    PART 1: Shisa

Poko looked up at the snowflakes as they gently floated towards her and the ground around her. She’d had a long and exceptionally marvellous couple days, full of new and exciting experiences. She’d met Leila, leader of Silver Wolf, a kind, beautiful and wondrous woman. Leila even convinced her to join Silver Wolf herself, Poko glanced at her ankle, currently it was covered but underneath her socks lay a bright, hot pink guild mark of a wolf’s head, signifying that she was a part of this wonderful place. However, while Poko was more than grateful, something had seemed off since she joined, like she could feel an invisible presence she didn’t understand. She had shaken it off initially thinking it was just because she was currently staying in a place new to her, the guild hall. But something just wasn’t right, when she had gone down the mountain to visit the forest earlier in the morning, she could still feel it, something watching her, it creeped her out and made her skin crawl.

Poko had looked to Zephyr for guidance; the magical flying rabbit-like creature had always been very good at detecting others around them, well before Poko did. However, he was acting naturally, flying about completely carefree and even playing with some local snow creatures. If Zephyr wasn’t acting strangely then she must just be imagining it, right? She tried to shake of the feeling but just couldn’t. There had to be a reason she felt like this, maybe she should ask Leila about it, but she didn’t want to worry her new guild master, she had bigger concerns, and this was probably all in Poko’s head anyway. Last thing she wanted was to upset people in the guild over nothing. Poko let out a loud audible sigh as she gazed back up at the sky. Even though she should feel cold, she did not, the guild hall was surrounded in a protective shield of sorts, from what she had gathered, that kept the area around it at a nice temperature. Regardless, Poko lifted her hood over her head and lay down with her back and head against the snowy ground in a starfish position.

It was at that moment however, that she felt something spark inside her, it was strange, and it wasn’t her wind magic. It was something completely different. No way, she had only ever been able to control the air, what was this feeling, was this why she had felt so uncomfortable the last few days? Poko had been feeling somewhat stronger recently, she’d learnt quite an assortment of new tactical moves for her magic, but this wasn’t right, this ‘spark’ felt different, but it was definitely magic of some sorts.

"Ugh I’m being stupid." Poko mumbled to herself, closing her eyes.
"STUPID!?!" an annoyed, squeaky voice echoed. Poko’s eyes flashed open. What was that? She gazed around, there was no one? Had she’d just imagined the voice? She stood up, maybe they were hiding and spying on her, she searched carefully, but found nothing. Zephyr being as in touch with others emotions as he was, had felt her uneasiness and made his way over to her, cocking his head as he watched his human with curiosity, trying to figure out what was causing her so much distress.  Poko glanced at Zephyr, giving him a quick pet before making her way into the guild base, glancing around, still searching in case she found the source of the voice.

Poko immediately felt safer inside the oriental designed guild hall, sighing with relief. Sure the feeling of being watched was still there, but at least if someone attacked her inside here they’d have to deal with all the guild’s members, not just one. Poko found a comfy armchair to sit on and rest a bit, trying to relax. Zephyr curled up on lap, the blonde haired maiden gently pet him, playing a bit with his ears and tuft of puffy, purple hair on his head.  Maybe she was just going crazy, that had to be it, Poko closed her eyes, drifting into a light slumber in the armchair.

    *CRASH*

What was that? Poko’s eyes flew opened, scanning her surroundings. Huh? What? Where am I? She wondered, looking around confused, wasn’t she resting in an armchair in the library of the guild hall? The room around her certainly wasn’t a library; it had a different magical feeling to it for starters, not to mention how it appeared physically. It felt like she was floating in green space, however, there was definitely a floor. Although the floor felt squishy, like it was made from a giant sand bag. The hell is this place? Poko wondered as she moved her feet around. Suddenly Poko heard the same voice she’d heard earlier speak behind her.

"About time you got here, we’ve only been waiting forever." Poko turned around to find the source of the voice, in front of her stood a tiny plushy looking lion hovering in the air, arms folded. His face was round and yellow, with a matching yellow on his tummy; however the rest of him was white with the tips of his fur a beautiful pale green, his ears and mane around his face gave the impression of a 5 pointed star. He had a thin tail behind him, a round puff of white fur curled at the end. His emerald green eyes stared intently at Poko, he looked, angry? If anyone should be angry it was Poko, just what was she doing here?  The blonde girl opened her mouth to ask, but the lion simply put one of his paws, which he seemed to use as hands, in front of her mouth.

"Now is not the time to speak, human." The strange lion creature then turned to Zephyr, "What the hell took you so long to bring her here? We sent off to the human realm nearly ten years ago and to fetch her and you only bring her back NOW!?" Just what was this creature on about, Zephyr brought her here? Why would he do that? Why was he sent to get her? So many questions filled the young maiden’s mind. Zephyr had helped her learn wind magic, yes, but he was her friend, he wouldn’t take her somewhere without a good reason. Poko glanced at Zephyr, if this lion creature could talk, did that mean Zephyr could too? The purple and white rabbit simply tilted his head, without saying a single word. Instead it was the lion creature that spoke again.

"Oh quit making excuses you big eared idiot, me and the others have been waiting for centuries for the chosen one to be born, we finally find her, send you to get her for us and the best you can come with for not bringing her back sooner was because you wanted to make sure she was the one? OF COURSE SHE’S THE ONE!?! You really think the first star would be wrong about this? IMBECILE!" He roared furiously in his cute little voice, it was sort of hard to take him seriously because of it, however, no one insults Zephyr, not while Poko is around.

"HEY!" Poko yelled at the furry lion creature, "Don’t yell at my friend, who do you think you are!?!" She glared at him, eyes turning a bright red; this only seemed to make the lion laugh at her.

"HA! Guess I forgot to introduce myself, I am Shisa, one of the guardians of the stars." He glanced at Zephyr, "As is your so called friend, Zephyr." The lion turned back to Poko, "He was SUPPOSED to being you back a lot earlier than this, but now we’ll have to teach you of the ways of starlight a little later than we wished for. Anyway I don’t have the time right now to explain it all, you’re going to wake up soon as we only have one dream together each with you before you summon us. You’re going to have to talk to Yuuto if you have further questions, although he’s probably just as silent as Zephyr, completely useless." The creature who called himself Shisa rambled on. "Well, bye for now, tiny human."

"Hey wait!" Poko tried to each out to Shisa but before she could the world around her span and swirled, causing her to lose consciousness. When she opened her eyes next she was back in the library, had it all just been a weird dream? That had to be it. Poko’s over active imagination was finally getting the best of her. Poko stretched as she stood up, only realising that Zephyr wasn’t on her lap anymore as she did. Where’d he go? She looked around, searching for her friend but couldn’t find him in the library, perhaps he’d gone outside again. Poko made her way outside, to search for her companion.

PART 2: Yuuto and the Golden Stand

Poko had looked in just about every nook and cranny of the guild base in search of her furry companion, just where could he have gotten to? She had been calling him for hours, much to the annoyance of others within the guild hall, she wasn’t trying to be irritating, but she hadn’t met many of the other members and was too scared to approach them for help. Poko thought back to the strange dream in the green realm, Zephyr had been there, was it that it wasn’t just a dream? She knew it was possible that other worlds existed other than their own; she’d been to Paradise with Quill after all. However, she hadn’t gone through a portal like that one, she’d just been asleep at the time. Poko was feeling flustered, she was worried her friend was in danger, but maybe he was still just in this other world, if that was the case how did she get there? She tried to remember what the lion thing had told her.

It was all still fresh and quite vivid as she recalled the creature call himself Shisa and said something about only getting one dream each with them, what did that mean? Were there more creatures like Shisa? He seemed to know Zephyr, even his name, in fact it was almost as if he had communicated with the silent rabbit-like companion. Poko racked her brain trying to come up with a solution, the only thing she could think of was trying to sleep and hoping she’d wake up in the other dimension again, but if that didn’t work she’d just be wasting precious time while Zephyr could be in danger somewhere. The young blonde maiden was confused, what should she do? It’s not like she had a better idea, she could always attempt to wake herself up if it didn’t appear to be working. She nodded to herself and went to find her sleeping quarters.

Poko sat in the bed for what seemed like forever, unable to sleep, she was so restless right now, but she had to try at least. What she needed right now was for someone to cast sleeping magic on her, but she didn’t know if anyone like that was in the guild and it would take far too long to request someone to come help her from another. Poko closed her eyes, forcing them shut. Come on, come on, fall asleep already… She opened her eyes wide again and sighed, she was still in her room.  This sucked, Zephyr was missing and the best she could do was lay around in bed? Poko felt a small tear trickle down her face as she wished he would return to her, she missed him. Suddenly without warning, she was overcome with drowsiness and fell into a deep slumber.

    *CRASH*

She knew that sound, her eyes flashed open instantly, scanning her surroundings quickly, the place she was in was similar to that before, except this one was a pale blue, rather than green. The room, or space, was as empty as it had been the last time, except… Poko glanced over, this time it had a… book stand? Poko’s eyes widened, and what was that creature sitting atop of it? Before her stood a beautiful, golden bookstand, with exquisite markings and atop of it sat a creature, unlike any Poko had seen before. It almost looked feline, except instead of front lefts it had two large fluffy wings, giving it a bat-like appearance as well. Maybe it was a mix, like Zephyr was. This creature didn’t speak, however it gazed into Poko’s orange curious eyes with its own dark blue orbs with the same curiosity reflecting back at the girl. It tilted its head at her, then gazed down at the book open on the stand in a similar fashion to how Zephyr would if he wanted her to look at something.

Poko approached the creature tentatively, careful not to trip on the soft, squishy ground. When she had reached the golden book stand, the half-cat, half-bat creature, looked almost… happy? Enough so that it made Poko smile at it, it seemed friendly enough. “You want me to read this book?” Poko giggled as she asked it the question. The creature nodded slightly, as if it was telling her ‘yes’. “Alright then.” Poko said, gazing into the book, she read some of it, but it didn’t make sense. It was open to the centre of the book, of course that wouldn’t make sense. She turned the pages back to the very first one on the first page it read:

‘This book is a gift to those the first star deems worthy to be the master of the guardians of the stars.’

A gift? First star? For the guardian of the stars master? What did that mean? Poko recalled the creature called Shisa mentioning something like this before, what had he said the name of the one she would meet next was called? "Yuuto?" Poko thought, mumbling it aloud, upon hearing the name the bat-like creature suddenly leapt into the air before coming back down and landing on her should, a look of pure happiness on its face. "Oh!" Poko exclaimed a little shocked at first, but happy to have made what appeared to be a new friend, Yuuto must have been the correct name after all. Poko flipped to the next page in the book. This one had a table of contents, with some rather interesting content headings.

    1. Star Children: Masters of the guardians
    2. List of All guardians
    3. Responsibilities of the guardians
    4. How to summon a guardian as the master
    ...and so on.

Poko flipped to the first section, seeing as it was always best to start a book from the beginning after all. It went on to explain how every few centuries a star child would be born in a world, this child would also be referred to as the master of the guardians. When such a child was located, the first star would send a guardian to help them grow their magical abilities, eventually allowing them to access the ability to teleport to the guardian realm, where they would be taught everything they needed to know. Poko read on and on, learning as much as she could about what she assumed was herself, why else would she have been brought to such a strange place.

She scanned over it quickly, not knowing if she’d have enough time to read it all before she woke up, she needed to know as much as possible. Suddenly the creature on her shoulder shuffled, causing Poko to lose concentration and look into his eyes, he still seemed happy but, also somewhat sad? The blonde girl wasn’t exactly sure, she could read Zephyr like a book, but this creature was still somewhat of a mystery even if he did remind her of him. Suddenly Poko began to feel the whirling of the world once more, as she had before. "NOOOOO!" She cried out, not yet, she needed to know where Zephyr was, she needed to know he was okay. She clutched at the book, eyes closed tightly now as the room closed into darkness.

Poko’s eyes sprang open, scanning the room; she was back in her dormitory. No…Zeph…  Poko felt tears begin to form in her eyes, she was about to cry when she noticed in her arms she was still clutching the golden book, her eyes lit up. She hadn’t noticed the books appearance before but it matched the book stand, the same golden colour and mystical patterns swirling around both the front and back of the cover.  She quickly opened it up, checking it was indeed the same book. IT WAS! She breathed a sigh of relief, now she just had to find out if it had some sort of clue as to where Zephyr was. She didn’t want to be too long without her friend that had been with her for so long and she refused to believe he had completed deserted her, he would never do that. Not in a million years!

    Part 3: The Golden Book

Poko sat at the desk inside her room at the guild hall, scanning through the book for information about Zephyr. She finally finished the first section, it all sounded like a bunch of nonsense to her, the first star selects random people in different worlds when a great force of evil was approaching. It was their job to fight of the darkness, or something like that. It all seemed like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to her, but she’d seen so many different types of mages and demons, it was plausible, she guessed. It didn’t really specify why it had chosen her specifically, she could only assume it was something to do with timing or what not at birth, probably, she didn’t really understand most of it and it didn’t help that half of the book seemed to be written in some foreign lost language, so she couldn’t even read it at all.

Poko rubbed her eyes, she needed to stay focused. Alright, second chapter, ‘List of guardians’. As she flipped the page it explained that there were several different guardians all with their own unique abilities, but it wasn’t that that interested her, it was the fact that there was a picture of what appeared to be Zephyr. It couldn’t be, he was one of the guardians, well at least she had confirmed it now, she read the biography of the creature she’d always thought of as nothing else but a magical bunny. The book mentioned things Poko already knew, such as anatomy, how he can fly, uses wind magic, has increases senses etc. It didn’t really mention much else, there had to be something. She flipped through the pages till she got to the next section ‘Responsibilities of the Guardians’. She was relieved to see there was a section on Zephyr here, maybe this would clear up a few details.

    'Zephyr, messenger of the stars
This guardian serves one of the most important roles, it is his duty to find the star child, with the help of the First Star. He must travel to the world of the star child, ensure they are capable of defeating the evil, then take them back with him to the Guardian Realm to meet the other Guardian of the Stars. His sole purpose is to ensure the safety of the star child throughout any journeys while they acquire this magical abilities necessary to summon the Guardians. Only after completing this mission will be himself be able to return to the Guardian’s Keep where the First Star resides.'

Guardian’s Keep? Is that where Zephyr went? Poko scratched her head, she supposed it made sense as to why he was traveling with her, but she most definitely didn’t have the ability or know anything about summoning any guardians that was for sure. So clearly he couldn’t have been done with his quest. If this was the case, where had he gone? Would he be coming back? Was it possible she wasn’t this ‘star child’ after all? Was there some sort of mix up and he was trying to fix it? Poko’s brain was going wild with possibilities, while they all seemed like nonsense; it was difficult at this point in time for her to know just exactly what was plausible at this time. She sighed, resting her head on the pages of the golden book as she gazed out the window. Poko just wanted her friend back.

"Ugh…Zephyr where are you?" Poko mumbled in a sort of groaning way as she gazed out at the snow falling from the sky. She missed his playful charms and cute little face; he was her first proper friend in her life, the first being that had just accepted her for her. She sat back up, maybe she could find a way to bring him back if she kept reading, this book was obviously useful and full of vital information. The passage about Zephyr had mentioned something about summoning, so she skipped to the next section on summoning the guardians. Maybe she could summon him somehow; at this point she felt that was her only real hope.

'4. How to Summon a Guardian as the Master

The process is both fairly simple, however it is important to read through this guide completely before attempting to do so.  While an experienced Star Child, or Master, only needs to simply focus on the one they wish to summon, and think "I call upon you, [Guardian Name], guardian of the stars." It is quite a bit more complicated for those inexperienced in summonings.

To begin with the first time you summon one of the guardians you must speak the lines out loud, rather than by thought. The Master may also use a lot of you magical energy in the process as the first time they are summoned they are being brought to a world that is possibly completely new to them, in which case they will need to alter their very being, in order to correctly use their abilities properly.

Once summoned however, the Master may form a telepathic link with the summoned guardian, doing such allows but the Master and the guardian to communicate by simply projecting their thoughts at one another. This is incredibly useful in combat situations or times when speaking could cause issues. Once this link has been formed the Master can now call the guardian by projecting their thoughts to their guardians in the guardian realm rather than speaking aloud.

    NOTES:
    1. It is also important to note that every guardian requires a different amounts of magical power, depending on their own power and abilities, it is therefore not recommended for a new Master to attempt to summon more powerful guardians.
    2. Once a guardian has been summoned once to a world, they are able to also summon themselves on occasion using their own power, however this is incredibly limited to their own magical power and is often less than what the master can offer in terms of time in a world.
    3. ....
    '

Poko reread the main passage, skipping over the rest of the notes, it seemed, simple enough, albeit somewhat confusing regarding some of the telepathic stuff, plus she’d need to ensure she had enough magical energy to summon them at first. Well there was only one way to test it, she hoped this would bring back Zephyr. Poko shut her eyes, concentrating on nothing else but her beloved familiar, his cute white face, his puffy purple mane, his long ears and tail and how they swayed in the breeze, even the little Silver Wolf guild mark on his adorable little fluffy butt. "I call upon you, Zephyr, guardian of the stars." Poko felt power draining from her, but it wasn’t that much, nowhere near as much as she was expecting, she opened her eyes to find herself face to face with none other than those beloved purple eyes, which seemed to shine in glee.

"ZEPHYRRRR!" Poko cried, happiness overwhelming her, she didn’t care that tears were flowing from her face, she just wanted to hold him tightly, and that she did. Her arms wrapped around his small frame, gripping him tightly but not enough to suffocate the poor thing. Zephyr licked Poko’s face in a sign of affection before nuzzling his face into her neck, careful not to let his horn scratch her. After several long minutes of cuddles and affection between the two, Poko released Zephyr, allowing him to freely fly about. He landed on the book, using his wind magic to blow the pages back to the list of guardians, looking her directly in the eyes with a serious, silent expression, as if telling her she needed to do more than just summon him. "Fine, fine, I guess I have to learn how to summon these guardians." Poko sniffed, sucking up the mucous in her nose that was still runny due to the previous sobs of pure joy.

    Part 4: Guardian Summoning

Poko groaned at Zephyr, "Really, do I have to?" the companion simply blinked his purple eyes, his paw still pointing to a particular guardian in the book, "But he was so… Abusive." Poko whined, remembering what he had been like as she tried to get her purple familiar to change his mind. Zephyr repeated his blink, forcing a long sigh out of Poko as she conceded, "Fiiiiine…" The young girl closed her eyes, concentrating on the features of the creature, half from memory, half from the picture that was in the book.  His angry, yet somehow adorable yellow face with his two emerald eyes, the way his mane spiked out like a star, white but with green tips, his long tail with little spiral of puff at the end. "I call upon you, Shisha, Guardian of the Stars!" As Poko finished her chant she felt a ton of her magical energy drain, much more than she had with Zephyr, she opened her eyes, coming face to face with the same emerald eyes she had imagined.

"About bloody time!" Shisa exclaimed rudely, as he looked around the room, "What even is this place? I don’t believe I’ve been to this world before." Poko looked absolutely drained of magical energy, "It’s…. Earth Land…." She sighed, resting her head on the table, why did she feel so tired, she barely used anything she had summoned Zephyr.  She could hear Shisa talking, but it was drowned out by her thoughts. She tried to remember what the golden book had said about summoning guardians. "Oi! Human, are you listening to me?" Shisa yelled, hitting Poko in the face with one of his paws as he eyed her angrily. Poko groaned, "What?" She asked looking at him with displeasure, "Can’t you see I’m tired here…"

"Of course you’re tired, gosh, didn’t you read the book at all?" Shiro sneered, "It clearly states that it drains a lot of energy from you when a guardian is first called to a new world, as I’ve never been here before, it took a lot out of you, obviously." The little lion-like creature rolled his eyes as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I see…" Poko sighed, well that made sense, Zephyr had already been in this world before, so of course it didn’t take much energy to summon him.
"Anyway, now that I’m here, I want to see what you can do, human!" Shisa nagged, poking Poko’s forehead, "Come on, get up!" Ugh, why did Zephyr make her summon someone so damn annoying? Poko turned her face towards the other side of the desk, "I said I’m tired…. Geez, give it a rest." Poko yawned, "Also my name is Poko, not Human." Poko spat annoyed at the way he spoke to her. "Well fine then Poookoooo, if you’re not going to show me your magic, I may as well not show you mine." He turned with a ‘hmph’ and burst into a puff of green smoke, returning back to the guardian realm. Thank goodness, now for some peace and quiet. With that Poko fell asleep, exhausted from her first real summoning. She hadn’t even got to test out Shisa’s true abilities, but at least she knew the next time she summoned him it would be a lot easier on her body, although he’d probably still give her a headache with his constant yapping.

A few hours passed before Poko woke up, still at her desk, she looked outside as she rubbed her eyes to see it was now dark out. Well she had spent most of the day searching endlessly for Zephyr after all, it made sense that it would be quite late now. Poko yawned as she stretched her back and arms, still sitting at her desk. Zephyr had been curled up on the book, this time the page was open to another familiar face, the cute little cat-bat creature that reminded her of Zephyr so much. She really wouldn’t mind summoning him. Most of her magical energy had returned during her rest so she was more than willing to give it another go. Okay, concentrate. She focused on his cute little cat like face, with his two fluffy wings and the turquoise fluff around his neck, the shape of his batty body.

"I call upon you, Yuuto, Guardian of the Stars!" Poko commanded, once again, she felt the same energy drain of which she had from Shisa. Damn it, guess he’s never been here either. She had kept her eyes open during this summoning, if she wanted to be able to summon them during combat, she figured she best learn not to have to close her eyes to summon them now. She watched as a puff of blue smoke appeared, before disappearing to reveal none other than Yuuto. Poko smiled happily at the creature, although her magical power was all but consumed in the process, she held on long enough to give him a pet, which he seemed grateful for, even snuggling his little furry face into hers, making the girl smile as she started to lose consciousness, forcing Yuuto back to the guardian realm faster than the previous summon.  Poko was sure he wouldn’t mind, he seemed much kinder than Shisa after all. With that she had learnt to summon two of the guardians, she wasn’t sure if that was enough but for today it certainly was.
