In clear blue water

“Gala… what are these ‘ingredients’ we are going to be looking for, exactly? I know I am probably asking a dumb question. But I am pretty clueless about where we are.”

This was just another ordinary day for the mermaid princess, well, as ordinary as it would get. She was taking on a job that was posted recently by a man that hurt his back. He cannot get the ingredients himself and so posted out a job that would require mages to go and gather ingredients for him. Aerwyna and Gala have both decided to go onto this job after agreeing that they both wanted to do a job together on the night that he stole her first kiss. An event that Aerwyna will surely remember forever.

Standing at the front door, Aerwyna remembered the advice Kinopio gave her about ‘knocking’ and knocked on the door patiently, meanwhile, she was still pondering about what ingredients the two would probably get, considering Aerwyna didn’t know half of the stuff that was edible in the human world, she knew however that Gala would probably tell her as much as possible about the ingredients.

Unfortunately, she didn’t bring Kinopio with her today for one obvious reason: his height. If Kinopio seen an ingredient he wouldn’t of been able to spot, then he would get very frustrated. Instead, he is staying at home and making sure he is getting all the nutrients he needed to be a strong and healthy toadstool.

Slowly but surely, the door opened up slightly to reveal a man. He must have been the one to have given out the job and he opened it some more to spot the couple that were standing outside his house. He seemed curious to know why they were there but he nodded as he gawked at the two some more.

“I am assuming you both are here for the job I posted, hmm? Come in, come in. It must have taken some time to get here.” The man announced as he opened up the door for the duo to enter.

“Thankyou, kind sir.” Aerwyna replied, bowing down slowly as she entered the house.

So, the man hurt his back. She thought that is how she read it, but she was worried incase she read it wrong or not. Not that it mattered, she was just glad to have some assistance with her since Kinopio wouldn’t be able to help whatsoever. Upon entering the house, the blue haired female inspected the homeware before she looked to the elderly man once more and now she had to get down to business. The man offered Aerwyna and Gala some rather large baskets to gather the ingredients in. This made the mermaid princess very excited, manual labour was so much more fun than sticking in a castle all day getting bored.

“So, kind of like how my blood made the celery a hazard, poison makes food a hazard too??” Aerwyna asked as she tilted her head. She was really curious now, but at least her curious mind was getting fed with desirable answers. Gala was a really good cook and a good cooking teacher, so Aerwyna was really lucky to have Gala in the first place to assist her with all their cooking needs.

Taking both of the baskets, Aerwyna’s legs gave way slightly and Aerwyna almost fell over due to her legs still being slightly weaker than most humans. Luckily she held onto the nearby table to keep her balance nice and steady. After the little incident she walked over to Gala and gave him one of the baskets. “We will go find some decent ingredients now.” Aerwyna announced. “Please, leave it all to us and just relax.” Looking back at the door, Aerwyna bowed down slowly once more before looking to Gala and grinned “We should go. I am very intrigued to learn about these ingredients!”

Aerwyna wondered what the food will look like, maybe she could even taste some to learn about what makes them delicious. Hopefully she doesn’t taste any that may actually be poisonous. But then again, she would probably find out immediately.

Walking outside with Gala, it was time to put her sense of smell to work! As a mermaid that was a dragon slayer at the same time, she had her nose attuned to everything that was around her although she never really bothered to even want to use it fully. Unfortunately it might not be so useful here as she didn’t know what was poisonous and what wasn’t poisonous but at least she knows there's a lot of food here the two could pick up.

It didn’t take long until the tanuki motioned the mermaid princess to follow him. She wondered what he had smelt?! She hoped it better not be so poisonous. Soon, the two encountered what Gala called smashrooms. She never heard of such a weird type of mushroom before, but Gala seemed to to take control with ease. This made the mermaid princess slightly jealous due to her background, but knows that she cannot act upon that jealousy as the man might get quite overwhelmed. Soon, he placed the smashrooms into the princess’s basket and she tilted her head before her face turned red while she was just looking at him.

Soon, Gala noticed mushroses, a very pretty type of mushroom she had to admit. Gala quickly placed those into her basket before she was queried on whether she was having some fun or not. “Yes, Gala! I am having lots of fun being out here! Especially since I am with you!”

Looking up, Aerwyna spotted some apples and she grinned as she pointed upwards. “Look! Look!” She exclaimed in an attempt to catch the attention of the tanuki. It revealed that she was pointing to a tree and she plopped her basket down before hugging the tree and shaking it wildly. The pure sound of birds tweeting and the breath of the mermaid princess was soon replaced by screams as the apples fell onto the floor. Aerwyna had to stop quickly before she kneeled onto the floor and picked up an apple… to reveal a face.

Aerwyna hasn’t laughed so hard before after experiencing pure shock, the face was hilarious. She never knew apples could have such hilarious faces before. This made the female regret nothing at all when it came to shaking that particular tree.

Aerwyna was having even more fun, especially when Gala tasted the apple to tell her the levels of the apple. The mermaid princess couldn’t help but look to Gala’s apple and then took out her hand. “May I??” She asked calmly before she took the apple from his hand to taste a bit of it herself. It tasted really nice! She was quite surprised at it’s taste and even she quite enjoyed what attacked her tastebuds. More mermaids should probably taste this! It was really tasty!

Soon, Aerwyna’s attention turned to the tanuki picking up the apples and the female got stuck in, helping him picking up the apples to place into the baskets. That was when she noticed what Gala was looking at some strange things in another tree, he explained that they were known as nitro cherries.

“Nitro… cherries… right!” Aerwyna grinned as she bit her lower lip. She was glad to be learning about more ingredients. Soon, Gala asked about going near the cliff and underwater. This made Aerwyna shrivel up a bit… she would have to show off her mermaid form… only Gala and a few others have seen her mermaid form before and she would prefer if the rest of the world didn’t see such a form. Although she was sure that Gala would be the only one to see her, she was pretty sure that she didn’t want to take off her clothes while he was watching. Although… it would get him embarrassed… nah, she wasn’t that bad, she did have some standards.

“If I am going to go underwater, I would like for you to turn away from me when I am taking off my clothing. Is that understood??” She asked with a soft expression to her face, giggling happily as she placed a finger on her lips. She seemed to be cheerful still, despite feeling under some sort of pressure.

When Aerwyna and Gala managed to reach the water, the female then told Gala to turn around so she could get undressed. She didn’t want to have all of her clothes wet whatsoever, but maybe she should tease Gala?? Nah, she wasn’t that bad, they both had standards that neither should exactly cross. All she had to do was go into the water and find some ingredients. This will be easier than what it should be, Aerwyna is a PRO when it comes to underwater ingredients. Mermaids don’t eat kelp all the time.

Aerwyna finally had her clothes off and they are at the side. Aerwyna bit her lower lip as she turned so that she would land on her back, she giggled and chuckled as she then inhaled and exhaled. “You can look now, Gala.” She announced. That was when she fell backwards into the water ever so gracefully, making her exit with a little wave to him. She was going to find some ingredients now, however, it seemed that there wasn’t any ingredients from what she could already see. All Aerwyna could do was swim around like an actual fish, there was nothing from what she could actually see.

That was, until she spotted it! She seen what was known to mermaids as lily oysters! They can be extra delicious to the mermaid and are often delicacies pertaining to the royals, although she doesn’t know how often land people use the oysters for their own gain. She swam down to reach the oysters and picked up as many as she possibly could before she swam up to the surface. “Gala!” She exclaimed. “Here! Lily oysters! A mermaids delicacy!” She announced as she placed all the oysters on the edge of the surface. She was happy that she was able to bring up some ingredients from under the sea.

Aerwyna smiled softly at the man's compliment before Gala warned her about an ingredient that wasn’t particularly easy to obtain. While Aerwyna understood that some would be difficult to obtain anyway, the female looked concerned when he simply looked at a cave to see what was there… it didn’t look like such of a good idea to enter there in the first place and of course she was worried. The mermaid princess simply shook her head as she sat down on the edge of the water. “We better avoid it then. I would prefer if we didn’t charge into battle while we are unprepared. Plus there is much easier ways to collect ingredients, surely.” She reminded him as she smiled softly at him. “Anyways. I need… to get dried…” She remembered that night when she had to get dried, the last time when she was at Gala’s house for the night was very memorable, but it was certainly something that has probably made her realise how quick you can fall for someone.

Sighing softly, she shook her head. She hated this part of the process. If she stayed in her mermaid form, then she wouldn’t be able to walk. She was happy to have a human form, but this was just a long complicated process of switching from her scales to actual human skin. There was something she could do however, she managed to point out at some sort of brush, the brush seemed to be not too far from the two and there seemed to be some sort of tomatoes on it.

“What are those?? Are they poisonous??” Aerwyna asked as she pointed at the beaming red tomatoes that were blowing in the wind, Aerwyna then spotted that her scales were going back to human skin. Oh no, she hoped he went to check on them tomatoes soon!

Aerwyna was starting to panic now as the scuttling got louder and louder. She could hear it louder than most due to the fact that she was a dragon slayer. A water dragon slayer at that. Of course Aerwyna hasn’t told Gala that yet, even if he was suspicious or not. She would probably have to tell him some day because of the changes that dragon slayers tend to receive due to the complications she would get since she was a mermaid as well… which was pretty darn weird to begin with regardless. Nonetheless, she was probably prepared to tell him afterwards.

Aerwyna seemed to be changing pretty quickly and then Gala couldn’t help but apologise as he was then whacked by a crab. She had no time to do anything, she had to get changed back into her normal clothes, she was glad she had only her underwear on otherwise Gala would be blushing like a madman right now. “Ah, yes! I hope them red things are tasty for the man, it will be the least we can do for his back after all.” Standing up, Aerwyna rushed off to her clothes and placed them on in the correct manner “I mean, if we went to, we could possibly also cook for him! That is just a suggestion though.” Meanwhile, Aerwyna was completely oblivious as to what was happening to Gala, but just in time, what seemed to be a crab quickly turned from alive to cooked! Aerwyna smelt the meat that the crab was providing too, it truly was cooked.

“What was that??” Aerwyna asked as she turned around to see the remnants of what happened. Her mouth gaped wide open like she was catching flies… She was oblivious to what happened and Gala is now hurt?! Oh no… she probably could have helped him! “Oh no!” Aerwyna reacted as she ran over to Gala to see the aftereffects of the situation “Are you okay??” She asked as she started to feel really bad… what could she do to help??
