    farming

It seemed like he had returned home, the childhood he had experienced had been full of craftsmen and farmers. Farming had been a stable part of his training along with florist work, perhaps that was why he had taken the job. Mind switched over to what he had to do. Boots had softly scuffed down the dirt road when he approached the farmhouse. Helping out an elderly farmer who had retirement plans wasn’t too bad as jobs went, helping someone whilst also earning money had indeed been a strong incentive.
‘AYE lad, you the wandering mage we hired?’  The voice had called out to me from the stables. His gruff sound meant that he had been old , it must have been the farmer he had been hired to help. Wondered over Lester relaxed against the wooden wall, “Are you the one who requested the job”
It had turned out that indeed the voice had come from the one who hired Lester. It hadn’t been a few seconds before the elderly man had asked the younger male to help with carrying things. He had been happy to, the bags of seeds felt rough and heavy, but soon he had two over each shoulder and trudged to the fields.

A simple task, one many had often disregarded as it had been considered too easy. Perhaps, too easy for a wandering mage, to simplistic a job this had seemed. Not every job had requirements of fighting monsters and saving maidens. Lester had understood that and enjoyed it immensely, not having to put oneself into danger had been a focus point for his life and would continue to be a focus point until he had been laid into the ground. He had gotten time to think about thinks, he enjoyed manual labour for that exact reason that it had given him time to have thoughts on the world around him.
Perhaps had it gotten to a time where he had to start on offensive magic? No, he had banished the thought due to the impracticality of it. Lester had always known that he was a support magic user. Had he ever been of use in a fight though?

Moved forward to seed planting the ruts in the dirt had been dug earlier by apprentices presumably, his task had seemed simple, all he had to do was slowly pour seeds into the dip in the earth. The youth took a moment's break and wiped off a thin layer of sweat, it sounded simple, the bags had been heavy though. Started again a bag in hand he had slowly moved backwards, seeds sprinkled down like they had been a summer shower of rain drops. The sun had warmed him softly, but luckily lester hadn’t been roasted by it due to the soft winds which swept through once in awhile. HIs scarf had been secured around his waist over some old clothes he had borrowed. To remove any possibility of needless washing he had taken to simplicity and worn shorts and a vest. The decision had been a good once, dirt seemed to be clumped up around his boots so the young man had to tap if off.

The hot part of the day had passed, a few pest bugs had emerged and would have nibbled happily on the mage if he hadn’t used his knowledge of floral plants to keep them away. Kindly the farmer's wife had let him take a few stalks of lavender which he had promptly rubbed along his arms. Lavender had the properties to keep away mosquitoes and similar biting bugs.
The fields had been finished, he had mentally passed the time mentally when he planned the future and followed his memories  by remembering the training. This way Lester had made sure to remember important facts while he had worked manually. Surely this had also increased his physical capabilities a little.

    “Mister? The fields are finished.”
The youth sounded like he had been feeling, completed and happy of the work which had been done. As he handed me a drink the farmer grinned. His voice sounded a little more gravelly than it had earlier ‘thank ye for today boy, you’ve been helpful’  he had motioned to the reward on a nearby table.
The mage could have taken the reward and just left, but the farmer offered me a a seat on the porch, the sun had started to sink a little. He had taken a seat next to the farmer, the man started to speak of his life, perhaps it had been caused by growing elderly or had he lived a lonely life? Lester listened out of interest, a comment added here and there, jokes had been made. Before he had realized it the sun had set.
The day had been eventful, and he had been offered a spare bed for the night which the youth had gratefully accepted.
