Several Days Ago Prior To Taking The Job.

A very tired and sleepy Margaret crashed into her bed and curled up into a ball with a groan. She had just spent several weeks on a stupid job and she was tired as all hell. Her body was sore, her feet blistered and her head aching, pounding against her skull like a deranged animal trying to free itself from its cage. "I am never doing that again." She declared in the privacy and solitude of her home in Rose Garden.

She closed her eyes and slowly waited to drift off to sleep. Hours later her annoyance was building and her discomfort was making itself apparent. She thrashed around her bed, tossing and turning, trying to position better for the sake of comfort.

It wasn't normal for Margaret to be unable to sleep. It just was of those things that didn't happen. She was used to sleeping everywhere. On some bumpy rock, no problem! On a tree branch? Tie yourself around it so you don't fall off! On some grasslands in the rain! Buckle up and get used to getting wet! Sleep was a vital part of a healthy fast paced lifestyle and Margaret considered herself to be a master of it.

It would soon be a few hours til morning before she actually got herself some sleep, just enough to recover any used up stamina she had used previously. She was still physically tired and uncomfortable when she woke up. She had discerned what had giving her her sleep problems. Her blanket was, upon inspection, not as comfortable as when she had first bought it.

She bundled up the blanket and threw it into the bin before heading it to look for a store that would sell her some particularly nice and fluffy blankets for her to sleep with. Her search for a shop took her high, low, and around Rose Garden. She tried so many blankets that day, from wrapping it around herself to just feeling it.

Far into her blanket shopping she had decided to rest on a bench. She also took the opportunity to take into account the blankets she's tested and started to rank them based on how fluffy they felt.

"Yer looking for a blanket lassie?" Distracted from her thoughts, she looked at the old man who had approached her seemingly from out of nowhere.

"Well, yeah. How'd you-" She began to ask.

"I thought so, you look like you didn't get enough sleep."

    'I do?' She wondered.

The man launched off into his story. He introduced himself as the owner of the shop across the bench that they were sitting on. He told her of how he sold the fluffiest blanket this side of Earthland made from the finest materials.

At first Margaret was skeptical about the old man's tale. Then she felt the blanket that the old man had brought and she decided that she had to have a blanket like this.

"Ah sorry lass. I don't get a new supply of materials for these blankets til next month." The old man said apologetically.

"Aw..." Margaret whined adorably, visibly heartbroken that she wasn't getting a wonderfully fluffy blanket. Then she had the most wonderful idea.

"What if...what if I went out to get the materials for the blanket?" She asked, slowly getting determined.

"Lass, going out on your own to get it is dangerous!" But Margaret wasn't about dissuaded by danger and warnings.

"No. Having a blanket like this immediately has now become a life goal." Margaret declared, staring intimidatingly down at the man. "Where can I get the materials for the blanket."

"...Well...if you're so determined then I guess I can't stop you." The old man sighed. "Right then, here's how you get the stuff for the blanket..."

Margaret sat there excitedly absorbing the information the man was giving her.

"Do you understand what I've told you?" He asked once he finished explaining. Margaret gave an enthusiastic nod.

"Spooky Forest, kill a ram, bring it back for fluffy blanket." The old man smiled and pat her head.

"Smart girl. Well I'll get back to my shop, you bring the ram there alright?" Margaret watched the old man hobble back to his shop. Once he disappeared Margaret raced back off into her place.

"We're going on an adventure!" She yelled happily as she raced down the streets, even ignoring the use of door and instead flying through her home's window after slamming it open. She was going on adventure to help endanger a species of ram for a blanket and to her that was worth it. Hours were lost in a flurry of packing supplies for this venture.

Margaret was determined to have a fluffy blanket to sleep with and damned be the consequences.

It was late in the evening when she set off. She set off to kill a not so innocent ram.

    Spooky Forest

The spooky Forest's name was definitely well deserved for two reasons. One, it was a forest, there were so many trees in this place. Margaret hazarded a guess that forests were what tree stores would look like, of they ever existed at all. The second reason was that well...the Spooky Forest was very spooky. It wasn't scary in the sense that she was facing some form of odd horror that was out to get here. It was more about the atmosphere. Dark, gloomy, misty, these contributed greatly to the eerie feeling that the place was giving her. Any normal person would've been normally terrified by it and turned tail immediately in search of safer places to be in.

But then again, Margaret was never a normal person.

And by the gods below she absolutely loved the place.

"This is absolutely awesome!" She yelled out, her voice carrying through the forest. "I mean just look at this place! The Spooky Forest is so cool, look at these spooky grass! Look at that spooky tree!" She gave a excited gasp. "That's a spooky fallen log with spooky moss!" She yelled excitedly. She quickly ran over and admired said spooky fallen log with spooky moss with 'oooohs' and 'aaaahs'.

Half an hour later she managed to reign in her admiration for such an atmospheric place enough that she managed to focus on what she was here for.

"Okay, Spooky Forest. Now I find that ram and bring it home!" She began to walk further into the Spooky Forest in search of her quarry. The thing that the Fluffy Blanket was made from, the dreaded Killer Ram.

Margaret knew that a job like this wouldn't be easy and the odds that she'd find the said ram on the first few moments were very slim. So it was most likely that she had to go in very deep into the forest in order to find one ram.

    Then she heard clucking.

"Wha-" Was all she could say before she had to leap to the side to avoid some dangerous looking chickens. She had to stand up quickly in order to quickly back away.

The chickens were unbelievably fast, even for her. Luckily she could fly and managed to hover out of their range, although they were still after her. She was lucky that she managed to get away, getting taken down, much less caught of guard by chickens was not a great start to an adventure.

She looked down at the chickens and somehow she could tell that they were very angry that she could fly and they couldn't.

"Wow, you guys are some seriously angry birds." Margaret quipped, aiming her scythe down at the chickens and trying to shoo them away. "Well go on! Shoo!" Her attempts at getting them to leave were met with even more angry clucking.

Margaret couldn't say that she was surprised that she got clucking as a response. They were chickens after all. They were literal birdbrains. Angry vicious birdbrains but birdbrains nonetheless. She put her scythe on her shoulder and rested it there as she brought her other hand out and pointed it downwards.

"Torrential Pulse." A water spell from her arsenal made quick work of the vicious flightless birds, who were caught in the very center of the spell, and flooded them to death. "Sorry chickies, but you did try to kill me...so not sorry at all? I guess?" She muttered as she hovered down onto the ground and quickly inspected the bird corpses.

"Yep that's dead...I wonder if you guys can be cooked?" She asked to herself. "Hmm...nah I won't touch these, I'll leave them to some other predator to eat! Here that predators!? You get free food! You're weeeeelcoooome!"

Not even shaken by the fact that she had just gotten attacked by chickens she moved on deeper to the forest. No vicious flightless bird was going to stop her from getting that nice blanket.

    Spooky Forest: Deeper Into It

Margaret Elle was really getting into this new adventure she was in. She knew it wasn't going to be easy but being attacked by chickens was something that had never happened to her so the novelty wasn't lost to her. She a bit deeper into the Spooky Forest her love for the place was slowly fading. The fog was noticeably thicker than before, she could still see through it but it wasn't as easy as earlier. The number of trees were increasing noticeably as well. There were more of them occupying a given area than before. They were also getting more twisted and warped. Most, if not all, of them were now sporting what could be mistaken for twisted faces and hands at first glance.

"HII-nrk!" She stifled yet another shriek from mistaking one of the trees to be something creepy and out to get her. She glared at the offending tree and gave it a swift kick, shacking it up a bit but ultimately achieving nothing but making her feel better. "Okay Margaret, it's okay, you're a mage, a great one at that! This spookiness is something you'll get past quickly and probably laugh about when you get home." This was mostly said to reassure herself, but against the eerie quiet atmosphere of forest it might as well have been nightmare fuel.

"Wait...what was that?" She suddenly froze and cautiously looked around her. "I...hear something..." She tilted her head to the side as if that would help her hear better. "It sounds like...squealing and oinking...I'm not sure." She muttered, following the sound.

That was a bad idea. As she moved in closer she began to hear very rapid footsteps coming from both sides of her. Suddenly she shot up in the air, narrowly avoiding three pigs that came charging out of nowhere at her. To call them normal pigs would be inaccurate for they had large bulging muscles with visible veins.

Quickly positioning herself she began to cast Crumble. The piggies were caught in her spell's range and the earth crumbled from its might. The ground around her cracked and broke apart, destroyed by some unseen magical force. The remnants of an already fading shattered magic circle was the only evidence that Margaret caused the ground to break.

    3 Piggies 100/160HP Each (Stunned)

While the pigs were still recovering their bearing from having the earth break from under them Margaret took the opportunity to follow through with another spell. Air Blast sent them flying back the way they came.

    3 Piggies 42/160HP Each

She quickly followed the pigs by flying after them, careful not to get caught unaware. She found the three weakened significantly by the damage her spells wrought unto them. "Flame Burst." She announced their doom. The red magic circle blazed into existence for a few moments, with the pigs at the very border of it, before it shattered seconds later. Flames exploded outward with fierce intensity, swallowing the pigs, her, and some trees unfortunate enough to be caught in the flame spell's range.

Margaret came out unscathed from the flames. "Right, now that's done we-" She paused and sniffed the air before turning at the pigs that were cooked by her flames. "...Okay nooot touching that. It smells good but I don't think I should eat that." She muttered, swiftly floating off deeper into the spooky forest.

Margaret knew better than to eat something she'd just fought. Unless she had to or she'd eaten the same thing before then she wouldn't feast on the flesh of the cooked beasts, no matter how poetic it would be for her to do so.

"Here Rammy Rammy Rammy Rammy Rammy~" She called out as she went further into the forest.

Way Deep Into The Spooky Forest

"-ammy Rammy Rammy Rammy Rammy Rammy Rammy Rammy Rammy Rammy."

Margaret moved forward cautiously. Her calling out for a ram had slowly transitioned from doing it with a sweet singing voice to a dead monotone. She had been contemplating on whether or not she should camp out here. Her feet were no longer touching the ground for she was hovering above by mere inches, her toes lightly touching the tallest blades of grass. If someone were to come and look at her now they would swear that they were seeing an apparition of someone who died while uttering 'Rammy' over and over again.

It would've been funny to her and she would've laughed had she not been extremely focused on hunting down a ram  for the world's fluffiest blanket. She paused in her calling out for a ram to allow herself to focus on her hearing.

There! She heard something, it was faint and far away, she almost didn't manage to pick it up but she was sure glad that she did. Her ears picked up the extremely faint sound of footsteps. Somewhere further in was something walking loud enough for its footsteps to carry through the whispering winds. Her heart raced as she slowly began to creep towards where the sound was coming from, by flying a bit upwards and flying very slowly.

Her endeavors towards a stealthy approach was rewarded with animals that she wasn't looking for. There was a clearing where the spooky warped trees were space further away from each other than what could be considered in these parts of the forest.

There, in the clearing was a lone killer ram. The very reason that she was in the spooky forest in the first place. She hid behind a tree and saw that its back was turned and Margaret decided to take some time to admire it. Specifically, she decided to take the time the luscious and ludicrous fluff that covered the killer ram.

It looked like a cloud with legs and from where she was floating. In fact, in looked completely innocent and she almost felt bad for conspiring to kill such a creature. Surely something that looks so innocent and provides such wonderful blankets couldn't be all that bad?

However, whatever feelings of doubt about killing it were immediately banished when it turned to the side. It's head was drenched with blood, blood was dripping down its horns as it had just finished goring something recently. Its teeth looked incredibly sharp and upon taking a longer look at it it looked like there were chunks of meat in between them. It moved a bit, hooves chopping grass with each step. It's baa was different from the ones she knew that came from the mild mannered simple farm animals. There was definitely a layer of malice and evil intent with it.

Margaret looked away and shuddered. 'What the hell kind of beast is this!?' She thought as she peeked once more. The ram had barely moved and was eating on a wolf pup carcass. It must've strayed away from the pack and fallen victim to this beast. Such a blatant display of ruthlessness and brutality unnerved Margaret to no end. She looked at the wolf pup carcass with sadness and pity straightening up and taking a deep breath after turning away.

"Welp, enough of this senseless brooding!" She whispered to herself psyching herself up. "Time to kill the ram!" When she turned around once more she found that the ram had disappeared with no trace. "Wha? Where'd it go?" She tried to listen for its footsteps. She nearly cried out in frustrated anguish but then she heard footsteps once more. 'There! It's over there!' She thought as she flew after the ram. "I'm not going to lose your trail after finding you ram. You're going to contribute to my blanket!"

Had she been paying attention Margaret would've noticed that the her talking had attracted the attention of the aggressive denizens of the Spooky Forest. Behind her, a pack of pigs, same as the ones that she had encountered much earlier in another part of the forest, slowly picked up on her scent with the snouts. Their oinking and angry squealing conveying their intent to each other. Their beady hatefilled eyes stared at Margaret as she flew off after the ram and one of the let out an angry high pitched squeal as if it were giving a command to attack.

The group of six piggies, out for blood, trailed after the unknowing purple haired elementalist.

"Okay, there it is." The ram was once again in her view. She readied her scythe and hefted it onto her shoulder in preparation for doing the deed. "Alright. I'm ready." She flew at it with scythe poised to drive through it.

"SQUEEEEEEEEE!" The pigs charged right after her and Margaret panicked looked behind her, causing her to overshoot and miss the ram.  She floated in the air as the pigs ran after her. She flew higher and took to the treetops as she watched the pigs gather under her, waiting for her to come down.

"Oh dear! That sure is a lot of them." Margaret said, stating the obvious. "I don't think I have enough magic left to deal with them. Margaret stayed in the air and thought about her options. She wasn't going back with that ram's dead body but if she fought now she would be overrun. Then she had an idea, and idea so crazy that it just might work out for her in the end.

She looked down at the teeming group of pigs with a mischievous smile. "Let's have some fun boys...err...at least I think you're boys. Are you boys?" She asked before slapping herself on the forehead. "Right, i forgot, animals. They don't talk back."

Somewhere In The Deep Spooky Dimness Of The Deep Spooky Forest

Margaret Elle had a crazy wonderful and probably very dangerous idea. She could only user her magic sparsely, she probably had three or four spell uses left before the magical exhaustion heavily cripples her ability to move. She would have had to be smart about her spell use if she wanted to get out of this alive...

So then she decided, what if she didn't use much magic at all for this? She looked between the pigs and the killer ram, which still hadn't noticed her thankfully, and smiled in anticipation for her scheme.
She lowered herself, hovering just barely out of reach of the six piggies that had come after her. As she moved closer they grew more and more agitated. Each one clamoring, reaching for her, wanting to be the first to knock her down from the air, trample her, and tear her asunder.

And from the looks of it, doing the last two things would be easy for them if she let them. It was a good thing that she wasn't.

Without another peep or another wasted gesture she began to lead the pigs around by flying where she wanted them to go. They chased after her like dogs after meat. Well in this case, pigs after human meat.

She let out a variety of taunts as she flew around and led the pigs.

    "Your mother was my breakfast!"

    "You pigs are sooo slooow."

"You guys are boar-ing. Get it? Cause you guys are...right, wasted explanation, animals don't get jokes."

"I bet you guys will taste delicious in barbecue sauce!" She gave a little pause. "Maybe not the food ones, they're making me hungry." She muttered to herself, foregoing the use of anymore food related insults.

"I'm going to make you guys into baco-I swear I should stop using the food ones."

She didn't know if the pigs actually understood the taunt, but it seems to have worked them up into a furious frenzy.

With pigs in tow she charged at the ram who had begun to notice her and was already in the motion to to beginning charging her too. Its head was lowered, exposing its large bloodied horns to her, and it idly scraped one leg across the ground. With a loud menacing baa it charged to meet her head on.

Margaret and the ram quickly began to close the distance between each other. 'Not yet.' She thought as ram came closer. 'Not yet.' The ram was even closer now. 'Not yet.' Her heart was racing, if she actually met it head on then she would be grievously injured. 'Not yet.' It was uncomfortably closer now, just a bit more distance and...

'Now!' She suddenly shot upwards and looked down to see if her plan had worked successfully. The ram and the pig horde collided against each other and hurt one another. Her plan had been successful.

The pigs switched targets from Margaret to the ram and circled it like sharks. The ram, not expecting to be suddenly hurt by the pigs, even accidentally, was enraged. The ram and the pigs threw themselves at each other, inflicting pain and harming one another in a one versus eight brawl. Biting, ramming, shoving each other to no end. Hooves were used, teeth were used, bodies were used, horns were used, in the ram's case the carcass of a pig on his horn was used. Some good hits were snuck in by the pigs, a couple of them landing more than one blow.

The violence didn't stop until the the pigs were dead and the ram was severely weakened by fighting six pigs at once that it didn't even notice Margaret creep up to it from above.

The ram was near death, Margaret could see that. It's legs weren't as straight as she first saw them and its horns had been broken off. Its face was smashed a bloodied and putting it out of its misery would be a mercy to it.

"Don't worry. I'm sure you'll make me a fine blanket." With the words leaving her mouth a single bolt of lightning, her Smite spell, came crashing down onto the ram from her hand.

The ram convulsed before it collapsed, the last light of life from its eyes fading away leaving it dull and dark.

"Welp, time to go home and get me that blanket." Margaret happily hummed to herself as she grabbed the rams carcass by a leg and began to drag it out of the Spooky Forest and back home. Her job here was done and her target killed successfully.

The next morning she returned to the shop with the carcass. The old man congratulated her on a successful hunt and helped her bring it into the store's back room.

He told her to come back for it hours later and that he needs time and privacy to create the best quality of blankets. Not seeking to compromise the quality of her future blanket and not wanting to argue with the old man who was a master of his craft she quickly left him alone to go around the town for a bit, run some errands, take a bath, refill her pantry, and such.

Come sundown she returned to the store where the old man was waiting for her with a blanket bundled up neatly and a stack of Jewels. She accepted the blanket without question, it's what she wanted anyways, but looked questioningly at the Jewels. He explained that she brought enough material that he could make more blankets and wanted to buy the material off of her. Not seeing any other reason to refuse him she accepted the money too and happily went home with her new blanket.
