With the sky just dark enough to still have visible stars, and the Rose Garden lights still up, Nova observed their surroundings. Not many people had arrived in the usually busy marketplace, making this the perfect time for the enby to shop, in search of a few minor magic items, a unique treat or two, and new reading material. It was a long way from Oahu, but the mage didn't mind the travel, only the people they had interact with. Finding an open bookstore, they entered, and began rummaging through the shelves. A little hole in the wall shop, it only had a couple aisles. In the front, there was a coffee table and chairs, with a stack of extremely old books, a deck of bent playing cards, a set of old dominoes, and a checkers board. Finding something that piqued their interest, Nova took a seat at one of the chairs and began to read, without much care for the yawning cashier, a middle aged woman, who was reading her own book.

The Rose Garden was such a wonderful place, though louder than one would like it to be. It was a like Shirotsume was if only the guild that resided in it was replaced with a church and the very noise pollution of the town softened by at least half of it's noise. Granted, she had come through the more busy and noisier districts, she still had wanted to at the very least relax and enjoy some quiet time to be able to unwind from recent events without needing to be around the very guild members that she'd had a surprising encounter with. The whole thing worked out well, though she'd rather not have been involved with it at all, the way she had been dragged into it only helped to keep herself hidden from the public truth of exactly who she was and for whom her allegiance was towards. The whole thing in it of itself was more troublesome than she liked, but beggars can't be choosers.

The shopping district the red head had gotten to was much quieter, less busy, and very much more like the way she liked it. The powder blue heels on her feet with as small, but still noticeable length was the way she enjoyed them. Her hands straightened out the dress she wore on her body, seeming to enjoy the feel and enjoying the overall look of the dress on her. After fixing out the outfit, she pushed back her hair behind her back, laying down and curled near the ends to give a more overall girly appearance that she loved to have. Two larger pieces pulled from the sides had been pulled back and a bow in the same shade as her attire.

Madison slipped right into a bookstore without even the littlest bit of a second thought. It was great to explore a towns paperback collections, just to see who had the best stuff, then migrate there often until she'd read it all. The first thing that struck her eyes was a large stack of books and some cards and dominoes. That seemed like a great place to begin, inspecting those books that seemed to be left vacant to anyones use. A quick pause at the table prompted a quick blush to her cheeks. A person sat at the table, rather adorable looking too. A soft smile lit the little Savage Skull girls face, placing one hand on top of the other in front of her body, as if her arms formed a V-shape. "E-Excuse me. May I join you for a bit? You look like you have a bit of reading on your hands." Her smile grew a little larger, starring joyfully at the stranger as she had waited for their response.

Books are wonderful distractions. They can transport you to worlds far beyond your own, where anything and everything is possible. One can become larger than life, or smaller, offering relief for those dissatisfied with their bodies. In text, the impossible is now not only possible, but often likely, as it makes for the more interesting read. The youngest prince becomes the king, the woman becomes the knight and rides into the sunset, the enby learns to fly. Unfortunately, being too far off the ground leads to awkward situations like what Nova was in now, where one is caught off-guard by reality and forced back to their body. Nova blinked, once more in the little bookstore, and found a very cute girl standing before her, obviously wanting to sit and read. A very, very cute girl, in a light blue sundress. Auburn hair framed her face and flirtatious smile before streaming down her back, her arms in a "v" as she leaned onto the table. Nova swallowed nervously, cheeks and ears burning. No one had given the mage this much attention, and they weren't sure exactly what to do about it. Eventually realizing the girl was waiting on a response, and that their gaze had been glued onto the girl's hair for an indeterminable amount of time, they nodded a bit too eagerly. "Y-you're welcome t-to them." Accenting their point and attempting to remove the girl's gaze from the mage, they gestured with their left hand toward the stack of dusty books on the table, their Golden Phoenix guild mark peeking out from within their sleeve.

The red head would continue happily and patiently for the strangers response, not really in a hurry to wanna take a seat, she was willing to give them a chance to freely think and decide. It gave her a moment to unwind from the walk and assess the things around her as well. The place was rather quiet and it made for a great place for one to be able to relax and get some time out without the unnecessary bother of foot traffic and normal vehicle type. It was something a lot of people needed to learn to also enjoy, however everyone can't be taken out of whatever environment they grew up in and whom they surrounded themselves with to help with that. That was just something they would have to deal with, but for Madison and this stranger, the silence of this place and the emptiness was an exciting thing to form a friendship... Even if she had to go through the paranoia of being discovered. That, was something in it of itself a small but solvable situation. Luckily for her, the attire she wore covered her tattoo and made it unable to be seen unless she had to remove her dress- Good luck with that, boys!~

The strange persons stuttering made her giggle, sliding out a chair a small ways before seating herself inside and pulling herself toward the table. "Why thank you.. umm.. might I ask you an odd question? I don't mean to be rude of course." Nervously, she fumbled with her hands in her lap before finding the best way she thought to word the question. "What exactly.. Is your gender? I.. kind of see a cute boy or girl of you, but to be honest, I don't want to make you offended by saying the wrong one." She shy'd away to the books, picking one off of the stack and opening the cover, suddenly setting it down and giving herself an open handed whack to her forehead, though light, the facepalm was clearly heard. "Silly me, where are my manners. I'm Madison Richter. The pleasure is all mine, so don't try to take any from me!~" The red head would jokingly stick her tongue out at her acquaintance, giggling playfully.

Nova could feel their soul leaving their body. They were dead, or dying, they had to be. No way this was happening. Madison, as the auburn-haired girl sitting at the table had introduced herself, called the enby cute, and then went to deliver the final blow: a gender-related question, with the added concern of not wanting to be rude. Face burning bright red, the wiry mage fiddled with the page corner of their book, and tried to find an answer for the adorable stranger. The girl was giggly and precious, sticking out her tongue at Nova, who just wanted to cry. How was the nonbinary individual supposed to explain the one problem that they had struggled with their entire life? This was one of their biggest fears, brought up so innocently by someone so cute.
Wait. Madison called them cute as well. There's a chance that the girl would be accepting and positive, and all their fears were invalid, so why not try?
Shrugging off their anxiety, they stuttered out their response: "I-I'm non-binary actually, so I'm, uh, not a guy or a girl. I-I use 'they/them' pronouns, and my gender is... neither, I guess. My name is Nova Meteoron, a mage from Golden Phoenix." They waited for Madison's response, unwilling to meet the girl's eyes. How would she react? Would she even care?

The shy attitude that this stranger had shown before Madi was just adorable. She couldn't help the idea to slide beside them and hug them to death, even to take them home because gosh darn it were they just that adorable. They began to toy with the corner of their book, remaining silent for a moment as if something troubled them. The whole time, it felt like Madi had just stepped on the wrong toes in all of this. Perhaps that her acquaintance was just overly shy.. or maybe they were just the antisocial type, they were still fun to just be around as it stood. For her, it never mattered whom they were, but the company itself was a lot more enjoyable than being alone, so even if the two had ceased a conversation, she would stay by his side simply to keep the two of them company. Maybe the after effects of imprisonment by Harrigan made her slightly more easy to bond with strangers, but she didn't care.

A happy, giddy look slowly slipped away as the girl had listened to the person whom would name themselves as Nova. The way they made themselves out to be was rather odd and unique, but she wasn't repulsed by it. Despite what her religious teachings had shown, the exposure to life had shown that there are many more things to life that even the magic of religion could comprehend. Now they refused to look at her, probably afraid to be ridiculed and laughed at for the way they saw themselves. With a gentle smile, a hand would reach across and lay gently on top of one of Nova's. "There's no need for that look, Nova. It doesn't matter to anyone who you are so long as you yourself are comfortable with it. In my opinion, as a religious girl, I believe that if god didn't want people like yourself to be here, you wouldn't be." She would pause and slide her hand underneath theirs, gently grasping it in her own. "You know what they say, love comes in all shapes and forms. Love knows no bounds, and I feel as though there's someone out there for everyone... Like.. ma-maybe.." Her cheeks flushed pink for a moment, catching herself before she suddenly blurted out something she didn't even think about. There was something about Nova... Something making her cling and support them without the slightest hesitation, even through her normal personality. Was... It love at first sight?

No way this was happening. No way was this cute stranger, precious and sweet, not only interested in them but outright accepting of Nova right from the start? Madison's hand was on theirs, and Nova was blushing even harder, but the crushing weight of their anxiety was gone. A warm, bubbly smile painted itself on Nova's face before the enby could notice, and they bolted upright and knocked over their chair, clutching the girl's hand in their own two as though it were a lifeline. Which, to the young non-binary individual, it was. Maybe it wasn't much, maybe it was really simple, maybe gender wasn't that big of an issue. But, for Nova, it was everything, and to find someone who was so open-minded and attracted to the enby was something out of a daydream. "R-really?! You're, serious, right?" The wiry mage felt like they were about to burst with tension and excitement, was this really happening. Love at first sight, was this really possible? Of course, the pair had the entire day to gt to know each other in the most romantic place in Earthland: the Rose Garden. Going through the street-shops with Madi would actually be enjoyable; tasting unique treats and finding unique trinkets would make for a fun date. Thankfully, Nova had brought enough jewel to purchase something unique and memorable for the girl, if they abandoned the idea of buying any books. A little lost in thought, it didn't dawn on the teen that their date never expressed a profession, and that Nova had begun to refer to the girl by a nickname automatically.

Madi had to try and control herself and regain her normal composure from the burst of thoughts rushing through her mind. Of course, she'd just met this person, and all the fairy tales would point out that love at first sight was true. Hell, even the novels she'd read growing up said the same thing, but even in such a case as fiction... Was it already happening? The adorable smile that formed on Nova's face albeit made her squeak from their cute little face. It was like her presence had a little effect to brighten ones day in some manner, shape or form. What toll it took on her was always varying on the situation at hand, however that in it of itself was another problem, and one that could be dealt with easily should it need to be. For now, she just wanted to enjoy making at the very least, a new friend... Even if it meant hiding things.

Their sudden outburst caused her to look up now in a blank look, just starring with no real notion or idea of what they were so happy about. They asked her how serious the red head had been about what they said.. probably from her guess of disbelief of being accepted for what they wanted to feel accepted for being, but Madison was not one to judge. That was the lord's job, and she would just accept anything he laid upon her for doing. "W-Well... I-I.. Uh-Uhmmm-" She blushed again, her heart suddenly racing and her mind boggled trying to come up with an answer. Why was she so nervous and jumpy all of a sudden? The feeling of butterflies in her stomach was crushing her normal ability to simply speak without consequence, but right now it was increasingly difficult to do so. "A-Absolutely! E-Everyone is different in some shape or form, and it takes those with open minds and hearts to accept them, after all!" Secretly, she had to throw in about her own demons, ones she really didn't think hung on such a severity of seriousness among legal guilds... Especially in recent events.

Next to stand, a second hand would reach out and take hold of Nova's picking them both up and smiling happily. "Right! So! If you have any questions or curiosities, feel free to bring them up now, cause once we leave, I know we'll both wanna have a fun time." She paused and let go of their hands, letting the enby to collect themselves and a moment to think, while Madi teasingly fixed her hair a bit by grabbing it all up and letting it fall behind her back. "'Cause I know you starring earlier, cutie~" She would giggle and wink, just giving a light tease to them in an attempt to make their cheeks flush red. Nova was incredibly adorable when they were nervous like that!~

Nova breathed a sigh of relief. The auburn-haired girl now standing before them was completely serious, and asked if the enby had any questions. Nova was tempted to just abandon any doubt then and there. Why should anything else matter? Madi was cute and sweet, so sweet, but the green-haired mage decided to ask about her history. "So, Madi...son, what do you do for a living? Also, what do you l-like to do? I-I wanna know more about you. Nova realized that they had instinctively called the girl by a nickname, and was still holding her hands, but made no effort to let go. After all, Madi seemed okay with their actions, so all must be well. Now, Nova just wanted to get to know her better, regardless of what the girl had to hide. She was religious and accepting, so surely it couldn't be all bad.
