    Job Info:

Before leaving to get his passport, Vincent had grabbed two job requests from the guild’s board. They were ranked D, the lowest possible rank as far as Vincent knew. This was perfect for him since he had only recently become a full-fledged wizard and thus was not powerful enough to even think of attempting some of the higher ranked missions. That said, though, he still wanted the opportunity to test out the result of years of rigorous magical practice and study which had gotten him to this point. Vincent knew that the second job he was chose would give him the opportunity to test out the aforementioned years of study, so he didn’t mind waiting a little longer to do so by helping some old farmer with his crops. The pay was relatively good and that was all that Vincent really cared about due to the ever-present cost of magical materials to perform his experiments.

The trek from Rose Garden to Era was a long one, but thankfully the farmhouse in question happened to be on the path he was taking into the city. Vincent’s eyes looked instinctively towards the farmhouse which was made entirely out of wooden planks and beams. Over the front door was a slanted wooden overhang which extended out and could be seen to cover not just the front porch but also the sides of the house. There was a second floor and a roof with a steep slant painted a mute blue. Windows took up most of the area of the wooden walls which faced him.

Without taking any more time to admire the beautifully crafted farmhouse, Vincent walked up and knocked on the door. A short amount of time passed before an old man came out and greeted him. ”Why hello there young man. I take it you’re sent here from one of the guilds?” he said, gesturing with his arm for Vincent to come inside. Vincent gladly stepped into the modestly decorated home and followed the man into his living room. ”What gave it away? Well, aside from the two rolled up job requests sticking out of my pocket.” ”I’ve met enough non-mages to tell you that anyone capable of using magic has a certain… ‘presence’ about them. That, and I don’t know who you are. Out here in the countryside, there are maybe two or three people every few acres – so you really get to know your neighbors. They’re the only one that you really see, after all.”

”That’s fair enough. You’re right, though. I am a mage from a guild, specifically Crystal Swan. I’m a newer mage, so I figured that helping out an old farmer would be a good way of getting my feet wet.” ”Old? Who are you calling old!” he said, looking visibly upset. ”I’m just playin’. I know that the years are catching up to me. As you read in the request, I’m going to be retiring soon and I’ll be moving with my wife to a quiet little house on the edge of the Rose Garden. Before I put you to work, would you mind showing me some of your magic? It’s not every day that I get to meet a mage and it’s always a nice surprise to see what each one is capable of.”

Vincent sighed in relief knowing that he didn’t actually offend his employer. He thought the request odd, though was more than happy to test out the results of his work a little earlier than he anticipated. Without much preparation he conjured up his black book entitled “The Dark Arts and You” and said: “Black souls from the abyss lend me your power so that I may finish this work in less than an hour!” After his incantation, four black orbs floated out of the book and took the form of silhouettes with humanoid upper bodies and a wispy tail instead of a lower body.

The farmer clapped at the display. ”Nicely done. Don’t worry, the crops shouldn’t take too long to plant with our new farmhands.” After explaining the task to Vincent and apologizing for not introducing himself earlier, Roy led Vincent to the shed where he keeps his seed bags and hoes. While normally one would have to manually till all eight rows of soil, Vincent’s apparitions made quick work of the manual task. Although he created them for primarily combat purposes, they seemed to prove handy for manual labor. A job that would normally take an unpleasant amount of time and effort was reduced to one which took only half an hour and required no real work on the part of Vincent. He and Roy simply spoke as his ghouls did all of the hard work. Once they were done tilling, planting the seeds, and watering the ground, Vincent called them back into his tome which he stored back in his sanctum for future use. Roy thanked him for his assistance and with the payment received, Vincent made his way to the location of his next job – the Beanstalk Village.
