Chris left the Oak Temple with a smile on his face; tucking the sheet of papers into his pocket. While Infinity Hydra had the amazing magic using R.A.I.N.E. he still felt better writing his ideas down on paper. That and he didn’t think the care takers of the temple would look kindly on using magic within the hallowed halls. Still he managed to get a lot of research done for future ARMs.
He walked down the stairs and headed for the train station to take him back to the guild. More than anything he wanted to enter the more restricted parts of the library to learn more about the different kinds of Holder magic throughout history, but there was always someone near the door leading in. He was tempted to just teleport through, but again felt that the care takers would not take kindly to him undermining their jobs. Still he got a lot of information.
Half way to the train station Chris heard a distant explosion coming from the east side of the city. He waited a moment more before a second explosion followed the first. A slight grimace appeared on his face as he reached in and dug out a single piece of paper. On it was a job he copied down from the guild board since he was in the area. It described a fire mage that was running wild on random days in Oak Town. Looks like this might be one of those random days. Without hesitation he turned and ran towards the sounds of destruction and panic.
When he arrived he slowed to a stunned stop at the destruction happening in the market. Fire was everywhere; burning businesses, homes, and worse people. It was loss of life that he couldn’t comprehend, as people were running in random directions trying to flee the destruction. And in the center of it all a lone man stood; the flames casting a menacing light upon his face. And his eyes were the scariest of all, as they were completely blank.
Shaking himself out of his stupor Chris ran forward as fast as he could. He had to stop this mad man before any more people lost their lives. He didn’t have far to run, but he skidded to a stop when he realized the man wasn’t alone. Several people stood around him; also not seeming to see the destruction that they were causing. All looked to be fire mages, as each seemed to shoot random fireballs at the area surrounding them. A group of three seemed to notice that Chris wasn’t fleeing and turned to face him.
A slight grimace came to Chris’s lips as he held out his right hand; the light from the fires dancing on the ring he wore. It looked like it was made of silver with a silver eye welded on top. He really wanted to use the sword, but fire can’t put fire out. Neither could lightning, but it was better than fire. ”Weapon ARM. Electric Lance!” The ring shattered into pieces of light that reformed into a light blue quarterstaff. On the tip a series of lightning bolts frozen in mid flight give it the appearance of a spearhead. He watched in horror as the fire mage in the middle held up his arm towards a group of fleeing people. No!
