A collision between Destinies (Character Mention) Fate.zero.600.1308769

Years ago... I was just nothing more than a soldier, no a mere mercenary who fought many battles, I've seen lands lost, miracles lead by those who ride with the stars and fall with them in turn.

I was bred for nothing but war
My purpose turned me into a tool
A man with no freedom nor any voice
Who carries the sins of his contracts

Through grief and strife, I prevailed and faced countless battles and had killed twice as those that I saved. A monstrosity robbed of right, a man who not gained honor, living in a curse of dread and loss all for the gain of others.

Thunder shook and brought me back to reality. I was in a small military center, seated and have waited patiently for new orders to arrive. The grim weather coated and blended with the smooth and durable grey color of steel, computers of the modern age were filled with data and reports of progress, every minute there's always an update, every hour there's a mission and everyday felt like a never ending cycle.

If this is all that life has offered to me, then I'm but a hollow shell, a shadow of former glory. The heavens cries, a cold mist forms and all that you could see pass the transparent sliding doors was the streets covered in as the overpass provides shelter for those who wish to avoid being blessed by the downpour.

Then she came, dropping down from a vehicle and escorted by her men and entered the center in order to distribute orders to all those available and idle.

As she walked across the halls fastening her gloves, we shot glances at each other and smirked, we were happy to live to see each other another day.

I have acknowledged that now she would be in need of me, I'd gladly lend her my aid just as she had aided me. She's a sight for sore eyes, a friend that I would look forward to, she rose to the status of captain who leads her own squad and I was just but a mere lieutenant who just lost his own. My captain died just for the sake of the mission, no matter how much I committed myself, dived into a shower of bullets, allies keep constantly dying and some just died because they had to, for everyone's sake.

I remember her words clearly, as it forced me to stand and follow her.

"You've gained something today, follow me my friend, a new path awaits."

I wasn't so sure what to expect but predicting the future wouldn't be a fruitful use of my time, the present is important as they say. After the death of my superiors, my division was disbanded and thus we were assigned to various roles.

I find it completely ridiculous that we part ways
All because the spider lost its head
Instead of living on and waiting for another to take place, we were recycled
Like a broken down android being scrapped of functioning parts to fill the void of others.

Alongside with my new captain and others, we walked straight into a big room, decorated with holographic screens, the floors were metal and white and in the middle of a room was a table of sorts. Its borders consists of glowing neon blue, like the floor it was white as snow and in the center of a table was a small bulb that creates holographic projections of data which were designed by the computers around us.

We simply took our positions around this table, prepared and ready to discuss matters of importance.

"Everyone, this is Noir from the 22nd Calvalry, he will be joining our Task Force from here on out."

"Thank you for having me, it is an honor to serve alongside this captain and her allies."

I bowed my head with my fists clenched on my chest, she and I both knew this day would come.

All of her men greeted me as I shook each of their hands.
Of course we always have to be formal whenever work is involved, that's the way it goes around here, its an etiquette most valued by the warrior of Mirai, regardless of faction.

    "Operator if you please.."

The room went dark, as the automatic door slid close as my attention was drawn to a projection made by the computer; briefing begins as I pay close attention.

“Gentleman we’ve been recently assigned to become crew members of the airship Tintagel on their exploration to Nabudis. Now I know most of you would assume that this is a simple escort mission but it’s not. According to our client it’s possible that their rivals may come to Nabudis as well in order to steal their research.”

The projections gradually phase through the table, as a screen unveils itself within it revealing the surface of the planet and its geographical structure. According to what we’ve been presented with, we shall land in a desert like area and March into some kind of ruins, possibly the place where the researchers plan to go.

Whatever this place maybe could be of high value knowing that other parties may come after it, this shall be my first mission with her, someone I’d happy to call a friend.

“They are to be protected at all times; in addition Tintagel should also be defended.  Understand that this will be the only airship we’ll need for this entire operation, if Tintagel fails then we shall be stranded on this planet.”

One of her men raised their hands, they go by the code name Gallant, a blonde man who appeared to be much younger than I.

“May I question this Aunt- I mean Captain, why can we not use any other airships other than the Tintagel?”

“It’s under the client’s request,  I’m assuming that he expects to surprise his rivals that he hired us.”

I can only assume she also questioned the client’s way of thinking but if things are to proceed this way, there’s a chance that we can be stranded on the planet for days till one of our squads arrive.

Of course this isn’t a suicide mission, unless of course we unexpectedly encounter a huge enemy force. Well its natural for the division to handle this job, after all each member has a field specializations which does not require the skills and know how alone.

We’d use something that most would consider “magic.”

That’s the only thing special about the squad I recently joined.
Less troubles for me, It be a good change of pace.

“Tintagel has been modified and equipped with retroflexive panels; this means it can land safely without being detected by radar or seen unless the hatch opens. Half of the team will have to stay behind and guard the ship, we’ll have to dig in and make a small encampment half way to the ruins to which it can still be in firing range of Tintagel’s 45mm Photon barrels.”

“Understand Tintagel’s ship can only be compromised once the cannon starts firing, is that understood? We’ll depart within 0400 hours”

As the Captain gave the final words of her instruction; we all stood up tall saluting our respect and acknowledgement to her. As we were dismissed, the captain invited me over to have a private chat with her up on the second floor balcony where one can seem the setting sun, which light pierces even through the thick rain.

The balcony used to be a VIP area for the wealthy to dine privately with a few high ranking officers, that all stopped since two of them were sniped from a long distance.
Thus it served no purpose, other than what the Captain intends for us.

She sits right at the west side corner of the Balcony by the metal railing and gazes upon the horizon as the rain clouds melted away before the sinking sun.

“How have you been old friend?”

I passed her by only to set my hands on the metal railing and looked in the same direction she was.

“Relieved to be taken into the Task Force despite my failure to save mine.”

She smirked as her eyes looked further.

“You should start being hard on yourself, after all there’s only so much that we can do, may I remind you that we are not Gods?”

She phased her hand up into the air, blocking a few rays of sunlight from searing right through her irises.

“Truth be told, reality isn’t kind but what of yours? Surely you could have performed better than I.”

I turned my back from the sun with both my hands on my elbows, leaning on to the metal pipe railing.

“Being pessimistic can never suit you, you always look better with a smile than a frown.”

It was hard to even smile now.
All my life I served as nothing more than an armed soldier
Paid to kill, to serve and to claim victory for others
Not once have I felt the sensation of being a knight
I thought maybe if I did, it will help me remember what my past was like before blood stained these hands.

She faced my direction as she dropped both her hands; her smile disappears in an instant.

“My power isn’t a true miracle, nor is it meant for destruction. Sometimes I wish you could just lighten up a bit and be a bit more ignorant. Do what you’ve got and be happy what you have, wavering will only make your fallen comrades feel guilty.”

She may have not known what happened to my division but she certainly does prove a point.
I feel so stupid for sulking, so I laughed it off letting lose all the regret that I have up into the air as they flew away like they were balloons.

“I just have to wait for you to say something like that, how pathetic can I be?”

She did not even use magic to make me smile
Only her words knocked some sense back into me in an instant
And here I was thinking that I’m strong enough to carry it all
Once again she proved me wrong.

“Need not say that, everyone needs a helping hand from time to time, it is selfish for you to grab all the glory but anyways now that you’ve shook of that weight off your shoulders I suppose you can listen what I have to say.”

Humility is a thing that I have gotten used to, around her of course. This matter seemed important.

“I have signed your up to represent the Task Force in the Olympian Competition that’s coming up within a few weeks!”

I did not expect this; she signed me up already to be the Task Force representative right after I joined?
I was shocked to hear this; no words escaped my lips as my brows were raised up high in surprise.

“Wouldn’t it appear to be strange for a new addition to even participate?”

She pats my back while wearing that childish smile.

“Your stats and records are ideal for you to participate and besides we’d surprise the 6th Romanian that a former cavalry member cannot be underestimated. Of course this will only happen after we complete our mission.”

How is she so confident that we’d be able to come back to Mirai without any trouble?
Well I guess I should trust in her decisions for now, she probably has orchestrated this plot before my official registration to be a Task Force member.

Now the Olympian Competition is a military sporting event where some of Mirai’s greatest Task Forces participate in order to show and display their strength and capability through a series of trials and tests.

I pondered at the thought of it, someone like me being part of the Olympian event. I cannot let this opportunity pass by and if she believes I can do it then I can. I took her word and if she believes I can pull through this competition then I must believe too.

However the thought of being spectated isn’t a comfortable one.
Well I’m a guy who holds some stage fright to some extent.

I simply jested with her and said: “I’ll be lucky if I died.”

The sun is about to disappear as the hue of the sky changes. The blanket of clouds regained dominance over the heavens as not even a star can be seen if one were to look up.

“Me and my nephew are going to have dinner with the client, care to join us? I’m sure he’d like to meet you.”

The captain stood up as she walked back into the building, I followed after with a dull expression on my face. The thought of being in a competition, I just can’t find the right words to describe it. Perhaps I wasn’t expected to receive this kind of blessing.

It just goes to show that there’s never a dull moment with friends.

He seemed to have changed, I could sense loneliness in this man and slapping some sense into him is all that he needs right now.

I did remember that he vows to get stronger in order to fight by my side and now that time has come.
I didn’t like how he looked as I entered the center to pick him up.

I guess losing his previous captain made him too conscious of his actions, whatever they were.

I was right in signing him up for the Olmypian, he needs something to put his mind off it.

I must say that he and I are both excited to go on his first mission with a group led by none other than yours truly; I was expecting he’d be a bit more spirited.

Well I guess it was because I asked him a dumb question that leads him to recall the memory of his loss.
That was pretty dumb; I read the report about it to and didn’t even consider his feelings.
I’ll certainly make up for it in time, after all we’re old buddies, we can’t help but reach our hands out on their shoulders and pat their backs and comfort them as much as possible.

My Nephew Gallant was waiting by the car as Noir followed me from behind. Well of course I have to take the front seat besides the driver, I always ride shotgun.
I am hoping that he’d be able to make his first friend in the task force, other than me of course.
We are heading to a fine restaurant, not one of the best I’ve eaten from but it will do.
Course our client likes cheap things as much as possible.

Sometime after going through traffic we arrived five minutes late.

Well he’s a patient man, he can take his time.
He raised his hand in order to draw our attention towards the table he sat on and by the looks of it he just arrived himself since he was just about to take a seat.

“Come come, we have much to talk about!”

He was a man with white long hair, dressed in robes like that of a mage.
A few eyes were locked onto his appearance assuming that he was cosplaying.
He really does stand out, I did tell him to wear casuals but did he listen to me?

Absolutely not but hey.. he’s like family to me.

Post by Dubhlainn 9th December 2015, 10:57 pm

In my usual travels around this planet I find Mirai quite interesting, they made almost everything that was supposed to be impossible, possible through material means, such as moving pictures or better yet controlling the fate of a soul which you can view on screen.

I think they call it video or arcade games? They can be quite addicting especially to the youth of today.

If I were born here I wouldn't have the time to even pursue the study of magic
There were just too many distractions here in Mirai
One thing I can't deny is how amazing their technology advanced far more than any world I've been in.

I was just taking my time only a few minutes has passed since I sat down on this table here waiting for my niece and her nephew to arrive.

They brought in another man with them, for someone like my niece to bring home a man means one thing... its probably her boyfriend.

ITS Clearly unfair for my niece to even be in a relationship before me!
Well I shouldn't jump into conclusions just yet but let's see how this turns out.

“I apologize Uncle, we were held up in traffic.” She was always so formal when it comes to business but well of course usually she’d slouch down on a chair and ask if there’s any food to eat. Right now I’m their current client so I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised?

“I only just arrived here myself, don’t be modest sit down.”

“Where are my manners? Uncle this is Noir, the newest member of the task force and an old friend of mine who used to be part of the 22nd cavalry.”

Ah I’m glad that she doesn’t have a boyfriend yet but at the same time I was hoping she’d get one right about now, there’s always bound to be love in the battlefield.

"Thank you for having me, it’s a great honor to meet my captain's relatives."

He seems pretty honest but I can't help but be curious about this fellow.
He must be quite something to be invited by my little niece here.

"Likewise Noir, I heard from your captain that both of you were quite close and if I remember reading your background, you were part of a super soldier project, am I correct?"

I know I shouldn't press this information but I really must hear it from him in person.

"That is correct, I see you have read much about me."

My niece gave both me and Noir an expression in such a way she's anticipating something to happen in our conversation. Gallant of course is already holding the menu and reaching it out to his aunt.

A waitress tended to our table, my eyes rolled over to the length of the waitress's miniskirt.

My niece and her nephew are already making themselves comfortable in ordering some food.
I guess she couldn't help but act as herself in front of me.
She's always hungry, a glutton no doubt and I'm surprised that didn't change her physique.
The time I place food on the table and left it for five minutes, she already started gobbling down almost half the meat I prepared.
Uther, your daughter hasn't changed but if you were here right now, you'd be proud of her achievements.

All of us passed the menu around and selected the meals of our choice.
Noir of course is the only one who's holding back on his as he picked meals that are much cheaper.
On the otherhand my niece and her nephew gallant did not hesitate at all.

Welp there goes some pocket money.

“If I may Noir, I would like to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind.”

He simply nodded in acknowledgement, wearing an expression that’s ready to face the questions that may come; I can tell he’s a little bit nervous.

“Do you have any memories before you became a soldier?”

“I have not, my memories were tampered and jumbled, I cannot trust my memories completely.”

My niece and gallant listened attentively, ever so curious as to what I’m about to say.
They looked like children, watching television and anticipating some kind of plot line in a story.
Well if that’s the case best I give one right away, hopefully it wouldn’t be too boring for them.

“I see, if given the chance would you like to find out about the past?”

He shook his head and replied.

“My past concerns me not and what matters is the present, I don’t dwell on it as much as I used to.”

Well of course he wouldn’t, he was trained to focus improving his battle skills to become one heck of a fighter.
If he cares not about the past there must be something in the present that he’s happy with.

“How good are you anyways? Could you rate yourself from one to five?”

“I cannot rate the battle prowess I have but I’m afraid you’ll have to see it for yourself, you can be the judge of my skills and abilities.”

My niece is pouting her cheeks, Gallant looks dumbfounded as always.
I’m just gonna ignore them and continue on with my conversation.
I can’t help but chuckle at his answer, of course I was curious and hopefully I get the chance to see him in action.

“Uncle if I may the reason why I brought him here to you to help him understand his own abilities better.”

Now I see where this is going, it must have been her intention all this time but for what I wonder?

"Now what abilities are those? Care to give the details at least? What have you learned so far and what part of it do you not understand?"

"My magic affects objects that I touch, specifically objects that are of some use to a battle. It enhances the object making it far more durable than it ever was."

    He was hesitant.

    "And?"

"There's more, some weapons that I hold regardless of what shape or form they have can sometimes has this special ability to do a unique kind of attack which I do not fully understand. At first I thought my powers were just enhancement of arms but there was more to it than that. I did believe I was an enhancement mage but some of these changes were rather bizarre."

Yeah... there goes my pocket money indeed.
“I’m afraid we will have to discuss this when we board the Tintagel, we’ll have plenty amount of time to do so, in the meantime I do believe we have some company.”

A woman in Romanian military uniform stepped, she yelled her voice up happily and then…

“HEEEEY RIVAL! I DIDN’T EXPECT YOU TO SEE YOU HERE!” Augustine the leader of the Romanian Fleet. Oh joy here we go.
