The small boy was running along the rooftops, the moon shining down on him, turning his dirty white hair to a bright silver. His old, badly mended clothes flapped behind him, turned a ghostly white from their dirty gray by the moonlight. The boy lept a gap between rooftops, landing roughly on the next roof. He growled aloud, frustrated by his own short legs and their inability to carry him over large gaps easily. His own fragile body was limiting to him, which was more than a little frustrating. He adjusted the thin strip of bandage that served as a headband, green eyes surveying his surroundings as he lept from the roof to the ground below.

Post by Dubhlainn 19th December 2016, 9:57 am

The night was young; all is silent in Hargeon town as civilians return to their homes to seek refuge from the cold night. A fog obstructed vision and mists of moist vapor slithered through the cobblestone roads as a result of a town that sits near the ocean. Dubhlainn had just finished his task to perform maintenance for the Hargeon Mayor and was paid with a good sum some money that can afford him much more assets that he can use in the near future. He put away the bag of jewels into his russack and lifted it up on his back as he traverses down what now appears to be streets that are abandoned, of course at this time it was supposed to be.

The veteran had no said a word and only gazed at the moonlight which was the only thing visible in the night sky as clouds attempt to hide it. He stopped to admire its view and exhaled as he remembers his past memories where he used to work simple jobs apart from being a soldier paid to kill, a soldier who was but a mere tool to the ideal innovators.

Mirai was deprived of the luxuries of nature, Earthland to him was a dream and now that Dubhlainn’s bond with his earthland master is broken, he has no ties and the only thing he had on this world is his membership with Savage Skull and an old wizard who knew him from his days that resided here.

He feigns ignorance of the upcoming assailant that leap through several tall buildings, others would mistake it such thuds as birds pecking on the old brazen wood. Hargeon has recovered but not fully, for when its structure has returned, the economy must grow tenfold to compensate for the assets lost and the expenses paid in order to restore it.

A sea monster controlled by a mistress? Perhaps there’s more to this world than meets the eye.
Dubhlainn walked down the road that would lead to the harbor, guided by the luminosity of the moon.

    Marceline Anicetus
The mortar of a building crumbled swiftly off the side, clacking lightly against the ground and bouncing a few times. Glowering, red eyes blinked ominously in the shadows of the alleyways as they watched the figure of a young boy jump from ledge to ledge. They steadily kept their gaze upon the sleek figure, disappearing and reappearing in alleys closer to the silhouette. Pale, ghastly fingers curled around the side of a building, the bricks beneath them weakening at their touch and falling away. More and more of the mortar of the building gave way to the power that emitted from the eyes that glowed like fire in the night. Nails crunched deep into the cement that produced the structure until a large chunk had broken off and crashed to the ground. Startled by the sound that would have potentially given their presence away, the eyes disappeared into the darkness.

They reappeared just behind a man that trudged longingly through the streets, a rucksack slung over his shoulder full of his wares and earnings for the day. Slowly, a black mist trickled in through the dense fog, trailing after the movements of the eyes, gathering around them. Each and every step of the eyes led to the mist reforming into a physique that was slender and apparently feminine. Quickly, the black mist let out a burst and dissipated, a long and flowing cloak and dress covering the once unclothed bodice of the figurine. Sylphlike fingers reached out toward the man in front of the woman, but pulled away fast in order to not touch him. Her eyes, the fiery essence of willowy nature, glanced up to the rooftops, finding that the boy atop them was no longer there. Dropping to the ground below, they scanned the area, waiting, watching to see where that child had suddenly gone to.

"Come out, young child," Marceline's haunting, layered voice echoed into the night air, waiting for an answer from him. "I can see you hiding in the shadows of the alleys; there's no point in keeping yourself hidden from us. Don't be afraid, I won't fight. . ."

Busted. Inaris looked at the woman who called out to him, a delicate woman to be sure. He could sense large amounts of magical energy from both the man and the woman, and was hesitant to leave the safety of the shadows. he rarely trusted the words of others, and there was no way he would be able to take both of them in a head-on fight. The child debated running, but he doubted he would be able to move fast enough to escape. What was he to do? Run, and hope they wouldn't follow? Come out, and be forced to trust somebody? His green eyes scanned the area, searching for any traps. He couldn't see any, but that didn't mean they weren't there. As an assassin, he had learned the hard way about hidden traps. The moon shone brightly down, the light reflecting in his green eyes the color of moss. He wasn't about to step out of the shadows, that was for sure. But, he wasn't going to stay silent either.

"And who are you, to tell me to leave the protection of the shadows? I have no trust for those who appear from nothing," called the child, his rough hands gripping the side of the building from around which he peeked. His tiny, unclad feet shuffled side to side as he cocked his head to one side. The child waited for a response with a look of anticipation in his green eyes, sure his wariness would anger the two.

Inaris was right to worry; in fact they would have the right instincts and kit as a citizen of the underworld which Dubhlainn had recognized. The mist that followed him, his mistress that materialized in the plane of existence seemed to have caught scent of the presence of the boy. While it’s true that the boy was able to sense a high magical power flowing within the two dark mages, only Marceline’s magic was felt while Dubhlainn’s remained inactive, almost as if he was deprived of magical power but that wasn’t the case.

The boy could not sense anything from Dubhlainn at all even if they wanted to, they can see him, hear him, smell him and that was all there is. This was probably the reason why Inaris thought that Dubhlainn could have been a potential target; he sensed nothing from him earlier.

He stopped to glance back and waited for their follower to come out. Would they really have time for this? There’s a soul in Hargeon that needs to be claimed, a candle light that’s about to go off and the two must be present once the breath of life was snuffed out or they would miss its harvest. Dubhlainn was an ideal partner for Marceline when it comes to hunting souls; after all he had possessed “The Messenger’s” powers after all. It’s not everyday someone like Dubhlainn would come around.

“You frightened him Marceline, you could have just let him come out on his own” said Dubhlainn as he turned towards the direction where the boy could have been hiding. Who was Dubhlainn to talk as he sounded a bit more intimidating than Marceline with his gruff voice? When his senses became active and that his guard has been raised, Inaris opportunity to have sneaked up upon him would have been long gone.

“She’s a memory of a long past, she cannot do harm unless fate decides that she would, you are right and that the both of us are just but mere strangers. I am not asking you to come out but I’m curious…. Why do you follow?” He asked.

He understood mercenaries and assailants all too well, after all he is one himself and lived that kind of life for several years but to think that it was a child... tells such sadder story than the Match Girl.

    Marceline Anicetus
Oh, please. If I had let him come out on his own, he wouldn’t have ever came out in the first place,” the woman argued with Dubhlainn. “Besides, for all we know, that young boy over there could be ready to stab us in the back the moment we turn our gaze from him. No doubt he would willingly stab me in the back, considering I’m one of the few magi in this world that has a bounty over their head. Perhaps he’s a Rune Knight in training; got his work cut out for him, but hey, if he brings us in, he’d probably be the hero of the Rune Knights for the rest of his life. Hell, I wouldn’t doubt it a single bit that that thought ran through his head once or twice, knowing our faces are plastered on poles everywhere in Fiore. We’re not getting out of here without a fight, Dubhlainn, I can assure that, even if it will be a rather quick fight on our end.” Her gaze remained steadily on the young child hidden in the shadows, shifting her weight slightly from one hip to the other.

In a flash, a fist would aim to land harshly against the arm of her Horseman, glaring with fiery eyes at the entity beside her. “I am not just a figment of a person’s imagination. I am a living, breathing being of this material world that you call home! Don’t just assume me to be something of the past, you ninny! Because I assure you that I am not just something that haunts your memories!” She let out an exasperated ‘humph’ after yelling at Dubhlainn for what he had said about her existence in the world. If she was just a memory of the past as he had explained to Inaris, then she would be something a person could merely walk through. Immaterial and something that wasn’t worth remembering, which was clearly something that she was not meant to be. “If I’m just a memory of the past, what the hell are you supposed to be? A thing that goes bump in the night, a figment of a child’s imagination?

Marceline brought her attention back to Inaris, planning to ignore the words of her Ace as if they meant nothing to her. “My name is Marceline Anicetus; I am that which comes for you when your time has come to its inevitable end,” she explained to him. “And you, who are you, young child, to hide in the shadows from Death and her henchman? Are you afraid of us?” Laughter filled the air, a sound that chimed like bells and echoed with a soft reverberation through the valley of buildings and streets. “What reason is there to fear us when we were merely passing through? I am not here to take your soul, not in the least bit.” The laughter faded, just a simply echo in the vicinity before it completely dissipated and was left with only silence to remain. “Please, step out of the shadows, boy, we are not here to hurt you, let along torture you in someway too devastating to speak about.

"I've had enough of this..." muttered the boy as he took one of his keys out. Chameleon, the hidden lizard. "Open, Gate of The Hidden Lizard! Chameleon!" Cried the boy. He was sick of this, and he intended to use Chameleons ability to get him out of here. A ring of shadows appeared in front of the boy, a spirit slowly coming into being in the very center of the ring. "You know what to do, Chameleon."

The spirit only grinned, but indeed knew what Inaris meant, so he lightly brushed his master's arm, and the boy slowly began turning invisible from that point. As his master turned invisible, Chameleon himself began to vanish back to his realm, now that his goal had been accomplished. As the boy turned around and tried to run, he took one last look back over his shoulder.

Tiny, But Deadly(open, social) Empty Re: Tiny, But Deadly(open, social)

Post by Dubhlainn 30th December 2016, 10:20 pm

The man's eyebrow was raised as if to question Marceline's answer. For one he cannot blame Marceline for ever fearing of being hunted by the alliance of the Legal guilds as she had made a name for herself. For her to worry about Dubhlainn and herself means a few things, either she had shown great care for the both of them by being overprotective or that it was pride related. Either way, there was a hint of fear there and whatever words Marceline spouted out next was sheer nonsense.

She was being paranoid and it annoyed the hell out of him, it wasn't like her to be like this but perhaps now she's grown aware of the consequences of her actions. Dubhlainn was under the impression that she is bipolar.

Unlike Marceline, Dubhlainn never made a name for himself and avoided as much infamy as possible, which is why he didn't earn the title as one of the coming storm, although he has every qualification to become one as he deems the title meaningless even when worn. All his errands that may involve the Rune Knights would always cause him to mask himself, his identity and any information about his magic. Not even an Archive mage can get a read on him and he gets away with it every time. Nobody knew Dubhlainn as an opponent, he was just as obscure as any other assailant.

But it was because Dubhlainn was a veteran and a freelance assassin that he had no need to fear the incoming shadow that trailed behind him even though he was unaware of it. It was at the last second that both the dark mages noticed the assailant and Marceline had to speak up first, arguing to Dubhlainn and stating the obvious about herself. Dubhlainn is worried about Marceline, if she keeps boasting about how infamous she is, she will get into more trouble.

Then again she wouldn't care that much or probably because of her air-headedness not to avoid too much exposure.

Marceline... she's just too nice that she doesn't even realize it.

"Well aren't you soft?" A reply mentioning about Marceline's worry. She probably had forgotten that Dubhlainn was an assailant himself cause if the boy were to attack Dubhlainn while his back is turned, Inaris wouldn't even continue the attack as he would drown in Dubhlainn's deadly aura of bloodlust that would eventually overwhelm the boy should he have proceeded.

Bloodlust is one of the primary assets of an assassin, they are to be used in bringing terror to their target and must surface the moment they are about to kill or if they are being attacked. Dubhlainn would have choked the boy and nearly incapacitate him if he wanted it but the reason why he choose to be ignorant is because he didn't wanted to and that he wants to see their assassination technique. Marceline wouldn't be scared of Dubhlainn if he brought it out because she knew him but if he remained a stranger to her then she too has every reason to be extremely cautious and afraid of him as well.

She can boast all she wants about him being her henchmen though that isn't always the case. That was because Dubhlainn was a reliable man with a natural sense of death, she needed his talents to seek out the dying and harvest their souls. Dubhlainn need not to give out magical power to perform his talents let alone boast his status as a mage though he doesn't consider himself one.

Perhaps the boy ran away from Dubhlainn even though he barely had spoken but to the eyes of those who would meet Dubhlainn for the first time, magic power would be absent but the aura of bloodlust that may emerge at any time would give them the impression that they would be facing a horrifying monster.

Perhaps another reason why Dubhlainn had suppressed his magical power, a silly excuse to socialize and to show no hostility if not bait them to him.

"Believe me Marceline, yoouu have a natural talent for scarring children." When the child turned invisible, Dubhlainn lost interest. They must meet with the person that is about to die in hargeon in order for Marceline to make her harvest and not waste time but that is if Marceline is willing to entertain herself Dubhlainn would just have to wait.

    Marceline Anicetus
A cold glare was shot in the direction of Dubhlainn, quite unhappy with the snarky attitude she was receiving from him. However, she bit her tongue and kept her sharp words from piercing through his skin, figuring now wasn’t the time to get in a fight. She had the ability to care when she wanted to, but if Dubhlainn only saw her as a cold and heartless creature, perhaps that’s what she should be. Spending time around Kite had allowed her to grow some sort of mortality to her undead being, though Dubhlainn seemed to overlook that. He wasn’t aware of her affairs with the legal mages, yet, so it wasn’t likely for him to pick up on the mortality that was seeping into her. Yet, she didn’t care if he did or not, it wasn’t something she was dependant on getting through his head right at this moment or ever. Dubhlainn could see her how he wanted to see her, and she wouldn’t give a damn if he thought different to what she actually was.

Pathetic,” she muttered in response to Dubhlainn, but that was all she had said, words so soft they could have been mistaken for inaudible mumbling. Her gaze retreated from his and glanced back at the shadows of the alley that hid the young boy they were after from sight. They narrowed in a contemplating manner and before anyone knew it, Marceline had shifted down into a childlike figure, with flowing blonde hair and radiant, green eyes. “Please come out and play with me!” she called, her voice resonating in the silence as more chime-like and younger than it had earlier. “I’m all alone out here and Daddy doesn’t want to play with me right now; won’t you please be my friend for a little while? I haven’t had any friends since we moved to Hargeon Town and it’s awfully hard for me to make friends with the older kids. . .” A pout could even be heard on her lips as she called out to Inaris from the shadows, hoping the childlike demeanor would befuddle him.

With no answer, but the soft mumbling of Inaris from the alleyway that couldn’t hardly be heard by either of them, she glanced toward Dubhlainn. “This kid, I want him,” she stated in her normal voice, “but I have this feeling he’s deliberately hiding from us and I don’t understand why.” Having said that, the woman sidled closer to Dubhlainn and grabbed hold of one of his hands with her tiny, child-like hand. In doing so, she cast a spell over his physique, invisible specks of Nether settling upon his eyelashes and subsequently turning his pupils silver. Doing this allowed for him to see through any invisibility that a person may have cast over themselves, up to invisibility of A-rank level. “See if he has some sort of invisibility cloak over him and if he does, he’ll have a faint, white glow around him, sort of like an aura. I’m not sure why he’s afraid of us, I can smell the scent of blood upon him, so it isn’t like he’s innocent as a legal mage is.

The boy stopped running when he saw the woman turn into a girl. Did she seriously think that would work on him? He hated women at any age, and he most certainly wasn't the type to play non-lethal games. He sighed, the invisibility already wearing off. This woman wanted to play? Fine. See how she liked Tora.

"Spirits of darkness and chaos, I command thee. Open, Gate Of The Crouching Tiger! Tora!" Called the boy, voice now loud enough to be audible. A ring of shadows appeared, and a small, adorable tiger-boy appeared within it. The spirit, upon seeing Inaris, grinned lazily. The two would have to have some fun... later. First, to see how these two liked what happened when people messed with Tora's master. The spirit was kawaii to be sure, but he was far more fierce than was given credit for.
