The Plague Pt.4
Having returned to Clover town for a while he spent much of his time helping his grandmother through the winter. Chopping wood smaller and bringing it inside whilst she tended to the flowers growth, the indoor setup they had created a few years ago still ran smoothly producing beautiful blooms all year round. A few repairs needed doing to the experior, his hands still weathered and thik from sanding down the front porch and inside again. Applying a fresh coat of sealer. The youth had been ready to start renovating the kitchen which had started to show its age. A new benchtop of stone slabs and iron had been waiting yo assemble in the shed outside when a messenger arrived. Late at night with a letter in hand the messenger had disturbed them during an evening drink. A scientist had been found, from the sounds of it the one he was speaking to considered himself to be the lead researcher. Waved away the messenger left lester to pack up a bag and head off early to close his petals and rest before an early morning start.
A lone poppy stood in the field with a bag of devices clanking on his side, the plague like growth covered a massive area, it had breached the water of a small stream whilst traversing up vines and spiraling up trees. A pit of pickness resounded within his stomach, after what had happened in the past few weeks the entire purple sludge ordeal seemed to be rather out of hand. Whilst from his surroundings he had gathered information and sample of most of the plants he still lacked a good sample of tainted moss, with a look of lost motivation he rested his hand on some untainted bark. His desire to cleanse Beanstalk village and the surrounding area of purple taint was real, yet he couldn't justify how much work he had put into the whole affair, when surely it should be more of a magic council thing. A tooth nicked at his inner lip a little, with a foot lodged in place he managed to propel himself up slowly clambouring towards the higher canopy, a foot slipped here and there, bark crumbled off yet he hauled himself onto a large branch which skewered out across the forest. Catching a moments breath after scrambling up the tree Lester crawled along the branch, slight sounds sounded below in the forest, a bear lumbered across a clearing, it shook sludge off with every step. Only one of them for now, yet from the other marks he could see in the distance there would be at least two. Drawing his bowstring back lester's breath released slowly, a relaxed form he sat perched. One two, three four, six arrows zeroed in on the bear studding its pelt with their tips. He wanted to save some arrows, yet the entire forest seemed to draw him in. Nocking another arrow he had been about to drive more into the bear, shaking himself awake his hand covering his mouth Lester's smoothly dropped down the branches moving down to the forest floor. The first four arrows had killed the bear, it had thrashed around, dirt clawed up the earth was tumbled and ripped apart. The tainted skin was rubbed off on nearby trees as it must have fought against a treetop enemy it hadn't seen.
Protected and sheltered by his sprout the signature spell saved him from the first blow which the bear had intended to fell him with, skidding backwards he muttered under his breath about not being a brittle tree. Sliding his bo away Lester mind went towards the knives at his side, the bear had been engulfed in Pollin, his dust of flower procreation enveloping the disgusting mammal. Flower sperm worked well, paralyzing the bear. Even afterwards the mage knew that the side effects would still cause the bear to lose this fight. Oh how he had changed, a little sick at himself Lester drew a face which reflected the wilting confidence he had in himself, a plague, slaughtering animals. Running across rooftops this was all too complicated for him. The bear writhed a little, paralyzing components had started to wear off just in time for his next spell to erupt out of the ground and ensnare the mammal with its beautiful coils, flowers blooming around the face of the bear he watched in horrific interest as they started to bloom within its mouth. Shuddering as much as a paralyzed animal could he noticed the odd muscle spasm and sputtering sound. A slow death of choking wasn't something which he wished on anything. Wandering closer sword loosely fit in his palm. Leaning on a tree vomit pour out of his mouth, stomach lurching at the thoughts of what had just happened the bear's mutilated body lay behind him, its head had been hacked off with four shoddy swipes, the vine had grown down the digestive tract, flowers blossoming within its throat and stomach. Would it have grown further into the intestine had it been given the time?
Hand brushed against a nearby tree as it wandered off, there remained at least one bear. he had shot three arrows into a smaller one earlier. He had put bets on it being close by. The Lineage he had inherited sure was helpful for cleaning up messes. Mouth washed out with water his exhausted face shook away loose droplets. Everything in a bag he had slowly meandered back through the forest, a feeling of hatred washed over him, he didn't want to leave the forest, the bear had looked so foul and he had killed it, he had killed it so simply. Multiple of them. He felt like slapping himself, yet he already had he feeling of being a flower trampled on.
With the equipment, all he had gathered and two dead bears that his tree thing had dragged here left in a squelching pile against the doorstep to rot like a bunch of unwanted valentines.
