A call for help in the form of a letter arrives at your guild or is sent to you. A coastal town has been threatened by a pirate gang that if they don't pay a handsome sum to them then they will be raided and wiped from the face of Earthland. You are sent to protect this town from the pirates. Keep them alive if you can but protection of the people and town are the most important things in this job.
to succeed you must defeat the enemies you roll and make sure no harm comes to the town or city.
Enemies:
Weak: Four-Finger's Pyromaniac x10 - A fire wizard from the Four-Fingers gang, not too skilled but their spells seem to have a long range and homing capabilities. wears assorted clothes and armor. They deal less than 10 damage with their fire spells, but their attacks are hard to dodge. Takes 1 hit of D-Ranked damage each to defeat. They aim for civilians and wooden structures
Normal: Four-Fingers Cannoneer x5 - a requip master of the Four-Fingers gang, they wear leather coats. More skilled but extremely slow when they have their cannon summoned. They can summon huge hand held cannons that deal 1 C-rank but are slow to fire and inaccurate. Takes 2 hits of D-Ranked damage or one hit of C-Ranked damage to defeat. They aim for structures to destroy with their heavy cannons.
Strong: Four-Finger's Summoner's x3 - These 3 wizards wear blue and white masks with wave designs on them and leather coats. They are weak by themselves but together their pets can deal lots of damage. They each have a different summon; one is a metal golem with 3 artillery cannons on it (one on each arm and one in it's chest), one is a huge parrot with extreme speeds, the last is a whirlpool with 5 tentacles sprouting out. The summoner's take 2 hits of D-Ranked damage to defeat and their summons only die when they are defeated, however you could deal damage to them to incapacitate them (if you cut the tentacles of the whirlpool it won't be able to use them.)
Boss: Captain Four-Fingers - This guy is the big bad of the Four-Finger's gang. He is a very skilled Wizard; C-Ranked in his level of skill. He specializes in requip and fire magic, having the abilities of both the pyromaniac and the cannoneer without their weaknesses. Takes 2 hits of B-Ranked damage, or 4 hits of C-Ranked damage, or 8 hits of D-Ranked damage to defeat. If he appears, the other enemies leave.
Reward: 20000 jewel and the thanks of the town. If you capture the enemies alive and take them to the magic council they will thank you for your service to Earthland.

Althea gripped the side of the vessel with one hand, the other clamped over her mouth. She felt like she wanted to die right there and then on that wretched boat which kept swaying back and forth. The wizard’s knees barely able to support her at all, and eventually they gave in, Althea practically sprawled out everywhere on the boat. She was warned by Tethys, the dragon who had taught Althea water dragon slayer magic, that transportation wouldn’t feel ‘very good’, but that was a huge understatement. Her entire stomach was moving every which way along with the eternally swaying boat, leaving her immobilized. Pulling herself up just enough to have her mouth reach over the side of the boat, she had to quickly vomit. To be honest, it was Althea’s first time on any time of transportation since learning her new magic. The motion sickness was extremely overwhelming, but it was the worst it would probably get. The sailors on the boat along with her kept casting confused yet amused glances at the young girl, having never really seen such intense sea sickness.
Anyways, Althea could only really just hold out until the boat arrived at its desired destination: Mount Helicon. The vessel was just full of a bunch of fishermen looking for places to sell their wares, but they allowed the wizard to hitch a ride free of charge. But, at that point in time they were close enough to the island to see it. As soon as Althea hear the word “land” she immediately heaved herself upwards, looking over the edge of the boat and into the horizon. And there it was, a line of mountains laid in the midst of the fog, giving Althea enough strength to stand on her feet. They had arrived! Leaping right off the boat and into the water, motion sickness subsiding the moment she left the vessel. The wizard swam to the shore, leaving a stream of water in her wake.

Mer had never been on a boat before but she loved how it felt. The way the boat swayed felt like magic to her. She closed her eyes and just imagined her mother rocking her back in forth in her arms, while she hummed a song that stuck to the memory of Mer since she could walk. As she began to hum the very song that her mother sang, she felt the ground under her be swiped from her. She realized the boat had stopped in the middle of the sea because a girl jumped off the boat.
As Mer looked down towards the water, she realized that it was someone she knew. She wondered if it was actually her, but with that white hair, it had to be. Mer watched as the bundle of white hair swam across the ocean as though it was a breeze. She left behind what seemed to be a slipstream like area. Mer smiled as she swam to shore and said, "Welp if anyone would be brave enough to do that, it would be her." She then smiled gently as she thought to herself, "Hmm...I think I know how to check off that 'learning how to swim' section on my bucket list." With one quick movement, Mer jumped off the ship and activated her penguin ruin.
As she got into the ocean, the wings of her penguin rune stuck to her. It was weird swimming in the ocean because she wasn't too sure if this was how regular people did it. She seemed like she was going really fast the way she was doing it, though. This made her actually quite happy due to the fact that she had never done it before. The moment she got on shore, she saw Thea there. Mer tilted her head and smiled. She greeted the girl and said to her, "Funny meeting you here. I'm guessing you signed up for the job as well?"

Althea was able to reach the shore in a flash, immediately caressing the solid ground. It felt great to have finally gotten off the hell-ish ship, and she wasn’t planning on getting onto one once more any time soon. After spending a bit of time simply laying on the ground, basking in the Sun, the young girl eventually got up, ready to perform the task she was on Mount Helicon for in the first place. Briefly stretching, Althea was about to make her way towards the town before the scent of a familiar mage reached her senses. Turning around, she caught sight of an approaching redhead, grinning once she realized who it was.
“Hey Mer, didn’t think I’d see you here!” Althea exclaimed once the rune user had reached the shore. “And yeah, I’m here to beat up some pirates, but I sure am happy to see you again.” Last time the pair had done a mission together was at Mountain Village where they had dealt with a chupacabra problem, which was a particularly fun thing to do. Seeing and fighting with magical creatures was always something Althea enjoyed to do. Although pirates weren't as mystical as chupacabras, they were still pretty cool and the young girl was looking forward to dealing with them. “Okay, let’s go to the village then!”
Running across the beach, not fast enough to kick up sand but enough to simply move at a quicker pace than simply walking, Althea kept a lookout for the village. Eventually, she slowed her pace, entering the small coastal town that had posted the job. Part of it was built on top of the beach, but the majority of the village was on top of regular earth. The strong scent of cooking fish and all sorts of crabs wafted towards Althea, causing her mouth to water a fair amount. But, what really caught her attention were the villagers wielding spears, points aimed at Althea and Mer. They meant business with them, although the spears were just particularly sharp shells on sticks. “Stop right there and state your business!” One called out to them, taking an swift step towards the pair.
“We’re here to protect you guys from the pirates!” Althea exclaimed, placing her hands on her hips in a moody fashion. “So now you should explain what you guys are doing, why the spears?” The one who had stepped forward looked the girls up and down, trying to judge if they really were able to utilize magic. Eventually, they sighed, lowering their crudely made spear. Although apprehensively, the rest of the group also lowered their arms. “Fine, I believe you then. We're using these to defend from the four-finger pirates, but can you really handle them?” At this question, Althea nodded vigorously, confident in her skills as a wizard. Sighing, the villager gave in, “Come then. I’ll show you where they’ll be coming to collect our hard-earned riches.”

Mer seemed to be happy about the excitement Thea had for seeing Mer. It made her feel pumped up and ready for anything. Mer looked back at the time of their last job, where Thea successfully defeated 2 chupacabras. She remembered it well, especially since the vamp had confronted her about her family. She still wondered what he meant by what he said to this very day. She wondered how well he knew her and her family. With a shake of anxiety, Mer looked back out to the real world. Apparently, Thea had said something to her, but she didn't know what. Mer just stared blankly and hoped she would say the right answer. That is why whenever she opened her mouth, she said, "Uh...ye-es?"
After that, they started walking on the beach. Thea was kicking around sand for no apparent reason, which weirded Mer out. She wondered if this was really what people in the real world did to pass time by. She found it interesting, so she decided not to ask any questions. As she followed the sand that Thea kicked, she heard a loud noise. It seemed to be someone yelling at them.
Looking up, she saw a group of people with spears. Mer jumped a tiny bit at the sight of them, but she calmed down since she realized Thea was still around her. They wanted to know what our business here was. Mer opened her mouth only to be interrupted by the voice of the girl next to her. She identified themselves as guild members on a job to defeat the evil pirates. A few of the people in the crowd looked baffled because after, all they were children. Mer wondered if this was always going to be the reaction from people whenever she took a job from them.
In her thought process, she saw, what looked like the crowd leader, cooperate with them. Mer let out a sigh of relief when the man lowered his spear at them. It was kind of fun feeling that adrenaline rush for her. It was a great feeling to have all the energy rushed through her body all at once. That feeling resided after only a few mere seconds which was fine for her. The crowd leader then lead them through the town to what seemed to be a dark cave.
With a voice of worry, the leader had said to them, "We have told them that all our treasure would be in this cave. We were hoping that if we did this, any mage that came would have an easy job getting the slip on them. We will try to get a hold of his henchmen while you two will hide in there. Once the captain comes, jump him and defeat him. Hopefully, once you do this, his crew will run in fear of being captured. If this works, we will pay you a nice sum from the riches of our city. Are you both good with this plan?" Mer nodded and said, "Okay." Now that she agreed, she looked at Thea and hoped that she would agree for the well being of this town.

Althea was led through the town, looking around the vicinity mostly out of curiosity. Getting to Mount Helicon was a pain and the girl wasn’t planning on waste the visit. According to a few people, it had several tourist attractions, although the section Althea and Mer were currentley in was mostly just for actual residents. But, many of the houses looked like they were torn straight from a brochure with seashells embedded in the roads and houses made up of bright coral-colored planks. She just guessed that those pictures must have come from somewhere, the tourist areas just mimicking how they actually were. Grinning to herself, Althea reckoned that this was the better deal. A free ride here and streets clear of flashing cameras? The only price was dealing with pirates, which was fun in its own right. The thought of crossing cutlasses with a pirate captain while on top of a mountain, rain pouring from the sky, was nothing less than awe inspiring. But as the pair arrived to the cave, she paused her daydreams after realizing she didn’t really know how to use a sword.
Once the leader finished speaking and Mer had agreed to the plan, Althea also nodded in agreement. “Yep! I’m all with it!” She felt the redhead’s eyes on her, turning to meet them, offering a wide but determined grin. “Let’s do this.”
The group who had escorted the girls to the cave left once the sound of gunshots echoed through the air. “Those pirates sure are punctual huh?” The leader murmured under their breath, turning to Mer and Althea. “Don’t worry about anyone being hurt. Those were just to announce their presence, they said they’d do something like that the first day they visited this village.” They squeezed their weapon tighter, obviously not too happy about the current situation in their home. Turning they started out of the cave, their entourage following. “Make sure you two succeed. Everyone’s counting on you.” And with that, they were gone. Now just realizing the importance of the mission they were currently on, Althea promptly jumped up into the air, hanging onto a sturdy stalactite hanging from the ceiling. Before anything could really do down yet, the wizard cast a quick enchantment on her comrade just in case. All there was to do was wait, and she didn’t need to do so for too long.
“Just this way, Captain Four-Fingers.” A voice said, several footsteps approaching the shaded enclosure. “Argh, ye know that if this is a trick I’ll have yer ‘eads on me rusty hook?” A hoarse voice bellowed. That was the moment Althea saw her opponent for the first time, and for some reason they didn’t have a hook for their hand, which was weird considering their threat. “Yes Captain…” Said the leader of the group from before, looking down at their feet tensely. “Now, where is yee boot-” Now that the captain was right underneath her, Althea let go of the stalactite, aiming a dive kick at the pirate’s head which eventually connected. She pushed into his head with her feet, launching herself away- doing a flip for the heck of it before landing. “Surprise!”
The villagers wielding spears suddenly turned on the other pirates, attacking them bitterley. Four-Fingers scowled, “I be knowin’ this ‘ere be a trap! I’ll be buryin’ ya in Davy Jones's Locker now!” Promptly, the captain summoned a canon in one hand and flames in another, Althea falling into her fighting stance. “It’s you who will… uh…” She glanced at Mer for a bit of help wit the quip before the pirate captain came charging, flaming hand held outwards. Stepping aside at practically the last second, Althea whipped around to face the pirate, fists engulfed by fluidly moving water. While his back was still turned, she aimed a punch at him which connected, causing Four-Fingers to stumble from the blow. But, the pirate quickly recovered from the recoil, turning to bash Althea with his loaded cannon. The blunt attack caused the wizard to practically fly into the cave wall, falling to the ground. “Don’t… Challenge… the great Four-Fingers!” The pirate thundered, aiming the cannon at the girl. Able to roll away right when he pulled the trigger, Althea mostly was able to avoid sustaining maximum damage from the blast, although it had still singed her skin a bit. She got to her feet, taking a breather for a moment before joining in on the fray.
Althea decided that then would be the end of things when she leapt into the air, descending onto Four-Fingers with a kick similar to the one she had performed with their first encounter. Smiling as he knew the attack, the captain reached out to grab hold of the incoming leg when Althea spun herself around, doing a backflip in mid air. Her foot landed squarely on the pirate’s head, disorienting him. Following up her surprise attack, she launched two more simultaneous punches before landing onto the ground.

Mer saw as Althea got pumped once again. It made Mer feel really happy and cheered up inside. It was so nice for Mer to finally meet someone as nice to her as she was with others I'm throwing shade at you Poko. She smiled as she heard a gunshot in the air. Mer yelped a tiny bit as the leader sade with a serious voice that they had to succeed. Mer knew that the leader was serious by the way, they grasped onto the weapon. The leader definitely did not want to lose the town they loved. Mer understood that greatly, which made her want to finish this mission with as much ease as possible. She knew that she would not want Fantagia to be destroyed, so why would she let this one? As she looked back to the leader, she said to them, "I promise I will save your town no matter what. Even if I die in the process." With a nod, the leader shooed them to the cave behind them.
Mer hid behind a rock in the cave as she awaited the movements of the captain. She felt as the tenseness of the situation began. She heard footsteps, coming towards the cave. One by one, they hit the ground. It was as though this was a scary story that villager mamma told her at the bonfires. She heard as the captain trusted the person leading him. She knew that sooner or later, the plan would commence. This meant that it would be time for both Thea and Mer to fight. As Mer heard the captain threaten the villagers, she heard something even more peculiar. She heard some sort of metal being moved around, maybe even some sort of hook. It wasn't on his hands, no that would be too obvious. It was on his...foot? As Mer looked down at it, she felt herself gag at the sight. It was rusted and for some reason, it was turning his leg purple. That was not a sign of healthiness. As he walked in, she heard as the villagers began wrestling his other crew members. Mer and Thea both stood up, ready to fight the pirate. As Thea tried to come up with a comeback line to the pirate's threat, Mer looked down at that grotesque hook he called a foot and ran back into the cave to unleash her bowels. She threw up the lunch she ate on the trip to the island as she heard two people fighting behind her.
She tried looking up, but she just kept thinking of that purple leg attached to that old yellow metal hook. She wondered how someone like that could still be standing. She clenched onto her legs with her hands as everything in her body came out until nothing else could anymore. She didn't even want to start fighting that disgusting old man until she heard a scream coming from her partner. She looked behind her to see Thea thrown off to the side. Mer then glared at the pirate to see him say the words, "What argghh yee looking at?" Mer felt anger rise up in her body. She looked at the man with anger and requiped two runes into her hands. The rune of the Fox and the rune of the jaguar. With that, the day became night and right as Mer grew celestial shells of foxtails, she disappeared into the darkness.
He chuckled out loud and said to Mer, "Nice trick ye old dumb witch." Mer looked seriously at the man and said to him, "What did you say to me?" He tried to answer back, but he was interrupted by Mer when she said, "Don't you dare say that again. You are not getting away with hurting my friend and calling me a witch. The spirits of Fantagia are with me when I say, we will not back down until you are put away for all you've done. With a quick flash, she created a zone of blinding light that burned health away from the captain. With a loud scream, he said in the other direction of Mer, "What kind of sorcery is this? You have taken both of my eyeballs, and now I'll die from the darkness I see." Mer tilted her head as she shook her head. She knew that he was blinded, but she knew that was no excuse for him to be even more insane then before. With a quick teleport, she came behind him as she slashed at his back. He reached for it, but Mer kicked him down so he wouldn't move. As he begged for mercy, Mer looked down at him and rolled her eyes as she tied his arms and legs together with a rope she found earlier. He tried to speak, but Mer moved his eyepatch down to his mouth and said to Thea, "Thea! We did it!" She went over to Thea and cheered with as much delight as possible.
