Name: William "Maxwell" Carter
Gender: Male
Age: Physically- 30 / Actually - 129
Birthday: 6/22
Sexuality: Straight
Special Characteristics: The skin of his arms is made up by an faded, ink black substance.
Personality:
The once great king of 'their' realm, Maxwell is a detestable and cruel man. He was allowed to play god, to twist fate and take lives as he pleased. But to resist 'their' influence, one must have a mind of steel and must lock their thoughts away behind a veil. Maxwell is a master of hiding his true self- William Carter. One a mediocre magician who played with forces he shouldn't have, William and his assistant Charlie were dragged into 'their' world through the Codex Umbra.
As a person, Maxwell can truly be seen as someone fitting the description 'Vile King'. He is pompous, arrogant, and cruel. He prefers to toy with lives, and take them when they bore him. A true megalomaniac, Maxwell is bent on power. In truth he does secretly wish he go back to his old life and be William Carter, and reunite with Charlie once more. That, however, is a wish that will never happen. 'They' changed him, corrupted him. He is no longer completely human, no Maxwell was infected by 'them' and the Codex Umbra. Some call him a demon, some call him a nightmare. 'They' will not let him free and 'They' will always be apart of him- speaking to him, manipulating him.
He likes to believe that he is sane, and he actually is one of the most sane people to exists, but as long as 'They' are in his mind, Maxwell will always be a maniac no matter how dapper he may be. As long as he, or 'They' want he can appear to be sane and in control- but he can snap and spiral down the darkest paths until he claws his way right back up.
In battle Maxwell is a valuable, loyal asset. He is tactical, he thinks everything through. Every action he makes, he knows that there will be consequences and is willing to go through with them no matter how negative the outcome as long as there is a benefit for him. As a leader, he has a key eye for people's strengths and weaknesses and uses them accordingly to see to it that the battle is won. He can become unpredictable if his magic level, or his health, lowers too far. Because of 'their' corruption, Maxwell will slowly being to turn into a more nightmarish form if pushed to far. If his health lowers he will grow in stature, appear older and stronger, and will be wildly hunched over and have to support himself on his arm. If his MP drains too far, then his body will twist and morph. He will turn into a murky, translucent black color and his facial features will look as if they were scribbled on with chalk.
In both states he loses his mind. He has to battle with 'them' for control, making him extremely dangerous and unpredictable in this state. He will attack team mates without realizing, he will run into buildings or solid objects and tear up the ground like a wild animal. Maxwell's power with his Codex Umbra is severely limited due to this, only willing to use a portion of his potential so he doesn't risk turning and potentially lose control.
Maxwell does not fear death. He has encountered it twice before, once at the hands of mercy and once at the hands of fate. Maxwell can never truly die as long as 'They' wish to keep him. Someone with a strong mind, and telepathic powers could attempt to bargain for his life- and if they succeed, 'They' will leave Maxwell. If 'They' leave Maxwell, his body will wither away instantly as 100 years catches up with his body.
Likes:
- Power: 100 years of playing god is quite the addicting thing, and Maxwell has been trying to get that power back for the 10 years he has been free.
- The Dark: Both he, and 'They' used to thrive in the dark. Not pitch blackness mind you, just dark.
- Being In Control: Both of other people and himself, Maxwell is bent on getting, and staying in control for as long as he can.
Dislikes:
- True Dark: The pitch black world of the night, where Maxwells former assistant Charlie now roams in 'Their Realm'. Bad memories of a lost friend.
- 'Them': How would you like it if you struggled with the voices of one-thousand eldrich horrors for 100 years?
- Caster Magic: No one mortal should be able to wield that kind of power without assistance!
Motivations:
- Freedom: The life of Maxwell has always been a fight for freedom. When he was William Carter, he fought for the freedom to happily perform and live as he wanted. When he was taken by 'Them' he sought after freedom from their toying, and from the prison 'They' made for him. Now he wishes to be free of 'Them' entirely.
- Charlie: His beloved assistant. Charlie was the love of his life, and shes gone now because of his toying with powers he couldn't control. He knows shes out there, she freed the very man who freed Maxwell.
- Power: If he can't be free, then he wants his power back. He had grown bored before he was freed by a close friend, but ten years of living in the world he once twisted and controlled made him want more.
Fears:
- 'Them': He knows that they have a him a leash, he knows that they can make him do whatever they wish. And he fears the very power that he seeks to control.
- Losing Control: 'They' should not be allowed to exist on the physical plane. They exist in the void, in the shadows where man cannot see. If William loses control, 'they' get a host.
- True Dark: Charlie roams the dark, roams with 'them'. They turned her into a monster, one that was never meant to see the light of day again. 'They' made her kill whoever was left in the pitch blackness of the night, until Charlie took over that is.
