Plant Hunting With a New Recruit (Job, Telaes, Private)

Standing near the entrance to the guild hall was a certain summoner that was well known in the guild of Lamia Scale. Along with one other, she was an Ace of the guild and had been promoted and given that title by the guild master herself. Why? She didn't know. All she did know was that with that title and role came responsibilities that could not be ignored. Samira had grown accustomed to doing this and that and doing her part before, but things had gotten a little crazy and with the storm of her life came change. Her part in the guild work had reached a point where it was near nonexistent. That had to change now that things had settled down and there was a sense of restored peace of mind for her.

The task she intended to do for the guild was simple: find some plants around Pandora for research and find different uses for them. That would not be all though. No. Two birds would be killed with one stone as they say. She would not be going alone. A new member had recently joined, and Samira wanted to get to know the individual while also letting the newbie get a look around Pandora without the possibility of getting eaten by some rampaging monster.

'So, remind me, who is it that we are waiting on? I am growing curious.' One of the many spirits hanging out in Samira's mind inquired of her with an amused tone.

"I do not know much about her honestly. Just the name. Telaes. Someone else handled her introduction and paperwork."

'OH! So this will be a good chance to do a personal meet and greet sort of thing! That's so nice! Hey, are you going to go hunt some monsters too?!'

'No. Didn't you hear? Samira's taking the newbie on a plant hunt! Who does that?!'

Samira let out a soft sigh. Did her spirits really think they were going to drag a new recruit to slay massive and dangerous beasts already? That was a bit much honestly. There may have been some weaker creatures around, but fighting monsters hardly gave her any time to speak to the one who would be joining her. "Gathering plants for the guild was one of my first jobs as well. I even intend to have her pick all of them herself for the experience."

'That does seem reasonable. That leaves you to defend against any monsters that may attack.'

"I actually intend to have you all do that for me."

'Wait a minute! If mage number two is gathering plants, and we're the ones doing the work if anything should jump out, what are YOU going to do?'

"Supervise, of course," her words indicating that such a statement should have been the most obvious fact in the world. She could imagine the many facepalms and faceplants of her spirits as they heard that response, but she ignored them. They were not venturing too far from the guild hall anyway, so it was quite doubtful that anything truly threatening would pop up to cause trouble. For now, Samira continued waiting patiently as she held onto a bag of supplies they may need for the job. Nothing else was on her schedule which meant the summoner had all day... although it would be nice if she didn't have to wait that long.

Walking in the guild hall was a one of the newest members of the guild Lamia Scale, known as Telaes Edali. Not much was known of her, other than that she would be partaking a job with one of the other guild members that has asked her outside of the guild. Not having much experience she agreed to learn what she could, though she was a little nervous at first about what would happen over the job. Though she knew to herself, if it was dangerous, it wouldn't be the first or last dangerous job she has ever taken, despite them being from outside the guild's requests.

Telaes would look around quickly, trying to find the one who wanted her to join them, but as well trying to not get dragged into a big group in the guild, she wasn't quite used to being with lots of people. Looking around, she struggles to find the one who wanted her to follow her on a request, Samira. After some time Telaes did finally spot where Samira was, who waiting for her to come over to join her before should would take off towards their destination. Mustering up some courage, she walked up and sort of pulling on Samira's arm to get attention from her. "Alright... I am here now." she would say with a soft quiet tone in her voice, not even facing Samira.

The Ace was busy muttering to herself, or at least that was what it looked like to others around her. Really she was still communicating with the spirits in her mind. Now just where was that new recruit? The thought to go and try and find her had crossed her mind just before Samira felt someone pull on her arm. "Hm?" The woman blinked and shifted her glance to see someone she had never seen before, and surely the girl would have stood out prior with the choice of dress and crown-like hair pins. That could mean only one thing... She was the one she had been waiting to arrive. The moment ago mysterious Telaes! Now there was a face to put with the name.

A bright smile appeared on Samira's face as she heard the softly spoken words of the other, but then it turned into a slight frown when she took notice that Telaes wasn't even facing her. Okay... it was going to be a work in progress it seemed. Not everyone was going to be huggy and absolutely giddy to meet her. The smile was forcibly returned, not wanting to make the blonde uncomfortable or regret coming out in the first place. "Fantastic!" She said cheerfully. "I am Samira Nassar and will be working with you today! Our job is simple. We will be going around and collecting some interesting plants that should prove useful for research and other purposes. I know it seems trivial, but this way you will be able to explore a part of Pandora with some safety before going further in where the real dangers lie." After explaining the rather simple details of the job, Samira would take the bag she was holding and hand it over towards Telaes. Within it was some basic supplies for the job such as a trowel, small shovel, and some small pods to store plant specimens. "Here you go! As the new recruit, you get to be the official plant collector. I will be keeping watch in case there is anything around that should not be." If Telaes refused the bag, Samira would stare blankly, stunned for a moment, before just shrugging her shoulders and keeping the bag for herself. It really didn't matter who held onto it in the end.

From there, Samira would turn around and begin heading away from the guild hall, expecting Telaes to follow. If she did, the summoner would attempt to start a sort of conversation so she could get to know the other woman a bit better and perhaps maybe help her feel more comfortable and welcomed into the guild. "I am not sure how much you were told, but we used to have our main branch in Hargeon. We only just recently transferred out here to Pandora after answering the request of the Magic Council to clear this place out, or at least part of it. It is filled with many monsters, you know, so if that is your thing you will have fun, I suppose. I myself joined for the knowledge aspect of the guild, but even I have not evaded having to fight and defeat monsters." Samira then paused her words as she kept walking and keeping an eye out for random plants the guild could use more of. "May I ask what made you want to join Lamia Scale? If you do not wish to disclose that information that is fine. It is a question I often ask new recruits in general."

After Samira introduced herself, Telaes gave a short look at her face, her bright smile soothed her a bit, but looking away as soon as Samira frowned. Telaes, was nervous of what her frown meant, from her younger days, she remembered it meant no food... hoping it wasn't like that here. "H-hi Samira... I think you already know, but I am Talaes, I look forward to working with you!" listening in to what Samira was saying their job, she didn't quite understand a bit of the wording she used, not trying  to look like an idiot she asked "what is research?" hoping it wasn't an off setter to her as Talaes took the bag from Samira.

As Samira moved along, Talaes followed closely behind, mainly looking down, nervous. She peeked into the bag, she thought about how she was told, there might be dangerous things ahead... she'd gulp, "What kind of dangers... lie out there?" nervous to if she meant it be similar to fighting life or death situations... or even being trapped. Overall, it was just her being reminded of what she has done in the past, thievery and other things...

Hearing about the branch part, she didn't quite understand it, thinking it was literally a tree branch responding with a soft tone " I didn't know anything about the branch, but what is this about hergeen?" saying the name incorrectly by accident, she was a bit embarrassed about it and a little flustered. Trying to move over the fail to say hargeon, she tried to move over to the monsters she was talking about.. "the thing about the monsters, Are they... strong? Are they scary?"

After a bit of the walk, and thinking over what Samira said about the reason she joined Lamia Scale, she was scared it was a test. A test to see if she was a loyal individual... she hesitated for a while before whispering "I-I joined... to get away from some things, stuff I want to forget about..." Shortly after saying it, she would shoot a gaze towards Samira, hoping she said the right thing if it were a test or anything similar that could cause her a problem.

What was research? The question was strange to someone such as Samira. Never in her day could she have imagined someone existed that did not know anything about the topic. She had met people that killed without mercy, those that came from other countries and cultures, she had even met people that people would confuse as monsters based on appearance alone. Never someone that did not know of study and research. Although a confused blink had been given there was no sort of negative judgement on the summoner's face. She took the question seriously since the tone of the other woman did not seem as if she were telling some sort of sarcastic remark. "Well, I suppose another term that is simpler would be 'study.' You take something, whether it be an object, person, or even the surroundings and try to come up with facts. An example would be with our plant hunt. What we bring back to the guild will be looked over by others that know about them better, and they will take notes about them and perhaps even create something new from them. Another example would be watching someone or something. You are technically researching them since you can find a lot of information by doing that. We do that a lot with some of the monsters around here."

The nervous replies from Telaes had Samira slowly her steps slightly. To scare the girl had not been her intention at all. Many of the new recruits she had met prior were the confident type that showed no signs of anxiety or nervousness at the mention of monsters. No. More often than not they were triggered when someone commented they'd probably be eaten. Thankfully, no one was around to make that sort of joke around the current one. Samira was already regretting her words as it was. Honestly it was enough to trigger her more caring personality for fellow guild members and her role as an Ace. This one she would have to handle carefully for now. Going out too far into Pandora was now on the no-no list.

She didn't correct Telaes on the mispronunciation of Hargeon. With the question regarding research Samira was already wondering if the woman had been sheltered for much of her life. That was a rather private topic she would not force her to talk about, however. "Oh, it was the town our guild was located before here. We do still have a building set up there for closer contact with those still in Fiore though. If you're ever in the area feel free to stop by and see it for yourself. As for the monsters," the green-haired girl glanced behind her with a reassuring smile on her lips. Yes, many of the monsters within Pandora were strong and could also be very large and intimidating. The recollection of her own dealings with them in the past had come to the forefront of her mind. They had been tough, but they were defeated all the same. Given time, perhaps Telaes would be able to accomplish the same things she had in that regard.

"They can be, but they are deeper inside. We will not go that far today. I just wanted you to get a look around and sort of relax with an easy job while I get to know you a bit better. Afterwards, it will be up to you on how far you go. You do not have to deal with them at all if you do not wish to. You could even take missions elsewhere that do not deal with monsters at all. We are not so strict that we force everyone into the monster hunting area. I would have been kicked out long ago if that was how it worked." Samira laughed softly at her own words, remembering that at one point she couldn't even handle wielding weapons or even using magic correctly. Even her first jobs consisted of deliveries.

The answer to why Telaes joined was taken with no real negative judgement. Although, Samira did stop to turn around and face Telaes. Her words had come out in a whisper, almost as if she were afraid she would be judged for it or scared that Samira would shun her for some sort of wrong answer. She wasn't entirely sure, but something was indeed slightly off about it. Still, she wasn't one to judge. Only recently had she just dealt with problems of her own that she did not wish to talk about even when asked. For the moment, her head tilted and her neutral expression grinned once more. "In a way, that too was a reason I went looking for a guild to join in the first place. We have a bit of something in common now."

As she said that, she noticed at the corner of her eye there was a patch of odd plants that were round with little spikes coming from the pink and purple flower bulbs. "Oh, I do not think I noticed those the last time I was here." Samira had turned to face them and pointed her finger towards them to indicate what she was talking about. "We should grab a few of those." It then dawned on her maybe having her little forced volunteer do all the plant collecting on her own may not be the best idea. At least not at first. "Would you like me to get one first so you can mimic what I do?"

Listening in to Samira' explanation of magic sort of helped her, she was a little confused still, but she hid it from her as they walked along. She knew already she was coming off as a wimp to Samira... or at least that what she thought. Telaes really wasn't a wimp, she was just scared of something deep down, something she didn't want to bring into the light now trying to hide it by being a wimp and scared.

Hearing more about hargeon, she was mildly curious about it but she decided now wasn't the time to be talking about another place as they did need to get ferns for the job. Though coming on to Samira's talk about the monsters made her shiver a bit, it wasn't the monsters that were scary, just combat... she doesn't think she'll be able to be of use if she gets dragged into it. "It nice having to not be forced to partake in combat every now and then... though are the monsters strong?"

After the talk of why they joined Lamia scale, Telaes felt a little more comfortable. She felt that someone would be able to relate to her horrors in a way, she thought that this Samira might help her with her experience... and cover that up from her past. She would shoot up a smile up at her, her first this trip so far, she was starting to enjoy it despite her not understanding some of the things said. Though as the conversation was ending, Telaes looked to where Samira pointed out the pink and purple bulbs, Telaes headed over, and gracefully use the tool given to her to picked a few of each up, taking a second to look at them and placing them in the correct jars to preserve them for the job.

Telaes had asked again whether the monsters were strong, making the summoner grow concerned and aware that maybe she was saying too much all at once. "Many of them are, yes. Although there are some weaker ones that recent new members have gone out to hunt in order to keep them from getting too close to the guild hall. There is no need to worry about the stronger ones though. We value teamwork in Lamia Scale, so in a fight you will never be alone unless you wish to be."

Before the they reached the plants, Telaes had shown a smile in response to her words of having something in common. Finally getting the other woman to smile marked a new goal that had been reached. For a moment there, Samira was worried she had been too serious and perhaps saying things that should have waited until Telaes was more comfortable. Knowing that the new member was starting to feel comfortable brought a sense of joy to her, and made her hopeful that the girl wouldn't regret joining the guild after all. She watched silently as Telaes went off to collect the flowers without needing any help with it. A soft chuckle was made as she went over the earlier thought of her needing help to begin with. Just like herself when she had first started, Telaes had the plant collecting covered and appeared to be efficient enough with the task. Soon enough her adventures as a mage would likely take her away from the easier tasks, however, and Samira wondered if she would be prepared for them. She herself had not been prepared back then.

Once Telaes had made it back, Samira nodded her approval before giving a smile and saying, "Well done." As soon as the other woman was ready, Samira turned and continued to walk along further into the forest of Pandora. A rushing river could be heard in the background, and it got louder the two walked further in, seemingly towards it. "I am curious, Telaes. What sort of magic do you use?" During the walk, red colored plants that gave a sort of misty aura were spread out in random clusters around them. Perhaps those too should be collected.

All the questions about strength of the these rogue monsters out there was mainly because, she didn't want to be indulged into combat... at least not quite yet. She felt unprepared for any combat at all, though she has already been through a lot of combat, she hasn't gotten used to fighting outside of that... which if brought to light could ruin her. In full, Telaes could handle herself in combat well... just well it brings her trauma of what she has done, regretting it fully but she did manage to get through it.

Being praised by Samira was nice but also nerve racking, she tried to only show appreciation for it, hiding most of her nervousness. Normally when she got praised she would be forced to go do other things, or if she did terrible, go without food and be trapped in a dungeon until she was released for another job. Just showing off a smile to hide off any signs to her being nervous. Once the river was close enough to be heard, Telaes looked around extremely nervously... she never heard rushing water outside of a room before...  it was new to her. "W-what is that noise? I-I never heard anything like it before..."

Looking toward Samira when she asked what kind of magic she used, she wasn't too sure what she used. She didn't know what kind of magic she uses, only knew how it works. "uh... My magic uh... Makes me go purple! And makes things kaboom!" hoping that was a good enough description as she only knew the nam of the magic and spells.

Samira glanced behind her Telaes when asked about the sound of the river. My, she really was a sheltered girl that or never left a city before. There would be no judgment over that fact. People learned new things everyday and the sound of a river was just coming a little late for her companion. "The sound is nothing to worry about on its own. It is only a river." She did purposely leave out the fact that where there was water there was often life. The chance a weaker monster being around was slightly higher but there was no worry within the summoner. If they remained quiet they wouldn't attract them, and if they did she could easily resolve the issue.

If asked Samira would have to admit that the explanation of the magic Telaes used was rather... vague. She had expected a little bit more. There was one keyword that made her not ask for a demonstration though and that was "kaboom." Even if she wanted to allow needless destruction of the environment for the demonstration there was the fact the noise could attract anything wandering around. For the moment, Samira stopped walking and fully turned to face her while blinking her eyes in slight wonder and curiosity. "Really? Well, I should like to see it one day. Not now though. We should first continue our task here. Would you mind gathering some of these red plants around here?" She of course was speaking of the red plant clusters that were around them with the low misty aura around them. While they looked a little strange due to that, they were actually harmless and should have been fine for Telaes to obtain safely.

While she was doing that Samira felt it was only fair she told her what magic she herself used. "I myself use what some would call Celestial magic. Maybe you have seen others use it. I bring spirits from another realm to our own and they use their abilities for whatever I need them for at the time."

Feeling relieved from Samira saying the river that was nearby, wasn't going to do anything to harm them calmed Telaes a bit, she never been outside of the town or often outside of places unless she had a 'job' though that was rare until she got older.

Looking over towards where Samira pointed out about the mysterious red flowers, Telaes would head right on over, crouching down inspecting them before getting to the tools in the bag supplied to her. "these flowers look a little off.. Are they safe?" looking up towards Samira as she started digging individual ones out with the trowel before placing a few in containers for this 'research' thing she was told about. When she finished, if Samira let her, she would get up and walk towards samira, looking around the scenery of the forest, it was her first forest she ever seen and she was amazed by it, though distracted by it beauty she tripped on a tree root and fell onto her face.

A simple nod was given as a first response towards the new member's question. It was actually a good inquiry considering the odd mist around the plant and the fact she herself had given very little information about it. There was a reason for that though, and it was because she technically knew very little about it. All she knew was that in its current state it was very harmless and would not do harm while being taken from the ground and while being in its new container. Plant research was near the bottom of her interests. Samira much preferred researching ruins and artifacts. "Yes, they should be. Someone has brought some in before with no harm done."

Samira allowed Telaes to take a few moments to glance around with no interruption from her. Pandora was a mysterious place with much of it still needing to be charted and explored. It was dangerous, especially for mages that were still learning to use their magic, but it did have a sense of wonder and beauty within it. Then the unfortunate happened. So distracted was the other that she tripped and fell forward, landing on her face. A hand raised to cover her mouth in an attempt to stifle the incoming giggle. "Are you-" Samira had begun to say but had to stop to restrain the giggles that were leaking out. "I apologize," she further said after taking a deep breath and then kneeling down with her hand outstretched for Telaes to grab a hold of and be pulled up back to her feet. "Are you all right?"

Telaes would slowly getting up onto her knees, having some shrubbery stuck in her hair. Embarrassed she fell in front of the ace, Samira from her being clumsy which is actually very rare to see from her. Reaching to Samira's offered hand to help her up, though now looking down as she was helped up, a leaf hanging out of her lovely hair. "s-sorry... I got clumsy and distracted that I fell..." upon getting up she checked the bag, everything was fine, nothing damaged, only the trowel fell out which she would reach down and pick up to place back into the bag.

Samira could only continue her light laughter and only hope that the other did not take offense to it. Being insulting was not her intent and most definitely did she not want to make fun of her. It was just rather humorous to see someone that was slightly more clumsy than she was. Never in her days did she really trip or fall from her distractions, but it was often known to those close to her that she had lacked the necessary skills to handle weaponry and dropped them on a constant basis. Physical combat was not really her strength when she first started and still wasn't, although she was much better at it than when she first set out to join a guild and become a more powerful summoner. Everyone had to start somewhere she supposed, Telaes being an example that she was not the only one in the world to make embarrassing mistakes and errors.

"It is fine. No harm done except to maybe your own pride." Samira told her in a friendly manner as she reached out to remove the leaf that had managed to get caught up in the long hair of the other. If she had been stopped or if Telaes reacted negatively to it, she would then be informed that there were leaves stuck in her hair and Samira would retract her hand to allow  Telaes to remove them herself. Either way, Samira would keep her cheerful and kind demeanor before turning back to head towards the guild hall. "That should be enough for today. We gathered a couple of samples, and I got to know you a bit better. I would consider this as mission accomplished." There really was no reason to hod the poor girl to herself the whole day. Other members likely wanted to meet her and help usher her into the guild. Not to mention Samira herself really didn't want to spend the whole day gathering plants. Her main goal was complete, and she could learn more about Telaes on a different job. Perhaps even get to see how she worked in combat related situations. That was for another time though. For now, she was satisfied with the time spent with the new recruit.
