- Job Title: To Hunt a Vampire; III - Find the Nest
Rank: B
Player Requirements: At least 1 B-Ranked mage or equivalent. 10,000 Words minimum. At least 7 monster rolls. Defeat a vampire scout. All mages having completed the job "To Hunt a Vampire; II - Ritual Blades"
Job Requirements: Interrogate a vampire
Job Location: Lycan Woods
Job Description: The leader of the organization of hunters once again thanks you for your help and once again asks you to help them. You and your fellow mages are one team of two, the other consisting of the four hunters of the organization, excluding the leader. Both parties are armed with one of the enchanted swords from the ritual and are tasked to find a vampire and interrogate it to find the source of the vampires.
Following the interrogation, the vampire will lead you to their nest, a cave hidden in the heart of the Lycan Woods behind an illusory spell. The leader of the vampires will await you and formally congratulate you on your efforts before brutally slaying the traitor. After this, he will tell you a tale of how he and his 'family' simply want to be left alone and that they have really just been protecting themselves from the monster hunters. He will call them indiscriminate killers and tell you how they don't even hunt humans for their bloody meals, only animals. The Master Vampire will conclude his tale with an offer: Help him to eliminate the murderous organization and he will make you and any willing fellow mages part of his 'family,' should you so choose. If you decline his offer, as a show of good faith, he will simply let you go back to report their whereabouts to your employer, though he will be quite disappointed.
Enemies:
Normal: Lycanthrope minora x4 [Rolling weak also makes you encounter the vampire. If you can only encounter this once]
Their appearance is preceded by a powerful howl. These are humans which have been cursed by a Lycanthrope majora. While they aren't as powerful as their pure-blooded counterparts, they still pack a punch. They are massive and will try and pounce on their prey. Each has 150 HP and deals B-Rank damage which each of their melee attacks.
Strong: Lycanthrope majora x2
These pure bloods have full control of their transformations and will use it almost as a take-over mage would use their magic. While in the lycan form, they will retain their conscious mind and wiles - opting to carefully allocate their strength to move efficiently instead of rushing you recklessly like their servant counterparts. In addition to having 250 HP and dealing A-Rank damage with their melee attacks, these pure bloods will be able to call four Lycanthrope minoras once their health drops to 100 HP. They will only howl once for reinforcements as they will be too weak to do so again. Finally, if you get struck by a melee attack by this beast you will resist the curse, but your own physical abilities will halve and you will feel quite nauseous for two posts. This poisoning effect does not stack.
Boss: Vampire with a grudge
You recognize this vampire, it's the one that was guarding the book! He must have sniffed you out to exact his revenge! Not only is its physical abilities triple that of an A-Rank mage, it also has powerful magic which is best described as a blend between darkness and blood. It can turn invisible, shape shift between its regular form and a swarm of bats, and grow sharp claws that inflict S-Rank damage. Lucky for you, you have a blade that can hurt it. It has 500 HP, but your sword deals triple your rank's damage for every hit you land! Still, be on your guard, he may have new tricks and remember, you must not kill him. Once he gets two a tenth of his health he will be in a weak enough state to question and with some "encouragement" will lead you to the vampire's den.
Spells:
Blood Leech - The vampire points its arm out at his target and fires a beam of blood towards them. If it hits, the target will lose 40 HP and the vampire will permanently gain 50% to its physical abilities.
Shadow Snare - The vampire stomps on the ground and a wave of darkness is sent towards a single target. If the wave hits then the target will be immobilized for one post. Additionally, targets will lose 10% of their max HP. Only targets on the floor may be affected.
Bloody Downpour - The vampire will raise both its hands towards the ceiling and will cause it to rain down needles of blood. These do 30 HP of damage per post and last 4 posts. Additionally, anyone who takes damage from the spell will suffer from complete blindness for one post. Can be blocked by any kind of shielding spell.
Black Fog - The vampire will blow to create a thick black fog that engulfs everything in a mile radius. This black fog will be too thick to see through and will do 10 HP damage per post you inhale it. Additionally, the vampire can see perfectly through the fog.
Reward: 25,000 Jewels and access to "To Hunt a Vampire; IV - The Finale". No jewels and access to "To Hunt a Hunter; The Finale" if you accept his offer.
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
What had seemed like a simple job had spun into an entire series of jobs, each more treacherous than the last. And they had only taken part in two of them; now it seemed the leader of these hunters had yet another one ready and waiting for them, if they chose to take it. But this one wasn’t as simple as neither the first one nor the second one, though the jury was still out on that most recent expedition. It seemed like the part of this hunt was to locate the nest of vampires and put them down for good. This wasn’t some easy job, following some map or hidden trail that would lead them right to the blood sucker’s home. No, it seemed they had to find another vampire first and force him to lead them to the lair. No small or easy task surely.
After the last job, she had offered them the opportunity to possess some weapons from their forge master, crafted from the bodies of those that Markus had killed. To Mythal, it seemed that meant that bones and claws would be used to create some kind of amalgamation of a weapon. Not exactly his cup of tea. But upon looking – or well, partly looking – at the glowing silver swords they had worked to bless, the God Slayer had demanded that one of them be gifted to him. There was a look of hesitance on the woman’s face and she seemed ready to explain why she and her hunters deserved the blade more than he. But he was quick to cut her off; Markus and he had worked harder than they were led to believe to protect them from an outright massacre. As far as he was concerned, both of them had earned a blade – though Markus seemed to be lacking any interest in taking one. While it did glow as bright as the moon above them, it only mildly bothered Mythal. It was interesting to see just how different their magic was, while also still of the same strain.
In the end, they had agreed and Mythal had taken a single gnarled claw from what was left of a were beast and asked that it be added to the pommel. With one of the weapons designated for him and taken away for work, the plan was laid out for the rest of the hunt. Two parties were to be formed – one consisting of Mythal and Markus and the other of the four hunters who had half played guard in the cemetery. Each one would be armed with one of the glowing blades and tasked with finding a vampire and bringing him to heel long enough to question him.
And so they set out. Mythal offered to take the blade, shoving it within a borrowed scabbard so its light wouldn’t hinder Markus. "You know, here I thought ‘hey, one job and done,” Mythal commented, walking through the dark woods beside the other Slayer. "Boy that went out the window.”
