Re: Chasing Our Own Paths
Panting heavily a young woman was seen passing a hefty load of crates at the cargo bay near the harbour, dodging all the buff and sweaty sailors busy unloading their ships as she went. She cursed when she saw her target slip past a set of barrels and disappear in the shadows of the alley leading further into town, and tried to speed up as much as she could, planting her hands on the barrels as she went and pushed herself off for a summersault over the blockade. A perfect landing that ended in a deep squat before her hands tapped the dusty brick floor, allowing her a handful of seconds to get used to the dim light around her. The ravenhaired woman growled softly and stood up, her eyes searching intently for that pesky thing she was supposed to catch.
At first this had seemed like a piece of cake; catching a magically enchanted cookie, how hard could it be? Right? Very hard, so it seemed. No-one had bothered to tell her that this thing was faster than the winds, and oh so annoying. For the past two days it had been toying with her. Day one in Hargeon had consisted of a 24 hour chase that'd left her drained of all her energy, so when she thought she'd lost that stupid little piece of candy she'd gotten herself a room at one of the inns, one that still remained standing after an apparent attack, to rest. Kenna, being new to this town, had asked the innkeeper for some information regarding the latest events in town, and had so learnt about a sea monster having attacked this once flourishing city. The innkeeper too had been kind enough to inform her of the authorities having set up a local office regarding passports, in case she was interested. The young maiden had figured that she might as well go out to get a passport of her own, seeing as it could always come in handy. Who knew, perhaps her search for answers regarding herself could lead her abroad... and getting into trouble for something as measly as a passport wouldn't be worth it.
So, with a plan set for the following day, Kenna had thanked the innkeeper and headed back to her room for a good night's rest. Had it not been for that persistent piece of cinnamon that had decided for her to become the target of his jokes and its mischief. Perched upon her night-stand the gingerbread man had watched her until dawn, and had decided to wake her up by cannonballing her in the face before running off. Seething with rage Kenna had chased the thing halfway the foyer in nothing but her undergarments while sending an innocent lamp in pursuit of the cookie, and had retreated towards her room just as fast after realising her attire at that moment and the people staring at her.
Nonetheless, once dressed and awaiting breakfast in the mess hall downstairs, the gingerbread man had been steadily taunting Kenna two tables down, leaving her to resign from the thought of letting that agitating cookie be. She would catch the damned thing, even if it would take her 6 weeks to do so. The innkeeper and some local customers had noticed the bothersome gingerbread man too, and upon asking whether the young maiden were to catch it, gave her some advice regarding the history of the little fellow. With those few details of it having a speed like none other, Kenna had thus set out in pursuit of it after having taken down a decent breakfast.

Re: Chasing Our Own Paths
Kenna advanced steadily, watching every nook and cranny until carefully for the gingerbread menace. It would most-likely already have gone far ahead in the time she'd taken to scavenge the area here, but for some reason the gingerbread man had always returned to her vicinity for another unnecessary egg-on. It was funny how he could find her almost everywhere, whereas she lost it more often than not. The young maiden had to be fair though, this unending chase had done her more good than she wished to admit; her stamina and regular speed had sky-rocketed during the past few days of pursuit. "Where are you, you little shi-" Her words fell silent and her eyes squinted upon seeing the cookie pop up upon a 2 feet high stone wall, gingerly waving at Kenna to get her attention. "Now don't you dare move another inch, you little thwat!" She exclaimed as she started running again, speeding up gradually while the cookie just mockingly giggled and hopped off the wall. On her respective turn Kenna too jumped over the stone wall, only to drop down on a stranger's back 9 feet below her. The man scowled at her, but instead got a palm pressed against his face and his head cocked back as Kenna ushered him to remain silent. Her eyes skimmed the ground swiftly, and in the distance noticed the little gingerbread man scurrying off into the crowds.
Clenching her teeth Kenna jumped back on her feet, disregarding the angered man behind her and instead immediately flung herself into the mass of people gathered on the square, not giving it any heed as she bashed into people, threw them off their feet or even accidently ended up kneeing them in various regions as she passed. Gingerbread man on his turn seemed more eager on giving the ladies in the crowd a hard time by flipping skirts, while the men had to make do with sudden wedgies and kicks in the shin. The high-pitched yelps that arose above the ruckus of the crowd were the perfect clues for the raven-haired maiden to find the direction her prey was heading off into. A odd thundering feeling started fuelling her from within as she let her will to surpass her limits and catch the gingerbread man take over at a rapid rate. Magic essence soared through her body and veins, its effects already showering the young maiden as an aura of blue, purple and black engulfed her faintly. Every step she took seemed sturdier, and ever time she took another the distance between herself and the target lessened, until even the gingerbread man had to stop fooling around and actually make a run for it.
The amount of people around them diminished rather quickly, and at the edges of the square Kenna finally caught up with the brittle cookie enough to attempt an actual assault. Without uttering as much as a warning, Kenna unleashed her powers for the first time, on what might've been the most helpless opponent ever. "Tenkū Haja Chimimōryō!" Wave after wave of ghastly souls spawned from the massive 9 feet circle that appeared before her, all in chase of the only target currently before them. Mercilessly they kept on bashing into the poor humanoid biscuit, till it got flung into a nearby wall and slithered down. The Etherborn mage walked up to it and gripped its tiny body tightly, only to get some heartbreaking whimpering from it. Then a stingy feeling spread throughout her hand as the gingerbread man's façade fell and tried to bite her. Sure, it was just a humanoid cookie, but this wasn't exactly the thing she would say felt relaxing either. "Whatever..., you fool."
A powerful flare erupted from the place he'd bitten Kenna, and the next moment was sent flying into a nearby tent, ripping the canvas as it went. The raven-haired maiden sighed and followed suit, only to stumble upon a rowdy make-shift office within. Not paying much attention to it, the only thing she needed was the gingerbread man's lifeless cookie-body. She bent over to pick it up and startled as a man tapped her on the shoulder. He lead her away without listening to her protests and five minutes later Kenna walked back out in surprise, a nice picture tucked within her hand and a lifeless cookie in the other. An unexpected, yet welcome turn of events she called it, all till a certain man called out to her. The man she'd used as a landing ground not too long ago. "YOU! How the hell did you even get here before me?!" He nearly shouted in disdain, leaving Kenna with this slight feeling of guilt as she backed away. "An unlucky turn of events...?" Kenna tried gingerly, yet only fueled the man's angered feelings. As he tried to lash out to her, Kenna side-stepped and, in a rush of not wanting to deal with this, made a run for it. To her it seemed like a regular run, but to the crowd around her, the young maiden had disappeared in a blur, only leaving dust twirling on the spot she'd been standing in but a second ago.
