    Bump Fi's Arc of Time

Post by Dangerous Stranger 19th January 2018, 1:06 am

    Magic

    Primary Magic: Arc Of Time
    Secondary Magic: -
    Caster or Holder: Caster
Description: Arc of time is an ancient lost magic that involves the use of magic to manipulate time itself, around the user. This magic is notably unable to affect sentient organic beings directly, except in extremely special cases (such as second and third origin releases). The user can fast-forward, slow down, stop, or even reverse the individual timeline of any non-sentient living thing or object, such as a tree or a sword. This means that they can effectively block attacks by 'stopping' the attack that's targeting them, as well as attack by causing plants to rapidly grow. The user may also manifest multiple different possible timelines for an object at once, creating a large flurry of attacks that is nearly impossible to avoid.

Fi, herself, has mastered this magic to the point that she can even affect herself with it, allowing her to repair herself as she would an object, as well as speed herself up or slow herself down by affecting the timeline of everything around her. She mainly uses this magic tactically and sparingly, choosing to rely more on her own physical combat than her magic, but if things look hairy enough she won't hesitate to use everything she's got. When utilizing this magic, she mainly focuses on self-healing, as well as directly offensive spells, intending to destroy her opponent as quickly and efficiently as possible. She also occasionally uses very minor examples of her magic throughout day-to-day life, such as speeding up a cooking project, changing clothes in an instant similarly to requip magic (but not quite as useful, we're talking normal outfits here, and only if she has them immediately on hand), or even effecting herself in order to grow her hair or fingernails much faster than normal, for example.
    Strengths:

    • Self-Healing. Despite the magic not being generally capable of affecting sentient living things, Fi is capable of at the very least healing herself with this magic; albeit she cannot do this for others.
    • Versatility. Between stopping attacks, creating massive volleys of her own, healing herself, and even repairing broken objects, this magic has a lot of practical utility.
    • Non-Magic Compatibility. The various spells throughout this magic can be used not only as directly offensive spells, dealing standard spell damage; They can also be combined with the use of any items or weapons the user has access to, such as lacrima, to create devastating effects.

    Weaknesses:

    • Cannot target sentient living beings. With the exception of herself, obviously, Fi cannot use this magic to directly effect living things.
    • Single-Target. Most of the spells in this magic involve effecting a single target at a time. The only exception is spells of B-Rank or higher, and even then multiple-target spells are rare for this magic.
    • Not directly offensive. Needing objects in order to use this magic for any real offensive spells wouldn't normally strike someone as a 'weakness' per se, but this means that the magic isn't capable of dealing damage directly, itself. This means that, unless using an object or weapon from the surrounding area, this magic has no real way to harm anyone.
    • Any magic Items or Weapons that are being used in conjunction with offensive Arc of Time spells MUST be the user's property. This means that the user cannot simply be 'lent' a powerful magic item and still use their offensive spells with it.

    Lineage:
    Other Half:
    Unique Abilities:

    • Wound Closure. Due to her focus on self-healing with her magic,
Fi has learned to reflexively activate a state of healing and rest, which essentially re-writes her own personal timeline in order to effectively cancel damage that she's taken, from simply altering how badly she was hurt to completely erasing the fact that she was ever hurt in the first place. This ability is subconscious and passive, so as long as she is still alive it is in effect, healing 5% of her total HP every other post. This also affects her in her 'other self' mode, counting the combined HP total as her current HP, healing her base HP pool first.
    • Chronal Awareness. This ability makes Fi aware of any time magic being used within 1 mile of her, as well as allowing her to see mere seconds into her own future, allowing her to better strike or dodge in situations where dice rolls aren't involved, and allowing her to roll one extra time for a single action taken each post to determine the success of that action when rolling is involved.
    • Second Origin. This unique ability of Arc of Time allows the user to have opened their own second origin, regardless of rank. At D-C rank this means a 50% boost to magic power, and beyond C-rank increasing magic power by 60%.

    Spells:

    Name: Flash Forward
    Rank: D
    Type: Offensive
    Duration: Instant
    Cooldown: 2 Posts
Description: The bread and butter when it comes to using time magic offensively, "Flash Forward" creates multiple copies of a single object or weapon that Fi is currently holding, either belonging to Fi or which was simply laying around in the environment unattended. Fi then selects a single target, causing all of the objects created this way to 'home in' on the target at a high speed. This spell is incredibly hard to dodge completely, and at this level creates 4 copies of the object in question to attack a given target. The speed of each attack is 45 meters per second, and will home slightly (target is still able to dodge, this is merely a narrative effect), with a range of 60 meters. In the case of environmental objects such as chairs or rocks being used, this spell does D-rank damage total, meaning each successful hit only does 1/4 damage. In the case of magic weapons and items, each copy (including the original) will do damage equal to what that object would normally do, or D-rank total damage if the item isn't normally used to deal any sort of damage. (Note: Any magical 'item' used still only flings at the target, then does damage however it normally would upon successfully striking the opponent, and only if the strike is successful, regardless of any abilities that item may have otherwise. Failed hits will be considered 'failed time-lines', essentially, meaning that the attack was simply doomed to fail.)
    Strengths:

    • Can use objects in the area, as well as the user's own magic items and weapons, making this spell usable in almost any situation.
    • High damage potential when utilizing magical weapons and items.
    • Extremely effective when dealing with slower enemies.
    • Very difficult to dodge completely, as there are essentially 4 different attacks coming in at once. This means 4 attack dice, 4 defense dice, if dice rolling is applicable to the situation at hand.

    Weaknesses:

    • Very low base damage per attack when using environmental objects.
    • Fi must be holding whatever item she chooses to launch at her target before she may execute the spell.
    • This spell can be canceled by simply knocking the object Fi intends to use out of her hands before she completes the spell.
    • It is also very difficult to -hit- with every single attack thrown by this spell, limiting its overall damage potential except in very rare cases.
    • This spell cannot utilize magic items or weapons that do not rightfully belong to Fi, herself.
    • Cannot target more than one enemy, despite forming multiple attacks at once.
    • Magic items or weapons thrown using this spell have no effect at all if they miss, regardless of the item's original abilities.

    Name: Reversal
    Rank: D
    Type: Supplementary
    Duration: 1 post+
    Cooldown: 3 posts+
Description: Fi may use this spell to target nearly any broken object (including magical ones), repairing the object with her arc of time. This spell has a base duration of 1 posts for any object of D-rank or lower, but for each rank higher than D the duration and cooldown both increase by 1 post. Fi must remain in contact with at least one part of the original item for the duration in order for it to be repaired, but if the repair fails the cooldown of this spell is only 3 posts, regardless of the challenge of the repair. The item and all it's parts will be engulfed in magical light for the duration, at the end of which it is restored completely to it's original state, either in Fi's hand, or in it's original place in the case of buildings. Fi needs at least a large majority (80% or more) of the pieces of any broken object be within 60 meters of her in order to repair it, but she need not focus all of her attention on doing so. If anything other than minor chunks or pieces of the item in question are missing from this 60-meter radius area, this spell fails automatically, causing Fi to waste her energy and putting the spell on cooldown. Additionally, this can only be done once per item per thread. If the item breaks again, Fi can't use this spell to help.
    Strengths:

    • Since Fi does not need to focus on repairing a given object with this spell, she can still fight with any limbs that are not currently being used in the repair process.
    • This spell is capable of fixing nearly anything, from buildings to weapons and armor, so long as most of the original object's pieces are still nearby.
    • This spell allows the user to restore broken re-quip or holder items, as well, but only if they follow all of the rules for the casting of this spell.

    Weaknesses:

    • If less than 80% of the original object is present for the casting of the spell, the spell simply fizzles, wasting magic energy and going on cooldown.
    • When restoring powerful legendary items or artifacts, Fi takes a very long time to finish the restoration process, and the process cannot be repeated for quite some time afterwards due to this spell's growing cast duration and cooldown.
    • Extremely limited number of uses per item, per thread.
    • If Fi is at any point forced to come out of contact with the object she is attempting to repair, the spell immediately fails and goes on cooldown.
    • Failing to restore an object also counts against her "once per object per thread" limit, meaning that if she is stopped, she simply cannot repair that item anymore, until a later thread when applicable.

    Name: Dimensional Copy
    Rank: D
    Type: Summon
    Duration: 6 Posts
Cooldown: May only be used once per thread.
Description: Fi takes a moment to mentally reach through dimensions through the use of alternate timelines, manifesting a strange, undulating white glow within 5 meters of herself that then becomes an exact copy of her, moving and acting just as she would. This copy of herself is only capable of using it's passive and active abilities when it comes to magic use, and gains no benefit from Fi's lineage. This copy is poorly trained in the use of magic, but is much more physically adept. This copy moves and takes actions according to Fi's will, but it acts independently for all other intents and purposes, and at the end of it's duration the copy vanishes. If the copy leaves a 60 meter radius centered on Fi for more than a single post, the spell also ends, starting the cooldown. Since this copy can move and act on it's own, and looks nearly identical to Fi, it is possible for enemies to become very confused while fighting her if this spell is active. While the clone remains within 60 meters of Fi, she and her clone can communicate mentally, including both the ability to speak to eachother and also convey ideas, images, and sounds to eachother. (Since Fi and the clone share a mental link within 60 meters of eachother, it is also good to note that the clone benefits from the 'extra roll' ability granted by Fi's Chronal Awareness, but the clone otherwise gains no benefit from Fi's magic's unique abilities or Fi's lineage.)

Passive: The copy is from an alternate timeline in which Fi is noticeably stronger and more physically skilled than she would have been at D-Rank, granting it +50% to strength and narratively increasing the skill with which the clone may fight.

Active: The clone may at any time trade places with Fi, creating a noticeable, but instantaneous, temporal distortion around both Fi and her clone upon switching places. This can be done as long as the clone is still within 60 feet of Fi, but this ability has a cooldown of 2 posts.

    Strengths:

    • Multiple combatants. Whether to level the playing field while Fi is outnumbered, or to outnumber a troublesome foe, putting a second combatant on the field is always helpful.
    • Long duration. This spell's long duration means that Fi can basically have an ally for a whole fight, unless the clone is somehow removed earlier than expected.
    • Since Fi and the clone share a mental link, anything that the clone sees or hears, she may also see or hear, and vice-versa.

    Weaknesses:

    • The clone itself is incapable of utilizing magic properly, and as such is limited to only using magic as far as is allowed by equipment that Fi chooses to share with it, and it's own passive/active abilities.
    • The clone may not leave a 60-meter radius of Fi for more than a single post, even if leaving this area was not intentional or could not be avoided.
    • All mental communication between Fi and the clone stops should the clone leave the allowed 60-meter radius centered on Fi.
    • Fi may only use this spell once per thread, due to potential damage caused to the clone's timeline and her own. (Can't actually damage timelines if she attempts to use it again, the spell will simply fail.)
    • Even when Fi is a higher rank, herself, this spell will only summon a copy of herself as she would have been at D-rank in the given alternate timeline, so Fi's own stats have nothing to do with the stats of her copy.

    Name: Degrade
    Rank: D
    Type: Offensive/Supplementary
    Duration: 3 Posts
    Cooldown: 4 Posts
Description: Fi points at a single object within range (60 meter radius centered on Fi). Then, so long as that object would fit within a 10 meter radius centered on itself, this spell may immediately degrade that object either completely or partially, however Fi chooses. If the object would not fit within this 10-meter radius, she may only choose to degrade whatever part of that object would fit within it, such as a 10-meter hole punched into a wall. In this case, the wall would maintain it's original structural integrity, despite the gaping hole in it. "Degrading" an object can mean simply reducing it to it's base components before it was assembled, to aging it completely to dust. This effect is instantaneous when regarding unattended objects, but if Fi chooses an object held or carried by another creature, that creature may attempt to 'dodge'. In the former case, the only visual effect is what happens to the object itself after the spell takes its effect. In the latter case, despite this spell working instantly and discretely on unattended objects, it also gives a sort of 'warning' or 'grace period' when targeting objects that are being held by a sentient creature. For a brief time, a small yellow beam will indicate which object Fi intends to destroy, during which time the holder of the object may attempt to pull it out of the way of Fi's spell. If the holder of that object is at least 2 ranks higher than Fi is, it is assumed they will always be fast enough to do so, and if rolling is involved they may simply consider their result a success.. There is merely a brief, 1-2 second pause that the holder of the object can use to react. This spell may only effect objects of D-rank or lower, including magical constructs from "make" magics. At the end of this spell's duration, the object is immediately restored to it's original state and position in the world with no lasting effects.
    Strengths:

    • Versatility. This spell can be used for multiple different purposes, ranging from disarming an opponent to infiltrating a secret base.
    • Can be used to destroy nearly any type of object in a variety of ways, opening the door to creative usages of this spell.
    • Effects occur instantaneously on both attended and unattended objects, with no 'travel time' in between when the spell is cast and when the effect takes place.

    Weaknesses:

    • Since this spell automatically indicates when Fi intends to destroy an object that someone is holding, it is very easy for an attentive combatant to simply avoid this attack all together.
    • Can't do lasting damage to objects in the environment or opponent's gear.
    • This spell has no effect on any object that is considered higher than D-rank in quality.
    • If an object target is large enough, the only purpose that this spell really serves is to allow passage through that object, as the object maintains its original structural integrity despite however Fi chose to damage it.

Hello Dangerous Stranger, I am Desirée Blooms, and I will be grading your magic.

It can be seen that you have a large amount of abilities that are located in the Strengths and Weaknesses of your spells. This is not allowed, so I am going to ask you to change any Strengths and Weaknesses that pertain to this. Perhaps you can integrate them into the actual description of the spell instead of the strengths and weaknesses of said spell, as that is allowed.

As this is a major edit needed, I am just going to have you edit that for now. We can continue this grading after these edits have been applied to the strengths and weaknesses. Please bump once they have been applied!

Hmm... Not sure if this is good enough, but I'm gonna bump it anyway. If there's anything else that needs to be addressed as far as abilities in my strengths and weaknesses, please let me know what the problem areas are specifically, and I will gladly alter them.

Hi Dangerous Stranger, I would like to ask you to please refrain from double bumping a magic in the future. Yesterday, I messaged you on discord and told you that I would try to get back to grading your magic as soon as possible, as I have been very occupied IRL.

This message reads "Sorry for taking a while with your magic, I will get to it tomorrow hopefully, and if not, the next day. School is difficult". However, now as I am not as busy at the current moment, I am finally able to check out your magic again. Sorry for the wait, but as my schedule has been shaky, if more edits are necessary after this it may be the same situation. If the situation comes to a point where I know I will not be able to look at your magic, I will try to give it to another grader and have them continue from my edits. That will probably not happen, but that is a worse case scenario.

All edits will be in this color. Please bump once these have been applied.
