Bait, Lures, and Science! Empty Bait, Lures, and Science!

Post by Guest 19th September 2016, 4:39 pm

Job Title: Bait, Lures, and Science!
    Rank: B
Player Requirements: All involved must have finished part 2 of the job series. At least one B rank member must be present for the job, max of 5 mages. Minimum 25 posts total of 300 words each.
Job Requirements: Save the underground settlement from whatever is attacking them, bring back a sample of the creatures there for scientists that can not survive the fighting so can not come along.
    Job Location: Calm Sea
Job Description: An underwater settlement has issued a cry of help! Their first layer of security and protection has been breached by some kind of strange underwater creatures and they are slowly being driven back and killed while trying to get the civilian population out. They have issued a cry for help from those with an interest in the situation, and that means you. While at it, be sure to grab a sample of anything strange you might see.
    Enemies:
    Weak:
Something?: You're not sure what kind of animal it is, but it is most definitely not normal. It resembles a shark, but much smaller, and has two tentacles on either side of its body that can latch on and hold things; or bring them to its mouth if they move away.
It deals a B rank of spell damage with a bite and takes 3 B rank hits of spell damage to take down.

    Normal:
Something Bigger? A much larger version of the weak enemy. This one is slightly larger than the normal great white shark, even more aggresive. Deals 1 A rank of spell damage in a bite, and takes 5 B rank hits of spell damage to eliminate.

    Strong:
A Whale?: What you think is the sound of a whale call echoes in the distance, the sound stunning anyone with a heightened sense of hearing for a few moments. What you see soming your way is most definitely not a whale, but is the right size to be one. A mix of a whale, a shark, and something with tentacles, this beast is a force to be reckoned with. A single bite is your end, the mouth being rows upon rows of impossible large teeth, and the beast will use it's size and body full of tentacles to try and drag you into its mouth. The creature can only be rolled once, and is impossible for the group to kill or capture. Its body is immune to ALL damage, no matter what the mages in question bring, and only the tentacles can be injured. Each of the twenty tentacles takes a B rank of spell damage to take out, and once all of them are destroyed the creature will release another stunning whale call before swimming away.

    Boss:
Horror of the Deep: There is only one word to describe this creature; Terror. Its form seems to change to whatever it wants to do. Body, fins, tentacles, teeth, it can transform them at will to anything used in the water. However, it is always obviously an aquatic being. (No humanoid looking things; humans, mermaids, etc.)

The beast deals an A rank of spell damage with every attack it lets loose, some attacks using ranged underwater spines resembling teeth or sometimes acidic ink, and will do its best to counter everything thrown at it. It will evolve its body to resist elements on contact, including multiple elements at the same time, so that an elemental hit can only hurt it once. Fortunately the body can not do the same for non-elemental or physical attacks, though these only deal half damage to the Horror of the deep.

It takes 40 A ranks worth of spell damage to cause enough damage to the creature to kill it, where it will explode violently into a burst of tentacles that the party can grab for samples for any curious scientists, and a special item.

    Reward:
    15k jewels
A horrific tentacle: This tentacle is a special item, taking up no slots of the mages that finish the job, that allows those that can not breathe under water to place it in their mouths and be able to do so. It leaves a vile taste after being taken out, but also heals them 10 flat hp per turn so long as the leave it in. Even those that breath under water are able to be affected by the healing. The healing only applies when fully submerged in water.
