Nessa sat outside the bathroom on the floor, I need to do something about my wet clothes She hadn't brought a change of clothes. She had figured this wouldn't be necessary as it wasn't an overnight stay. Sighing, she closed her eyes, feeling the energy stirring within her, Starlight come to me She felt it grow inside her, building up. She push it outwards, through her pores, allowing it to rest under her skin.
"Starlight protega." She whispered, the magic released, forming an aura around her. A warm glow spreading throughout her body. She adjusted the heat, making it warm enough to rid her body and clothes of the excess moisture. She stayed light this for a period, opening her eyes. She heard the door click open next to her, and Henry wrapped in a towel stepped out. He looked at her in surprise, his jaw dropped at the sight of her glowing in light.
"Here, pass me your clothes, I'll dry them." Nodding he went back into the bathroom and collecting his wet clothes. Placing them in her arms,
"You're warm," He said with a smile. She smiled pack at him, holding his clothes close so they would warm up and dry.
"Why don't you put on your pyjamas. She suggested, nodding he ran off in the direction of his room. He seems calmer now, She thought, he was so angry before. He was shockingly violent for his age, pushing her back into the tub with such force. She narrowing missed cracking her head open against the edge, luckily she had redirected herself towards the water to prevent that. Somehow she had terrific luck. He was strong for his age too, that was dangerous. If he continued down a destructive path, the child was certain to grow into a bad egg.
Once she was certain both she and Henry's clothes were dry, she stood up dispersing the magic as she did so. It shattered into flickers of light, and disappearing upwards through the ceiling. No doubt making it's way back to the stars where it belong.
She began to walk in the direction of Henry's room, "Henry, are you dressed?" She called out. She checked her watch once more, it was so much later than she realised, it was already 8:10pm. She heard him shuffling around behind a door to the right. Walking over to it, she knocked three times.
"Come in," She heard his little voice call, smiling softly, she pushed the door open. He was sat on his bed. Wearing a set of blue and white striped pyjamas. He looked so young. She walked over to him, picking up the towel off of the floor, she folded on a chair next to the bed.
"Would you like a story? Where do you keep your books?" She asked, she looked around for books to read.
"I don't have any books," He said quietly looking down,
"You don't? Then what bedtime stories do you like."
"I'm not allowed bedtime stories anymore, Daddy said I had too many books about magic, he burned them." Nessa felt a chill run down her spine, no wonder her parents weren't very welcoming of her. She was surprised they even let a mage take care of their child, they must have been desperate.
"You're parents hate magic don't they?" Henry nodded at her, "Do you hate magic?" She asked, he looked up at her, before shaking his head.
"I like your magic, it's pretty." She smiled, this boy wasn't bad, he was just needed change. She could feel the magical energy buried deep inside of him, small but growing. Supressed by his lack of acceptance. One day it was going to burst out of him, what form it would take who knew.
"Well why don't I just tell you a story off the top of my head. Come on get under the covers, " He did as she had instructed, snuggling under the blankets and pulling them up to his chin. Listening intently, she folded the towel in her lap.
"Once upon a time there were two girl, they were twins. But they didn't look alike one had green eyes, the other black. They both had long white hair that flowed all the way down and both were very pretty. They were both born with extroadinary magical power, Cordelia was born with magic that could heal and Antionette light that could harm. Together they were a formidable pair, as time went on their grew strong. So strong that they didn't need eachother anymore. The fighting twin wanted to join to remain guildess and become stronger, the other wanted to join a guild and save people. So the girls went their seperate ones. The Antionette became strong, revered even, people went to her regularly to fight off the bad guys. One day, she was asked to go on a mission against a dark guild. So she did, and during battle who did she find, but none other than her sister. Healing the members of the dark guild. She was furious, she couldn't believe her sister would help people like that. Her sister insisted that they needed her, that without her things would be much worse. The fighting girl left the battle, and called off the mission. Many years passed, Antoinette met a man and fell in love. Before she knew it was was withchild, however things with the man didn't work out. He left her during her pregnancy, she had no one. It was only were she went into labour, trapped in her home, unable to call for help. Her sister burst thruogh the door, without a word, Cordelia helped her give birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy. Afterwards, the sister caught up, Cordelia told Antionette that she too had met a man and fallen in love, and had a daughter herself. Antoinette was shocked to hear this, but glad her sister was back in her life. Cordelia had given up working for the guild and just wanted to live a quiet life. More time went on, and everything seemed to be okay. Cordelia daughter was fourteen years of age, that dark time seemed far behind her. Until, one day their village was attacked, houses were burning, people were running. Cordelia's husband was away travelling at the time, so the sister and the children were alone. The sisters stepped out into the fray, only to discover it was Cordelia's old guild attacking the town. Together they battled the guild, it seemed they were losing. Alone they could not defeat their magic, but when they finally combined their spells. Together they created a magic so powerful they defeated all of the baddies. And the village was saved. The end."
Nessa who had been staring into space looked over at Henry, he was looking at her, eyes drifting off. "I like that story," He said sleepily,
"Me too," Nessa replied softly,
"Goodnight Nessa,"
"Night Henry," She watched as he closed his eyes. She got off the bed and made her way out into the hall. Sleep, tick. And with five minutes to spare. She left the room, shutting the door quietly behind her. What Henry didn't know is that they story was the story about her mother and aunt. She had been there that night, holding her cousin in her arms, shielding him from the site. Watching from the window. She had watched as her mother and aunt fought, she had seen their incredible display of power. And she had watched as her mother collapsed to the ground. Her mother died later that nights, her wounds so great not even she could heal them.
Nessa proceeded to clean up the house, and was waiting in the living room when the Spiels returned. They stumbled in clearly merry, they did not look nearly as neat as when they left.
"So everything went ok girl?" The husband asked,
"He was lovely,"
"Dinner, bath and bed?" The wife asked suspiciously, Nessa nodded, "Really? How did you get him to bath?" Nessa smiled pleasantly,
"I told him it was for me," She said honestly, the couple stared at her for a moment before bursting into laughter.
"Alright we'll send your payment over tomorrow,"
"Thank you very much, goodnight," With that Nessa left their home, sighing with relief as she reached the gate. She hoped that Henry would turn okay, the kid was naughty and violent in nature, but all he really needed was guidance. She wondered if she would ever see him again and what he'd be like. Who knows, maybe in the future, we'll be friends, she thought, giggling to herself as she said about heading home.
