Post by Mythal Ragnos 11th December 2018, 2:45 pm

    Spoiler:

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

What had seemed like a simple job had spun into an entire series of jobs, each more treacherous than the last. And they had only taken part in two of them; now it seemed the leader of these hunters had yet another one ready and waiting for them, if they chose to take it. But this one wasn’t as simple as neither the first one nor the second one, though the jury was still out on that most recent expedition. It seemed like the part of this hunt was to locate the nest of vampires and put them down for good. This wasn’t some easy job, following some map or hidden trail that would lead them right to the blood sucker’s home. No, it seemed they had to find another vampire first and force him to lead them to the lair. No small or easy task surely.

After the last job, she had offered them the opportunity to possess some weapons from their forge master, crafted from the bodies of those that Markus had killed. To Mythal, it seemed that meant that bones and claws would be used to create some kind of amalgamation of a weapon. Not exactly his cup of tea. But upon looking – or well, partly looking – at the glowing silver swords they had worked to bless, the God Slayer had demanded that one of them be gifted to him. There was a look of hesitance on the woman’s face and she seemed ready to explain why she and her hunters deserved the blade more than he. But he was quick to cut her off; Markus and he had worked harder than they were led to believe to protect them from an outright massacre. As far as he was concerned, both of them had earned a blade – though Markus seemed to be lacking any interest in taking one. While it did glow as bright as the moon above them, it only mildly bothered Mythal. It was interesting to see just how different their magic was, while also still of the same strain.

In the end, they had agreed and Mythal had taken a single gnarled claw from what was left of a were beast and asked that it be added to the pommel. With one of the weapons designated for him and taken away for work, the plan was laid out for the rest of the hunt. Two parties were to be formed – one consisting of Mythal and Markus and the other of the four hunters who had half played guard in the cemetery. Each one would be armed with one of the glowing blades and tasked with finding a vampire and bringing him to heel long enough to question him.

And so they set out. Mythal offered to take the blade, shoving it within a borrowed scabbard so its light wouldn’t hinder Markus. "You know, here I thought ‘hey, one job and done,” Mythal commented, walking through the dark woods beside the other Slayer. "Boy that went out the window.”

Markus cocked his head after listening to the woman speak. This job had certainly gotten much more… intense than the mage had originally expected. However, he did not argue with the leader. After all, they had been paid and paid well for the work they had provided so far. Each extension to this job just meant more Jewels for the two mages, and more time Markus could put off his return to the guild…

Upon listening to her speak of the weapons they would forge for the mages Markus raised an eyebrow, but kept his questions to himself. The chaos mage certainly had plans for the weapon, and as such he reach down starting to sort through and grab various bones and remains, apathetically ignoring the blood and gore which came from such a task.  As he worked he listened to the rest of the conversation, and due to his slayer senses he had no issue listening to the other mage request that they leave with one of the holy silvered swords. Once more the mage glanced over at the swords. Although their glow was light, and hardly noticeable he could feel their power, their aura. He once more looked away.

The dark mage had absolutely no desire to ever touch one of those blades, he could feel the chaos in his system reacting to the aura. Chaos as always abhorred creation, it did not matter whether the being was Holy or Demonic, Creation or Destruction, the Primordial, and by extension her Progeny felt desire to end such creatures. Still he knew the use of such an item, assuming it was Mythal that was using the weapon.

In the end, Markus was surprised to see the woman given in to his request. The argument Mythal made was sound, after all the two mages had certainly done most of the work AND, if they wanted the mages to hunt these vampires they would need something which could actually damage the creatures. Markus shrugged when the other mage offered to take the blade, after all Markus wanted nothing to do with it.

“Isn’t that the truth, well we noticed from the beginning that something seemed off about this job.” Markus said looking towards the other mage. He was not surprised to find that Mythal agreed with him, this job was certainly getting hectic. “Well, at least we get plenty of jewels, and a very nice set of weapons.” The chaos mage said looking down at the weapon now within a sheath.

Markus was glad it was hidden now within the leather.

“Well, any ideas on how to find this nest?”
    Markus asked inquisitively.

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Markus was right; something had felt off about this entire ordeal practically from the get go. The hunters, the odd package grab job, the sudden appearance of a vampire in the house – all of it reeked of something far more complicated. And now they were stuck in the middle of it, having annoyed the lord of the manor by taking his book and then having fought off a fair number of creatures that had tried to delay them further. It was honestly more than the God Slayer liked to get involved in but, the jewel was acceptable and now he would have a weapon that he could possibly sell or pawn off for something better. It wasn’t like he had thought of a better option – yet.

"Doesn’t really excuse all the mess though. This isn’t just a job now; we’re puttin’ our lives on the line for people we just met,” he said, trying to sound as bitter as possible. But in the end, he knew that came with certain jobs. There would be escort jobs, defense jobs and other such ones that would directly require their bodies being thrown before danger to save another. Normally, Mythal probably wouldn’t have minded. But these hunters were… uncaring. Not even when it came to the things they hunted but seemingly towards them as well. It was like they were merely tools, meant to be used against their enemies. The God Slayer didn’t play that way, not one bit.

He stopped mid-stride, scratching his chin in thought. Finding the nest wasn’t going to be easy; arguably finding a vampire may be harder. They hadn’t held back in throwing all their minions at them but now that the ritual was over, their only real option was to bide their time. Surely they wouldn’t be coming out of their tombs or coffins or homes…

Homes – that sparked an idea. "The house,” he muttered, his eyes widening slightly with the thought. "Where we got the book. They need us to find a vampire and where have we seen one recently?” He shrugged and let loose a small smirk. "Why not go see if our grumpy friend is still mad about us takin’ his book?” Counting that Markus agreed with the idea, Mythal would turn in the direction they had once traveled and started heading that way.

But even before he could truly begin the path with the Chaos mage, a bone-shaking howl screeched through the air. It was two beastly bellows rising up together, a pair that wasn’t very far off at all. "Guess they ain’t waiting for us to come to them,” Mythal grumbled as he focused his magic out from his core, preparing for the attacks to come.

Cocking his head the chaos mage gave a curt nod. He completely agreed, this entire ordeal had been a mess, and far more dangerous than the job had initially stated. Yet, that was sometimes the job. With a sign Markus was contemplating when the other mage spoke once more.

He had a good idea, the vampire they had left might still be available, and if that was the case then this could be solved rather quickly. Glancing one more at the blade Markus knew the other age would be using that very shortly. Though, that did not mean Markus was not without skills of his own. Signing deeply, Markus prepared to join the other slayer on the track back to the abandoned house.

However, before he had even taken a step he started to hear rustling in the trees and more of the deep seated howls. Looking forward Markus watched as a group of wolves once more entered the clearing. He could see this was probably the rest of the pack they had just dealt with. Markus saw at least 4 maybe five of the same creatures they had dealt with previously, werewolf’s crouched in their wolf form. However, within the forest the chaos mage could see something else, two more were creatures, wolves. Watching the chaos mage came to a realization that the others were different, larger, faster, stronger. He briefly wondered if they were ‘majora’ werewolves who were born with the curse rather than changed.

The chaos mage never got his answer, for his thoughts were cut short as the creatures charged. Stepping forward the mage watched as the creatures charged, with a nod back at his partner the chaos mage dived into the fray opening his hands Markus ripped into the void. Suddenly ten pinpricks of pure darkness appeared around the mage, holes in the fabric of space and time. Each of these orbs followed Markus, remaining just around him, certain to not get in his way. As he stepped forward, and dodged one of the minor wolves the holes suddenly shifted, opening for a split second into shifting windows clearly showing Chaos’ Domain. From each of these rips a beam of pure darkness launched out at various enemies before the holes closed once more, as if never having opened. Around the chaos mage lay 3 of the wolves, torn to shreds by the chaotic bolts.

Stepping forward Markus sized up one of the larger creatures. With a wicked grin the mage once more sidestepped the attack, it would be almost as if once a creature got within a certain range they would slow massively, becoming a shadow of their former speed and might. With a wave of his hand Markus sent another bolt of energy into the werebeast, slaying another of the monsters.

Markus could see more and more of the creatures coming, yet he could see no discernable leader. No ‘alpha’. The chaos mage knew the wolves were far too organized to be acting of their own accord.

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Mythal’s magic had already begun to pool into his arm, the dark gauntlet taking form over his limb. While this was an effective weapon for certain people, he was finding that its use was beginning to become somewhat of a nuisance. It improved his strength enough to cause some damage but it had limited availability once he started attacking with other abilities in his repertoire. He made a mental note to take some time and train it out, in hopes that he could expand its ability beyond just his arm.

It was only a moment later that half a dozen wolves emerged from the trees, moving out to show their appearance. They weren’t charging just yet; clearly this was some kind of scare tactic meant to inform them of their situation. The God Slayer’s hand flexed, his magic hissing loudly as he fueled more power into the gauntlet. But as he focused a bit more, he could see that two of the wolves were much larger than the others. Alphas perhaps? They had put down a lot of their brood so it was entirely possible that the leaders of the pack had come for retribution. Before he could think on it further, the monsters charged forward.

Mythal glanced at Markus and shared a single nod before they counter charged. The Chaos Mage unfurled blasts of chaotic energy that hovered about him like moons to a planet, floating time bombs surely. Mythal himself engaged in one of the other smaller were creatures, leaping up and then immediately coming back down, his fist leading the charge. He brought it down on top of the creature’s head, the impact and force behind causing the monster to slam into the ground and immediately form a crater. The God Slayer ripped it back up as he twirled past it, like a runner reaching for a baton. He sent it flying into the other one that was leaping at him, slamming the stunned creature into the airborne one. "Chaos Blast!” he roared, snapping at the conjoined monsters and releasing the gauntlet on his hand in the form of a black blast.

He turned, his other fist coming around to meet the fist of the other large werewolf. The impact of their hands meeting caused the air to vibrate. Mythal’s gaze met the carnivores’ slits, the crimson orbs unfettered by the size and strength of the creature. The werewolf’s other arm swiped at him, though the God Slayer managed to duck down just in time to avoid it. He snapped back up to a standing position, ramming his fist into its stomach. Then he spun and delivered a side kick into its chest, sending it sliding backwards. As it snarled and made to move back at him, Mythal closed the distance with a mighty leap and planted his fist into its’ face, knocking its head to the side. Magic fueled back into his right hand as it brought it back into another haymaker, the impact of the strike buffeting the air once more. With the creature stunned, the God Slayer slid under it’s legs, his right hand already beginning to change color. And as he came to his feet, he leapt up and delivered a hardier punch right into the small of the creature’s spine, the sound of the spinal cord cracking evident in the air.

He glanced backwards, seeing a handful of more werewolves stalking right for him. He grabbed the disabled majora’s tail and swung him around like a living baton, swatting the line of werewolves that had gotten just a bit too close. He then brought the creature back around and sent it flying into the stunned smaller beasts, knocking them down and pinning them under the massive body of the larger creature.

With a deep sign and a heavy breath, the Chaos Mage surged forward jumping to the side as one of the were creatures assaulted him. Waving his hand, he sent another series of chaotic bolts towards his opponents. The problem was, as one fell two more surged forward. Markus could see the end of the creatures, but as he fought, they seemed only to continue forward with more and more rushing endlessly to their death. Yet, the chaos mage could still sense no alpha, no leader. They seemed to respond in one way, attack.

It was strange for the chaos mage to see such creatures so uncaring about their lives. He knew little about were beasts, but what he did know was that they were once human and supposed to have some measure of intelligence. Markus glanced over at the other darkness mage and watched for a brief moment as he spun one of the majora wolves through the air using it as a weapon. With a raised eyebrow the chaos mage turned away to once more deal with his opponents.

Taking a step to his left he sent his hand through the chest of another one of the creatures and felt as the creature died in his hands. With a sigh he took a deep breath, and smelt something… strange, foreign yet oddly familiar. Glancing to the side he found the source of the smell. Looking at the two mages with a look of absolute hatred the vampire from the previous house, dressed in the same fancy clothes glowered at him.

Spawning four orbs of chaotic energy Markus sent them flying through the air, controlling their path he watched as they smashed into the vampiric creature, and dissipated harmlessly. The man only laughed as more wolves came flooding from the trees. “Uhhhhm. Mythal… Our friend… is… back!” Markus called back to the other mage, speaking through breaths as he fought the onslaught.

“I think… we… need that… fancy… sword of yours!” The chaos mage said sidestepping another attack. He slammed his foot to the ground and watched as parts of it smashed round him shattering the earth and sending a wave of chaotic magic all around him. With his momentary rest the chaos mage spoke up once more, his voice calm despite the situation.

“You go and deal with our friend! Use that fancy sword of yours…. God damn it, get out of my way!...” The chaos mage grasped another would and tossed it into a group of his friends. “I got these bloody basterds!” The chaos mage finished, his eyes flooding with magic. Suddenly there was a rip in the air, and the chaos mage appeared halfway across the clearing.

Cupping his hands together he called chaotic energy and void magic combining them in a conflux of magic. As the orb spin in his hand the chaos mage watches apathetically, a majora wolf charging directly at him. With no sound the chaos mage released the magic and sent a concentrated beam of darkness through the creature.

Post by Mythal Ragnos 15th January 2019, 8:17 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

The battle with the werebeasts had been tough before but this was becoming madness! There were fur-covered bodies seemingly everywhere he looked, claws and teeth lashing out to try and bite and tear at each and every body part. The God Slayer was moving around like a leaf on the wind just to avoid suffering grievous injury. But luckily the two of them were strong enough to punish and defeat any creature that got too close, with Mythal managing to interweave dodging and countering almost in the same movements. One werewolf slashed at his face and he managed to duck it, snapping back up to slam an uppercut into its jaw and send it flying. He heard the snarl behind him and leapt up, laying himself horizontal to the ground as two clawed talons went for his feet. He stretched his legs out and kicked the creature in the face, spring boarding off of it and flying forwards. He rolled and was back up on his feet in no time, slamming his gauntlet-covered fist into a charging creature and vaulted it over him, using his arm as a pole for it. This put it right in the way of another wolf as it launched itself at him teeth first, the attacker snapping its jaws shut on one of its comrades. And then Mythal spun and released another bolt of shadow energy, sending both of the creatures flying away.

He heard Markus speak up and he snapped his gaze over to him as he gestured to an… old friend? The God Slayer’s eyes snapped over to where the other wizard’s gaze was and widened at the sight of… their vampire friend from the house. "Oh so he can friggin’ leave the room,” Mythal growled. Before his partner could even reference it, Mythal was reaching to the handle and yanked the glowing blade out of its scabbard. The wolves snarled and snapped, finally backing away from the God Slayer as he revealed the holy weapon, its divine light driving them back. "Well if I’d known it would be that easy…” he remarked as he took Markus’ words to heart, turning and racing towards the vampire.

The undead monstrosity snapped its attention at him, the light instantly catching his attention. His hissed between his teeth, baring his sharp unearthly fangs. Mythal snapped the weapon forward, slashing at the vampire twice diagonally. The creature avoided with supernatural reflexes, managing to dip and dive to either side to avoid damage. It screeched and slashed back at him, trying to catch him while he was off balance. But Mythal was far more practiced in using a sword than this vampire gave him credit for. He stepped back and flipped the blade around, slashing upwards and taking the creature’s arm with it. He cut it off easily at the elbow, the now loose limb flipping through the air as the vampire screeched in pain.

Now it was distracted. The God Slayer spun the blade back and slammed the hilt into its forehead, dazing it further along with the pain. Then the God Slayer spun himself and landed a solid kick into its face, knocking it completely on its back. From there Mythal back flipped through the air, coming around in time to bring the sword in front of him with the blade pointed downwards. The heavenly weapon slid easily through the vampire’s shoulder and down into the ground, piercing the earth like a hot knife through butter. Mythal pushed it through until the guard was pressed against the vampire’s shoulder and then he twisted it, securing the blade against the flesh and attaching it to the ground.

He reached down and flicked the vampire’s nose quickly, causing it to snap furiously at him. "Stay,” he told it, jabbing a finger at it from a fair distance.

Markus shook his head, enjoying the moment of respite. “Guess so, at least now we do not have to track him down.” Markus said in his normal tone, unable to draw on humor at the moment. Glancing about he saw that the wolves were reforming, preparing themselves for another assault. Taking a deep breath Markus tapped his hand on the book at his side, and felt his mind connect with the artifact. He could feel power flooding his magical network, restoring his vitality.

The chaos mage was not suited for such long-term encounters, he was not a Melee fighter at all, and even his mana stores had their limits. Taking a breath, he watched as two more of the wolves decided to charge him. Waving his hand through the air he sent multiple bolts of chaotic energy surging forward. Which collided with the wolves in a violent flash of magic. Taking a step to the side Markus watched as a series of claws raked inches from his face.

With a ripping sound as his body was pulled into the void, he appeared on the other side of the small group of wolves. Slapping his foot on the ground he watched as a wave of dark magic surged along the ground, colliding heavily with the creatures, his follow through was immediate. Cloaking his hand in chaos the black clad mage waved it through the air at the fallen creatures causing scythes of pure void magic to collide with the creatures claiming them for the primordial. With an apathetic glare Markus stepped over the corpses and looked towards his companion.

He could see, even from this distance, a tough battle going between vampire and his guild mate. Markus could tell Mythal was well versed in the blade as he expertly moved the weapon through the air. It did not take the Fallen God slayer long to overcome his foe, as he expertly removed the vampire’s arm before placing the blade into the vampire’s flesh, forcing the creature to the ground. With a heavy sigh Markus returned to what he was doing.

The last of the wolves surged forward, hoping to free their master from the mages. Stepping forward the chaos mage raised his hand in the air and called shadows to him. Faster and faster they spun around his form becoming a cyclone of destruction. All at once they surged forward spinning rapidly in a large area, blades of pure dark magic cut through any who got in their path until passing harmlessly over Mythal, and reflecting uselessly of the vampiric creature.

Suddenly all at once the darkness dissipated leaving the two mages standing over the vampire, who frantically tried to clutch at the weapon imbedded within it. With a savage hiss it glowered at the two mages. Markus looking down apathetically spoke up.

“Ah, my friend it is SO good to see you again.” He looked over at Mythal before continuing. “We have a few questions, and you will of course be a good friend and answer my partner, wont you?” Markus asked, his voice laced with venom.

Looking at his partner Markus spoke softly, "Get what you can. That weapon of yours will prove useful. We do not have long before more of his friends show up."

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

With the vampire pinned for the moment, Mythal turned his gaze upwards to see how the battle was going on Markus’ side. There weren’t many wolves left but they were intent on trying to free their master from Mythal’s sword. The Chaos wizard stopped them, summoning the darkness to him and releasing it in the form of a spinning, violent whirlwind of darkened death. The God Slayer held his ground as the blades reached him, unsurprised that the weapons passed through him like he was ethereal. Once the ravage storm had settled down, there was only Markus left standing.

“Probably lead with that next time,” Mythal said in a small jest as he twisted the blade a bit more in the vampire’s shoulder, eliciting a snarl. The Chaos wizard mocked the creature, explaining to him that they had some questions.

“Bite me!” the vampire snapped at them, baring his teeth and hissing.

A sharp jerk of the blade caused the vampire to howl in pain. “No you’re not gettin’ it. I ask the questions then you answer. Any side comments earn you pain. So let’s try this again. We’re lookin’ for your nest, the source of the vampires. Where is it?”

No answer came, the vampire’s eyes snapping between the two as he glowered. The God Slayer waited a moment or two longer before rolling his eyes and turning the blade a complete cycle within the monster’s shoulder, bringing shouts and howls of pain. “No answer also gets you pain. Or better yet – I’ll have my friend here keep you pinned while I saw off body parts. I’m thinkin’ whatever is hangin’ between your legs first. Whatcha think?”

Mythal watched the vampire’s eyes widen in fear but still he didn’t answer. He shrugged. “Alright, eunuch vampire it is,” he said, starting to pull the blade free form his shoulder.

“Wait, wait!” the vampire finally said, protesting loudly. “I’ll show you, I’ll show you!” he yelled out loud, trying to stop the duo from causing him anymore pain.

“Now we’re getting’ somewhere,” Mythal said with a smirk as he bent down and pulled the vampire free from the ground, though he left the blade impaled in his shoulder. Before the vampire could say a word more, the God Slayer’s hand shot out and grabbed him around the throat, squeezing his esophagus tight. While he was stunned by that, Mythal pulled the sword out, stepped around and behind the creature and then repierced the creature through the other shoulder from the back. He then let the vampire’s throat free, just as he cried out in anger from the new injury. The God Slayer then reached forward and bent the sword’s tip, so that it was horizontal to the rest of the blade. This essentially leashed the vampire unless it wanted to tear it’s torso out.

“I’m sure they won’t mind,” Mythal said in reference to the vampire hunters. “Alright, mush,” he said, giving the vampire a kick to start him up. And with that, they were on their way.

Markus looked towards the other darkness user as he spoke, Markus’ head was cocked slightly and his eyes still glowed with magic. Truth be told, Markus had yet to learn one of the downsides of his magical capabilities. Already, his mind was starting to give way to chaos, give into desire, whim, will. The stronger his display of magic, the worse these results, however… That would be something Markus would learn at a later time. Currently he only nodded at the other man, and made a sound of affirmation. After all, there was no reason to hold back his power?

Markus would then turn towards the vampire as he mate, what Markus would have considered, a rather rude request. The creature was all but defenseless, pinned and helpless. Yet, like most creatures of the night, it seemed to attempt to cling to the idea that it had any sense of control. Any real chance of getting out of this, without telling the two mages everything they needed to know. Markus almost felt bad for the creature… Almost… he thought, as Mythal twisted the blade causing a cry of anguish. Markus would only look upon the creature his mind blank, his eyes passive as Mythal spoke.

The chaos mage listened, his eyes now turning towards the woods, as his companion informed the vampire on the rules of their little powwow. He was to answer only, and listen well. That, or see just how much pain Mythal can inflict. When the darkness mage asked his first question, he waited for just a moment before spinning the blade in a rather painful looking motion. Markus turned towards the sound and stepped forward, placing his boot on the vampiric creatures writhing hand, pinning it to the earth, all strength void from the hand.

Markus waited for the creature to speak, applying more pressure to the hand, preparing. As Mythal struggled, the chaos mage would take a breath, and shake his head. “He tried man, he really did.” Markus turned towards the darkness mage, nodding slightly when suddenly the vampire finally spoke, explicating out loud, trying to save himself for more pain. Markus mealy looked towards the creature, waiting as Mythal pulled up the sad sack of vampire.

Mythal kept the blade in the shoulder of the creature, reaching forward and getting a better grab, modifying the method of pinning, suddenly the vampire found itself in a far worse position, poised to take out its own heart if needed. Markus turned towards the other mage, and nodded. “Effective.” He said simply, before turning to the forest, following the creature as it led them to their destination. The walk was brisk, at least, as brisk as it could be with a pinned vampire.

Markus kept an eye out as they passed through the forest heading deeper and deeper into the lost realm, he could see towering trees, and hear the creaking brush. He could sense various animals, and creatures watching as the group passed, having just interrupted their daily routine, however Markus could not sense anything dangerous, nothing, at least for now it seemed, wished to kill the group. With a yawn Markus turned his eyes towards the darkness mage, they hadn’t had much time to talk, might as well make use of it while they got it.

“So, Fairy Tail… a Darkness God Slayer? What are the odds.” Markus said, questioning the other man on what brought him to the same guild, and same location as Markus himself. Truth be told, he was not good at the whole talking thing, and it was entirely possible his words just came out as musings.
