    Job approval on PG.33/Pg. 11

    Job Form:
    An Explanation:

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
    ------------------
Sorano blinked twice, looking utterly bewildered. Brown eyes slowly turned upwards. More blinking. A black hole above her head closed just as her eyes focused on it, and her fingers found the odd object that had fallen on her head and was now in her lap. Turning it over in her hands, she frowned as she recognized the item. She had held only a few of these over the past year, and only two "people" if you could call them that, would be able to generate these. A shiny, smooth black surface, tiny wires running across it and throughout it. Bordered with purple lights, the circuit sat there, with Sorano holding it like it was a bomb about to blow up. Oh... great... One of those Lexa Grimoires probably needed help again... Of course, she would need to call Gamon now and go off to help them again in that labyrinth or something.

She slowly pushed herself up, looking around the guild hall. "Oi, Kinzoku-san? Tykva-san?" She yelled into the crowd, straining to be heard over the din. A small tap was felt on her shoulder, and Sorano turned around to see a guild member she saw hanging around with the dragon slayer in question occasionally. "Mm, Sorano-chan, Gamon and Tykva are off on an overnight job right now. They should be back tomorrow," he said good-naturedly, rubbing the top of the younger mage's head. The letter mage frowned slightly, disliking how she was often treated like a young child. It was rather annoying when you were trying to appear professional and mature. "Ah, I see, thank you," she said politely, before looking around for her exceed companion. Catching the gaze of the tabby, Sorano gestured with her head for Hoshi to come over.

"W-what is it, Sorano-chan?" Hoshi stuttered, shivering at the prospect of bad news. "I believe we have a help request from one of the Lexas again," the letter mage responded, glancing down at the circuit. "Mm, let's see... how does this work..." Conjuring a mirror, Sorano reflected the image of the circuit onto it to see if s could note it's energy field more clearly. Suddenly, as soon as light from the circuit hit the mirror, Transboze Lexa's voice rang out loud and clear. Sorano's expression grew more and more thoughtful as the rather erratic message burst through, surprising many people around her. "Come on, Hoshi, let's find someone else to come with us," Sorano said brusquely as soon as the message ended, leaving the area utterly silent for a few seconds. Glancing around the hall, she would attempt to find someone who wasn't completely drunk, had a bearable personality, and was a high enough rank.

Now that would probably be the hardest choice in this whole job.

Fairy Tail. Perhaps the only guild in all of Fiore where at any given time, ninety percent of it's members could be found drunk, either at the bar, bickering about something that didn't matter at all, or brawling for some reason that didn't matter at all. A chunk of stone suddenly went rocketing through the air straight at Brennan, but he instinctively tilted to the side as he poured a drink for someone who was probably too drunk already. The stone thudded against the wall and was about to fall and break dozens of bottles of alcohol, but Brennan brought his left leg up backwards and kicked the rock with all of his strength, sending it flying in the other direction. He sighed and placed the glass he was holding down onto the bar with a loud clunk. Brennan shook his head, walking around the bar to escape from behind it, he had to take a break from being an accessory to people's drunkenness. "No, I'm taking the goddamn job!" He heard someone slur, and shook his head, ignoring them.

As he slowly weaved his way through the mass of drunk mages, Brennan caught a glimpse of something that promised to be interesting. A young letter mage named Sorano, who clutched a black circuit in her hand, was having her head patted by someone Brennan didn't know all that well. He didn't care about the person patting her head, but the circuit peaked his interest, so he diverted his course, instead of walking around aimlessly, his destination was now Sorano.

He waved as he approached the young girl and her exceed, which was a surprising pet, for someone who was not a Dragon Slayer. However, Sorano wouldn't even get a chance to see him, because right as he began to wave, two random drunken brawlers threw themselves in front of Brennan, each one apparently attempting to strangle the other... Brennan sighed as he made his way around them, but by the time he had done so, Sorano was inspecting the circuit in a mirror. Suddenly, the a noise began to escape the circuit, an erratic message that could not understand, at all. He was startled by this, but didn't show it, still calmly making his way towards Sorano. "Hello! Sorano, was it?" He asked as he approached the girl, waving. "I'm Brennan, if you don't remember. If you don't mind me asking... What is that circuit you're holding in your hand for? Also, perhaps more importantly, did you understand that message at all?"

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Glancing up, Sorano noticed an unfortunately familiar figure walking over. Brennan Skyllon, huh? The last time she'd seen him? Well, um, erm... the last time Sorano had seen the man was when he was stark naked and covered in flames. Having been one of the few who could bear to look without some horrific expression appearing on her face, she naturally gave him some clothes and left. Not the most amazing experience, see. His younger brother hadn't exactly been the most normal person, either. Though Sebastian had mysteriously vanished some years ago, he had definitely put the letter mage through some of the most awkward moments of her life. It must be a family gene, then...

    "Oh, um, hi, Skyllon-san..."
she trailed off, looking at Lexa's circuit. Might Brennan be one of those few people in the guild who fit her requirements? Hana was out travelling as usual, Julius was somewhere else, and Zecarayus, well, who knew what he did? Apollo was surely busy, too, and Brennan showed no signs of being drunk. His personality though... The Skyllon family wasn't exactly the most amazing in her books. But, then again, there appeared to be not too many choices, so she certainly couldn't be picky. Tilting the circuit towards the elemental, she began a brief explanation, "Mm, Kinzoku-san and I have been helping out some mages with a pretty weird situation on their hands, and I am confident that this came from one of them. It appeared to be a message for help, which means I'll probably have to head back to the Ancient Ruins to check things out since Kinzoku-san and Tykva-san aren't here right now."

She would flash the magically produced mirror at the circuit again, replaying the message. "It's pretty obvious she's in trouble, and the Grimoires always offer very good rewards, so I'm planning on going." Now, being the extremely direct person she was, Sorano would turn to Brennan, saying, "Come with us on this job, please. I highly doubt anyone else here at the moment would be clear-minded enough to go anyways." She gestured slightly at the crowd in the hall, suddenly looking very old and very tired. It was rather difficult being one of those few people who were sensible in the guild.

Slouching as she walked, Hana groaned in pain as her back was sore from the heavy back pack full of merchandise she had been carrying around with her. Tamka was left at the guildhall with the others. She knew Tamka wouldn't be comfortable with the terrain, and so left him behind with the promise that she'd bring back some exotic sweets for him, and promise kept, walking through the guild hall, Tamka had been waiting at her usual reading spot, his eyes sparkling and tail wagging like a dog after landing his eyes on her. Laughing, the silvernette walked over to her companion, swinging the backpack from her shoulders to out in front of her as she opened it to pull out the vanilla cake with pineapple fruit on the sides as a treat and set it in front of him. Immediately, he would dig in. The two didn't need to exchange words to know what the other was thinking, and so feeling a little worn out, Hana went over to the bar to get some water- unlike the drunkards surrounding her. But.... on the way, she saw a peculiar sight. Sorano was holding a mirror and a circuit that seemed to create a sound that couldn't really be understood, and so in her curiosity, of course, she made her way over to the small girl. Brennan had been there as well, and so giving a slight greeting nod to him, she turned to Sorano with a light smile. "Heyya Sorano. What's up?" She tried to be casual, but she had obviously failed as her curious gaze kept moving over toward the two objects in the younger mage's hands. She tilted her head, thinking of an explanation for this, but knew better than to pry into her business. If she wanted Hana to know, she would tell her. In the meantime, with Tamka.... "UGHHHHHHHHHH! I'M SO FULL! WHY DID I EAT THE WHOLE THING?!" The poor little raccoon had groaned..... it was a very very very bad idea for him to do that.... now he's gonna have a stomach ache. v-v

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
As she waited for the ace's answer, a head of white hair suddenly popped into view. Ah... so many white haired people in her life, Sorano often had to think a moment before determining which snow-haired person this was. In this case, it was none other than her guildmate Hana Akki. The energetic, curious girl glanced at the circuit and mirror, curiosity evident in her expression. "What's up?" was what exited her mouth, but her icy eye kept darting back to glance at the items Sorano held. Doing her best to ignore Tamka's anguished wail behind them, the letter mage nodded in response, glancing up to see what decision Brennan had made.

Eh!?! Where was the flaming mage? Drawing her brow together in a flustered and disapproving gesture, Sorano looked off towards another table, scowl on her face as she noticed the ace laughing with another mage. Ah, well, he was at that age after all, where men in Fairy Tail got rambunctious, loud, noisy, and first decided to start drinking all the time. Who then? The Lexa twins' jobs were never easy, and always filled with extra, unpredictable dangers. Sorano was by no means going to embark on this mission alone. Sure, she got Hoshi with her, but the exceed had no particular purpose in combat besides a support Sorano both physically and mentally.

Glancing around, the dark gaze once more alighted on the page face of her teammate. She didn't recall having ever done a job with her now, had she? Blinking twice, the one with a canvas of night draped upon her head nodded, turning to face Hana. "Akki-san, would you mind embarking on this job with me? I've received a call for her from a previous client. These missions I normally perform with Kinzoku-san, but he's away today and this one is pretty urgent. As one of my teammates, I trust you the most here. I don't see Seas-san or Aelle-san anywhere either, so it's just you. Please?" Though the emotionless mage hated to admit it, she was quite the cute one when she was in such situations. Often forgetting her age, she didn't quite realize that younger girls usually appeared adorable to older ones.

Having nodded in response,  the younger mage averted her gaze to where Brennan stood, causing Hana to do the same thing. But.... He wasn't there anymore.... Looking around Hana's oceanic orb soon landed on the Fairy Tail ace and of course.... He was at a table getting buzzed along with other male members. Sighing, Hana just shook her head in a dissaproving gesture. Looking over to Sorano, she replaced her dissaproving look back to her previously curious one.  When Sorano herself was finish with her thoughts, she as well turned back, beginning to ask a question that sparked Hana's interest. "Umm, sure, I have nothing better to do now anyways. But if you don't mind, what exactly is this job about? Do you know?" Deep down inside,  Hana really didn't care for the job details as she would learn them soon enough or could briefly have the objective explained to her on the way,  buuuuuut, she's been told by a certain ginger that her eagerness would get her killed one day. She didn't really want that soooo yeah. She decided it would be better for her of she began to look into details before barging in. It of course made Tamka happy but.... Then again it didn't really help at all as his lady still chose dangerous and scarring jobs such as the previous zombie ones she's been on.... yikes. But now wasn't the time to think of that as she called the winged raccoon over.  Groaning, he complied,  and he would be placed atop Hana's head,  ruffling his fur and rolling over to lay on his back,  "dead" like somebody would be if they were in a food coma. Not that Sue could blame him, he most definently was.... "By the way Tamka.... We're going on a job. Try getting over your food coma as soon as you can, okay? It'll be bad otherwise." "Why..... Didn't you just get back from your travels?" "Yes, but I would like to do more with my life than just laying around. Now get ready." And from that,  another groan escaped the small, furry creature as he rubbed his heads with his paws in displeasure.

OOC: I was gonna add color to the part where Tamka and Hana talk but I accidently pressed something else and that didn't save so yeah.... I just said no and didn't do it.

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Not even a single hesitation. Raising her eyebrow in the slightest of moments, the letter mage had to admit she was surprised at the lack of thought the ice mage put into the decision. However, that was soon quickly patched up with a hurried question on what the job would be about. A relaxation of the eyebrow, each follicle falling into place. "See, this client has come to Kinzoku-san and me several times with issues regarding a twin sister she has. We have assisted both twins in their problems before, and it appears that one of them require our help again. The reason is very unclear, as the recording within this circuit she has sent is very muffled and broken. I find it impossible to make out anything to specific. You?"

Turning her pale face towards Hana, Sorano would tilt her head to a side with the question. As she awaited the slayer's analysis on the situation, she let her eyes slip into that realm of color, auras of all sorts swirling about her. Cutting out all the excess noise, she focused her gaze upon those of Hana and Tamka's. Yup, just as she expected. Hana was up and ready to go, the question being just something she felt was necessary. As one of the most adventurous and active members of the guild, it was something that could only be expected of the chipper girl. Meanwhile, Tamka would continue to whine and groan, howling on and on about stomachaches and whatnot.

As she witnessed the conversation between raccoon and slayer, Hoshi couldn't help but feel something like wistfulness. What was between Tamka and Hana looked like nothing she could ever have with Sorano. Yes, she loved the letter mage to no end and would willingly lay her life down for the girl, and knew the same was true to an extent with Sorano. However, the fact that Sorano was emotionless was something that had always troubled the exceed. Naturally, she would never admit that the reason she was worried was because Sorano was so unstable, but did away with some other excuses.

Act III: Of Bookworms and Flaming People and Whatever a Paracidium is(Job/Brennan) Empty Re: Act III: Of Bookworms and Flaming People and Whatever a Paracidium is(Job/Brennan)

Post by Hana Akki 23rd October 2016, 1:16 pm

After Sorano had explained the situation Hana nodded in understanding,  but her curiosity still hadn't subsided. What was the message? That question haunted her,  and so looking between the circuit and the mirror she asked, "Do you mind playing the message for me so I can hear it myself?" In the meantime,  Tamka struggled to push himself up to his feet,  knowing not to argue with his stubborn lady any further. After succeeding in doing so, he jumped off of the silvernette's hair and scurried towards the little tree house they had made as their new home. As Hana would listen to the message trying to make out any details and words from the message,  Tamka would pack everything into a bag and drag it back into the riled guild hall. He brought crackers,  pears, peaches, a blanket,  and a couple bottles of water. Thinking of nothing else they could bring,  Tamka dragged it back to Hana in which she would slip the back pack on. Like Sorano,  even with her heightened sense of hearing, she couldn't make out anything. The message was too muffled to hear anything. "Well  that is strange. I can't make anything out of it either, but if it is one of the twins that sent the message im sure they'll tell us what was in the message when we get there. Besides, I like adventure, its more amusing than the stuff that goes on here everyday." She wasn't really lying when she said that. Everyday at the guild hall the day would start out jokingly and peaceful until BAM! Drinks are handed out to most everybody in the guild hall,  of course with the exception of the children in which some are just naturally hyper. At that point, the guild turns into a mess. Everybody brawling out over little things to practibly nothing. Due to the unnecessary roughness,  Hana would usually spend her time traveling,  sometimes even without Tamka who became rather amused by their fellow guildmates brawling it out. She loved her guild, but least on this job there would actually be a reason to fight.

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Frowning in a concerned manner towards the ice mage, Sorano pondered the issue. Knowing that as a dragon slayer, Hana had enhanced hearing, this was rather worrying. She did agree with her teammate, however, on her reasoning that they would find out what was up once they arrived at their destination. Now that last line? It was only to be expected from such a character as Hana. Adventure, yes. Action for a reason, and reasonable fun. Only what could be expected from the whimsical youth. Seeing as Hana could probably get by pretty well with Tamka for transportation, she looked towards Hoshi, checking if the smaller exceed was up for the task.

To the surprise of the taciturn mage, the tabby looked surprisingly determined today. Smiling cheerily at Sorano, Hoshi smiled bravely. "Come on, Sorano-chan, I've been to the Ancient Ruins enough times by now right? I'm pretty sure things will turn out okay!" Nodding back at the exceed, now a good circle larger than she had been the first time they had set out with Gamon and Tykva to help out the twins. My, she hadn't realized, but her dearest companion had indeed grown. Nodding over at her teammates to ensure they were prepared, she announced their departure. "Let's go, if there is nothing left to discuss."

And now they soared over Fiore, over lush green forests and rushing rivers all over the land. Hoshi's wingspan had increased as well, helping her fly faster, something she felt immensely proud of. The changes the pair had gone through since those shaky first days in Fairy Tail were quite astonishing, really. Seeing the familiar stone pyramids below, hidden within the folds of a forest, the pair descended. "Okay, last time we were here, it was this ruin we entered to find the lab where the client was. I'm fairly certain we should head down this route this time as well, but I would like to hear your opinions first as well. If we do go down, I'm sure you don't need me to remind d you of caution, for the curcuit's message should have been sufficient to warn you."

Post by Hana Akki 5th November 2016, 3:11 pm

With Hoshi being determined to go on foot and flight,  Hana became rather happy, knowing that she wouldnt have to go through the trip with the urge to throw up. Oh how she so rather dearly missed those times where she would be able to ride in a carriage without getting a sudden sickness that made her feel like passing out even though she couldn't from how spinny the world would be. But alas, those days are over,  and she could only deal with it by avoiding mobile transpatation,  her raccoon companion becoming her carriage. Making sure they we're all set,  the four began to fly over the land of Fiore past beautiful sights that Hana noted in her head to come back and visit some time. Of course,  after this trip,  she would have to go alone and allow Tamka some rest seeing as how he grew tired more easily than other flying creatures. She should really train him to boost his stamina...
That only lead her to think of tactics that only her mentor and previous guildmaster Heero would think of when training somebody else. Sure they we're overwhelming and doing, but over time she came to realize that they actually worked. Torturing,  yes, but they worked. 'Hmmm,  if that's the case,  I should make him fly ten miles every day!' Oh goodness,  she got too many traits from that guy...
Soon enough,  the fairy tail mates came across some stone pyramids,  surrounded by a lush green forest. 'That's pretty...' Hana would think as she examined it, and to her pleasing, that seemed to be their destination. Obviously,  since Hoshi was descending downward towards the structures with Tamka in suit. 'Yes! Pretty and creepy scenery exploration!' She would most likely be the first to die in a horror movie without her powers, but never mind that, since this is not a horror movie, the writer is just putting in her smart remarks to makes things a bit more funny even though she's most likely failing miserably. Oh well,  she's at least getting the word count in with her rambling right around now and it's time for her to stop breaking the fourth wall. Hana nodded in response to the information Sorano gave her before speaking up. "I think it's best if we look around first,  the entrance could hold some pretty valuable clues as to what's going on. Afterwards let's head down together. I'll tell you if I hear or see anything unusual."

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Sorano nodded at her teammate's suggestion, hearing sense in the plan. This was well and manageable enough. Turning the other direction of where Hana and Tamka would be going, she carefully began investigation of the man's entrance. There had definitely been at least one or two people walking around here, for much grass was still slightly flat. It couldn't have been too long ago, then.A spent circuit laid on the ground nearby, but that wasn't definitive proof of anything. Transboze Lexa could have used it for anything from checking for enemies to fighting them off, and both possibilities were equal. After scanning it over with her own magic, Sorano determined it wasn't a trap and carefully placed it within one of her abundant mirrors.

Hoshi followed along carefully from the air, taking a bird's-eye viewpoint of the situation. "Things don't seem to be much too worrisome from up here," she called down, wings flapping easily in the slight updraft. "Same here. No signs to confirm much, just that Transboze Lexa was here." Heading back towards the gaping black mouth of an entrance, the letter mage awaited Hana's arrival. Peering curiously into the darkness, she strained to hear anything of suspicion. Perhaps Hana would do better with her slayer's hearing, but Sorano heard nothing but empty silence. Then again, the labyrinth of a laboratory had been ginormous, with an empty cavernous chamber filling the first room.

Now, she sent her aural senses within the underground realm, scanning past the microorganisms and insects that made the earth their abode, all busy, tiny sparkling bits of bright aura that she did her best to filter out. Barely hitting any human life forms at all, her consciousness brushed one or two, but such brushes were so brief and fleeting they were barely felt. Slowly, she retracted her senses not liking how inconclusive the data gathered so far was. Perhaps Hana had had better luck? Turning to wait for Hana, the following question would be directed at the ice slayer. "Have you had any results? Hoshi and I have not been especially successful, so perhaps you might have something? We were able to confirm she was here, and there are people in the lab down there." She gestured at the mouth of gaping black.

After Sorano had agreed with her plan to split up a bit before going deeper into the ruins, Hana began to travel the opposite way of her guild mate and start searching high and low for any clues there might be hidden. She was honestly excited, because she felt like a detective and well, in this case she was one. She remembered that when she was small the ice dragon Yuki would tell her stories of people like that and all of their thrilling adventures. Even when the mystery solved was to be very simple, she still found the adventures that it took to get those answers interesting. Scanning her side of the room with her oceanic eyes, she couldn't help but notice the details on the walls. Not that there was anything special about them but Hana just liked them... they made the place seem a bit more homey, as strange as it was to say- let alone think- something like that. Although she found many interesting things, none of them caught the attention of being an object of importance to the young dragon slayer. Appearing to be just broken glass and well- trash along with dying vegetation, she discarded them and made her way back towards Hoshi and Sorano, in which she would be faced with the question on whether or not she found anything useful. "Well, I didn't really find any information as useful as yours. Just that people are major litter bugs here." She informed as she shook her head in a disapproving gesture. "We should probably start heading down now, but we should do it with caution." After getting Sorano's approval, Hana would begin to make her way towards the pitch black entry way, stopping first to sniff and listen for any near presences before nodding her head in approval and walking side by side with her teammate down to the lab in which they soon they would come face to face with a couple scientists who had littered themselves with circuits. Easy to beat, yes. However, they would be especially creepy since the two girls and their companions would soon find that they covered themselves with blood and won't stop smiling.

(I wanted to add to the thrill, don't judge meh.)

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Soon enough, the dragon slayer and her exceed came as expected, having returned with no great information or whatnot. It was to be expected. Lexa – no, Transboze Lexa was no idiot, even if she was always looking for help from somebody or the other. She knew to hide her tracks, so even the circuit had been an extremely lucky find. Following after her white-haired teammate, the small group descended the black mouth into the familiar labyrinth below. Stepping into the space, Sorano was immediately hit by the memories the eerie, spooky cavern emitted. Her first time here, Bellaria had explained to her that it had been a transboze’s labyrinth, and the two had gone on quite the journey to save the Lexa Grimoire at that time. Later, the person who’d brought her into the Flame of Phoenix family, Gamon Kinzoku had showed up to help. Ever since then, she felt as though the two had come here to help Transboze Lexa or Lexa Grimoire deal with their family issues. Really serious family issues, that is.

Even now, it appeared that the twins’ family still hadn’t regained normalcy as suddenly, two scientists of extremely suspicious appearance appeared at the end of the grating walkway, displaying eerie smiles on their faces. At least, the time before they’d worn masks. It didn’t help Sorano’s prediction on Transboze Lexa’s condition at all either tha they had obviously been using those dangerous looking sharp metal objects they held in their hands. At the immediate sight of such tools, a certain exceed immediately hid her head beneath paws, cowering at the gruesome images that quickly popped into her head. “Iyaaa, Sorano, they’re scarier than last time!” Hoshi’s fur bristled upwards in a ridge across her back, fear spiking in her aura. By now, the letter mage was rarely worried about the exceed, as she seemed to get by just fine.

One of them slowly raised a bone knife, a silvery sheen gleaming menacingly from under the coat of rusted blood. Slowly, the other fell to the back while the first one advanced. It appeared that the scientists of the Lexas’ family had learned strategy as well. How unfortunate. Leaning her body into a more balanced stance, Sorano began to sift through her inventory of spells, preparing one as the first goon advanced. As he advanced, she cast forward a stream of letters, bursting into a great wall of flame that barreled its way towards her opponents. The third battle for this client had begun.

Post by Hana Akki 1st March 2017, 10:54 pm

At the sight of the creepy scientists,  Hana's eyes had widened. It wasn't necessarily that she had been afraid of them,  very much unlike the Ginger furred raccoon hiding behind her; but it was the fact that those guys sparked a memory in her. They themselves... As people weren't acquainted with her... But as personalities they were. It made her uncomfortable beyond relief,  causing her to repeatedly shift her weight from one foot to the other.  Lost on memory lane,  Hana hadn't noticed the battle that had began until Sorano's letters began making their way toward the enemy, in which gaze Hana's focus was snapped in a specific direction. Why was the other guy standing back watching the first scientist fight? That wasn't teamwork,  jeez, how messed up could these guys possibly be? Well,  she had "spoken" or rather "thought" too soon. As she was sending him a judgmental look,  out of nowhere he took out a dead rat from his pocket and.... Oh.... Gross..... He ate it..... That's disgusting. Please give me a minute, narrator-chan needs to compose herself.... *goes to have a heart attack from the horrific site*
    *comes back*
Okay, I'm back. That was certainly uhh.... Special.... ANYWAYS,  Hana gagged at the site. Yeah, she didn't want to see him anymore. Not even caring to prepare a spell she ran over to the guy and punched him with B Rank power, sending him flying into the wall. Her gaze was fiery,  and by how red her face was you could definently tell he was angered. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOURE DOING?! DO YOU KNOW HOW DISGUSTING THAT IS?! WHAT IF YOU GOT RABEES FROM EATING THAT THING, NOT TO MENTION,  DO YOU WANT TO MAKE ME LOSE MY APPETITW FOR MY WEEK?! ARE YOU A TODDLER?! WHAT WOULD YOUR OTHER SAY IF SHE FOUND YOU EATING THAT. BAD!" Out of nowhere Hana got a rolled up newspaper and hit the guy on the head with it as she nagged at him for his serious health issues. Tamka,  now exposed on the battle field looked at his aster and sweatdropped. She herself was special...

(HAHA! BE PROUD OF ME IMOUTO-CHAN!  I HAZ POSTEEEDNSNSJANAN!!!!!!

Lol, at the beginning you would think I was gonna get into deep feels with this. XD)

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
For a moment, after the spell had been released, the letter mage would suddenly realize… Hana wasn’t joining in? Confused, she would turn to look back at the ice mage, only to spot extreme irritation in her aura. What was going through the mind of her teammate? Even as her gaze was fixated upon the girl, she followed her icy gaze over to the remaining scientist that hung back. Ah. Somehow, he had most certainly managed to piss the older mage off, and it wasn’t going to be pretty…

She’d guessed right. Only a mere moment later, the scientist neatly plucked a rat from his lab coat, dangling it up grotesquely in the eerie light. For a moment, the moment was suspended there, the mangled little limbs whirling and flailing about. Then, it was all over in one fatal plunge into his mouth. Immediately, quite different from Hana’s reaction, Sorano began to consider: Was that some method of powering-up for him? Did it provide him strength? Was the rat something important? Hopefully they wouldn’t have to dissect him to pull the rat out… That would be rather unpleasant an experience. It seemed that Hana was of the same opinion, as she made a gagging noise in the back of her throat. Emotions flew every which way, and as the letter mage and exceed watched on in slight amusement, she marched her way right up to the man and socked him in the face.

It was quite a sight to behold, as the two scientists paused briefly, unsure of what they were to do next. The first scientist had already been burnt by the fire spell, but was well enough to still stand there and watch, apparently. Perhaps there needed to be a bit more of an attack? Still unsure of how to respond to Hana’s barrage of insults and such, the scientist would hesitate, part of the rat’s tail still dangling almost comically from his mouth. “Huh?” The bewildered noise was quickly cut off by a well-aimed smack of newspaper form the furious teen. Wait, newspaper? Where the heck had that come from? Ah well, it was all irrelevant to Sorano herself as she lifted her arm, taking advantage of the momentary pause in battle to go on the offensive.

A gust of wind sprung up from the transparent words, bursting free of their literary confinement and into a reality of powerful gustings. Soaring hard and fast at the scientists, she would call out to her friend: “Hana! Tamka! Duck!” With that, she would snag an arrow from her quiver, fitting it securely into the flimsy bow that had been made to suit her small amount of physical strength. As the wind consumed the scientists in its fury, the letter mage would move closer, remaining immune to the effects of the spell as its caster. Here, amid it all, she would move straight over to the now toppling scientists, holding the arrow point at the back of the burnt one’s neck. Surely Hana would be able to deal with the other one.

Act III: Of Bookworms and Flaming People and Whatever a Paracidium is(Job/Brennan) Empty Re: Act III: Of Bookworms and Flaming People and Whatever a Paracidium is(Job/Brennan)

Post by Hana Akki 2nd May 2017, 9:55 pm

As Hana had been smacking the evil scientist with a newspaper that's whereabouts were unknown even to the ice mage herself, she stopped out of pure shock as a gust of wind made it's way through the black hole of a hallway out of no where. Looks like Sorano had decided that then would be a great time to go on the offensive as Hana had distracted the two enemies with her nagging, and well, she was right. YAYYY!!!! HANA WAS HELPFUL! But.... she wouldn't be for much longer if she didn't heed the small girl's warnings. Grabbing Tamka by the tail, Hana quickly ducked and covered Tamka by curling herself up in a ball on the floor. The scientists were stunned. They hadn't been expecting this, and it froze them out of shock; hesitation filled their beings before they realized what they had to do and they went toppling over by the strong force of the gusty wind. Hana looked on at Sorano in amazement. The girl was certainly strong, she'd give her that. As she was thinking that, she noticed that Sorano had seemed to have her focus fixated on the burnt one. Guessing that means that she'd be taking on the one that she scolded for eating a rat, she hopped to it and got to fighting. There was only one problem though.... although Sorano was immune to the force of the wind, she herself wasn't. None the less, she got prepared for when the wind would finally die down, and while she was at it used the fleeting air to her aid and used it to propel heavy rocks further than how she could normally throw, making sure to aim at the scientists limbs. He didn't need so much as to die seeing as how he could be a helpful source of information. That is... if he even talks. Either way, Hana just couldn't bring herself to take a life, even with the neutral state her guild is in.

Quick note: Sorry for taking so long! I was busy with the musical as you know but I found time tonight to post and will be able to get online way more next week as I won't have to stay at school for very long anymore and my last performance is on Saturday. Sorry imouto-chan! Luv ya!

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Watching, Sorano breathed a sigh of relief when the silver-haired mage pulled the exceed down to the ground, huddling up into a ball on the ground. The wind gusted easily over them, and sent the scientists reeling back. Memories would pause at the back of the letter mage’s mind, remembering how she had sent feeble little bursts of wind at opponents as a D-ranked mage. She was impressed, herself, at how much she had improved. She stood there, pressing the tip of the arrow into the burnt scientist’s neck, watching as the wind began to die down and the ice mage rose to send a barrage of rocks at them. Instantly, the scientist realized the disappearance of the younger mage, and realized the strange pressure at his back. “H-huh?” Nervously, his tongue passed over chapped lips as he put together what was happening. “H-hey, can’t we c-come to an agreement?” The guild master could feel the hairs on his neck trembling against the metal arrow tip, and spoke up in a strong, emotionless tone. “Where is Lexa Grimoire?” It was put out very simply, but the man immediately tensed up at that. “W-who?”

But Sorano immediately sensed the falsehood in his aura, narrowing her intense gaze at him. “I can tell you’re lying, there’s no use in trying anything on me.” Her voice wasn’t necessarily aggressive; it was more mild than anything. It was enough, though, for the man to slowly mutter something along the lines of “…in main lab…” Somewhat surprised that he gave in so easily, she studied his aura carefully. There didn’t seem to be any sort of falsehood in the words, and she could already guess where this main lab was. Her mind flashed back to that room full of tanks and tubes, snaking everywhere with the Tranzbose Lexa at the midst of everything. Deciding to take his word for now, she jammed two fingers inter a notch beneath his ear, utilizing her knowledge of pressure points to knock him out. Her eyes then fluttered over to Hana, who seemed to be almost done with her situation as well. “I’ve found out where she is – I think we ought to start heading that way.”

Already, she would begin to walk towards the narrow metal-grate bridge that spanned the expanse of the cavernous room. Below, there was nothing but an inky darkness, spelling doom for any who fell. Ignoring the site, Sorano instead concentrated on the hollow clang of her feet striking the metal. Hoshi flew quietly, broodingly besides her, fear spiking through her aura in obvious bursts. No one was comfortable in such a strange environment.

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
As her feet padded quietly across the bridge, Sorano began to think to herself, thinking of how close this last encounter had been. While the scientists were fairly weak and easy enough for herself and the ice mage to take care of, there was something about the situation… Something about the strength of the enemies that disturbed her. They were definitely stronger than the weak scientists she had attacked in the past, and seemed to be smarter as well. While they themselves weren’t much of a worry, she had learned by now that the stronger enemies came out only after watching their pawns die, and so these must be lower down on the hierarchy. Pearly teeth gently pressed down into her lower lip as Sorano tried once again to figure this one out. These people were going to greater and greater measures each time to affect Transboze Lexa – why was that? What was so completely important about the girl? She knew that she and the first Grimoire she had met were somehow intricately connected, that they had some sort of important relationship, yet the letter mage was not completely understanding of the events that had taken place. What was the value in these girls? Why did so many scientists and other sorts of “bad guys” want to take them into their possession?

As the soft clang of metal beneath her feet continued into the dark cavern, Sorano suddenly realized how quiet it was. While under normal circumstances she would not have been alarmed, when travelling with Hana, she knew there was little chance of such a full and complete silence. Glancing behind her, the letter mage’s stomach plummeted when she saw nothing but a long stretch of metal grating behind her, not a single sign of the lively bob of silver hair that marked the slayer’s presence. “Hoshi… Have you seen Hana?” Her voice was hushed, unnerved, and Hoshi could evidently sense it, her ears prickling at the sensation of loneliness and creepiness that permeated the air about them. Where had Hana gone? Hesitantly, the letter mage opened her mouth, raising her voice so that the clear ring of “Hana?” could be heard throughout the chamber. It didn’t help that her voice simply fizzled away at the edges, as though there were no walls to the seemingly endless cavern, the space sucking up the volume instead. “Hana? Hana Akki? Where are you? We’re over here!” She raised her voice even more, cautiously tracing a few letters against her palm in order to amplify the noise. Nothing.

“H-hey, Hana? Hanabi?” Fear coursed through the exceed’s aura even as she intoned the girl’s affectionate nickname, the sparks of fireworks matching her erratic and explosive nature perfectly. But even the chipper voice of Hoshi faded away into the dark, leaving the two utterly alone in the middle of a creepy metal bridge. “W-what the heck?” Without a single word exchanged between them, both already knew what the other was thinking about – the disappearances. In their first job with Lexa, the lively puella magi whom they had worked with had disappeared in a similar manner, seemingly disappearing into midair sometime in the middle of the labyrinth, leaving them nothing but the clues she had provided. Luckily, Gamon had been there, helping them through the final stages of the job and providing support they had so desperately needed. Was this a similar event? Was there something about the presence of the laboratories and labyrinths that caused such disappearances? Was this actually another transboze’s labyrinth? Questions burst through the intellectual’s mind as she tried to make sense of the situation, wondering what was going on.

In the spur of the moment, Sorano wantonly fired off a burst of lightning into the air, wondering what would happen if she did something like that. The fizzle of electricity came and went, the zapping of heat and tension momentarily piercing the endless gloom. It seemed to have called something to their attention, because suddenly whip-like black cables came tumbling down out of seemingly nowhere, five brutes dropping from the ends. The clang of their heavy boots against the thin metal grating lent a lurch to their stomachs as the struggled to adjust themselves into this new circumstance. Instinctively, the letter mage unleashed a wanton stream of oild that suddenly coated the dangerously vibrating bridge, immediately toppling one of the brutes of the edge with the sudden slipperiness. The one advantage that came with fighting on a dangerously thin bridge that dropped down into a deep dark pit was that it was easy for her to shove enemies off. Anna had always taught her to utilize her environment to the best of her ability, and there was no better place to utilize that way of thinking than right here.

It seemed that Hoshi remembered those combat lessons just as well, because in the next moment she was flapping her wings into one of their faces, forcing him into the dangerous puddle that sent him reeling over the railing and down into the depths of the pit. The others were a bit smarter, one kicking his boots off so his toes could find better traction on the ridged metal surface. One swing a metal skull-topped pole at her, the dangerous skeletal structure finding itself scratching a small nick into her arm before she cracked it in half with a sudden burst of magic, mirror shards stabbing themselves into flesh as the broken pieces went spinning over the edge and the brute wobbled dangerously on uncertain footing, bits of reflective surface sticking out of his skin. “Watch your step," she said calmly as she dodged a sudden bullet form the side. The shotguns were definitely a bit of a problem, seeing as she rarely fought with the more technological weapons. Shotguns weren’t really her style, and she could feel that she had made a mistake in not studying them more. They were definitely efficient weapons, taking down opponents at alarming speeds. She hoped that Hoshi would know to take care of them first, before all else.

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Carefully noting the locations of the brutes around her, Sorano would edge towards a part of the bridge where there was actual grating stretching off into the distance instead of dark, deep space falling away to nothingness. Finding herself in a more stable stance, she would carefully take inventory of all her opponents, locations, and where Hoshi was (currently buzzing around one of them, trying to get a grip on their shotgun), and suddenly knelt, pushing out a wave of energy. Hoshi’s sharp eyes would carefully watch her fingers as she spelled out the words, then skyrocketed into the air as soon as she saw what it read. Having practiced her spells recently with the exceed, she was more than familiar with the effects of this one, enough to know that she did not want to be on the receiving end of it. The field fanned out around them in an arc as soon as it was cast, and Sorano moved slowly closer and closer to her opponents, encompassing the entire remaining trio in the grasp of the gravity field. The man with glass shards in his body crumbled into a heap on the bridge, quickly passing out from the unexpected pressure on his already dangerous wounds, while the others fell as well, unable to control their movements. The letter mage moved quickly, reaching down to pluck their shotguns from trembling fingers that couldn’t react as she rid them of their most dangerous weapons. Tossing them off the edge of the bridge, she would raise an eyebrow, reaching into the bag at her side to reveal throwing knives to them.

In a move that bragged of practice, she spun one expertly in her hand before letting one fly into a leg of each the two remaining brutes, thus disabling their ability to walk when the gravity would wear off. It would teach them to mess around with a mage. It was strange, for she had never really utilized the spell in actual combat before, it being a freshly learned one after she had ascended to the rank of guild master. It felt liberating, to see them collapsed at her feet and unable to do anything besides struggle. But since her movement was slow and unsteady in the field, there wasn’t much she could do until the spell reached its next stage. Feeling a sudden rush of energy leaving her body as the spell switched, she gestured for Hoshi to come back down. As the two different fields were in the middle of their transition, the letter mage suddenly reached out, knocking her fingers into a position by his neck, the neck of one of her assaulters, pressing in sharply with a deft movement. As the shocked noise breathlessly slipped past his throat, he would fall to the bridge, eyeballs rolling back into his head. The other brute barely stifled a noise of shock at the unexpected maneuver, and turned, only for Hoshi to fly at him, claws gouging into his eyes.

Despite the feline’s unassuming appearance and scaredy-cat personality, there was no denying that she had become an increasingly skilled fighter as she had grown up over the years. The precise turns of her feathered wings and newfound calculation in her eyes showed an advancement from a newbie to the battle scheme, scared of laying a claw on anyone and someone who could control their movements to hurt someone just enough to teach them a good lesson while not killing them. After all, in Fairy Tail, everyone could have a second chance. Sorano would finish him off, then, with another quick jolt of electricity, the frying sound shuddering on the oil that still coated the metallic surface before it fizzled out, leaving sooty smudges on the formerly pristine silver surface. Moving on from that encounter, the letter mage quickly moved on, following the feeling in her gut as they moved to the other end of the bridge. They had a client waiting for them, Hana or not, and seeing as the young woman’s aura had vanished from the scene, there was not much she could possibly do about it short of trying to leave and possibly putting herself in more danger. Though she had not the expertise to tell for sure, she knew enough about labyrinths to know that you never tried to escape before destroying the transboze at the center. The creature could easily morph the paths, inflicting more psychological damage. At least this way, the monster would still be intrigued and willing to see what the girl held for her.

Continuing down the bride, they moved at a faster pace than before, filled with a need to get things done, and to get them done quickly. They needed to confirm whether or not Hana was okay, for she herself may have been taken by the transboze. And the only way to stop the captivity of the beloved ice mage was to kill the captor, so the mission had become doubly important. Ahead of them, faint light appeared, then the sound of faintly bustling feet and lab coats as they scurried around, some sort of energy barrier having barred the sound from reaching them before. Pausing in her footsteps, Sorano carefully ran analyzing eyes over the scene before her. Dozens of people ran around carrying clipboards, lab equipment, and other things, each with a mission of their own and an overwhelming urge to finish them. It was a beehive here, a queen bee for them to beet but thousands of workers who just might be their demise. But it was only as they got closer that they realized something else that would pose a problem. Amidst the crowd, several young woman stood together in gaggles, talking monotonously with each other in circuit-covered outfits. Lexa? Groups and groups, filled with the same person they were looking for were present, each looking identical, moving the same, talking the same, and holding similar auras of energy about them. What was this? The letter mage and exceed stopped in their tracks, perplexed expressions on their faces.

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
At that moment, before the two mages had completely collected their mind and magic to face this newest obstacle, one of the Lexas looked up, a shockingly innocent expression upon her face. Looking up at the two newcomers, her hand flew up to her face, mouth forming a completely innocent O of surprise. The girl who walked next to her, hand in hand glanced up as well, eyes widening in complete fascination. She would reach over to another girl, tapping her on the shoulder and pointing at the arrivals. A flurry of words were exchanged between them, causing the scientists around them to look up as well, expressions unreadable under careful masks. Before long, the whole cavern was filled with people glancing up in confusion that slowly turned into dawning realization. Before they could even properly prepare for what would happen, scalpels and blades were in hand, the girls glancing around as if still unsure of what was happening. It was strange how utterly clueless and innocent they seemed, until all of a sudden, as if on command, the all jerked to a stop, eyes staring blankly ahead. Circuits flashing in sync, landing in a dull yellow glow, the would part to the side, revealing all the scientists, leaving none covered up by the defense of their magical auras.

They were letting the weak go first. As was to be expected by most enemies, they would send their weakest links in first, almost like they were cannon fodder before sending in the really tough ones. To her astonishment, only six people remained after the girls evacuated to the side. It had seemed like so many more before, but now she saw three more brute-like figures, carrying the heavy-duty weapons, and three spindly, thin scientists, cradling their supplies in their arms, some with wires connected to carts around the room. They were luckily unprepared, which was perfect for them. Hopefully it wouldn’t take too much of their energy to take care of these few opponents. Nodding briefly at Hoshi, Sorano pulled her finger through the air, sucking herself through an invisible portal, only to pop up right behind the six figures. Expressionless, she grabbed two of Kagayaku, hurling them each onto one of the enemies, one stabbing into a brute’s shotgun wrist, causing the weapon to fall, and one piercing sharply into the leg of a scientist. The whirled around in shock to see the teen standing behind them, a blade in one hand, and the other hand hurriedly scribbling letters into the air.

In a deft movement, they would find a wall of fire roaring straight at them, and the brute would feel a sudden pressure at the top of his head, from Sorano’s sharp movement in bringing a blade down on the top of his forehead, rendering him unconscious. A discreet gesture would be directed at the exceed flying above the mess of burning figures as they swarmed the letter mage, sharp tools and dangerous weapons directed at her frail body. Hoshi responded swiftly, sending a shockingly large earthen wall into the midst of it all, body radiating a suddenly godly presence, the force of the Mother Earth driving away the fiends that tried to get at Sorano. While they charged at the earthen structure, trying to pierce it apart with strange chemicals and metal poles, she calmly raised her hands up to spell out yet another word, sending it out over the top of the structure. Before they suspected anything, a sudden rumble form high above would catch their attention, only for a bolt of electricity to hit them in a moment’s time. While it may seem redundant to use the same spell over and over, it worked, and in the end? That was all that mattered.

Stunning them, Sorano jumped up for Hoshi to carry her over the crumbling wall, and edged the group roughly towards the dark, forbidding cliff with the metal grating hanging over it ominously. Knives reappearing in her bag right after she had thrown them, she easily directed them at her enemy, keeping them away with carefully calculated thrusts. However, as expected, this was a more physical fight than magical, so she did find herself with a few wounds here and there. Scowling in pain at the sensation of blood dripping down her arm, Sorano pulled an arrow out of her quiver, slinging it into the flexible bow. While it wouldn’t shoot as far as most bows meant for stronger wielders were, it was still strong enough to deal some substantial damage when needed. And this was an ability shown very clearly here, Sorano’s easy pulling back of the string resulting in shafts protruding from enemy flesh. Seeing as it wasn’t strong enough to carve into any vital organs, it worked in her more light-oriented side as well, making sure not to inflict fatal injuries.

Pushing them closer and closer. She would narrowly dodge a bullet, slamming her body to the ground before wincing at the impact, then sliding her body underneath the brute’s feet. He would find himself rather unpleasantly knocked off the edge, before she jumped up to slam her fingers into a scientist’s neck, then stabbed a knife into the remaining brute’s leg. He would fall off just as she felt the cold metal of a scalpel graze her neck, her arm flinging itself backwards to knock it out of the scientist’s hand, slamming another knife’s hilt on his head as well. Seeing the remaining man already teetering at the edge of the cliff, all Hoshi had to do was fly straight into his face, feathery wings beating hard and fast before shoving him off as well. A strange sort of silence descended on the cavern as their muffled shouts slowly faded to nothing s they plummeted into the unknown. Who knew what was down there? Perhaps it was all a giant trampoline, with medics waiting to heal them. Or maybe it truly was bottomless, a dark doom for any who slipped on the precarious bridge.

For a moment, a strange sort of silence would descend upon the room, the robotic girls standing woodenly at the edge of the cavern, lifeless eyes staring forward in incomprehension at what just occurred. Breathing hard, the letter mage set her hands on her legs, taking the moment of silence to catch her breath briefly. But as expected, it was a short-lived moment of rest that provided no more than the bare minimum of a respite from battle. Feeling her magic reserves already starting to drop drastically, she sucked in her breath and exchanged a glance with Hoshi. The exceed well knew what this look meant, and reacted accordingly with a brief smile. Raising her wings in a quick movement as the circuits flared up in color, she rose up to the sky, a sudden heavenly aura surrounding her. While it was certainly a divine force that powered her movement, there was something about this gathering of power that wasn’t exactly god-like. Instead of a holy, descended from above feeling, this was a subtle sensation that crept in from all around them, surrounding them with a wash of beautiful, pure… naturalness. There wasn’t much else you could say about it, really, because the earthiness of it really was quite amazing.

A soft, natural scent washed over them, causing even the lab girls to pause in their advance for a moment before continuing. But when they had decided to advance, they would find that things weren’t going to be easy for them – not with Hoshi here. The seemingly harmless exceed (although she had proved many times over that she was not what she seemed) had harnessed the energy of her patron deity, the Mother Earth. It was one of her very few abilities, but a powerful ability, one that you couldn’t exactly underestimate. Slowly, orbs of some sort of material would form at the tip of her paws, the light slowly fading into the natural glow that water gave off when the lights from the strange fixtures above shone through the transparent material. Channeling the new energy efficiently, he exceed would send twin spirals of the clear liquid down at the robots, ensuring each got a liberal amount of the attack before retrieving the lengths again, holding them in orb form while flying over them. The girls looked up, seemingly out of instinct, and reacted quickly with brisk movements. As they had in the past, the girls easily disappeared and reappeared, special teleportation abilities seeming to be their strongest.

One suddenly flashed into being behind Hoshi in midair, circuits flashing a dangerous, glowing red. As they reached their exploding point, a sudden lash of water snapped itself tightly around the girl’s body, Hoshi herself swinging herself up into the sky. As they burst apart in a rather large mess of neon fluid, Both girls did receive a slight bit of damage, though none of it was as substantially damaging as it would have been had Hoshi’s spell wrapped around her. Moving fluidly after the exceed, Sorano responded to the girl’s attack by flinging three of her blades in her direction. Piercing into her body, through the black material, the knives brought the clone falling to the ground. While Sorano was not someone who enjoyed killing people, she had been less careful about it since they’d established themselves as an independent guild. It did help that most these were mindless experimental clones… Just a bit. Pressing down the slightest pang of guilt in her stomach, the letter mage continued, turning around to slam a tranquilizing quill into another clone, the unique ink causing her to pass out from the substance. Around twelve more to go.

Hoshi’s role in this fight was big, her body spinning through the air as her wings furled about her, paws causing bursts of water to strike the mages, drenching the arena. When put into action, the small exceed was able to do more than her appearance suggested. Despite her fragile body frame and delicate white-furred paws, the ability that the Mother Earth had instilled within her was certainly a force to be reckoned with. Gulping in a breath of air, she looked around briefly, flying up towards wherever the ceiling of the lab was to look down for Sorano. To her relief, the letter mage looked fine despite the many mages appearing and disappearing all around her. Having confirmed her safety, Hoshi would enter the fray herself, narrowly escaping the sudden spurt of red liquid from one of the clones. They were difficult opponents this time, since these were other mages, well-trained through some complex programming. They would have to find the mastermind behind all this technology in order to stop them, something she most certainly wasn’t looking forward to. Following up behind one of her partner’s attacks, the exceed slapped a sheet of water into the clone’s face, knocking her out in a brisk move before joining Sorano on the floor.

By now, only two of the fifteen clones remained, and both sides were breathy and exhausted. The girl on the right arched an eyebrow at them, as if daring them to come at them, while the other seemed more severely injured, trying not to look up as she clutched at an arm. Her outfit had several circuits seeming to be hanging on only by a wire of so, and blood streaked her pale skin. She wouldn’t be hard to take out. In a quick, easy move, Sorano sent a lightning bolt down on the stronger-looking girl, frying her circuits and leaving her defenseless before knocking her out with a quick strike with the hilt of a knife. Before Hoshi could finish off the weaker one, however, a sudden blunt pressure would be felt at the letter mage’s head before she collapsed, yelling in surprise. Hoshi blinked, wondering what in the world had happened. Then, she looked to the side, only to see the formerly downcast-eyed girl smirking at her, snatching a circuit in her hand. “Hey, kitty,” she whispered, before her circuits all lit up in a wave a bright red, eyes glowing the same color.

The fluid exploded througout the room, splattering the tanks and tubes and bodies with scorching red liquid. Sorano hissed in pain as she felt the pain on her forearms crisping in the extreme heat. What the heck? She hadn’t been defeated after all? A hiss exited her mouth as the light slowly faded, leaving her with a badly burnt arm and legs, and… Hoshi? Looking around in horror, Sorano’s eyes tried to pick up on the presence of the fun, bubbly exceed. “Hey, Hoshi? Hoshi? Where are you? Hey Hoshi, seriously, where are you?” For once terror laced her voice as she ran towards the fallen figure of the girl who had been behind the explosion. “Oh my god, oh my god, Hoshi?” Her emotional barriers flickered for a moment, causing her mind to blank, even her alters not daring to enter her mind in such a precarious situation. Groping about in the now cooled artificial fluid, the letter mage scrabbled about like someone who had lost their mind, a bare skeleton remaining of the formerly calm, composed and intelligent guild master. Hot tears streaked down her porcelain face as she begged any sort of deity in the heavens to help her. No, not Hoshi, anyone but Hoshi was fine, just not her!

While to some this may seem like an obsessive scene, with a great overreaction from the child, one would have to understand their background to understand Sorano’s reaction. The letter mage had no one, no one left who had ever seen the way she truly was besides Hoshi. Not even Anna, the kindly mage who had taught Sorano how to live life again knew her as well as the feline had. The two told each other everything, allowed each other to know everything, anything about each other. Their relationship was probably the most open one might had ever seen, the two fitting into each other like they were meant for one another. The thought of losing her one anchor to her emotions… There was no way that someone so emotionally unstable as Sorano could handle the loss. Already, signs of losing Hoshi were showing in her panicked demeanor, her mind scrambling apart from the usual organized rows. She was falling apart. She searched through the debris, brushing aside pieces of circuitry and stray tubes and tools, trying to distinguish proper figures apart from the sea of red – a gruesome combination of both blood and electronic liquid.

“Interesting.” I sudden voice snapped the letter mage from her thoughts, jerking her head upwards to look at the man who stared at her in an unimpressed manner. “I’m disappointed, quite honestly.” An eyebrow was raised skeptically at Sorano, disbelief etched into his every feature. “I had expected so much more from the supposedly emotionless guild master. Instead, all I see before is an emotionally distraught teenager who has lost her pet. Honestly I had been expecting so much more. In the end, will I have to even try in order to defeat you? I was impressed with your conduct at first, but it is obvious you have too many weaknesses to win against someone of my level.” A smirk grew on his face, and the man slid a powerful sword from its sheath. “It will definitely be fun to watch the collective reactions of all those mages out there when they hear that I have slain the guild master of Fairy Tail, hmm? Fairy Tail, guild of destruction. Guild of monsters, of people who can’t possibly be normal human beings with their unpredictability. No one ever knows what they might do next, actions ranging from extraordinarily well-calculated to nonsensical. I have long since wanted to meet the master of such a beautifully chaotic guild. Are you sure there’s no other master? Perhaps you are nothing but a decoy? I wouldn’t be surprised, honestly, sweetie.”

The tip of his sword skimmed the ground, slicing a line of silver through all the red. At the end of the path, Sorano’s eyes widened as the still figure of Hoshi twitched in pain at the sudden prick of metal in her scorched fur. A breath was hurriedly sucked into her mouth as she felt within her for how much ethernanos she had left. A sickening feeling of dread settled into her stomach as the store turned up empty, lacking the powerful energy she so depended on for magic use. They were doomed, weren’t they? Sucking in a breath, the letter mage suddenly felt the entire situation settle on her shoulders. She was exposed, emotions bared to the outside. There was… Absolutely nothing she could do when she possessed emotions. A sudden shock coursed through her veins at this realization, and without thinking, she let her mind take over. In a single movement, her body was discarded to the ground, a powerful aura of white and black swirled together in a mosaic of dizzying brightness as her aural form discarded her emotions, becoming the version of her most suited to fighting.

“I believe you may have underestimated me, sir. It is difficult to determine the true strength of someone when you are judging them at their worst, you realize.” In a quick movement, she sent a streak of mixed light at the figure, watching with mild interest as he easily dodged it. Streaks of speed magic echoed in the air beside him, painting the air a dull yellow glow. Sorano reveled in the powerful energy senses of this form, feeling the presence of each individual magic and trembling power touch her veins, leaving them trembling with delight. She could make do with this, couldn’t she? His sword whizzed towards her quickly, his smile having disappeared. “Don’t think you can beat me with such elementary skills, miss. I may have underestimated you, but I am not lacking in my own skills.” His sword lashed at her spiritual body, but he was not the only one with speed in this situation. The energetic form easily dodged his strike, retaliating with two quick slashes one after another, finally catching him on the arm. Seeing him wince at the impact, Sorano recalled that her new aural abilities were no longer pure, burning white signatures. She had grown tainted with experience and age, wielding a terrible, dark infection along with the pure burn of justice. It couldn’t feel nice to get hit with that.

He grimaced slightly from the unexpected sensation, but to his credit, the scientist recovered quickly, stepping back as the two circled each other briefly. Having tested out each others’ waters already, they were ready to really enter the battle. He feinted at her quickly, sword ducking to her unprotected side, dipping into the aural substance, A small gash opened up on the still body lying on the ground, the sense of pain quickly dismissed by the mage. Small injuries were of no importance to her at the moment, instead, her eyes focused carefully on the faint twitches of her opponents’ muscles, watching for any giveaway sign of weakness. He darted forth again, seeing she was not going to retaliate, and this time Sorano was prepared. She flattened herself to the ground, jerking out abruptly to slice a streak of aural energy into his leg as he darted back. Like many swordsmen, he often slashed sideways, not expecting the downwards motion of their opponent. Many mages, even some of the very best forgot about the fact that a person could move in four main directions. They simply assumed their opponents would go left or right, or up and down. There was no in between, and it did actually work on most mages. Mages, that were not Sorano.

Focusing on one another, they nipped and nibbled at each others’ strategies and defenses. The scientist’s immense speed and dangerous precision matched with Sorano’s cold, calculating mindset and painful energy attacks were a perfect combination for a skilled partnership, or, in this case, a difficult rivalry. They were well-matched, able to counter each others’ attacks quickly. Sorano’s adaptability was countered by his speed, and his swordsmanship was countered by Sorano’s precise movements and energetic form. After only around half an hour of back and forth testing, not much progress had been made on either side. Both were breathing hard, gasping out shallow gasps and trying to catch their breaths. Had it been only a training session, this was where Sorano would have asked to stop. But this was no practice – this was the real thing. If she failed, she was basically dead. So, burying her humanity even deeper inside of her, she pushed onwards. The movies glorified the battle, made the protagonist’s struggles and triumphs look grand and heartwarming. It was nowhere close to that in reality, however, and the victory was won not with fanfare, but with great exhaustion.

Having pushed himself to the limits, the scientist had simply not had as much stamina as the letter mage in this new form. Being speeding around constantly with a heavy sword compared to Sorano in a lightweight body, he tired quickly, weakened enough for the letter mage to catch him unawares. A powerful hit of energy to the side of his head put him out, and Sorano was instantly looking for Hoshi. Grasping the furry little bundle from the ground, she pressed her magic hurriedly into the limp body, breathing relief when she twitched a sign of life into existence. “Thank god, Hoshi,” she whispered, settling the feline down as the girl fell back into her physical body. It was obvious how much it hurt, an instant sensation of burning and prickling shooting through her limbs where she had been hit in the battle. All that rejected hurt came back now, hampering her movements and leaving her without a moment of peace. She pulled herself up to her feet, job having been forgotten already until a familiar voice called out. “Hey, Sorano? Oh my gosh, Sorano? Is that you?” The teary, joyful voice cut through her thoughts and turned Sorano’s head towards a petite blonde girl standing in front of a just-opened back door.

“O-oh, Lexa, hello,” came her response, looking at Tranzbose Lexa in something almost akin to surprise. She definitely had not forgotten the job was going on, right? Running over, Lexa wrapped the bleeding girl in a huge hug, pulling her towards the door. “Thank you so much Sorano! Ahh, I’m getting so dependent on you it’s not even funny, like, you have no idea how terrified I was, okay? Like, I woke up, and I’m locked in a room! I could barely get the circuit slipped out a crack in the doorframe, which stripped away a lot of the data. But you got it in the end, which is all that counts!” Grinning, she pulled a folder out from a desk in the corner. “As always, I am in your debt, Sorano, so I must pay you, yes?” She reached out, handing the letter mage a check in circuit form. “They should accept these, come find me if they don’t!” The girl smiled broadly, rummaging around in the folder again. “Also! Here is a special something I created while stuck in there. I wanted you to have it, as a symbol of our friendship. You’ve helped me so much, I wanted to thank you with something personal like this, okay?”

The letter mage took the strip of decorative circuitry, colors flowing smoothly below her fingertips. “This… wow, thank you, Lexa,” she said, looking up with almost genuine gratitude in her expression. “You will never hurt a single ally in the nearby area with this amulet, yeah? Keep it on you, Sorano. I saw you fighting out there, you know. I had a sight-lacrima, and your fighting is gorgeous. However, I can definitely tell that your abilities are wild and unpredictable. I don’t want you to hurt a friend on accident someday.” With these solemn last words, she gave both Sorano and the unconscious Hoshi a peck on the cheek, and disappeared into the dark tunnels of the labyrinth. Waving awkwardly, Sorano sighed, tying the circuitry around her wrist, and returned to the sunny world above. Already, she could guess that one day Lexa would call her back to this exact location again. And honestly, Sorano didn’t really mind. After all, wasn’t Lexa Grimoire someone they could see as a friend now?
