SHATTERED REALITY
Primary Magic: Shattered Reality
Secondary Magic: /
Caster or Holder: Caster
Description:
Dreams, a collection of images, emotions, ideas and sensations that we experience while sleeping. The beautiful or terrifying scenarios involuntarily taking place within our minds allow for ourselves to create the most sensational images we’ll ever see. Sadly (or luckily), dreams are simply imagination at its peak. In no way is it reality, and in no way can it interfere. Shattered Reality defies this boundary between two worlds, allowing for our own dreams or nightmares to be temporarily granted existence in the real world.
Shattered Reality users have the ability to collect and clearly memorise the dreams of others and themselves. These dreams can then be temporarily turned into reality to allow for several various effects depending on what kind of image it is and what emotions are tied to it.
Due to the variety in dreams and each experience being unique, Shattered Reality allows for a lot of different effects. This let’s Shattered Reality users actively switch between offensive, defensive and supportive spells to take care of any situation thrown at them.
Shattered Reality is pretty much divided into two parts; Good Dreams and Nightmares. Dreams are often light-based and excel at supportive/defensive capabilities. They also specialize in crowd control effects to keep enemies away without doing too much harm. The dream side of Shattered Reality should not be underestimated though, considering that it’s definitely possible to dish out a lot of damage if making use of the right dreams. The nightmare side, however, just happens to be much better at doing so. Nightmares often follow a high risk/high reward construction, in which the user is forced to put oneself at a disadvantage to deal heavy damage or to create painful debuffs. Nightmares also have a negative impact on the mages mental and physical health, which is why those who specialize in the nightmare side of Shattered Reality are often affiliated with dark organizations.
Some spells do not fit into either category, as they in some way are capable of using both. This, however, isn’t very common.
Alfonse specializes in the good side of Shattered Reality, using dreams to keep his enemies at a good distance while making sure he and his allies survive. Crowd Control and Support are thus the most important to him, but he is still capable of dealing a bit of damage if necessary.
Aside from being a very powerful type of magic in the right hands, Shattered Reality is also said to be visually beautiful. The texture of the abilities is comparable with that of a galaxy, colourful and mystical. The exception to this is basically every nightmare-based ability, as they tend to be very dark and bland.
Strengths
> Versatility: He can use any dream he has ever witnessed, which obviously allows for great versatility on the battlefield.
> Supportive: Both good dreams and (in rare cases) bad dreams can be used to buff and heal allies, allowing for Shattered Reality to be used in a supportive manner.
> Friends on the other side: Though not the main focus of Shattered Reality, it can be used to temporarily grant life to good or bad characters that can aid Alfonse on the battlefield in various ways.
> Crowd Control: Knock-backs, Slows, Stuns, Blinds and so on, Shattered Reality allows for a lot of debuff effects that can turn the tide of battle.
> Solid Defence: Alfonse can utilize Shattered Reality to protect himself and allies via barriers and a couple other tools.
Weaknesses:
> Self-immobilizing: Some abilities require Alfonse to stand still or slow him down heavily, which can give the enemy a large advantage. Overusing Shattered Reality can also make him feel extremely tired up to the point of just making him fall asleep.
> Self-damaging: Through the use of Nightmare based spells, Alfonse can sometimes accidentally hurt himself or his teammates considering it's quite dangerous to use the darker abilities.
> Lacking: Due to Shattered Reality not having a main purpose and instead is very versatile, it does not exceed in any particular area. This could potentially cause for a disadvantage.
> Reliant: Being capable of turning every dream into reality is great, but it does make Shattered Reality very reliant on collecting and having usable dreams (which isn’t the easiest thing to do). Otherwise it's pretty much useless.
> Personal Focus: The damaging side of Shattered Reality is mostly found on the nightmare side, an area that Alfonse doesn't particularly expertise in. Due to him focusing on the good dreams, Alfonse's version of Shattered Reality lacks high damage when compared to other types of magic.
> Mentally harsh: Overuse of nightmares can cause for stress and drastic negative changes on one's own way of thinking (Could make someone more pessimistic or aggressive etc). It also causes for a higher frequency of nightmares, which is definitely not enjoyable.
Lineage:
- Nature's Blessings:
Description: Aeons ago, when ancient and mythic beings roamed the world. There was a race called the children of the forest. They are one with nature and as such they were bestowed with longevity and the ability to vanish within the trees. Eventually, with the uprising of the humans, they were forced to the innermost sanctum of the forests. However, a handful of them insisted on staying where they were, regardless of the impending human contact. Some say some of them managed to co-mingle with the humans, but that was just hearsay...or is it?
Ability: It grants the user greater stamina allowing them to last longer in battles. Also grants the ability Vanish, a skill that allows the user to be invisible so as long as he/she is near vegetation(group of trees, shrubs or tall weeds) if they are not moving.
Usage: Passive. The user can still be sensed through magical presence and other senses but this will only help others know the vicinity the user is in and not their exact position.
