Re: Tag | Solo Job
Spring was right around the corner. Tucking a loose lock of her emerald hair behind her ear, Pia watched as a group of children ran around shouting near her. Normally she would have been irritated by the ruckus which interrupted her peaceful reading, however as she caught glimpses of their bright smiles she couldn't help but smile too. Noticing the girl watching them, one of the children approached her, pointing a finger, rather accusingly, directly in her face, "Are you going to sit there looking lonely all day miss or are you going to join in the fun?” Taken aback by the sudden interaction, Pia couldn’t help but let out a small giggle, “Well what game are you playing? I’ll join in if you tell me the rules.” She didn’t expect her words to be met with such a look of horror, “You don’t know what tag is?” The boy looked in disbelief at the girl who shook her head with one small movement, answering his question, “You’re weird miss- but I’ll teach you! To play the game you have to run around away from the person who is ‘it’ and if they touch you and shout tag you’re ‘it’ then you chase people around- get it?” It was a challenge for Pia to register every word that left the child’s mouth for he spat them out rather excitedly as he tugged the girl to her feet and began to lead her over to his group of friends; none of which had noticed their friends lack of presence for the had been to immersed in their game. Standing in the middle of the park, she watched once again as the children ran, but this time around her. ”You have to run silly!” The boy from before – whom she noted was called Joe by the other children - called out to her just in time for her to start moving before the girl running towards her touched her. She didn’t have to run very fast at all to escape the giggling kids, but it was fun nonetheless. Deciding not to use her age and size to her advantage, she slowed her pace until Joe slapped her on the back yelling, “TAG!” breathlessly, before running away on his short legs. She was now ‘it’, whatever that meant- she didn’t really manage to pick up the rules properly from Joe earlier. Choosing to mimic the boys’ actions she ran after another girl, ‘tagging’ her. And so the cycle continued. ~*~ It was not until Pia noticed the clouds were laced with pink that she realized how long she had been playing with the younger ones in the park. Deciding she had had enough fun for one day she picked up her book from the bench she had left it on and went to bid farewell to Joe and his gang of very loud, energetic friends. As she walked away from the scene, hugging her book to her chest, she thought of how she would tell Shino about her adventures over a nice dish of fried squid later on that night.WORD COUNT: 517/500 | riverside. chilled to the marrow in them bones why do I go here all alone |
