Sercee ran and ran as if her life depended on it. And it did. Every so often the girl would whip around and see the rotted creatures still hot on her tail. The girl almost tumbled as she clutched her dirty chest, her insides ached due to her continuous running and never stopping. If she didn't take a break soon she would probably pass out, or worse. Taking a swift left turn she spotted a wooden platform which was connected to a rather shaky looking beam, Sercee weighed up her options as the otherworldly snarls and yelps grew louder.
The boy inched closer to the fire as he rubbed his outstretched hands in order to get warm. Turning around with what seemed like inhuman speed the boy tore away from his only source of hear and gripped his bludgeon, staring off into the darkened area he awaited whatever being made the scarping sound that made him jump up. Nothing. Only the noise of the flickering flames to keep him company, he had been on high alert after the attacks back on the surface above which forced many of the world's inhabitants to go below ground, for their safety of course. If anyone were to go back to ground level all they would come to face would be the derelict and barren wasteland of what used to be. The boy was stopped short of his isolated peace by a deafening scream, looking into the open cave mouth a few thirty metres ahead he pondered.
Sercee had made her choice with mere seconds to lose, running onto the platform she pushed herself off of the edge and landed on the beam. Just. Feeling the beam begin to buckle under he weight she gasped and sped to the other platform. The beam broke in an instant and pulled Sercee down into the shadowy depths many feet below, as if on impulse she jumped on the space near the platform, a jagged rock face with only space for her hands. The endangering experience had forced her to scream out with her few breaths as her heart still pounded in dire need of a rest. A few seconds had passed on which had made her stop the desperate calls for help in fear of death knocking at her door, yet she herself began to feel her body's effects and was slowly but surely entering her slumber. The girl's hands slipped off of the rocky gaps and flailed about in front of her body. Hundreds of stalagmites would have impaled her if not for the boy, the boy whose school had been attacked by the decayed creatures, the boy whose parents and sister were turned into the vile creatures. The boy whose flame still flickered.
Sercee awoke to a hot, burning sensation on her facial area. Opening her ocean blue eyes she screamed noticing the flames dancing in front of her, as she backed away on her hands and knees a hand grasped her shoulder. Whizzing around to face the owner she took in the boy's dark skin and oak brown eyes as well as his torn uniform. "My name's Chase. We don't have much time, I can hear the devil's creations coming" He said in a whisper yet still she had a confused look on her face. Chase grunted. "Are you forgetting where we are? Let's get moving!" He yelled rushing off into the lit cavern he had been occupying. Sercee looked back at the open cave mouth and arose, dusting herself off she ran off to Chase, perhaps she thought she could escape the hellhole.
But little did she known, there's always demons on the other side.
