Personality: Shen is a seemingly very well composed individual. He is extremely calm and decisive, and seems to have a very clear mind in most scenarios. However, this is the result of very strenuous mental and physical training he underwent when he was young. As a child, Shen was extremely rowdy and aggressive, and was what the locals where he lived referred to as a Demon Child. It was only by the guidance of the Temple Monks of Midi, that he was able to grow in to the man that he is today. He can still be quite aggressive at times, possessing a temper that must be managed daily. When he skips meditation, his thoughts become less clear and he is easily frustrated when he can't figure something out. During these times he's prone to bursts of rage, which is usually quite comical to experience but also sometimes frightening.
He is an extremely honorable and selfless warrior, who puts the needs of others before his own wants and desires. He is a strong believer in karma, and will go out of his way to help others in order to make his own karma better. He's certainly not perfect however, and does act selfishly without realizing it sometimes. His passion will sometimes blind him to the righteous path and he will act foolhardily without giving his actions enough proper thought and meditation. When these passions manifest, whether it be love, competition or hate, Shen can forgo his meditative practices and allow himself to slip in to anger.
Shen truly excels when in a group. He generally takes on a leadership role, usually being the most clear headed, able to make quick calculated decisions and usually without letting his emotions cloud his judgment. Though he's not perfect, or immune to his emotions. When those close to him are injured or put in harms way, his emotions can and most often will get in the way of his decision making. That being said, he dislikes putting his allies in compromising situations, and will most of the time take the most dangerous tasks upon himself. Shen also possesses an amazing sense of Empathy. He finds it easy to tell what people are thinking or feeling by their facial expressions, their words and their voice. As funny as it may seem, it is easier for him to deduce the feelings of others than it is for him to understand his own feelings. This empathetic nature, makes him a person with whom it is very easy to get along, and makes him a good leader.
Though he'd rather avoid it all together, in combat Shen does not seek to immediately eliminate his foe. For the majority of a battle, he will most often act passively, avoiding or redirecting his opponents attacks with as little use of force as possible in the hopes of wearing down his opponent, to the point where fighting is no longer necessary. The opponent Shen is facing, is always shown a moderate amount of respect, and he always treats his foes equally. There are always moments however, when time is of the essence, or he's fighting a truly evil opponent and the use of force is absolutely necessary. During these times, Shen reveals his true strength and attempts to end a battle as quickly and decisively as possible.
Likes:
- Meditation: Shen is often faced with troubling dilemmas that he can't seem to wrack his brain around. It is only through meditation that he can uncloud his mind and discover the right path for him to take. Shen meditates daily, to maintain his inner balance and it shows when he skips his daily meditations, as he'll begin to act harshly towards others, like a child who has not had his mid-afternoon nap.
- Exercise/physical training: Since he was a child, he had been forced to work and do physical training. These daily tasks eventually turned in to a habit, during which Shen feels calm and occupied. Whenever something is troubling Shen, and he finds he cannot meditate properly, pushing his body to its physical limits is the only alternative for him to put his mind at ease.
- The Night: For reasons unknown to him, Shen has always felt more at peace during the night, As if his soul was at rest. For this reason, Shen does not sleep very much throughout the evening, and ends up sleeping through the morning as he finds it much easier to accomplish most activities when the sun is down.
Dislikes:
- Alcohol: Shen values his ability to think clearly, and alcohol takes that away from him. He also can't hold his liquor worth a damn... Having lived in the high mountains of Midi for the majority of his life, his body has remained pure and he has not developed a tolerance to anything. The slightest sip and all rational thought goes out the window and Shen becomes a completely different person, until he wakes up the next morning in a strange place with an incredibly bad headache that Meditation will not help to soothe.
- Rowdy people: People who cause a ruckus for no good reason annoy Shen greatly. As someone who enjoys peace and quiet, loud obnoxious people make it difficult for Shen to maintain a calm demeanor.
- Discrimination: Shen was born different from others. His white eyes were perceived as a bad omen and he was labeled a Demon by his own people before being brought to the temple where he was raised. Thus Shen sympathizes with anyone with differences who suffer from discrimination.
Motivations:
- Enlightenment: Raised by monks, Shen has acquired the dream of one day reaching enlightenment. In the hopes of one day accomplishing this life long journey, he meditates and practices Martial Arts every day that he can spare the time.
- To Learn: For the majority of his life, He's lived inside of a Temple high up in the secluded mountains of Midi and is ignorant of most of the outside world. He knows practically nothing about foreign culture and etiquette and he's often very confused by the interactions of others, because the only human interaction he's had before his travels were with Monks and the wildlife of his country. Shen is always striving to learn proper human etiquette so that he doesn't always feel like such an outsider.
- To Combat Evil: Shen is uncertain why, but the reason is of no importance. To combat evil is a pure desire that he strives for, to make the world a better place in which to live. Shen believes that by conquering the evil in this world, he may also conquer the demons within himself and so long as he remains true to this goal, he will achieve enlightenment.
Fears:
- His Origin: Possibly Shen's greatest fear, is that he is in fact a Demon as the villagers who brought him to the temple said he was. Demons are inherently evil, and it is a near impossible task for one to achieve enlightenment.
- Himself: Though he manages it well, Shen possesses a dark side. A dormant anger that lies in waiting for the day that Shen finally lets loose his emotions. Shen is well aware of these inner demons, and though he has managed to control these emotions for the majority of his life, he fears the day that his emotions get the better of him and he can no longer control himself.
- Loss: Shen is a compassionate person, and there are a lot of people in this world that he cares for very much and he fears that he may not always be strong enough to protect them all, and he may somehow lose those that he cherishes.
General Appearance

Skin Tone: Fair complexion
Appearance: Shen's most notable feature, are his eyes that are completely white, save for the faint outline of his iris's. They have no pupils, and are hauntingly beautiful. Along with his fair skin, his dark brown hair provides a necessary amount of contrast to his pale appearance. His hair is naturally very straight and he usually lets it hang, but will sometimes tie it back to keep it out of his way during combat. His body is extremely fit. As someone who endures harsh physical training every day, there is hardly an ounce of fat on him and he is extremely muscular and lean. His clothing style is usually quite modest, preferring to wearing loose clothing that allows for maximum range of motion. He prefers a white kimono-top, with excessively long sleeves and matching pants, and a navy-grey apron tied around his waste. and black sandals. Having been raised by monks for so long, he feels no desire to change his style or accessorize, such things seem trivial to him.
