“There really should be limits to how big a city can be,” Aliarey whined to herself as she continued her slow walking pace through the city. She had recently taken on a job of finding some convict that escaped custody. Considering the city was the home of the Magic Council one would of thought escaping would have been difficult. Now here she was, the one stuck trying to find the man in a gigantic city that was unknown to her. Truly aggravating for someone that just wanted a quick jewel handout. The guards that had lost track of the convict did give her some help which was the description of the man and the address of his family. They had a feeling his home would be one of the first places he would go. Why they couldn’t handle it themselves if they knew that much was beyond her. Perhaps their problem wasn’t with finding him but with catching him and given the fact he escaped to begin with that would not surprise her.
So with a description and an actual address to start what exactly was Aliarey’s issue? Trying to find the damn house! An address was only good if she knew how to actually get there! Was it three times she had circled the city in a confused manner or was it four? Finally she just had to give in and ask for directions from random people walking by. How she hated looking like the dummy that didn’t even know where she was going. Still after conversing with the locals she thought she had a better idea of how to traverse the city. Upon approaching the sector of the city the home of the convict was located, her blue eyes caught sight of a male figure peaking around the corner of an alleyway. Normally she would of ignored such a thing as long as she felt no danger to herself, but carefully peaking around corners and such was something someone on the run would do, right?
Without giving much thought on how to be sneaky and approach someone who was hiding, she went with what was most natural to her; shout at the man and thereby alerting him to the fact she was on to him. “Hey! You! The creepy shadow guy! Stop right there…or something.” In response the man took off running down the alleyway. “Wha-Hey! I said stop, didn’t you hear me?!” The young woman could only face palm as her target kept running. “I am really bad at this.” From now on she was just going to shoot first and ask people to stop after. That somehow made more sense.
Aliarey took off after the the man that was getting away. Catching up was relatively easy since the alley was a straight shot down and for the fact she was quite used to running at her highest speed for long periods of time. The man on the run, however, was not accustomed to such a thing. His pace slowed and his breaths grew heavy. It was not long before he found himself tackled to the ground by the tall blonde, who then kept him forced down as she pointed the barrel of her pistol at the back of his neck. “Now I am going to say this again so work with me this time. Stop. Right. There.”
“Oh, alright fine. Have it your way. I’m unarmed and out of shape so I am not getting out of this one.“ The man pinned to the ground sighed in defeat. “But before you take me back just let me see my family. Consider it a last request type of thing. I’ll go willingly and won’t attempt to run away again if you do.”
“Deal.” Agreeing to the terms Aliarey released the man and put away her pistol. The man slowly stood up and just stared at the woman, astonished by the fact she took his word so easily. In truth the only thing Aliarey cared about and heard was the part where he said he wouldn‘t cause any more trouble for her. If he tried to get away again then she would just shoot him in whichever manner she felt like doing. Attacking the legs was an obvious choice but the directions she was given never said he had to be brought in alive either. Maybe. Truthfully she didn’t exactly remember that rather large detail.
The two stared at each other before Aliarey would motion with her hand for him to move forward. He did and so she followed along silently. The two would appear in front of a small house but the man made no motion to move closer or to greet the woman and young girl playing in the yard. He stayed away and remained hidden, just barely close enough so he could watch them. Aliarey watched as well but her own thoughts zoned out as she wondered if she should take the time to return home and see her own family.
When the wife and daughter went inside the man nodded, satisfied at having seen them for a bit. It was time to keep his part of the deal and return without a fuss. The day concluded with the job she was given completed, the reward given, and now some rather annoying thoughts of family running through her mind.
