Magic
Primary Magic: Hikari Nisemono
Explanation: I don't pretend to be an expert in Japanese, but I did pull from that language to name my character's magic. The word Hikari means light, and Nisemono means fake, which I used as a synonym of trick. In other words, the rough translation (that I'm using) means "Light Trick", although in English it would sound better to say "Trick of the Light."
Secondary Magic: Tsuyoi Ken
Magic Type: Caster (Solitary)
Description: Hikari Nisemono (which hereon out will simply be referred to as "Hikari") is a type of illusion magic. It allows its user to create visual illusions. But in addition to this most common usage, it also allows the caster to create auditory (sound) and tactile (physical feelings) illusions as well. However, whatever effects are used, they affect the target mentally only- there are no real physical effects.
Sayuri uses her Hikari magic both in and out of combat. Outside of combat, she usually uses it to help out others, be it through cheering them up when they're having a bad day. Small illusions are quite easy for her, although they hardly apply in combat. Inside of combat, her main use of her magic is to confuse and disorient her opponents. Because her magic has no physical effects, she relies entirely on her hand-to-hand and weapons skills in fights. However, she does use her magic to summon up illusions that will distract her opponents, giving her the upper hand, or to conceal her real location to avoid their attacks.

However, she does use her magic to summon up illusions that will distract her opponents, giving her the upper hand, or to conceal her real location to avoid their attacks.
Strengths:
- Distraction- Hikari magic is very good at distracting opponents, causing them to lose focus on what they are doing. If used well, it can cause them to miss on their attacks, or give Sayuri an opening to make an attack of her own.
- Concealment- This magic can allow Sayuri to temporarily hide her location from her opponent. Again, this can help her avoid attacks, or make her own attacks.
- Precision Targeting- Sayuri has very good control as to who exactly her magic affects. Because of this, her magic usually will not affect her allies, unless she specifically wants it to.
Weaknesses:
- No Physical Effects- This is the most obvious drawback of Hikari magic. None of the spells do any real physical damage to their targets. As such, no matter how strong the user is, they will almost always have some other form of attack, magical or physical, to finish off their enemy.
- Flying Blind- Another big drawback is that Sayuri cannot see, hear, or feel the illusions she creates. In order to maintain an illusions, she has to keep a mental image in her mind, but she cannot physically perceive her own illusions. As such, she simply has to assume that her illusion is working as intended, since she has no real way to tell. The only exception to this is pain magic, as she will sometimes feel at least some of the pain herself, as well as subjecting others to it.
- Focus- Almost all of Sayuri's illusions require concentration to maintain. She has to keep the mental image of what she wants to happen fixed in her mind. If she is distracted and looses track of that image, her illusion will immediately disappear as well. This also means it can be hard for her to maintain more than one spell at a time.
- Lineage:
Keeper of Peace:
Description: Legend tells of an enlightened monk who traveled around the world to places of ongoing war. Wherever he went, the war stopped for as long as he was present. However, he realized that whenever he left it would all start over again, so he used a powerful spell to sacrifice himself and spread his gift over the world. Some people are blessed with a fraction of the monk's gift at birth. They can call upon it to stop violence and fighting for a short period of time whenever tapping into the monk's power; they too cannot attack whilst the effect is in play.
Ability: The user shouts and spreads a white light over everyone nearby a 30 meter radius (+20 meters per rank beyond D). All fighting stops for 4 posts. People can still converse and interact, but are compelled not to do anything violent; this also applies to the user.
Usage:
Duration: 4 posts.
Cool-down: 10 posts.
Only affects beings the user’s rank or lower.(S Max)
- Unique Abilities:
- Kireina (Translation- Beautiful): Sayuri is able to actively use illusions to modify her appearance, although she can't make major adjustments. She'll always still look basically like herself. But she can change her hair and eye color, modify the appearance of the clothing she's wearing, and hide blemishes such as acne or scars. She rarely uses this ability in a fight, except for when she may hide any injuries she's gotten, simply to mess with her opponent's head in making them think that their attacks were less effective than they really were. Illusions created by this ability do not require much focus to maintain, and can only be used to affect her own appearance and nothing else.
- Rejisuto (Translation: Resist): Sayuri is resistant to other forms of illusion magic. She can usually recognize when something is an illusion- after all, she has plenty of practice. This makes it difficult to trick her this way, although she does, of course, make mistakes sometimes. Because of this, illusion spells of her rank or lower do not affect her (requires OOC permission.)
- Akumu (Translation: Nightmare): Akumu is a passive effect, and not a very pleasant one. Not pleasant to Sayuri, that is. It is essentially a drawback to Hikari magic. Her magic sometimes creates illusions (all three different kinds that her magic can produce) that affect her only, and she cannot control this at all. Even if she knows that they are illusions- and she can usually tell- that's doesn't make them go away. The more frequently she consciously uses her magic, the more likely it is that her "nightmares" (as she refers to the illusions that appear to her) will manifest themselves.
- Irujon (Translation: Illusion): This active ability allows Sayuri to create all types of non-combat visual illusions. Anything from beautifying an area, creating fake pets or companions, or even radically altering someone's appearance, including her own. However, any such illusion requires a lot of concentration, and because using her magic can trigger her Akumu ability, she doesn't use this very often. This ability cannot be used during combat, only in day-to-day life.
- Onsei(Translation: Voice): This ability allows Sayuri to communicate with anyone through her illusions. She can make them hear her voice, saying whatever it is she wants to tell them, even though she is not saying anything out loud. She can use this on ally or enemy alike, although they must be within 200 m of her for her to use this ability. Only one target can hear her at a time, but she can, of course, send the same message to multiple people. For obvious reasons, though, they cannot reply to her in the same manner, so this communication is one-way.

Spells:
- D-Rank Spells:
- Name: Itami (Translation- Pain)
Rank: D
Type: Offensive, Area of Effect
Damage: None, perceived pain of 40HP to each target hit
Range: 30 meters
Speed: 15 m/s
Duration: 3 posts
Cooldown: 5 posts
Downside: None
Description: To cast the spell, Sayuri calls out its name, Itami. A ring of purple energy spreads from around her feet, almost like a ripple on the surface of water, until it hits the range, at which time the visual disappears. Anyone who is touched by this energy (except allies, who are not affected by this spell) will instantly feel 40HP worth of pain, which gradually decreases throughout the duration of the spell, at which point this perceived pain fades completely.
Strengths: - Affects any enemies in the area, without harming allies.
- Does not require concentration for Sayuri to maintain, unlike her visual illusions.
Weaknesses:- The band of energy as the spell spreads is rather thin- only about 3 feet wide. If one avoids touching that band, they will not be affected by the spell.
- When she casts the spell, Sayuri herself feels about 20HP worth of pain, half the amount that her enemies feel. Like them, her amount of pain gradually lessens throughout the duration of the spell.
- Name: Shizukesa (Translation- Silent)
Rank: D
Type: Area of Effect
Damage: None
Range: 30 meters
Speed: 15 m/s
Duration: 2 posts
Cooldown: 3 posts
Downside: None
Description: In order to cast this spell, Sayuri speaks its name. A purple magic circle appears on the ground, the size of the range of the spell and centered on Sayuri's location. It renders any enemies within that circle unable to hear. It will not affect Sayuri herself or any allies.
Strengths:- Sayuri's spells are all triggered vocally, meaning she has to speak the name of the spell to cast it. Because this spell prevents enemies from hearing it can keep them from being able to tell what spell she is currently casting, since they cannot hear the name of the spell.
- Can allow Sayuri and her allies to talk to each other and strategize without their enemies overhearing.
Weaknesses:- Anyone of higher rank than the spell can spend MP to cancel the effect the spell has on them, rendering it useless.
- Anyone outside the spell's range is completely unaffected and can hear normally, making it ineffective on long-range mages.
- Name: Bari (Translation- Barrier)
Rank: D
Type: Defensive Illusion
Damage: None
Range: 30 meters
Speed: 30 m/s
Duration: 2 posts
Cooldown: 4 posts
Downside: None
Description: In order to cast this spell, Sayuri simply speaks its name. This creates some type of illusory barrier to appear anywhere within the spell's range. This barrier can be anything Sayuri can picture, from the obvious walls to something more subtle and suitable to the area- for example, a large bush if they are in a forest environment. This barrier blocks line of sight, but has no affect on Sayuri herself or her allies, so unlike their enemies they cal see through the illusion.
Strengths:- There is no visible magic energy when casting this spell. As such, if the opponents are not facing the location of the barrier when the spell is cast, unless they remember the area well enough to remember that the obstacle was not there before, there is no visible tell to indicate that it is an illusion.
- Can allow Sayuri and/or allies privacy to take whatever actions they should want without being seen by their enemies. Sayuri especially uses this spell in conjunction with her Sosei spell to hide the fact that she is creating an illusory version of herself.
Weaknesses:- Because this spell has no real physical effects, if the opponents realize it is an illusion they can simply walk right through it with no ill effects.
- Despite the apparent protection it seems to provide, this spell does not block any damage or attacks, which will simply go through the barrier as thought it isn't even there because, well, it really isn't even there...
- Name: Zatsuon (Translation- Noise)
Rank: D
Type: Area of Effect
Damage: None
Range: 30 m
Speed: 15 m/s
Duration: 3 posts
Cooldown: 6 posts
Downside: None
Description: To cast this spell, the user calls its name. A bright flare of purple magic flares around them for a brief moment. Then any enemies within the spells will begin to hear a loud, high-pitched shrieking sound that will last for the spell's duration.
Strengths:- Only affects enemies, not allies.
- Makes it hard for enemies to focus or communicate with each other.
Weaknesses:- Very short range, so ineffective against anyone who fights at a distance.
- Has a long cooldown period when compared to the duration.
- Name: Itami (Translation- Pain)
- C-Rank Spells:
- Name: Okami (Translation- Wolf)
Rank: C
Type: Offensive, multi-target
Damage: None, perceived damage of 10HP per hit
Range: 90 meters
Speed: 60 m/s
Duration: 5 posts
Cooldown: 6 posts
Downside: None
Description: In order to cast this spell, Sayuri calls out its name, Okami. An illusion of a wolf appears next to her, and can move anywhere within a 90 meter range of her location. Sayuri has full control of it, and it can bite and/or scratch enemies, causing 10HP worth of pain per hit. However, it causes no real damage, and the pain will disappear once the spell ends.
Strengths: - The attacks are fully under her control, meaning it will not harm anyone unless she wants it to.
- Its range allows her to target enemies that are out of her reach.
Weaknesses:- All ill effects end once the spell is over.
- The wolf can only take three hits of C-rank damage before it is destroyed.
- Name: Katana (Translation- Sword)
Rank: C
Type: Offensive Illusion, Multi-Target
Damage: No physical damage, causes perceived pain of 15 HP per hit.
Range: Sword is about 2 feet long, must physically touch the target to have any effect.
Speed: 65 m/s
Duration: 5 posts
Cooldown: 6 posts
Downside: None
Description: In order to cast this spell, Sayuri says the name of the spell, "Katana," and of course pictures the sword in her mind, as she must do with almost all of her spells. An illusion will appear in the form of a traditional two foot long Katana sword held in her hands, although Sayuri herself cannot see the blade. She uses this blade to make attacks, just like she would with a real sword, but she cannot block with the blade. However, the blade does not do any physical damage to her opponent. Instead, it makes them feel unarmed user-rank melee damage worth of pain for each time they are struck with the weapon. This perceived pain only lasts until the spell ends and the blade disappears, in which case the pain also goes away.
Strengths:- Unlike a real sword blade, this illusory sword has no weight and thus does not tire Sayuri or slow her down like sword would.
- Sayuri uses this spell as a bluff of sorts when someone decides to try and start a fight of sorts, making her appear armed, even when she really isn't. It has helped get her out of confrontations in the past.
- The pain caused by the sword stacks with each strike dealt, so the effects can accumulate very quickly if the target is not able to block the attack.
Weaknesses:- All negative effects of this spell go away once the duration of the spell is up.
- Because the illusion has to touch its target to have any effect, it can only be used at a very close range, which means she has to get very close to her opponent.
- Unlike a real weapon, the sword cannot block any damage to Sayuri, leaving her very open to any attack her opponent makes.
- Name: Teki (Translation- Enemy)
Rank: C
Type: Single Target
Damage: None
Range: 120 m
Speed: 120 m/s
Duration: 5 posts
Cooldown: 6 posts
Downside: None
Description: To cast this spell, the user calls out it's name, and a flash of purple energy flies toward the enemy it is targeting. If the enemy is hit, the caster can make something in the area appear to be an enemy to the target. Generally that 'enemy' is either a specific person involved in the fight, or a monster of sort. This means one of the target's allies could suddenly appear to be an enemy, although this could also be used to make an inanimate object appear as an opponent. The illusion will also make this 'enemy' appear to be attacking the target in some way.
Strengths:- Distracts the target from the real enemies they have in the fight.
- Can sometimes make the target go after their own allies while believing that they are an enemy.
Weaknesses:- Only has a visual effects. The person or object whose appearance was changed due to the illusion still sounds and physically feels the same.
- The illusion is tied to the physical location of whatever's appearance it is affecting. If that person or object isn't near the target who can see the illusion, it probably won't seem like much of a threat to them.
- Name: Okami (Translation- Wolf)
- B-Rank Spells:
- Name: Mahi Suru (Translation- Numb)
Rank: B
Type: Single Target
Damage: None
Range: 200 meters
Speed: 200 m/s
Duration: 6 posts
Cooldown: 7 posts
Downside: None
Description: To cast this spell, Sayuri speaks its name. A bolt of purple energy shoots toward the target. If the spell hits its target, the target will lose feeling in one of their limbs (of Sayuri's choice.) Because this effect is illusory and doesn't cause any true physical effects, the target can still use said limb, but it will be difficult. Because they cannot feel any sensations from it, it will be hard to use that limb very effectively.
Strengths: - Unlike many of Sayuri's spells, this one does not require intense concentration to maintain, making it easy for her to use it in combination with another spell.
- This spell is very effective against opponents who use melee combat, since it can effectively shut down their ability to use a certain weapons or walk/run into range to hit Sayuri (depending on whether the limb affected is an arm or leg.)
Weaknesses:- Not very good against long-range mages, especially if they don't have to use their limbs to cast their spells.
- The spell only affects a limited area of the target's body.
- Name: Sosei (Translation- Twin)
Rank: B
Type: Area of Effect
Damage: None
Range: 100 Meters
Speed: 50 m/s
Duration: 6 posts
Cooldown: 7 posts
Downside: None
Description: To cast this spell, Sayuri speaks the spell name, "Sosei." She is very briefly surrounded by an aura of purple energy (lasting a little under a second.) This uses illusion to hide her from the view of anyone within the spell's range. And the same time, it creates an illusion that looks exactly like Sayuri herself. She can control this illusion of herself, and even cause it to speak (it will sound like the words are coming from the illusion.) She herself can move separately, without being seen. She can, however, still be detected by sound and/or smell.
Strengths:- This spell helps Sayuri avoid attacks, since her opponent will usually aim them at the illusion of her, not at her real location.
- Because Sayuri can go unseen while using this spell, she is able to sneak up on/around her opponents, and launch attacks if there's any gap in their defenses.
Weaknesses:- Sayuri's real location can still be pinpointed by sound, if she accidentally makes noise, or by smell if her opponents have a keen sense of smell. It also doesn't work on mages of high enough rank.
- Even while using this spell, Sayuri will still be hit by area of effect spells, and single- or multi-target spells, if they happen to hit her location.
- If anything, be it a spell, person, or physical object, touches either her or the illusion of her, the spell will be broken instantly, both causing the illusion to disappear and making her visible again. This happens regardless of how much time is left in the spell's duration.
- Name: Henso (Translation- Disguise)
Rank: B
Type: Area of Effect
Damage: None
Range: 100 m
Speed: 50 m/s
Duration: 6 posts
Cooldown: 7 posts
Downside: None
Description: To cast this spell, the user calls out the spell's name, and a brief flash of purple magic energy appears around the caster. Then the appearance of the caster, or an ally of their choice, changes to whatever they wish, be it a different person, a creature of sorts, or even an inanimate object. This illusion appears to anyone within the spell's range, except for the caster and the target whose appearance was changed. However, anyone outside of the spell's range does not see the illusion. The range is centered around the person whose appearance was changed, and if the spell is not used on the caster themself then the ally it is used on must be within 100 m of the caster at the time the spell is cast.
Strengths:- Can help hide the caster or one of their allies from an enemy, or make them seem like less of a threat.
Weaknesses:- If anyone is facing the target when their appearance is changed they aren't likely to fall for the illusion...
- Name: Mahi Suru (Translation- Numb)
- Advanced Spells:
- Name: Nejire (Translation- Distortion)
Rank: D+
Type: Area of Effect
Damage: None
Range: 45 meters
Speed: 25 m/s
Duration: 5 posts
Cooldown: 6 posts
Downside: None
Description: Like her other spells, Sayuri speaks the spell name to cast this spell. A burst of purple magic energy is emitted from her location, spreading to the limit of the spell's range. This spell alters its target(s)'s perception of the environment. It doesn't make things look substantially different. It just seems a little... Off. It generally manifests as a shimmering sort of look, almost like a mirage, which makes it hard to focus on the environment.
Strengths: - This spells can make it hard for Sayuri's opponents to focus on what is going on around them.
- The spell is selective, meaning that although it is an area of effect, it only affects those within its range that Sayuri wants it to affect. It does not affect her allies.
Weaknesses:- This spell does not work on any mage whose rank is higher than the spell rank.
- The spell requires intense focus for Sayuri to maintain. If her concentration is broken the spell will end, regardless of how long it has been active.
- Name: Kurai (Translation: Dark)
Rank: C+
Type: Area of Effect
Damage: None
Range: 90 meters
Speed: 45 m/s
Duration: 6 posts
Cooldown: 7 posts
Downside: None
Description: In order to cast this spell, Sayuri speaks its name, "Kurai." Once this spell is activated, the area covered in this range, centered around Sayuri's location at the time the spell was cast (it does not move when she does) suddenly appears to be pitch black, like it would be at night, but with no ambient lighting. This illusion does not appear to anyone outside of the range of this spell unless they step within its range while it is still active, in which case they will then perceive the illusion.
Strengths:- This spell obscures the vision of anyone inside its range.
- Because Sayuri cannot see her own illusions, the darkness in the area does not affect her, meaning she can still see as normal.
Weaknesses:- This spell is non-discriminate, meaning it will affect anyone in the area, regardless of whether they are an ally or enemy.
- This spell is not very useful against anyone with enhanced night vision or who can see in the dark well.
- Name: Mienai (Translation- Unseen)
Rank: B+
Type: Area of Effect
Damage: None
Range: 150 m
Speed: 75 m/s
Duration: 8 posts
Cooldown: 12 posts
Downside: None
Description: To cast this spell, the caster says its name. A brief flash of purple magic energy appears around the caster, and then an illusion hides them from the view of anyone within the spell's range. Anyone outside of the range can still see her normally. The range is centered around where the spell was cast, not where the caster is.
Strengths:- The caster is essentially invisible to anyone within the range of the spell, unless they cancel the effect.
Weaknesses:- Affects everyone within range, regardless of if they are an ally or enemy.
- The caster can still be located by sound, or scent if anyone within range has an increased sense of smell. It they are not very quiet they can be found rather easily. They can also be located by touch.
- If the caster takes more than 120 HP of damage while this spell is active, the spell ends, regardless of how much time is left on the duration, and the spell instantly goes on cooldown.

- Name: Raito (Translation- Light)
Rank: D-rank Signature
Type: Burst

Downside: None
Description: Sayuri calls out the spell's name, "Raito", and a sudden bright flash of light is emitted from her location, dealing no damage.
Strengths: - This blinding flash of light temporarily impairs her enemy's vision. This can cause them to miss their aim on an attack, physical or magical, or can stop them from noticing an attack Sayuri carries out.
Weaknesses:- Can disorient allies as well as enemies
Only lasts for a brief moment, and only at close range. Anyone far enough away will suffer no ill effects.
- Name: Kigu (Translation- Fear)
Rank: User-Rank Signature (Up to S-Rank)
Type: Offensive, Single Target
Damage: None
Range: User-Ranked Single-Target Spell Range (Up to 400 m at S-rank)
Speed: User-Ranked Single-Target Spell Speed (Up to 400 m/s at S-rank)
Duration: Spell-Ranked Max Duration (Up to 10 posts at S-rank)
Cooldown: Spell Duration + 1 Post
Drawback: None
Description: In order to cast the spell, Sayuri speaks the spell name, "Kigu" and extends her right hand toward her enemy, her palm facing them. A dark purple orb of energy appears from her hand and flies toward her target. If it strikes the target, the magic can sense one thing that the target is personally afraid of, and it will manifest an illusion off that thing, although Sayuri herself has no idea what exactly it is showing.
Strengths:- Because the spell discerns the target's specific fears, the illusion it creates is tailored in a way to disturb them emotionally. Since the spell chooses the illusion, not Sayuri herself, she does not have to maintain her mental image of the illusion, that frees up her concentration for other spells.
Weaknesses:- If the target realizes that the illusion is just that, an illusion, then they will realize that it cannot really harm them. That would allow them to totally ignore the effects of the spell, with enough mental discipline.
