Personality:
Sage is a very reclusive person. This distance he keeps from others comes from a concoction of different events. He dislikes many people because people have caused him nothing but pain in the past. His parents were cruel and due to this he sees the bad in everyone first and the good second. However, Sage normally doesn’t spend enough time around people to get that second realization of good in them. He has a severe mistrust of everyone around him. He also derives this hatred for people from the neglect he faced as an urchin on the streets of towns. While going from town to town he developed this hatred towards the rich and greedy because no matter how much they have, it is more than likely more than he had. The only things he feels comfortable around are his cat, Wisp who is now dead, and the stars. He would always watch the stars after his mother would beat him and he continues to this day. Every day before he slept, he would gaze up at the stars and look for the comfort of their vastness and beauty. He wakes up every day to learn more and become powerful so that he might never again have to live in that pit he crawled out of as a child. With this eagerness to learn comes Sage’s love for books and knowledge. This is why he spent most of his time in libraries after he ran away from home. In particular, he spent a large amount of time in the library at Crocus. He never really learned the name of the librarians and he never told them his name. So the librarians just started calling him the little sage because of all the reading he would do. This is where Sage got the name he uses. He despises everything his mother has done including the name that she gave him, Carter. He decided to replace the name Carter with Sage. To this day his real name is a touchy topic and tells no one about it. He always uses the name Sage Rhodes, giving up his true name to someone would show almost complete trust in them. While he is protective of his past he is more willing to share it than his name. Also coming from the hatred for his mother, Sage dislikes all things bitter. Whether it be another person or a bitter piece of food, he tries to avoid all things bitter. Throughout his past and to this day, Sage tries to keep a positive outlook. With all the sadness of his childhood he would tell himself jokes and will sometimes randomly start snickering when he thinks of one. But for all the jokes and immaturity that come from his lack of a childhood, he is very independent. He spent the first half of his life in a mud hole with a witch of a mother and a father that was never home, then the second half on the street going from town to town. He can survive on his own and doesn’t like to rely on others.
In battle Sage tries to keep calm and collected. Sage’s time on the street taught him to stay patient and observant for openings to strike. Waiting for the perfect time to punch through the enemy’s defenses. One thing that always baffled Sage was his seemingly perplexing sixth sense. He isn’t sure how he obtained such power but he for short periods of time see into the future almost as though echoes of the timeline came back to show Sage what’s going to happen. Because of this is, Sage is very self-assured, believing he knows how the battle will end before it begins. This is how he would survive on the streets and his talent carries over into battles. He looks to the future to see when his opponents step falters and he attacks that weakness. In the event, that his opponent has a near flawless defense and near zero mistakes it confuses Sage and dazes him for a second but he quickly recovers and wings the rest of the fight. As for leadership, much of his opinions of people carry over from his non-combat personality. He trusts few people and unless he personally knows and trusts the person ordering him around he won’t follow them. After spending so much time in libraries, Sage feels he knows better than many people even if he doesn’t and makes it hard to command him to do just about anything. In a position of power, Sage expects people to disobey him just as he would them. Because of this, he is very loose in leadership and tends to leave the people he was told to command to do their own things. This can be bad and good depending on the situation. But none the less, Sage dislikes giving commands almost just as much as receiving them.

He tends to wear whatever he has available, usually a plain white t-shirt with jeans and an old pair of boots, but he almost always wears his dad's old leather trench coat with a high collar. The coat is tattered dark brown leather that reaches down to Sage's ankles. He also carries around his dad's beaten knife. A 5 inch steel blade with a dark stained wooden handle that has thick rope tied around the tang where the wooden has chipped off.

    Carter’s surface personality can be pretty easily summed up – laid back. Many who don't really know him would say to the point of apathy. When surrounded by people he doesn’t know, Carter usually shows little enthusiasm, or any emotion at all for that matter. On occasion he will make a dry sarcastic remark, usually an insult. In the company of strangers Carter will usually keep a straight, uninterested, and sometimes disappointed expression on his face even when joking. However, when he is surrounded by friends he is much more open letting his friendlier half out usually showing a smile. He is most open when he is alone or with a select few people he trusts the most. In this state, Carter lets who he really is show. He will walk differently swaying or swinging his arms, saying random things that come to mind, humming tunes, and acting much more childlike. This tends to be Carter’s mind set most of the time, he just hides behind a wall of visual apathy. His line of thinking goes something like: "If you believe you're better than everyone, you clearly don’t need my help." However, this thought tends to pass unless the individual did something to really anger Carter. While not to the same extent, lazy people also irk him. Similarly to laziness, Carter finds failures of others merely an annoyance but despises the slightest mistakes he himself makes. This double standard of being too forgiving coupled with being over critical of himself can cause Carter a lot of extra trouble.

    Carter doesn’t believe he is someone worth looking up to. Leaders being responsible for their followers, Carter isn’t too keen on influencing others; as such, he doesn’t like the idea of being a leader much either. But you also won’t catch him following others he doesn’t trust and will never blindly follow anyone. A leader needs to inspire and have the trust of their followers where Carter gives out trust sparingly. Because of this, he doesn’t like following others, preferring to stick to himself as well as letting others follow their own path. While not having much defense capabilities at all, Carter takes a defensive and reactive style of fighting. Employing evasion and attempting to weaken his opponents, Carter tries his hardest to avoid combat.  However, when pushed to the edge, Carter isn't afraid to utilize deadly force to save himself and more importantly his companions.

    While Carter goes out of his way to help those around him, he at least thinks twice before coming to the aid of narcissists and people with bloated egos. His line of thinking goes something like: "If you believe you're better than everyone, you clearly don’t need my help." However, this thought tends to pass unless the individual did something to really anger Carter. While not to the same extent, lazy people also irk him. Similarly to laziness, Carter finds failures of others merely an annoyance but despises the slightest mistakes he himself makes. This double standard of being too forgiving coupled with being over critical of himself can cause Carter a lot of extra trouble.

    Carter doesn’t believe he is someone worth looking up to. Leaders being responsible for their followers, Carter isn’t too keen on influencing others; as such, he doesn’t like the idea of being a leader much either. But you also won’t catch him following others he doesn’t trust and will never blindly follow anyone. A leader needs to inspire and have the trust of their followers where Carter gives out trust sparingly. Because of this, he doesn’t like following others, preferring to stick to himself as well as letting others follow their own path. While never actively seeking it out, if Carter would find himself in a position of leadership, he probably would never issue a direct order rather he would give vague guidance and ideas.

Likes:

○ History: In particular, Carter enjoys antiques and artifacts of that past. He hopes to one day have his own diverse collection to browse and show off.
○ Luxuries: Shiny and expensive looking items tend to catch Carter's eyes. He also enjoys other costly items like fine fabrics, art, and foods.
○ Coffee: Carter likes to brew coffee just as much as brewing his potions. The taste and energy boost coupled with the production process Carter can experiment with makes it a perfect pass time. (It also has a history of royal expense making it more appealing to him)
○ Cats: After spending time among the people of Joya, Carter developed a fondness towards the half cat inhabitants and has a positive outlook of other half humans.

Dislikes:

○ Laziness: There's always something to be doing, whether it be making potions, doing research, or finishing a job; Carter hates it when he and others waste time. He also finds it irritating when people don't act on opportunities they take for granted.
○ Failure: Carter isn't one to take failure well and usually broods over his mistakes.
○ Narcissists: Carter has a deep disdain for egotistical individuals and tries to keep his distance from them.
○ Being Confined: While not to the level of a phobia, Carter is not a fan of being in tight/small spaces.

Motivations:

○ Fulfillment: Carter aims to achieve the pinnacle of his alchemical research maintaining the tradition his parents taught him. He hopes to one day create a philosopher's stone and master its use.
○ Wealth: While just sitting on mounds of precious stones and metals is something that motivates Carter, the title "Richest Man in the World" is also an appealing thought.
○ Revenge: Carter wants to exact revenge on those who killed his family and the rest of the Silver Alchemists.

Fears:

○ Captivity: Carter fears losing his freedom greatly, and the idea of being helpless to do anything about it is also a frightening thought.
○ The Sea: When Carter was much younger on a boat taking him far from his home, he almost drowned after the ship was attacked by privateers. As a result, he developed a phobia of the sea, Thalassophobia. He doesn't care much for boats or anything having to do with water either.
○ Isolation: Carter is fine being unaccompanied, sometimes preferring it. However, when everything seems to be against him, he is afraid of having no one to turn to leaving him to stand alone.
