieftain Rashid if it killed her.
Leona spun to face him and grabbed his sword arm. He kicked her in the shin and she nailed him in the face with a Mach Straight using her left hand. He staggered back, then rushed forward and punched her in the chest, knocking her to the sand.
He began stabbing the sand with his scimitar. Leona began rolling for safety as he chased her down. She eventually stood up and faced him. The hawk dove at her, but her harpies intervened and began attacking the bird.
"What? HOW?!" The leader asked.
"You're not the only one with feathered friends." Leona snarked. She took advantage of the gap to hit him with a Gale Cannon to the chest. Moments later the bloodied hawk dropped to the ground with a shrill cry. The leader looked infuriated.
"I raised him from a hatchling. You'll pay for killing my pet. I'LL CUT YOU OPEN! I'LL MOUNT YOUR HEAD ON A STAKE!" He bellowed. He kept his mouth open and emitted an ear-piercing shriek that made visible ripples in the air and made Leona's vision swim even more when the noise reached her ears. She dropped to her knees and threw up twice.
The harpies dove on the man, harassing him from multiple angles. Leona struggled to get to her feet as the man swung at the harpy sisters. In between the poison and the sound attack, the blonde was in a bad place. She recovered enough to walk up to him and hit him in the face with a Mach Straight, making him drop his scimitar as he staggered backwards. The man suddenly began to show pain... in between the harpies and Leona's attacks, he was on the back foot.
"Damn you!" He cursed. He drew a dagger from his belt and rushed at her. Leona's vision wobbled as he closed in. She could see two images of his swings, which then multiplied into four images of the man attacking her. Leona blocked a swing with her left Argent Glove and hit back with a Mach Straight from her right glove.
He fell to the sand, dropping his weapon. Leona dropped to her knees. Her vision was distorted, which made her even more disoriented. The man got up and grabbed his scimitar. Leona ordered the harpies to make one more attack.
"TRIPLE THREAT!" Leona called out. The harpies formed up and fired the triangular projectile, which hit the bandit leader in the chest and knocked him down. Leona staggered up and kicked the man in the face as he struggled to get up. The fight was over.
Leona walked into the jail, grabbed the door to the cell, and ripped it off the hinges with a powerful tug. The grateful people rushed out of the crowded cell and hastened for the door.
"I've been poisoned. We need to get out of here fast." Leona said to them. She staggered over to the door and leaned on the doorframe with one arm outstretched. How was she going to get them by the remaining bandits? That did not matter. She opened the door and prepared to face down more enemies but instead faced the leader of the Blue Sky Clan scouts and his men.
"The hostages are inside. They're OK. I've been poisoned." Leona gasped before falling face-first onto the sand and blacking out.

Re: Red Sand Bandits
-Eight hours later, Nebdoui-
Leona slowly woke up on a cot inside a tent. Her outfit top was missing and she was covered with a thin tan blanket. Her machete and knife were lying next to her. On a nearby table was her backpack and Argent Gloves. Her mother, Chief Elijah, and Chieftain Rashid were standing nearby.
"Leona! You're alive!" Sophia called out.
"Are the hostages OK?" Leona asked while sitting up.
"They're all safe, thanks to your efforts. They're in Nebdoui. Your chief has generously allowed us to spend the night under his protection." Chief Rashid assured her.
"And the Red Sands Bandits leader?" Leona asked.
"He was still alive. We've got him. Thanks to you, he'll be taken to the Tri-Council city and face justice for his crimes." Rashid said to her. Leona was relieved.
"I'm just glad the hostages were OK. The leader threatened to kill them once he was through with me. I'm glad he didn't get the chance to act on the threat." Leona said to the chieftain.
"You're everything we hoped for, Leona. Thanks to you, the war's over. The sultan's army will hunt down the remnants of the Red Sand Bandits. Without a leader to hold them together, they won't last long. Now we can rebuild in peace." He said to her.
"The chieftain wants to give you a special honor." Chief Elijah chimed in. The Blue Sky Clan chieftain faced her with a smile.
"As thanks for your efforts, I'm making you an honorary member of the Blue Sky Clan, Leona Jarnefeldt. You'll always be welcome in our lands. You'll always be a hero to our people." Rashid said to her.
"Thank you, Chieftain." Leona said appreciatively. The man nodded.
"You risked everything to save the hostages. They're all safe. I'm proud of you, Leona." Sophia said before hugging Leona. The blonde returned the hug. She had dealt the criminals of Desierto another setback and rescued innocent people from certain death. Tomorrow morning she would return to Silver Wolf Guild Hall and see who else needed her help. For tonight she would stay in Nebdoui and rejoice over another job successfully completed.
