    Job Description:

This was where the supposed communication device giveaway was supposed to be at? It did make sense for the corporation that made the tech to be located at the Neutral Grounds, but that didn’t mean Aliarey had to like going all the way out there. Wasn’t that the place that made it impossible to use any sort of magic? Sure enough the closer she got to the area she was more convinced of the answer pointing to yes. Her body felt drained and head heavy. Any magic she could use was instantly being suppressed. This was something she did not want to get used to for she relied on her magic and to simply not have it left her vulnerable. It was not safe to be there. Still, Aliarey forced herself to press on. That iLac she had heard about had to be hers.

Shortly after entering the area the blonde noticed colored arrow signs pointing down a path. They were quite an eyesore to look at. They consisted of  lots of random coloring, sparkling ribbon trails along the edges, and far too much glitter that could have been left off of the signs completely. Was this someone’s art project? Curious, Aliarey walked up and cringed as she read the lettering marked upon the sign in front of her that she could of sworn was written in cake icing. “This way for your free iLac!!!!! =D” Oh my, just what sort of person would be there to give the item to her? She hoped with her life that it would not be the same person that made the signs. With a sigh escaping her lips, Aliarey started to follow the path.

The rest of the ‘artistic’ signs had been ignored except for one; the very last one. Her teal eyes blinked as she gazed at the thing. Unlike the rest this one was covered in small flashing lights of rainbow coloring. “Please press the button for assistance!” Alright, simple enough. It was strange though. The company announced about a free giveaway and yet there was no one else around. Well whatever. Surely she must have just missed the rush.

Aliarey walked up to the sign and pressed the small red button in its center. As soon as her finger had released it a colorful spray of confetti hit her smack in the face and a light-hearted tune started to play. She simply stood there in place, not moving any part of her body to react. This whole thing was really starting to get annoying and the anger was starting to storm inside her. Just as she was about to contemplate trying to destroy the sign with her own physical strength, a cheery faced young woman suddenly appeared. Had she been waiting for some non-suspecting individual to come by? Wait..what was she wearing? Was that…an iLac costume?! This was now borderline ridiculous.

“That is one ugly outfit,” Aliarey commented coldly, eyes glaring intensely at the woman. She had had enough of this and her attitude was starting to turn sour. “Was this your handiwork?” Her hands started to brush off the random confetti pieces from her clothing as well as the tiny bits that got into her hair.

The woman just giggled, seeming un-phased by the insult of her costume. “Yep! The company does these giveaways with each new update of the iLacs! It was my turn again and as you can see I like to make it fun!”  The costumed iLac corporation employee raised her arms above her head and twirled her body around in a little dance. She suddenly stopped as a thought came into her head. “Come to think of it, you’re the first person to come by all day. I wonder if they got the word out.” No doubt word got out, but not necessarily the word she wanted. Chances were people avoided the days that this particular woman was in charge of the giveaways.

“Well that means there are plenty of iLacs then?” There wasn’t a single iLac to be seen anywhere. Where exactly were they? If she had to spend too much time with this girl she was going to lose her mind.

“Huh?” The employee blinked her eyes, confused at the question. Her eyes then widened and she gasped as if she just had a brilliant epiphany. “Oh! Right!” She scurried off to a nearby tree and pulled out a suitcase from a hole beneath the base of its trunk. After pulling out a small object, presumably the iLac, she ran back over and put it in Aliarey’s hands. “There you go! One free iLac!”

Aliarey’s attention immediately went to the item that was now hers. This little thing was capable of all the things it supposedly could do? Well there was no reason to be doubtful. She’d test it out later on. Her eyes looked back up as she placed the object into a pouch along her waist. The employee was now holding out a cupcake, grinning widely. “You also get a complimentary cupcake!”

“Gee, thanks,” Aliarey took the cupcake but she could only stare at it in disgust. It looked perfectly edible and fine. The part that turned her stomach was that it reminded her of the signs. Lots of sprinkles and edible decorations that were falling off as she held it. How messy! The icing was getting all over her hands and it was then that she realized the lettering on the signs really was icing. “I think I am going to go now…”

The woman employee wished her well and said goodbye in many different ways as she jumped around. Aliarey just sighed as she turned around and walked off. She could still hear her even though she had retraced her steps back to the start of the path. What a headache. The cupcake was still in her hand and she was tempted to throw it on the ground and stomp on it. Instead, she settled on throwing it at the first sign that she had run into a while ago. The baked goodie hit the sign with a splat and stuck on. Hopefully it would serve as a warning to anyone else that went that way.
