    Job info:

Oras had been tracking an individual for a while now.  Namely a cultist he had located and had been shadowing for quite some time.  This cultist he was hoping, would lead him to some sort of base of operations.  If he could find at least one of their hideouts he could find an actual lead.  If he found a lead, he'd tell Amora before the two weeks had passed...  So much had happened in this short time too...  He wasn't sure why the cultist was even in this town though.  There was no hint of any sort what his purpose could be.  Was it planting another weed/plague?  Was it finding victims to take with him for a sacrifice of some sort?  Was there a hideout in here somewhere?  The logical answer in this scenario was in fact that there had to be a hideout somewhere in this town, or somewhere past this town.  There were of course other options, such as this man preparing an ambush, or possibly ritual.  Or meeting with another cultist to talk in secret.  Regardless of the reason he needed to keep shadowing the individual...

The man seemed to be waiting in the middle of a crowd outside the Oak inn. What he was doing waiting among a crowd was beyond Itzal but still...  Then another individual walked over to Oras and handed him a flier.  The man was crying out trying to get people's attention, mentioning some 'attraction' that just opened to the public.  Oras looked at the flier and read it.  Murder mystery?  Oras looked back up to see the cultist was still there....  Was he here for this?  If so why?  People started to file in and he folded the flier up, making his way inside.  As he did so he accidentally bumped into someone.  He was about to just push on through, but when he saw who the person was..
     "..Sassi?"

Sassi had been reading the flier for the 'Murder Mystery Game' she had recieved while waiting for the event to begin. She remembered how yesterday, she had recieved this very flier while back at the Silver Moon Inn in Rose Gardens, and found herself, despite her hopelessly shy nature, being surprisingly curious about this. She had never been to any of these events before, but she almost didn't have the courage to go. Almost being the key word, as she somehow managed to will herself to go this time.

So, here Sassi was, at the Oak Inn in Oak Town, waiting for this 'game' to begin. She felt herself get bumped into, which startled her a bit, and caused her to drop her flier. Her heart pounding just a little bit faster than normal, she slowly bent over, and shakily picked it back up. She then slowly stood back up, and looked around to find out who had bumped into her, and saw that it was one of her Black Rose guildmates. "V-Verus? Wh-What are you doing here?" she asked.

Judging by the way Sassi had reacted to his question, she was just as surprised to see him.  That however was to be expected, as she didn't seem to be the type of person who would just follow someone for unknown reasons.  Most likely she was hear because the attraction had reached her ears and she wanted to enjoy herself a little bit.  Murder mystery in Oaktown's inn?  No real danger just playing detective for a night?  Most people would see this as fun.  Oras sort of saw it as practice, and felt like he may be cheating if he actually participated.  Still, the cultist was going in so he may as well do the same.  Speaking of the cultist he thought to himself, as he looked toward the crowds.  He spotted the cultist entering the building mentally cursed at his luck.  He took Sassi's hand, gently and not rough or forceful.  "Follow me in, I'll explain in a second."  If she went along with it, he would guide her inside, gently moving people out of the way so that they could get in.  When he reached the doors he saw a woman selling out tickets.  When she saw Oras and Sassi approach, she gave a smile.  "Hello there!  Are you here to participate in the murder mystery attraction?"  "If the option is available I'll act as security.  I'm a wizard in the black rose guild."  The woman nodded and pointed in the direction of the papers needing to be signed for him to do so.  Oras would wait for Sassi to sign up for the attraction, or for security, or bypass it entirely before getting his papers and moving to the side to write it down away from the crowds.  He would gesture for her to sit beside him so he could catch her up to speed.  "There have been some cultists I've been trying to take down for some time, and I followed one here.  That's why I'm here Sassi, shadowing a cultist."

Sassi heard Verus tell her to follow him and that he would explain why in a second, and he took her hand, leading her inside the inn. The tone of voice she heard him use when he told her to follow him suggested that there was something going on, and that made her nervous.

When they got in, Sassi and Verus met up with a woman who was handing out tickets. She asked them if they were participating in the 'Murder Mystery' event, and she heard him say that if the option was available, that he would participate as security, since they were Black Rose wizards.

Sassi watched Verus sign himself up for the event as security, and just because Sassi felt just a little more comfortable being with Verus, then she would in a group of complete strangers, she decided to also sign up for the event as security. Once she was done, she joined up with her guildmate.

Sassi listened as Verus explained to her that the reason he was here was because he was shadowing some 'cultists' who he felt were up to no good here, and he felt that one of them was going to participate in this event. This made her nervous again. If there indeed was someone here in this crowd who had less than good intentions, that meant, to her at least, that there was eventually going to be a fight. "Do...do you think we'll have to do some fighting?" she asked him nervously. Sassi had never liked fighting, and she was hoping to avoid them now.

Verus finished writing out the application, using as little personal info as he could and mainly just redirecting everything to the black rose guild, or using his alias information.  When he finished he handed it to the staff member who had approved his application and gave him the run down.  When that was finished he heard Sassi's concern that there would be fighting the two of them had to do.  He sat back down beside her, altering the sound waves to ensure others didn't hear them. "Nothing is guaranteed, as it never is in any world.  Everything changes and it's best to be ready for anything.  If your magic isn't suited for combat then I can try fighting for the both of us if we need to.  However I'll need to know what your magic actually does so that we don't end up getting in each other's way.  My magic is primarily illusions.  I can create false duplicates of myself that can also fight, and I can alter how the world is perceived by those around us.  Sight, sound, taste, touch, they can't rely on any of their senses.  Furthermore I can alter the physical world as well, so some of what they see and hear will be real, while others will not.  Beyond that magic I have two daggers and many throwing knives."

When Sassi replied to him, or rather after her reply, the doors would close and a staff member would clap her hands to get everyone's attention.  "Quiet everyone, please be quiet!  Welcome to Oak Inn's first annual Murder Mystery Night!  I'm so glad to see you all here tonight too~.  How this will work is as such:  Someone has committed a murder, and you will work in groups of two to four to find clues and figure out who is the murderer.  There will be clues hidden throughout the inn, and everyone will have to find them as groups.  There is only one of each clue, so when all clues are found the groups will need to work together by sharing clues with one another.  However, be careful who you share your clues with, as only one group can be the winner!  Everyone got that?  Aalllllrright then!  For the next twenty four hours, let the hunt begin!"

As the people began forming groups, Oras would look to Sassi.  "Let's get an idea of the layout for this inn.  It's always good to know where everything is.  We can split up or stick together, though with that cultist I would recommend sticking together."

Sassi listened to Verus's reply, and sighed to herself. Well...I guess I have to be prepared, then. she thought to herself. "Well, I use Blue FireFox magic, which is a type of fire magic, and it can be used to fight, but...well, it's, uh, triggered, by my emotions. I-If I get really scared, or, uh, if I lose my temper, my magic will activate. I only know a few spells though." she said. "I haven't learned how to fully control it though." she nervously added. Which is why I don't want to have to fight anyone. she thought to herself. She would fight if she had to, of course, but she hoped to high heaven that she wouldn't have to.

Sassi heard the doors close behind her. Then she heard the announcement that the Murder Mystery event had now begun, as well as the rules regarding the event. She heard Verus say that they should get a good layout of the inn and that they should stick together for safety. "Yeah, I agree." she said.

With the agreement made, they went around the building, exploring through every hall, room and such.  If there was a hidden entrance, Oras would see it.  Along the way he would go ahead and tell her the cultist's description.  "He looks average upon first glance.  Dark brown hair, green eyes.  One of those faces you would recognize but don't actually know.  Upon further observing however, you'll find a few oddities.  One being he has a scar, or tattoo, on the bottom right of his neck.  I couldn't make it out but it's there.  Judging from his expressions he's a very arrogant man, smirking and mocking others with his eyes.  He was wearing a black hoodie when he came in but he could have changed outfits to throw me off.  If you see him just tap me as discretely as possible.  We don't want to gain his attention.  And since your magic is hard to control, I'll try and handle the fighting when possible."

They walked into a room and found that no one was alone.  Oras scanned the area for anything of note when he spotted a candle stick on the wall.  When looking at the entire room in general one wouldn't notice anything off.  However upon close inspection, he noticed that the candle was leaning towards the wall a little.  Oras tried pulling very lightly on it and not only found that it was very firmly in place, but when he pulled a little harder he heard a click of gears starting to move.  He smiled and let go.  "That's one secret entrance discovered.  Amazing what people tend to miss from not observing more closely."  He fell silent as a group walked into the room, leading Sassi out while checking the faces of the people as they passed by them.  "Out of curiosity Sassi, did you come to Oak inn to participate in this event?  Is that why you were here?"

Sassi listened to Verus's description of the cultist as they walked around in the inn, keeping a mental note of the description for later. She watched Verus interact with a slightly crooked candle that, activated a secret entrance when her guildmate pulled on it. Sassi heard his comment about how amazing it was what people miss when they're not being observant, and shrugged. Though, she said nothing.

Sassi looked around while walking with Verus. Most of this inn was made of, not surprisingly, oak wood. She put her right hand on the wall, feeling the smooth coolness of it on the palm of her hand. She heard him ask her if she had come to Oak Town to participate in the event at the inn. "Yes. I-I was....well....more curious about it, than anything else. I didn't know anything about a cultist though." she replied. She silently hoped they wouldn't have to do battle with this cultist inside the inn, or if they would have to, that they could take the fight outside. Sassi was starting to get just a little cramped, although there was still a little bit of room to move around.

"That makes sense. Curiosity often draws many individuals to the unknown. Myself included. And to be honest no one knew about the cultist... And only a handful know about the cult in general, those being a village that was nearly destroyed, myself and one other. We're currently trying to track them down to their hideout. I was hoping this cultist would lead me to somewhere, whether it be a passage way, hideout, or just a meeting with someone else I could uncover clues from. We don't know their purpose at the moment, only that whatever it is they want requires a lot of magical energy." He continued to look around the rooms and hallways with Sassi, making sure to observe everything and to do so slower than usual. He could feel the fear emanating off of her from time to time so he felt like if he gave her something to watch, such as him showing her where things were and how to find them. Observance was a useful skill as both a utility and a way to keep oneself alive. Eventually they had covered the entire inn. Oras could recall every secret entrance, storage unit, etc.

"Looks like we've covered everything. We should probably switch our focus to finding the cultist now. It's almost been two hours now an-" He was cut off by a scream and he immediately switched to defensive mode, his face suddenly covered by a mask he created via illusion. He summoned his illusions to scout out the area and spotted a group looking at a fresh corpse in one of the rooms. He looked at Sassi. "Someone's been killed. This game just became real."

Sassi startled a little at a scream that sounded loud enough to be heard from where they were at, then her eyes widened in fear when she heard Verus say that the game just became real. "S-Seriously?" she managed to squeak out. She looked around, and tried to stay close to her guildmate. Anxiety welled up inside of her. Her hands started feeling hot, a sign that her magic could activate soon. She tried to calm herself down, but the anxiety didn't go away. She looked at some of the other groups, seeing their own anxious faces only made her more nervous. Now that this event wasn't just props and actors anymore, she wanted to go back to the Silver Moon Inn, but she couldn't just abandon her guildmate. I hope we don't find any more dead bodies. she thought nervously to herself. However much she wanted to avoid fighting, she knew that at some point both her and Verus would have to prepare to defend themselves.

Post by Oras Auro 13th July 2018, 6:18 am

Oras looked at her and her fear, and suddenly felt both concerned and bad that this was happening to her..  Then again if he hadn't come she'd be here alone the entire time.  "If you don't want to see it, then I can block it from your field of vision.  However I do need to inspect it so that I can find out what we're dealing with.  Stay close to me alright?  I swear nothing will happen to you."  With that he would move cautiously beside her to their destination, always ready for an attack from nowhere.  Eventually they would reach the crime scene.  If Sassi asked him to block the corpse from her view he would do just that, and she would see no corpse or blood.  If she asked him to not block it from view, then she would see a young man lying on the ground, pale and lifeless with a small pool of blood near the head.  Oras moved up to investigate, telling people to move away.  He knew the man was dead, no need to check for that.  What he checked for was....  He sighed.  The man's life force had been drained.  The blood only appeared after he fell face first onto the ground.  He turned to look at Sassi.  "Killed by magic..."

Suddenly a voice appeared in both Sassi and Oras' heads:  "Welcome, welcome, welcome my two dear wizards~  To the night you've all been waiting for!"  The voice was masculine and Oras didn't recognize it...  But he made a guess as to who it was and narrowed his eyes.  "Murder night!  Where you participate in finding out who the murderer is and catching them before they can do anything else!  Here are the rules:  Every two hours somebody dies unless you catch the murderer.  The walls doors and windows are magically sealed, preventing you from escaping until the murderer is in fact caught.  If you choose to slaughter these innocent people however, then we'll let you free anyways~  Ooohhh you'd better hurry though.  Every hour while waiting for the next victim, the murderer will be doing their best to turn the innocent against you.  I wonder, can you fight both the murderer and civilians?  Heh heh heh ha ha ha HA HA HA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"  The voice cut off.

Sassi heard Verus tell her that he would block the dead body from her field of vision if she wanted him to. Sassi always got nauseous at the sight of blood, so she was willing to let him block the sight of the corpses. "Y-You can block them, i-if you want." she replied. Then she heard a voice in her head, one that was full of malice. It stated that every two hours, someone would be killed, and her and her guildmate would have to find the killer, but also would have to deal with the other people, as the killer would be working to turn them against her and Verus. She wondered if this event was something the cultist used to bring her and Verus here. Either way, she was scared. The voice ended its words with a sinister and creepy laugh, which sent a chill up her spine.

Suddenly, Sassi heard someone say to her, "Are you the one? The one who killed this man?" She assumed this person was talking about the dead person. She turned to face this person. It was a middle-age woman, who was looking at her with intent to attack her. Sassi was so scared that her hands became engulfed in blue flames, and her eyes turned bright red. Her magic was now active, though she did not want to harm this woman.

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Oras saw the man question her and saw her flames starting to flare up. Oras used his magic so that the civilians would not see or hear her fire, so that they didn't seem aggressive when Sassi was only nervous. Oras walked over and placed an encouraging hand on her shoulder, hopefully bringing the fires down a bit. "No she wasn't. She was with me elsewhere and there wasn't enough time for us to run there from the crime scene and back again. Furthermore neither of our magic could have killed this man. My magic is defensive and physical attacks and hers is fire. This man had his life drained out. We may be looking for a necromancer of some sort." "So you two are wizards then?!" Someone cried out. "He could just as easily be lying about his magic!" "They could be in league with them!" "Get them! Get them now!" Suddenly there was a loud bang sound of something striking the floor. "Everyone calm down!" Everyone turned to see the chief of the village standing beside a guardsman. It was the guard who made the sound, having stomped his staff against the floor. "We can't lose our heads and automatically assume it was them! Now why don't we handle this in a rational-"

Suddenly someone charged at the two, wanting to tackle them so that others could tie them up. Oras acted quickly, using his telekinesis to alter the floor, causing him to trip. When the others attempted to grab him he put one hand over Sassi's eyes and another out towards them, creating a massive flash of light that temporarily blinded them all. Before they could recover he led Sassi down a secret passage they had found and made their way through the strange tunnel.
"It looks like we're going to have to prove our innocence. And the first step is to find out who did this and if they are the cultists, or if they were working with the cultists... This would be so much easier if people didn't live their lives filled with fear... The minute you let fear consume you is the day you lose yourself," he said quietly.

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by CodeNameVixen 17th July 2018, 1:20 am

Upon seeing Verus use his magic to make herself look like her magic was still dormant, Sassi's eyes began to flicker back and forth between bright red and her normal pale dark blue, and the blue flames engulfing her hands began to dissipate. Then her eyes became fully bright red, and her blue flames came back onto her hands when she heard the other people in the inn accuse her and her guildmate of being in cahoots with the cultist. But we're not with that madman! Why can't they see that? she thought to herself, feeling pretty frightened. Suddenly, she heard someone shout for everyone to calm down. She looked up to see a very important-looking man. She figured that from his appearance, he was some sort of leader. She heard him say that they basically shouldn't jump to conclusions and that everyone should deal with this situation in an orderly and rational way.

No one, except for maybe Sassi and Verus, listened to the man, however, and those people who accused them of helping the killer, charged at them. She felt Verus grab her, and cover her eyes. She couldn't see what he did, but that next moment, she felt him lead her down into some sort of passage. They stopped, and she listened as he stated that now they would have to prove themselves innocent, and find out who the cultist is, and find out if there are other cultists here as well. She also heard him say that this would be so much easier if people didn't live their lives in fear. "W-Well, if people were perfect, then, uh, there would be nothing to fear." she said. And I wouldn't have been born the 'family' I'm in. Sadly, we don't live in a perfect world. she thought forlornly to herself. As she calmed down, her eyes changed to their normal color, and the blue flames on her hands completely dissipated.

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by Oras Auro 17th July 2018, 10:56 am

Oras listened to her words and he nodded in, semi agreement. "Nothing is perfect, the very thought of perfection is an illusion in of itself.  However one has to learn how to overcome that fear at some point of their lives.  Otherwise they lose their free will.  A slave to their paranoia.  And in the end, when those people gave in to terror what good came of it?  They made it harder for us to find the real culprit, and gave the murderer another chance to kill again.  If they chose to control their fear and their thoughts, then that fear could be used to escape death when it came for them."  He shook his head.  "Nothing is true, everything is an illusion.  Yet people want to find some rhyme or reason to things.  Instead of feeling like they were powerless, they wanted to pin the blame on us so that they felt they at least knew who the murderer was.  Doing so blinded them."  He used his magic to create light in the hidden passage, brightening it up so that they could both see very clearly.  He thought for a moment as they stood there.  "We should probably start working on solving this however.  Talking about people and their mistakes won't solve anything.  They have to have a hiding place somewhere, or at least I'd assume that.  Perhaps there's another passage within these passages..."

With that he continued to walk down the passage way, leading her through the tunnels.  He turned to her curiously, thinking about how her fire had erupted the way it had.  "...You really meant it when you said how you have no control over your magic, didn't you?" He asked softly.  He thought about it for a moment.  She was a guild mate who was trying to survive, just like he and Amora had been..  He wondered how she'd feel to have a sparring partner.  Perhaps the two could help each other out via training.....  Of course he needed to see how open she was to a mentor first. "May I ask how you plan to master it?"

Sassi listened to Verus's reply. She agreed with what he said, but she also knew better than to judge others based on how they handle their fear. It wasn't their business anyway. She saw her guildmate light up the room they were in with his magic, and she listened to him as he stated that those other people should have hiding places somewhere. She also heard him state that there's a possibility that there could be another passage somewhere. She watched him look around for one, until he found another passageway, and she followed him as he led her through it.

While they were walking through the passage, Sassi saw Verus turn his head back towards her and comment that she meant it when she said that she hadn't learned how to control her magic completely. She silently nodded in response. She then heard him ask how she planned to master it.

Sassi thought about her answer for a moment. "I-I don't really know. I, uh, I guess I never found anyone who could help me, after I left my home...before joining Black Rose." she replied.

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by Oras Auro 18th July 2018, 10:22 am

He listened to her as she explained to him how she didn't know how she intended to go about gaining control over the magic.  How hadn't found anyone who could help me..  Then he heard the part about leaving her home.  He turned to look at her in the eyes, since his mask was gone now that they were away from everyone.  She left her home?  He'd need to ask her later, if she came to trust him more.  Oras never really left his home, more like forced to leave due to it being completely burned down to the very dirt.  If she left her home, it was either kicked out, forced out like he was, or perhaps she was running for someone or something.  He wouldn't press for the moment however.  She also implied that there wasn't a very long period of time between her leaving and joining the guild.  He nodded in understanding and thought about this for a moment, wondering how to proceed.  "..Well, I know someone who has a similar issue, though more drastic.  She has flames she is attempting to control as well, though it affects her far more than yours seems to affect you.  If you were interested, I could try and help you learn to control your flames.  I don't know how successful I would be at it but there's no harm in trying."

He continued to walk down the path, looking for some sort of secondary passage way.  As they walked they could hear people walking and running on the other side of the wall, back and forth.  Oras ignored it as he was keeping the two of them and anything they said silent outside the passage way.  As they walked they reached the end of the passage way.  No additional secrets it appeared.  He used his magic to check the other room and see if anyone or anything was in there.  Nothing.  He opened the door and stepped out.  "There's another passage way down the hall.  Let's go ahead and check that one."

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by CodeNameVixen 19th July 2018, 12:51 am

Sassi stopped walking, as she saw Verus look her directly in her eyes. Feeling fairly uncomfortable at being given direct eye contact, her eyes shifted around nervously, and she just rubbed her left forearm in silence, not knowing what to say. She then felt relief when he nodded in understanding to her, and turned away. She allowed her body to relax then, and listened when he told her about him knowing someone with fire magic who also had trouble controlling their fire.

Sassi's eyes then blinked in surprise when she heard him offer to help her master her Blue FireFox magic. Could he really help her? Part of her wanted to accept his offer, feeling the need to learn more about how to handle her magic, but another part of her was skeptic about this. Would he actually the best person to help her control her magic better? After all, it was quite clear that his magic was very different from hers, not that that was a bad thing. But could he really help her? She didn't really know what the answer to that would be. She had to admit, Verus seemed to be a nice guy. He was friendly, but kept his distance, and gave her the space she needed. He was also quiet, like her, although he wasn't necessarily shy either. Perhaps, for now, she would wait on giving him her answer to his offer.

They started moving around again, looking for another passage. Sassi heard some voices, presumably from those other people in the inn, though she tried to ignore them. She saw Verus open a door, and they stepped through. She then heard him say that there was another passage down the hall, and that they should check it out. She nodded silently in response, and followed him.

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by Oras Auro 25th July 2018, 8:55 pm

Oras noted how she said nothing at all and nodded. She was cautious, and that was a good thing. By not rushing into things and taking the time she had to consider all aspects, she would be more safe than others. Though, that also made Oras wonder what caused her to become this cautious in the first place. Oras had a traumatic experience as a child and a very strict and harsh mentor. She appeared young and most young individuals were reckless, rash, tending to get themselves into trouble over and over again until they had learned what the value of caution truly was. He couldn't figure it out just yet, but he wished to find out.... However there was something he needed to be wary of. If he had learned anything from that wizard who could summon beings to aid him, Ruvel, it was that sensitive subjects could create hatred towards him if he acted or spoke out of curiosity. If she found out he was investigating her past then that could shatter any chance he had at befriending her. So he would need to go the hard route: He would need to try and befriend her, and earn her trust, to the point where she would share with him what her past was. He may have to tell her his own past which was why this was the hard route. He never told anyone anything about himself to that level. She would have to earn his trust as well. "Let me know if you have any questions, or if you have an official answer ok? No need to rush it after all. And you're wise to be cautious, it's a useful survival skill. No matter how you look at it."

He led her across the hall, using his magic to keep an eye out for any civilian or any other unsavory individuals. He couldn't see anything at first, but.. Something was off. He had a gut feeling that there was something he couldn't see or sense, despite his magic giving him the ability to hear and see everything around him. His instinct practically screamed to him the word up, and he didn't even look. He leaped into the air behind Sassi, grabbing onto the wizard clad in black cloak hood and mask (who was diving down to attack her), and pushed the attacker back, taking a defensive position upon landing. Oras was now standing between Sassi and the attacker. His face was concealed with a black and red mask, his body covered in black clothing and a strange cloak. He was wielding a longsword which Oras felt he should have noticed. The man charged at Oras and was surprisingly fast.. But Oras was able to reduce his speed before he could reach him and began to attack the man with equally vicious ferocity. Oras had drawn his daggers and summoned his duplicates, but didn't use his magic to alter the world, fearing he might accidentally hit Sassi. His three physical illusions fought with him against the attacker, who quickly realized he was outnumbered and.. Vanished. One second he was there one second he wasn't. Oras dispelled his illusions as he heard the citizens approaching quickly. "Come on, into the tunnel."

Once they were inside the secret passage he would relay his current theory to her. "From what I could tell, that individual wasn't actually a wizard, or else they could have stood up to me longer. I think he was simply using magical items. A sword and cloak that can't be detected and render the wielder invisible to any form of sense. A teleport ring of some sort. My guess is that they are a trained assassin who's been hired by the cultists for.. One reason or another. At any rate it hasn't been two hours yet, so he was targeting us for a very specific reason."

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by CodeNameVixen 3rd August 2018, 7:44 pm

Sassi heard Verus tell her that if she had any questions at all about his offer to help her with her magic in any way, he'd be happy to answer them. "I appreciate that." she said, although she had no real questions at the moment for him. She was still plenty unsettled by this event, or booby trap that it now seemed to be. She continued to follow her guildmate as they continued to search for clues leading to who and where the killer, also known as the cultist, was.

Sassi followed Verus across the hall. She could sense that he was using his magic, though his magic levels still felt a bit wonky to her. Then she saw him leap up and over her head, her eyes growing wide with surprise. She turned around, as she heard him land and saw him grab someone in a black cloak.

Sassi had no idea who this stranger was, only that he looked ominous, with his hooded black cloak, and a black and red mask covering his face. She saw this person holding a longsword, and she gulped nervously. She saw the mysterious man charge at Verus with his longsword, and was frightened. Thankfully, it seemed Verus was able to reduce the attacker's speed and fight back just as strongly. Suddenly, the man disappeared, and she was able to breath a sigh, albeit shakily, of relief. She then silently followed Verus into another passage.

Sassi heard Verus tell her what he figured out about that man who had attacked them; that he was a trained assassin, using magical items to protect himself and harm them, and that he was sent by the cultist to specifically target the two of them, despite the fact that two hours hadn't passed yet. "S-So, that cultist definitely wants us dead." she softly replied, her anxiety growing. "Do you think...that this whole...event was just a...a trap?" she asked nervously.

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by Oras Auro 10th August 2018, 11:00 am

"It's possible," he told her in response to her question, referring to how this entire event might have been a trap. "However I doubt that this was meant to be a trap for us.. It's too last minute to have set everything up. I started following them after this event was being created. It doesn't line up.. I wonder, if there was someone in the staff who was planning to commit a murder from the beginning. Who was already setting something up. I'm guessing that the cultists caught wind of this and made some sort of deal with the murderer. I don't believe the assassin was the killer however. Whoever was the murderer will be undercover. The cloaked figure is hunting us specifically, while the murderer is picking out their next victim. For one reason or another that is." He placed a hand to his chin under the mask, thinking carefully. If it was a staff member, then who exactly? The receptionist? The manager? Butlers, maids. Servers? Janitors? Someone who worked with storage and luggage? Security guards? It could be anyone, they needed more clues. He looked at Sassi again and took his mask off, lowering himself to his knee so that he could talk to her eye to eye. "Sassi I need you to make me a promise ok? Stay with me. And be brave. We may have to fight together, side by side. And you may have to use your magic as well. Don't be afraid about using it either, I can keep the place from burning down. If you are in danger, you use your magic. I'll handle the rest ok?"

He wasn't the best at it, but he was trying to be as comforting as he could be. Once he had received a response from her he would stand up again. "Alright... We need a way to blend in with the crowd to get more information. I'm going to cast an illusion on us ok? That way we'll look like normal civilians and not wizards. No one will recognize our faces or voices. Stay close to me, and we should be fine."

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by CodeNameVixen 10th August 2018, 12:05 pm

Sassi listened to Verus as he told her that it was a possibility, but still doubted that was it was and that the cultist was simply taking advantage of this whole thing, and that this event could've been something set up by someone who was actually planning a real murder. She also heard him say that whoever was the real murderer would be undercover. Sassi's heart skipped a beat in fear. So the murderer could be anyone in this event. she thought nervously to herself. She then wondered who that cloaked man was. Was he the cultist, or an assassin the cultist hired to kill us? she thought to herself.

Sassi then saw Verus stop walking, and kneel down to her eye level. She listened as he told her to make him a promise to stay with him, and to be brave. She listened to him as he told her, that there might be some battles here, and she would have to use her magic. She felt like she had just swallowed her tongue as her anxiety and nervousness grew stronger. She relaxed only a little when he told her that he would make sure that the inn wouldn't burn down if she did have to use her magic.

Sassi still didn't like the idea of having to do battle with anyone, and yet, she felt safe with Verus. Maybe it was because he was her guildmate, but she felt he would protect her. This was a foreign concept to her, as she had never felt safe around anyone before.

Sassi tried her hardest to swallow back her growing anxiety, and looked at Verus. "O-Okay. I-I promise. I'll do the best I can." she replied. She listened as he told her that they would need to blend in. She then watched him stand back up and use his magic to make them look like different people. Sassi silently hoped this worked.

Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light Empty Re: Work in the Shadows, to Serve the Light

Post by Oras Auro 18th August 2018, 8:46 am

Oras activated his magic, making Sassi look like a completely different person (same size though) and he did the same with himself. He also took off his mask and hood, but again, he wouldn't look at all the same way. His hair was black, and would appear to be cut and trimmed, even groomed. His eyes would look like they were brown, not his usual color. He would look less strong and more average, and appeared to be wearing an average shirt. He would look like he had recently got off of work, took off his suit, and came into the inn. Even their voices would be changed. With that they exited the tunnels and went to look for people to talk with. Oras lead her into another room where there seemed to be a small group of people. One of which appeared to be a maid. Good, a staff member. That would help this investigation very well. He gave Sassi a comforting glance before they made their way to the group, and Oras would put on a false face that he was stressful... While also furious. "I can't believe this is happening!" He said, gaining the attention of the other individuals. He wasn't yelling it but the frustration was evident in his voice. "I'm supposed to be relaxing after a hard days work, not at the mercy of some murderer! It looks as if the manager here doesn't have a sense of 'safety' or 'security'." One of the people turned to look and speak to him

"It's kind of hard to defend yourself against someone with magic though.." "Then you hire a wizard as a security guard!" The maid raised her hand. "Um.. I do believe we were doing tha-" "Yes you were," Oras said back, letting the false frustrations drip with a bit of sarcasm. "I saw your so called 'hiring' in fact. All you did was have random wizards fill out a sheet, give it to the desk and they had the job! For all we know you could have let a dark wizard into this place! Oh wait, you did! Someone's dead now and who knows who's next?!" The maid looked a little nervous at this point and one of the others stepped in, his hands in the air. "Calm down, she didn't do anything she's just a maid! She doesn't have any say in it. I agree with you, though we should probably speak to the manager about it." Oras made it seem like it took a bit of effort to calm down before sighing and crossing his arms. "Very well then... Ma'am do you know where I can find your manager? I have a few words to say to him." "U-um.. He's in his office. It's probably on lockdown now though, since his life is in danger." Oras threw his arms into the air. "Of course he is! While the rest of us are in danger he's cowering in his corner all safe and secure!" He said, storming out of the room. "Come on Andrea." he said to Sassi. "We're going to have a little chat with the manager, whether he likes it or not!"

As soon as they were out of sight and earshot, Oras would drop the aggressive stance and would talk with Sassi. "So the manager is hiding in fear for his own life, despite the fact that everyone else is in danger.. There are two possibilities here. Either he's being targeted specifically and knows it. Or he's a coward. We won't know that until we speak to more staff members..." He turned to Sassi. "By the way.. Sorry about the aggressiveness you saw in there. Sometimes you have to pull on a show like that to get the right information."

Sassi silently followed Verus as they walked into a room with a maid and other people who both may and/or work at the inn. She saw him give her a comforting glance, and then watched him as he acted like just an aggravated guest who was frustrated at the whole situation and yelled at the maid for not having good enough judgement in hiring wizards as security. She silently admitted to herself that she thought he was a very good actor, and would've been convinced if it weren't for the fact that she knew he was just acting.

Sassi heard one of the strangers defend the maid, saying that as a maid, she didn't really have much choice in the matter and was just doing what she was told. When she heard Verus ask where the manager was, one of the strangers replied that said manager had locked himself up in his office in order to save his own skin. She silently followed Verus as he led 'Andrea' away with him over to the manager.

They entered a more private room away from the other guests, and they stopped walking. Sassi saw Verus drop back into his more normal stance, and she listened to him as he told her that he thought there were two possibilites. One was that either the manager was being targeted by the killer and is aware of it, or he's just a dirty coward who only cares about his own safety and no one else's. Then she heard him say that they won't know anything more until they can get more information from the inn's other staff members.

Sassi then saw Verus turn around and face her. She listened as he apologized for his behavior, as he was simply putting on a act for the other people here in the inn. She just smiled a tiny bit, and gently shook her head. "No, it's okay. I, uh, kinda' knew you were acting." she replied.

Sassi then put on a more serious face. "So...uh, where do we go now?" she asked.
