Years ago... I was just nothing more than a soldier, no a mere mercenary who fought many battles, I've seen lands lost, miracles lead by those who ride with the stars and fall with them in turn.
I was bred for nothing but war
My purpose turned me into a tool
A man with no freedom nor any voice
Who carries the sins of his contracts
Through grief and strife, I prevailed and faced countless battles and had killed twice as those that I saved. A monstrosity robbed of right, a man who not gained honor, living in a curse of dread and loss all for the gain of others.
Thunder shook and brought me back to reality. I was in a small military center, seated and have waited patiently for new orders to arrive. The grim weather coated and blended with the smooth and durable grey color of steel, computers of the modern age were filled with data and reports of progress, every minute there's always an update, every hour there's a mission and everyday felt like a never ending cycle.
If this is all that life has offered to me, then I'm but a hollow shell, a shadow of former glory. The heavens cries, a cold mist forms and all that you could see pass the transparent sliding doors was the streets covered in as the overpass provides shelter for those who wish to avoid being blessed by the downpour.
Then she came, dropping down from a vehicle and escorted by her men and entered the center in order to distribute orders to all those available and idle.
As she walked across the halls fastening her gloves, we shot glances at each other and smirked, we were happy to live to see each other another day.
I have acknowledged that now she would be in need of me, I'd gladly lend her my aid just as she had aided me. She's a sight for sore eyes, a friend that I would look forward to, she rose to the status of captain who leads her own squad and I was just but a mere lieutenant who just lost his own. My captain died just for the sake of the mission, no matter how much I committed myself, dived into a shower of bullets, allies keep constantly dying and some just died because they had to, for everyone's sake.
I remember her words clearly, as it forced me to stand and follow her.
"You've gained something today, follow me my friend, a new path awaits."
