Special Characteristics: On the outside, Maya looks like a normal human, but on the inside her body is in shambles. If it weren’t for a system of lacrimas that are embedded in her body, she would be undergoing constant organ failure. She’s essentially a golem sustained by mana at this point. Most of her bodily functions are optional now; it’s unknown if she’ll even age anymore.
Personality: Maya may seem like a cool and composed teenager on the outside, but it is all a front to conceal her inner weakness and uncertainty. When you first meet her, Maya does her best to exude an aura of calmness and composedness. She will try to do her best to hide her weaknesses and refrain from talking in order to give off an air of coolness, but in reality her mind and body are in constant turmoil. After an accident that horribly injured and disfigured her, her life was in grave danger; however, an experimental procedure led by an unknown doctor led to a series of Lacrimas being buried within her, restructuring her body to be fueled almost entirely by their magic. While it did save her life, it caused her body to go into turmoil, twisting and mutating her already tumultuous teenage body. The doctor who performed the operation on her vanished, and nobody else seems to know what he did to her, so she is stuck dealing with the issues without knowing the cause. Her mind was only thrown into more turmoil than it already was from these events; she is stuck in a body that no longer feels like it is hers, rediscovering herself both mentally and physically.
As one might imagine, this kind of stress and forced introspection has done a number to Maya’s poor mind. When one gets past her defenses, they will find an exceptionally vulnerable young girl with enough mental issues to daunt any therapist. Her mental state was already relatively frail before the incident, but it’s diminished to a thread at this point. As a result, she’s become prone to random outbursts of emotion and generally disconnecting from society. She desperately tries to avoid people that she used to know before the incident, terrified that they might not recognize her; instead, she frequents libraries and other places of knowledge, trying to find anything that might relate to her new situation. She had always been interested in knowledge and learning (and is a quick learner to boot), but her desire to learn has been kicked into overdrive recently. She has been forced to pick up a multitude of practical skills in her newly found career as a mage, and has begun to even enjoy her new career to an extent; at the same time, however, she longs for her old life and what she used to do.
In combat, Maya is rather high-maintenance. She is catastrophically unused to fighting and tactics, and though she’s willing to learn and learning fast, she’s still incredibly new to the whole situation, leading to her being rather useless sometimes. It does not help that her mental state can interfere with her ability to do her duty properly. At the same time, however, she is a loyal follower who does whatever is asked of her; in a supplier or support role, she shines spectacularly. She enjoys helping others, especially when she gets something in return (whether it be information or money). As a solo fighter, she fails to perform more often than not, but as a supporter for a true fighter, she does her role very well.

> Learning. Maya loves learning new things all the time, and is constantly picking up new skills out of either interest or necessity.
> Exploring. While she wasn’t particularly interested beforehand, since the incident Maya has been interesting in exploring her new situation and testing her limits. Despite the way it messed up her life, she has come to enjoy discovering new things about her body.
> Helping. Maya is a rather selfless person who would normally spend more time helping others than herself. Although her new situation has forced her to become somewhat more selfish, she still enjoys assisting others.
