Luna came into town slowly as her body was closed off shivering under the large red long coat she had gotten. She couldn't afford much so all she could've gotten was the coat, some think black boots, some gloves and a grey scarf. Her ears were cold albeit the hood, her hands shaking as they clasped her coat, her left eye open barely as her right was closed, the wind pushing against her as she followed a trail to her destination. "By the beard of the Celestial king it's freezing!" The snow was up to Luna's knees, stumbling a bit from the cold as snow leaped through her coat and down her bare leg and into her boots. The chattering of teeth was the loudest thing she could hear, drowning out the wind as she felt like she could barely keep going. Following the trail along a icy lake, she eventually saw the small town in the distance and that lifted her spirits as she forced herself to the small town. It was easy to find the potion shop, it was beside the Wizard gear shop.
Pushing on the door she entered the building, gazing around rather quickly as she noted the small storefront. The room was spacious but small up until a counter extending from both ends of the wall with a gate near the end of the left side in front of the door. Sitting on a chair behind the counter was an elderly lady who got up as soon as she saw Luna walk in. "Oh dear lord, young lady you don't look alright. Come here, let me take a look at you."
Luna nodded and slowly walked over to the counter taking off her hood, freezing and soaking wet yet still determined to get the job done. "Hel, hello... I am Luna Mia, from the Cry- Crystal Swan guild. You posted, a job?" The elderly lady gazed at Luna, awestruck at her commitment to a job despite appearing to suffer from the cold. Resting a hand on Luna's shoulder, she led the young woman into the room in the back. "Yes yes, but for now let's worry about you. Heavens sake you don't look too good."
The room was more spacious then the other but it was cluttered. Along the right side extending around the corner towards the entry door, cluttered with vials of different colored fluids and various ingredients, as well as a few half open books. In the far right corner was an odd closet door, it appeared rather small and had a red gem embedded on a silver coin on top. On the left was a bookshelf next to a coat rack with a lot of empty spaces. The elderly lady led Luna towards the other end of the room with a fireplace and a few chairs and a bench in in a half circle in front, there was a lit fire with a pot over it. The smell of the beef stew filled the room. The elderly lady guided Luna to the bench as she helped remove her winter gear. Hanging it on the rack while Luna warmed up by the fire. "For heavens sake, you mages can be quite reckless, coming up to the cold and not even a pair of pants?"
Luna shivered as she sat at the bench, starting to realize how much she studied, and how little she knew. The world can seem small through a book but that knowledge is as small as it makes the subject seems. The elderly lady returned and poured some soup into a bowl and handed it to Luna "Here, have some of this. Novice mages are a common sight, eventually I've learned to keep a fire and bowl of soup for when that happens. Mostly younger ones like yerself" Luna smiled as she worked her way through the soup as she dried off and warmed up. The elderly lady sat on a chair curious about the mage. "So, what's your story?"
Luna sat with the bowl on her lap, her expression turned vacant at the question. "Oh, is that a sensitive topic..." Luna nodded. "I hope you don't mind if I don't answer, I don't want to be rude or anything it's just, personal." Luna sat the bowl down on the coffee table in from of her and stood up. Putting a cheerful smile on her face. "So what exactly do you need?" The elderly lady gestured towards the right side of the room "Anything, I could use something new for my shop. Something Wizards would enjoy making this place a stop on their return trips. Feel free to use anything, there should be plenty of paper to write down... Also there's my storage container in the corner. A nifty little gimmick a kind wizard set up for me, a requip expert. It's called 'Restock magic', just grab the door handle and twist it, the gem changes color to a different cabinet."
Luna nodded as the elderly headed towards the door. "Alright, I'll see what I can do..." The lady stopped as she reached the door to the storefront "Oh, you have till morning. I'll pay you for your efforts regardless." Luna nodded as the lady left and approached the counter. Luna took a few minutes to look around the room and inspect each ingredient. "Eye of salamander.... Thigh of frog, is that tobacco?" Luna took an empty vial and what she assumed was a dried pig snout and crumbled it up and putting it into the vial then added some various dried herbs. Walking up to the closet, she twisted the handle and the gem changed to glow green then blue. Opening the closet, the shelves were stocked with small vials of various liquids with labels. Luna pulled out vials labeled "Grizzly tears" "Enchanted sap" and one red one labeled "Phil" and introduced half of each but all of the last one into the test vial. The contents of the concoction started to bubble and shake, Luna could tell it was not gonna end well as she grabbed the vial and ran for the front door before throwing the vial out the door and into the air underhanded, letting the vial explode mid air into a beige cloud of smoke.
Shutting the door she turned to face her client who was reading a book labeled "Coping without a spouse.". The lady didn't lift an eye "You mixed Enchanted sap and Dried Pig snout didn't you?" Luna nodded shamefully. "Sorry...." The lady shrugged. "It's fine, you young wizards are the best entertainment I have since I lost my dear husband, Phil..." Luna's jaw dropped as she made the connection as to what that earlier red vial was. Before making her way back to the laboratory.
About a half an hour later, Luna made what appeared to be some sort of gray liquid that cleared up into a water like substance after a minute before bubbling and stirring, within the vial. However it didn't shake the vial and seeming to condense as the liquid seemed to disappear before imploding on a single point and condensing into what appeared to be a quarts like crystal. Pouring it out, Luna seemed genuinely confused yet impressed. "Alright, so I made an explosive that somehow produced boring smoke, and now a crystal substance. Both impressive, but not potions either."
Luna kept trying with seemingly endless combinations, until she had an idea of taking some of the inert projects and mixed them into one vial and was about to take a sip herself but the vial started shaking spilled over, shattered as white smoke came out but instead of spreading out it took a humanoid shape of a six foot tall man, appeared to be bald and muscular. His white eyes gazed into Luna's who was blushing and confused at the sight. The white mist man smiled as he ran his fingers along Luna's cheek that felt like a gentle breeze. He leaned down and kissed Luna, before without a word walking to the door, opening it, then leaving through the front door of the shop. Luna fell to her knees her face red, her jaw dropped as her heart fluttered. The elderly lady walked in quickly.
"Hey, Luna hun', does that hunk have a friend?" Luna almost jumped in shock as she tried to process everything. "Wh- What? Not a thing, nothing, nothing happened between me and him! Oh, a friend, no, he was the only one made. I, I can leave the formulas that I used." The elderly lady smiled. "It's fine, everyone gets lonely. I don't judge. Although I appreciate the formula as well, even an old gal needs somebody once in a while." The elderly lady turned and left the room again and Luna took a few minutes to collect herself before standing up. "How am I going to explain my first kiss was from a wind spirit that I made by accident?"
Hours passed and Luna had tried countless combinations before passing out from sheer exhaustion, only to be woken up in the morning, face first on a the counter, by something hitting her thigh. Shocked she looked around not recalling what happened. "Wh- What happened? Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry, I failed you-" Luna looked down to see a penguin at her thigh. It squawked happily. Luna raised an eyebrow as she was not sure what was going on until she walked out into the room into the storefront to see a few penguins loitering about while one was at the side of the client, who greeted luna with a smile. "You are a godsend young lady. That potion you made was incredible."
Luna looked at the lady blankly. "What?"
The lady gestured to the penguins in the room then the window at the front, Luna walked about looking around to see penguins all over the town. "That last potion you made was more of a splash potion, but a good one. You made a penguin lure, which has already started taking the town by storm. Well done." Luna's jaw dropped as she was shocked at what she saw, seeing the various penguins around, even the odd shapes and sizes, she swore she saw a penguin jacked with muscle and a six pack of abs. "Wh, what? IS that a penguin buying a fish? With Jewels? Where the hell did he get jewels, and an understanding of economics?"
Luna shook her head as she walked back to the counter. "This has been, the weirdest experience of my life. I think I might need counseling later." The elderly lady laughed a cackling laugh as she found Luna to be hilarious. "For what part? Kissing a creature you made out of mist, or becoming the queen of penguins?"
Luna buried her hands in her face "Which one is weirder i don't know... Why Queen of Penguins?". The elderly lady put the promised jewels on the table as she answered the question. "The locals heard about your efforts, it's sorta a name they gave you around here. Not quite urban legend just yet. Thank you for your services." Luna took the jewels and put it in a hidden pocket. "Thanks for your hospitality, but I must be going...." The elderly lady nodded as Luna returned to the back room to grab her winter gear before pressing the tattoo on the back of her neck, teleporting herself back to Crystalli.
Pushing on the door she entered the building, gazing around rather quickly as she noted the small storefront.
