Everyone was getting their passport these days. And when Siennah thought ‘everyone’ she really meant everyone. The family in front of her in line was getting a pair for the family dogs in addition to the rest of their group. Their dogs. Was that covered under the law? Did the embassies have to be notified about foreign dogs these days?

Really, the wizard would have preferred to have taken this particular day to herself in her apartment—or at least her apartment hunting. She could only stay in hotels and the Guild Dormitory for so long. It was completely overcast, grey clouds thick and unending over the entire sky. At least that meant that the sun wouldn’t bother anyone in the line too much. The summer had been hot enough lately that even Siennah would sweat through her dress in a matter of minutes after leaving anywhere with climate control.

So fall’s arrival was not unwelcome.

Still, the line was at least one hundred long, winding back and forth like a crowded snake. The building also smelled like sweat. And people. Yes. This would have been better to take care of in the fall. But, the wizard didn’t have much of a choice. As soon as Siennah got back into the Guild Hall, she was sent right back out the door again—this time to get her passport. It was standard, someone told her before running out the door on their own job. Since Fiore’s borders were open, there was a bit of a scramble for each of the Legal Guilds to make their reputation abroad as well as domestically. Thus, everyone, even the D-Ranking nobodies had to get their paperwork in order.

Siennah pulled out her personal planner and went through the relevant forms she had paper-clipped to the day’s date. Yes, everything looked in order. She had even kept an extra copy of the blank documents in the next tab over-just in case. It seemed like every other person in line slunk off after reaching the front—blank forms in hand as they headed to the tables available at the other end of the inspection area.

Both the family in front of her and the couple in back kept grumbling about how slow the line was. On hour two of the wait, Siennah pulled out her planner again, flipping to her emergency crossword puzzles and Sudoku puzzles in the back tab. She skimmed through the clues on her first crossword, occasionally brushing her lips with the end of her quill’s feather.

She’d gone through two before finally reaching the front desk. The dead-eyed woman sitting behind it took Siennah’s paperwork and flicked her eyes back and forth so quick that it didn't even seem like she was reading everything. Then she inspected Siennah’s guild mark and that was it. One photograph later, and it was done. One little booklet that fit into Siennah’s planner and everything. That was it. It was almost…underwhelming in comparison to the wait she went through.

Well. At least that piece of business was done with.
