Ash munched on his burger ravenously, clutching it between his hands like recently trapped prey, taking enormous bites each time he went in for the kill. He was numb to everything around him, attention locked on nothing but the meal before him - he'd spent so many jewels on renovating the Perch that he had the bare minimum to pay for food, so visiting a nice little eatery like the Hungry Giant Steakhouse was a welcome luxury. Placing the end of the burger, still wrapped in butcher paper, onto the plate, he grasped the glass of orange juice and drained every drop, sighing happily with satisfaction before munching on the last of his food.
The Phoenixborn boy sat back in his chair with a wide and relieved grin across his lips. Today was going to be a good day, he knew it.
"You hear about that little old lady... Chu, I think?"
"Yeah, she lost her bloody cat. No one can catch it and she put a notice out. I mean come on, it's just a damn cat, right?"
The two men seated right behind Ash burst into raucous laughter, and he gritted his teeth, scooting the chair back loudly, the legs screeching across the cobbles beneath him. Scooting it back under the table, he turned to the men who had fallen dead silent and began to eye him off with a look of confusion.
"Scum," Ash spat simply and walked off through the restaurant, leaving the men to mutter in amusement behind him. Such people who laughed at the expense of others, no matter how small, did not deserve to live. Striding right up to the noticeboard, he gazed at the poster of a cat and some text below it; 'Cat missing, contact Grandma Chu,' followed by an address and a reward of 750 jewels, a decent amount for such a simple task. Ripping the paper from the board, he set off to find the address printed on the poster.
