Margaret marvelled the sights of Motor City on her way to the client. It was amazing how people could combine technology and magic. It was like witnessing an art form in motion as a fancy magical car sped down the road with speed and grace. But marvelling the sights the city had to offer was not the reason why she was in Motor City in the first place. And as much as she’d like to have a ride like one of those she couldn’t afford it, she didn’t know how to use it, and she could fly so she didn’t need one. Shaking the thoughts of owning a luxurious ride aside she finally reached her destination.
She looked at the shop’s signage, signifying it as Sen ‘s Small Small Parts Shop. She entered the door, the chiming of small shiny parts dangling from wires and making contact with each other signifying her arrival. “A—uhmmm…Hello?” She greeted the seemingly empty shop. She took a few steps into the shop before the door behind the counter creaked open and an average looking man stepped out. “Hello! I’m Margaret from Pharaoh’s Call, I’ll be the one taking your request.” She introduced herself.
The young man smiled. “Finally.” He said. “I was worried no one would take me seriously. I’m Sen.” Margaret sat down on an empty chair. “According to your request…” She started as she searched and brought out a piece of paper from her pack. “You’re curious about what these toy soldiers are doing?” She asked, prompting a nod from the man. “Yes, I’ve been seeing them in the shadows carrying small things around like screws, strings, pieces of things, and the like. I don’t want them harmed, no, I just want to know what they’re doing.”
Margaret gave a small smile. “Well sir, you got the right mage for the job here! I’ll find out what these little soldiers are up to! You can count on me!” She said with a smile before taking a quick bow and leaving the shop. Outside, far enough from the shop she began her search for the elusive toy soldiers. They could be anywhere on the ground, from the insides of trash bins to a shelter inside an abandoned shoe. She kept a keen eye out, ready to spot an elusive toy soldier to tail. Funnily enough, not even five minutes had passed before she spotted one soldier, peeking out from behind the trash can and carrying a little spring in its arms.
Before she could even blink the soldier scurried off into the distance. Margaret, reacting quickly, followed the toy to the best of her ability until the soldier jumped down into the sewers. She looked around quickly and found a manhole just close enough for her to use. Using all her might, she pried the cover off and peered down into the dark stinky depths. With a determined expression on her face, she descended down the ladder, not knowing of what she’ll find in the sewers of Motor City.
