    Before we even begin working on this idea, we would like to share this with the rest of the memberbase. This is a relatively big change to everyone on the site. Especially regarding the fact that magic itself is based around stats.

    Magic has always been run by stats. For years it has been implemented into the system, changed repeatedly to make things better, etc. Though despite this, it is a headache for most of the members and the staff. For the past few years of me being on the site and watching as things are shifted around, I suggested making the system easier for everyone so it does not take weeks for applications to be approved.

    If the rest of the memberbase like this, we will be removing stats completely. You are given the creative freedom to write whatever you want about your magic. No distance, no speed, no percentages. The format for the current application will still be the same and we will be lowering the quantity for spells. It will always be minimum two per rank as to not overwhelm people.

    You will be able to keep any spells you bought, we are still keeping that system in place so don't worry about that! Let us know what you think! If you like the idea or you do not, we won't be making such a big change since it effects all of you. We value all of your opinions so please feel free to disagree or agree with the idea!

    Personally I am fed up with constant magic changes. We just had one and there's already another one in the works? It's not necessary to have this many changes back to back. I also just got done re-writing and getting my primary approved with my second one already done (just waiting until I can post it for approval) and my third on its way to being done.

    If stats are to be removed fine. They're mainly there for pvp which doesn't really happen anymore. However, I suggest keeping the work that has already been done to the rules in place. That means no lowering the amount of spells. It isn't overwhelming. A lot of people don't even use all the slots. As someone that does use all the slots I would be very unhappy at having to once again remove what I already had. I am attached to the spells in my primary and I would have to erase the work I already did with my other magics. Not to mention lowering the quantity of spells just takes away without giving and that is no fun.

    Lowering the amount of spells seems like a headache. "2 per rank" seems very restrictive, even as a bare minimum. In order to gain more spells people would pretty have to spend a bunch of jewels just to put them at a decent amount. But eh, whatever you guys want I guess

    I personally actually liked stats, but fine, if people get overwhelmed remove them. I guess it also helps staff get through grading faster.

    Hi there. I've been dead for a while but certain things made me want to come back for just a moment. In relation to the removal of stats, while I'm dubious of what could happen, I'd be willing to comply provided that like everyone else above me I'm able to keep my things the way they are, stats and all. Crunching the numbers had always been my favorite part of making anything and it made the stuff I own more "concrete". Removing them I feel would undo my efforts of carefully rendering and balancing said items, not to mention my endearment of using them -without these stats to tether the imagination I'd feel lost in vague descriptions whenever I try to job with someone and vice versa.

    If I'm allowed to make a suggestion, perhaps we could keep the stats at the behest of people able to willingly choose to ignore them, or better yet simply use them as their baseline - that way newer members are still able to grasp a degree of what is and what's not allowed as per magic is concerned. Oh, I'm not saying creative freedom is bad, but too much of it I think would only breed a resurgence of "toxicity" since people might come here and think they can do whatever they want, attracting those who're both intolerable and power-hungry.

    Sure the newer mods can iron out those stubborn protag-wannabees via grading, but because you can definitely say that stats are no longer a thing, there's bound to be someone crafty enough to tailor their items in a way that can be abused even if its deemed ok on initial grading. We've had those cases even with the stats - what more without?

    Also, keeping them would...for a lack of a better word, 'uphold the legacy' of those who worked hard on the stats. They are already as lenient as they are, and it'd be devastating to them and to those who've become accustomed to formatting their magic and stuff via that way to remove it altogether. But I understand the direction that you guys want to follow. It's not at all an injust one, though I feel this could be throught out more carefully. I know I haven't been roleplaying the last few weeks, thusly crippling my credibility (however you may judge me) and my opinion's weight, but I still plead to be heard on this matter, like everyone else.

    I was going to type a big giant post about this, but it seem Terith has done so already and in a way much more eloquent than I could possibly do. In short, I agree wholeheartedly with what he, and many of the above have already stated.

    As Samira said, I think that all these magic changes, one after another are more detrimental than anything. I have heard and seen many people losing muse, or frustrating over having just had their magic approved only to have to put it back up for edits again. Not only is this frustrating for members but the staff work amount would increase as well. So I am definitely in favor of keeping everything as unchanged as possible.

    Additionally, despite my complaints about them at times, I do very much enjoy the stat system. My views on this have been perfectly voiced by Terith and Rain already (thanks papi), so I'll refrain from rambling.

    I am torn on this. I too am sick to death of magic changes --and one of the initial draws to the site for me was an 'rpg' like game system. However now that I've been around, it has been my experience that basically no one uses the rules. Historically there also hasn't been any consistency in how the rules are applied to pre gen monsters like in the events.

    For example is "6 hits of user ranked damage to kill" Melee user rank or spell user rank. Is it my rank or my partner's since I am A and he is S?

    I guess from my perspective at the moment: there seems to be no need for such complex rules the way the site (was) being run and like Samira I believe said, or someone said; there is no pvp really. I guess maybe that should be a factor in the decision.

    I agree that so many magic changes happened so fast we need a breather. Long term though, I think that if things stay the way they have been, rules are unnecessary and the way we kept being required to re-app them was pretty pointless as it changed literally nothing in our day-to-day site RP.

    I feel like people are approaching this as a mandatory change rather than an optionally placed suggestion. This was by no means meant to be something implemented for us members to blindly obey. It's just a suggestion to make the process of creating a magic easier for both new and old members. If you want to keep your stats as a guideline to both you and the players you write with then you have every right to do so. They're just rendering stats to be an optional addition to the creation of your magic rather than having each spell refined in such a way that it can overwhelm some (obviously not all).

    If you want to have stats in your magic then you should have stats in your magic.

    I like having stats in my magic. Without stats and ranks, how is one to say their character has grown magic wise? The stats can be useful when it comes to plot and growth. Without them there is no defined way to say how your character has grown unless it's emotionally. I like working jobs and gaining experience. I love the idea of ones character discovering themselves through effort. I enjoy trying to help others get stronger as well, I feel it makes it easier for characters to bond. Why throw away so many lovely plot devices just because it takes work? Creating a character I feel should take effort too, and while its fun.. I feel developing your character and playing them with others also takes work, it's just more fun.

    Since most of what I already want to say has been gone over with a fine tooth comb by these other fine members, I'll try to refrain from rambling and going on about things they've already touched upon several times.
    1) While this is only a suggestion for change, I'd like to point out again that constant magic changes kill muse. Preferably, in the future should you decide to make more magic changes, refrain from making a ton of changes every 2-3 months and try to keep it to major changes every 5-6 months. That gives members time to breathe a bit while also perhaps letting them give the staff an idea of things they might want kept or changed
    2) Stats provide a good way to balance spells and items and such. If you get rid of it to reduce headaches, the best idea would be to replace it with a simpler system that keeps balance. Otherwise, as pointed out by Terith, the system can be easily abused. Maybe instead of doing away with stats, crunch them. Reduce the amount of stats required to look at, or find things that have stats that might not need them.
    3) There is nothing in the rules saying you have to use all your spell slots. I would like the amount of spells slots to be left as is rather than restricted to 2 per rank. 2 per rank seems like it would stifle creativity more than anything especially given that a new player would only have 2 spells that way. Samira put it quite nicely as its more taking away without giving anything.

    I support the removal of stats, that's fine, like most say they're only used in PVP, but not lowering the spell limits. As some of us have spells that influence the magic as a whole

    Just posting again to point out how I'm fairly sure some people are missing the whole "minimum two spells per rank" thing.  From my understanding, it's supposed to mean that you could make more, but you would only need two in order for it to be approved ^-^

    I admit I misread it when making my initial reply, and there's a reason for that. It's already like that now. You could have a minimum of 1 the way things are now. Making all your spell slots are not mandatory, and certainly not by rank. You want 20 d rank spells and nothing for the rest? Go for it. Zero d and c to have passives and high rank spells? More power to you. You could even have a magic of just a UA and sigs if you wanted. That is why it made no sense to me to even read the suggested change the way it was intended. It is not decreasing anything. It is increasing and being more restrictive since now you require spells for every rank. This is very confusing and contradictory with the latest changes as well as their goal to make it easier.

    I implore the current staff to go over the magic rules before making another suggestion like this because it seems like the latest changes were not read at all. Sorry if this is overly blunt or offensive. It's the way it currently looks.

    To add on, since there are many people that enjoy the stat system, I am changing my opinion and saying to keep them in. I wouldn't recommend changing anything about them though. The current rules were made to be clear and as easy as possible for both members and staff. Lets not ruin the work that was put into it.
