A drop of light distinguishes the rebel's spirit, the will to ignite a revolution. Among the wielder's of the Glory Soul, you will find a vast array of abilities, no two alike. This panoply of magical talent can be confusing, some even theorizing the seemingly deliberate misdirection of a tradition which cannot be easily defined and is nearly impossible to teach. Practitioners will often preach the complex nature of the magic's teachings and view their power as personal and secretive. In truth, the Glory Soul is born from the wielder's will; a literal manifestation of desire.
Forged from deeply personal desire, the Glory Soul affords its user whatever power is necessary to accomplish what they want most. This is not to say it allows a wielder to simply perform any desired effect, but rather the Glory Soul bestows a single set of skills, ones catered to the most primal desires in the wielder's heart. In this way, this magic is a precious gift; if nurtured, the Glory Soul allows its users to accomplish virtually any dream.
In Icaro's case, her magic is known as the Glory Soul Redemption Flame; born from her will to be free. The manifestation of Icaro's Redemption Flame cannot be hidden; while using her magic, Icaro's body takes on various properties - Icaro opens five eyes; manifestations of white and gold flame on her hands, feet, chest and forehead. In addition, the Glory Soul ignites a bright noose of flame around Icaro's neck. The actual flames manifested by this transformation do not burn and are not damaging on their own, though spells crated through the Glory Soul's effects could cause them to become dangerous. Though the manifestation appears to be fire, it is a creation of Icaro's will itself and has no elemental alignment at all.
Icaro draws all her magic from within her body while her Redemption Flame is active and uses the magic to enhance her physical capabilities or perform touch based techniques. Icaro's magic is not known for its versatility and can only produce a limited number of effects, most of which relate to movement and enhanced physical skills. The Redemption Flame can also be used to purge Icaro's body of negative effects, rejuvenate or reinvigorate her body. Minute control or sophisticated magical effects are not possible with Icaro's Glory Soul.
{ strengths }
• Will of Freedom. Icaro's magic is a literal manifestation of her will to be free; it grants her the abilities needed to free her of oppressors and as such it specializes in overcoming negative effects placed directly on Icaro. Whether physically bound or magically afflicted, Icaro's Redemption Flame empowers her ability to break free. The magic also performs well against defensive structures or spells that would impede the wielder's progress or restrict them in some way.
• Impressive. The Glory Soul is never subtle; Icaro produces a particularly fearsome manifestation. The flames generated while Icaro uses her Glory Soul are rich shades of gold, red and white. There is no way for Icaro to circumvent the shimmering hurricane, but at least it looks impressive to an observer. A side effect of this is that even low ranking spells performed with this magic often include flourishes of impressive magical power; even if they are effectively meaningless. Exact 'impressive' effects detailed on a post-by-post basis.
{ weaknesses }
• Activation. Though quick, Icaro's magic must be activated before it can be used. Manifesting the Redemption Flame takes roughly a quarter of a second but this micro-channel cannot be circumvented.
• One Trick Pony. Icaro's magic is not versatile. In essence, the breadth of her abilities could be described as: Icaro's magic is capable of performing effects which enhance or empower her in some way. The Redemption Flame cannot be used to create structures, projectiles or complex magical effects. Fine control over the effects of Icaro's magic is also impossible, she cannot manipulate her magic into particular forms or use it to actually change her body. The Redemption Flame is the heart's desire for freedom, it is not designed to oppress others or empower the wielder to do much more than escape and survive. Ranged effects created by her spells are limited to small concussive waves such as those created by a powerful strike.
• Short-lived. Effects and spells utilizing the Redemption Flame are only ever instantaneous. This may empower a single body movement such as a jump, strike or parry; it may cleanse the user of harmful effects or it may simply move the user from one place to another but once the effect is performed, the spell effects always end. Icaro's magic cannot be used to perform sustained, lingering or timed spells. Instant effects are generally limited to 1 post (time can be somewhat hard to quantify).
• Obvious. This is as much tied into the Impressive strength as it is a weakness of its own. The manifestation of Icaro's magic cannot be hidden. The flaming eyes open over clothing and the rope of her noose extends upwards several meters into the air if outside. Bright light and flashy techniques may be impressive to behold but it makes Icaro virtually incapable of surprising opponents with her magic or catching people off guard. No matter what she does there is always a tell tale sign of when she is and isn't capable of performing her magic.
{ lineage }
{ unique abilities }
• Essence Dance. The Glory Soul draws its power from within, surging throughout the body whenever a spell is performed. In Icaro's case, her Redemption Flame produces a peculiar effect when she uses her magic; the residual magic left in her body immediately following a spell cast causes her more easily flow through space, increasing her speed. Performing a spell using the Glory Soul Redemption Flame increases Icaro's speed by 25% for one post. Bonus does not stack.
• Unbreakable Will. For Glory Soul practitioners, mastery of this power is as much about self discovery as it is training; mastering your heart's desire is the key, after all. Icaro sees the Redemption Flame as a sacred treasure, activating its power is symbolic of her will to be free. Whenever Icaro activates the Redemption Flame, she removes all negative mental effects (eg; fear, confusion, rage effects) that afflict her mind, morale or otherwise target her mental state.
• Counterpoise. Icaro's life is predicated on her ability to read a situation and adapt to any scenario. When she fights, Icaro enters something of an 'analysis trance', during which, her ability to observe, accrue, process and retain information and stimuli accelerate immensely. Icaro analyzes her surroundings and processes information so well she is easily capable of tracking multiple opponents, allies and weapons while performing even complex mathematical equations in her head. Curiously, this bonus is not available while Icaro's Redemption Flame is activated.
