..to control the storm I must..

    a tempest's tale: unexalted fear
    MASTERY
"Control thy emotions to control thy strength!"
Dust whistled along an open road. Villages that surrounded the infamous Mt. Hakobe were known for their frost-covered caps and agriculturally barren landscapes but this particular settlement looked like it'd popped right out the wild west. A tumbleweed bumped past a white-haired individual's feet as his footprints marked the very first sign of life or so it seemed.

Amagiri's presence seemed to mark the end of an area of desolation. His white cloak fluttered in the wind and the hood that covered his head and facial features threatened to blow from the tip of his scalp. The breeze was harsh but undeniably warm. Strange for a location that was overshadowed by a mountain that boasted it's snowy peak. Amagiri's blue jeans tightened around his legs as he took another step.

"You know, little one. I'm just as surprised as you are. This used to be the village of Valentine. A thriving settlement of commerce. People thrived here, profiteering left and right. Now it's bowed, bent, broken. I wonder where they went.." the demonic voice chuckled to itself. There was a tinge of sarcasm in his tone and it was evidential he knew more than he was letting on. Amagiri tried to banish the thought as he continued to walk but the crescendo of silence only fuelled his inquisitive nature.

"We were called here on a plea for help. Who called if they're all dead?"

The voice within him chuckled again. A darkened tone filled with malice.

    "Or are they?"

A cowering silhouette flickered just inside Amagiri's view. The young mage spun around, his finger lifted towards the obscenity but nothingness had materialized in it's place.

Another shadow, this time staying in place for longer flickered in and out of Amagiri's view. The thing was becoming more daring, confident in it's ability to evade the wizard's field of vision.

"Who's there?" Amagiri loudly exclaimed to whoever it might be. "I'm not here to hurt you, I'm here to help."

The creature chuckled in response. It didn't sound human. It's tone was raspy, curdled and acidic. It's intentions weren't good, Amagiri could conceptualize that much. Identifying the creature however, given the speed at which it could move, would be a much harder task. With the silhouette's motives clear, Amagiri remained silent and hunched his back closer to the ground. Adopting his combative stance he began to think to himself.

Wasn't Rin meant to be here? I could really use a partner right now.

The young mage wasn't a great believer in the idea of jinxes. The notion that one could seal one's fate just by assuming the worst. This could have been one of those times to convince him otherwise. As soon as he'd spoken about the possibility of backup; another two silhouettes cleared his view. They moved swiftly and silently, once again evading identification through their speedy concealment. More raspy tones began to chuckle. They toyed with Amagiri as if they were eyeing up their prey.

    "Show yourselves, cowards!" Amagiri exclaimed.

The words had barely left his lips when one of the silhouettes leaped from the shadows, a blade raised and aimed at the white hair that gracefully dangled down Amagiri's figure. A killing blow that Amagiri was slow to react to. Was his fate sealed?

    RISE
"Something like this won't get me down. I've still got spirit to spare!"

Rays of sunlight beamed down on Yuu as he trekked along the dirt path before him. Small high-pitched shrieks echoed from the shrubbery as cicadas called out to their brethren. The white-peaked Mt. Hakobe in the distance got marginally closer as the mage reached the top of the hill overlooking Valentine. Every structure in the town was made of the same wooden 2x4s that gave it that old frontier feel.

“This seems like the place. I mean, It’s gotta be. There’s nothing else around for miles.”

Yuu scratched his head and pulled his red hood up further. Beginning the final steps of his journey, the tall grass crinkled beneath his feet as it unceremoniously parted before him. The town seemed almost desolate as he approached; seemingly abandoned, and not a soul in sight. That was until he noticed another man on the main street. Yuu’s face flashed a huge grin as he cupped his hands around his mouth and prepared to greet the stranger, but before he could he noticed the defensive stance that the man was in and the concerned expression on his face. Deciding to hold off for the moment, the mage hid behind a small shed in front of him. That was when he heard it; the sound of several muffled laughs and hungry groans. It was a tambour that he knew all too well.

“Damn goblins. Didn’t think I’d be seeing them this soon.”

The mage leaned his back into the wooden surface as he listened intently at the creatures. He knew he shouldn’t reveal his presence too soon as goblins have a much better knack at evasion than he does. What was most likely only a few seconds felt like minutes as he waited. Like a pin dropping, one of the beasts could be heard leaping out from its hiding spot towards the stranger. Yuu instantly rounded the corner with his fist glowing an ethereal white, his scowl quickly morphing into a wide eyed smirk.

    “Take this you ugly bastard!”

He caught the goblin mid air as it was preparing to rip its blade into the man before him. The magic energy in his palm launched it across the town and through a seemingly brittle wall. Taking a step back and lining himself up to watch the other man’s six, he raised his fists in a boxing stance and eyed him with the smirk never having left his face.

“Hey! Name’s Yuu Blitzkrieg. Good to see a friendly face around.”

Post by Eden Knox 14th November 2018, 1:18 am

"Ah! Thank you very much, miss!" The pink haired mage bubbled gleefully as she reached forwards, accepting the yummy looking croissant the young saleswoman offered her. Sure, the little towns surrounding the Mt. Hakobe Settlements were quite cold and slightly dreary, but the bakeries that were littered throughout them were phenomenal! Tiny crumbs flittered downwards as she took her first bite of the flaky pastry. "It's absolutely delicious!" Rin cried, a goofy smile plastering itself across her face. The woman giggled in response, waving her hand almost dismissively. "You always say the nicest things, Miss Mayou! This one is on the house, I insist!" Rose tinted hues widened in disbelief. There was no way she could accept this! "No, no! I couldn't!" Pausing for a moment, Rin shoved the croissant in her mouth before turning slightly to rummage through the bag that hung loosely from her shoulder. Retrieving her wallet, she handed over the payment, much to the townswoman's dismay. "Here's the money for the croissant, and a little extra to keep this lovely little bakery up and running! Gotta go now, byeeeee!" And off she went, towards the Mt. Hakobe Settlements in the blink of an eye.

Now, Rin wasn't just here for the food, though she truly wished she could have been. No, unfortunately she was here on business. Her mentee and trusted ace, Amagiri, had called for her to meet him in this village. Something about goblins. She had spaced out and missed a few of the details. The white haired man did tend to ramble, after all. How was she supposed to listen to every single thing without falling asleep halfway through?! Either way, it was about time to stop messing around and find the source of these grubby little beings he had mentioned. Perhaps they had a base set up just outside the town? Ooh, or perhaps they lived underground in an intricate system of tunnels! Now wouldn't that just be fascinating!

Her thoughts of goblin housing were interrupted though, when she heard a loud call coming from her left. Ugly bastard?! Either this person was speaking of the very goblins she was searching for, or he was just a total jerk! Well, there was only one way to find out! Keeping a tight grip on her tasty croissant, the young mage picked up speed, jogging in the direction of the crude insult. It would seem that her initial thought was correct! It was a goblin! Now she could spare herself the time of lecturing the man about proper manners! "Oh! Hey Amagiri! I made it just in time!~" Rin chuckled, raising the hand which held her pastry and waving vigorously. "Sorry it took me so long! I had to stop and get a little treat! There's way too much yummy food around here to pass up! It would be a crime!" She had just been about to offer her friend some of her food, when she noticed there was another person there. The poor young girl was quite slow. "Oh! A new face! Hello there! My name is Rin Mayou! I'm so sorry I didn't catch your name!" Bowing politely, Rin grinned. Perhaps it would have been a good idea to see whether or not he was a foe before jumping into such a friendly introduction, but it was a good day! It would be a shame to ruin it because of some petty argument!

"Want to try some of this?! It's sooooo good!" Stepping over the poor goblin's corpse, Rin jogged towards the stranger, reaching her hand outwards to offer him the pastry she held. Her attempt at kindness was swiftly interrupted, though. A goblin jumped out of a nearby bush, charging at her with a bloodcurdling screech and ruining what could have been a beautiful moment. "Ugh!" Rin grumbled, taking a quick step backwards to avoid the blow. "Stooooop! I could've dropped my croissant!" She cried, turning to glare at the ugly creature. That was it! Nothing was going to come between her and her tasty treat! Shoving the croissant in her mouth once more, she raised her now free hand into the air. "Reqwiff!" The word was almost inaudible, seeing as she was talking with her mouth full, but it worked just the same. With a flash of white light, a sleek, candy encrusted pistol dropped from the sky, landing neatly in the young mage's hand. "Awright you stoofid jewrk! Any lawst wowrds!?" The goblin stopped and stared for a moment, most likely annoyed by the muffled attempts at speech. But who could blame it?

Using this moment to her advantage, Rin sprung into action, clasping her weapon tightly with both hands and pulling the trigger. The candied bullet whizzed through the air in a flash, meeting it's target quickly and silently. A clean, uninterrupted head shot. Not bad for someone who was quite rusty with a gun! "Ha! Gotcha!" She celebrated, retrieving the food from her mouth and taking an actual bite out of it. Victory sure did taste sweet!

..to control the storm I must..

    Words: 850

    a tempest's tale: unexalted fear
    MASTERY
"Control thy emotions to control thy strength!"
    ...but the blade never came.

A flash of light and a reverberating sonic boom that shook Amagiri's bones right to their core. He began to turn but stopped himself as he felt the presence of another within the immediate vicinity. This figure stood on guard at his six providing an ideal situation to where an ambush like that would never happen again. The young, white-haired mage opened his mouth to greet the mage before hearing the sound of distant footsteps. A skip, a jovial walk, an unsuited noise to this scene of unfurling carnage.

"Who could be coming at a time like this?" Amagiri angled his head slightly to observe the goings on. What he saw next made his jaw slacken, a look of surprise coating his features so thick that the young wizard thought he'd never close his mouth again.

"Rin.. what's with the croissant? You're running a little late, you know?" he gestured to the goblin that had already made it's first mistake by attacking them. It's body lay crumpled in a nearby building surrounded by wooden debris such was the destructive force of the man whom had dealt it.

Amagiri brought a hand to his hood to reveal his face, opening his mouth to speak once more in order to reprimand Rin for her punctuality or lack thereof. It seemed he wouldn't be given the opportunity to do so as another goblin appeared in the fray, keen to avenge the defeat of his fallen friend. Little time came to pass before Rin weaved in and out of his grasp before delivering a culminating blow to the head; silencing the goblin once and for all.

White bangs hung loosely around Amagiri's gentle features as he shook his head vigorously. The muscles in his legs tightened as he stepped away from the group, turning on his axis to face them properly. Arms folded over his chest to emanate a more serious demeanor. He'd address Rin later, for now he wanted to question who exactly this stranger was.

    "Volkov. Amagiri Volkov."

The god-slayer nodded with a warm smile spreading on his features. He tilted his head slightly to undergo a brief moment of speculation as he continued to address the grey-haired mage infront of him. He had a strong-build and magical energy radiated off him in a similar manner to Amagiri's own. He was strong, that was clear enough, but his intentions were unclear. Was he here to help? Why was he here in the first place? Amagiri presumed the request for help was exclusive to Aurora alone.

"You're a mage, right? What brings you here?"

Amagiri unfolded his arms as the ground rumbled beneath his feet. Bewilderment replaced that slack-jawed look from earlier as he spun around to the direction of the oncoming ramble. They were a silhouette at first. A elongated stretch of black dots covered by the dust that their hording footsteps created. It didn't take them long to sprint into view though. Throngs of short, muscly, pointy-eared creatures charged forwards; looks of determination covered their faces. Each was equipped slightly differently. Hand-me-down pieces of armor and rough-looking blades, hammers, knives, sickles, guns. They were well-equipped, an army of sorts, but unorganized and unkempt.

"Guess you know why this place is abandoned now, huh?" the voice chuckled sinisterly within the confines of his consciousness. Malicious intentions coursed through his brain-waves as the feeling of impending conflict rose to a climax. It looked like this fight would be unavoidable.

"Guess we'll have to cut this reunion short for a moment." Amagiri looked back and smiled at them all before fading from view. A cloud covered his disappearance while thunder rumbled overhead. Rain began to pour into the vicinity as clouds began to darken. A miniature storm materialized into existence despite the savagely hot nature that the atmosphere provided. Black lightning bolts collided with the oncoming forces sending goblins sprawling into the air left and right; their bodies blackened due to the strength of such energies. Thunder roared ferociously causing some of the green beings to turn tail and run.

The white-haired one re-appeared atop of a building. His hand was raised to the air signifying his ability to manipulate the storm above. Some goblins noticed his presence and charged off to confront him, raising their hammers, knives and flails to attempt and inhibit their eventual destruction. The rest of them, however, continued forward; keen to avenge their fallen brothers whom had lost their lives to Yuu's fist and Rin's gun respectively.

    RISE
"Something like this won't get me down. I've still got spirit to spare!"

The dust in the air settled back down beneath everyone's feet as a second goblin met its untimely demise; this time at the hand of the third mage to arrive at the town. Her small stature and innocent mannerisms hid a powerful mage. That much was obvious from the magic prescence she exuded. Yuu's eyes widened as she effortlessly summoned a weapon and dispatched the creature. Completely forgetting the girl's initial introduction, he shouted out,

"Wow, that was incredible! It's been a long time since I've seen a powerful requip mage like you!"

Though, before Yuu could initiate any real conversation, his attention was caught by the white haired wizard he saved just moments before. He spun around to meet the voice head on. The man gave only his name with no other context. Though Yuu couldn't recall asking for a name just yet, he would accept it nonetheless. It seemed only right considering he had already given his own. Amagiri then proceeded to inquire as to why Yuu was spending time in an abandoned mountain town overrun with small demonic entities; an admittedly valid concern.

"Well, I was given a quest to take care of the local gob-"

But once again, his exchange was silenced when he sensed dozens of minuscule footsteps echoing around the group. Everyone seemed to tense up at that moment. Yuu knew he couldn't be outdone once he saw Amagiri switching positions to meet the incoming goblin horde. With a white aura encircling his fists, he madly charged into the group.

A goblin leaped from directly in front of him, the wild expression it carried showing that it had full confidence in itself. Yuu dug his heels into the mud and promptly dismissed this confidence with a magic empowered roundhouse kick to the creature's side. Instead of giving this one the easy way out and making him fly, he followed through with the beast remaining on his foot until it was stomped into the ground, leaving nothing but a bloody paste. Remembering why he took this job and finally enjoying himself, he flung himself at the rest of the horde yelling,

Come on! Who can give me a real challenge!?
