The Unknown Lands; a place that could only be described as being hell on earth. Holding such a resemblance to what was the demonic plane there was little separating this land from Hell. The lava spouts, incredible heat, unholy creatures, and not to forget the barren landscape. The only thing that rose on this landscape were the occasional castle like buildings; yes, these were the homes to the strongest of the demons present; to the Seven Princes of Hell; Lucifer, Beelzebub, Sathanus, Abaddon, Mammon, Belphegor, and Asmodeus. Each of these demons used their sin to tempt humanity, attaining their downfall. Each failed. Each of these sinners were thrown to hell, though their presence was felt here; the replica of hell. What has been classified as sin by many is also revered by a select few; seeing these people not as sinners, but as those that know true liberty, true freedom. This was the world that created this Hellish landscape; the Unknown Lands. This is the setting that Vlad has traveled so far to see, so far to research. So far to die.

Vlad let out a slight sigh, it was absurdly hot and while he attempted to prepare for this it seemed that was impossible. "Why is it so fucking hot? I know this place is supposed to be akin to the demonic plane, but this is still our planet! I don't understand this. Unless we have been brought back in time to a prehistoric version of the planet. Which doesn't seem to be the case! Have mercy, let the heat wane. Grant us a breeze!" He exclaimed, clearly annoyed by the excessive heat this place offered. He was not being paid for this adventure, it was one that he took in order to broaden his horizons and gain some useful information. It seemed he was going to regret this almost immediately.

Having only just entered the Unknown Lands there were a few things that became very apparent; there was no sign of human life. Anywhere. Well, that was fine. Who needed to be bothered by the pleasantries that were expected when you traveled in a group, or ran into a village. This was much more simple, much easier on him.

Where am I headed? I merely have some general, and sketchy, information on this place... Well, I do suppose it takes a person who is willing to risk it all to achieve their goal. Eh, it will happen, I just know it. Vlad was unsure of what, exactly, he was going to achieve through this journey, but he felt it would be important for him. For those he planned to effect.

There were seven possibilities in front of him; each of these lead to the castle of a prince. Each prince, those who reigned over each sin, would be the most important part of this whole ordeal.

    Several hours later...

"Oi, are we almost there? How long has it been!? For fucks sake, it feels like an eternity! This heat is too much to bear, or is it just me?" Vlad complained, still walking beside Azriel. Taking a sip from his canteen he looked around; he had not been paying much attention, as he had simply been lost in thought. Shit, they were getting very close to one of the castles. Sweet! Is all he thought as he prodded Azriel to pick up the pace. Yes, it was about time he had found this damned place! Who would want to travel for hours, or even days, without finding their destination!? No one that he could think of.

Their steps halted as the were denied entry to this humble abode by a damned gate. "Well, how to enter..." Vlad thought aloud, though Azriel simply knocked on the door. "Do you really think a Prince of Hell would..." As he said this the door began to move, lifting from its confines and granted the two entry. Vlad simply looked between the door and Azriel... "Do you know people? Who are you, exactly..." He sighed, taking a step forward, entering the courtyard. As they approached the center of the court Vlad finally decided to speak. "No one home?" He sighed.

The courtyard, which was easily the size of two football fields was empty, not a single person, nor soul, walked the property. This had many walkways, all of which led to different locations. The most noticeable of these that which led to the main building; the castle. The stairway was constructed of a simple brick, nothing overly ornate, and simply rose to yet another doorway. The gunmetal gray of the door seemed to contrast the red of the locale in an interesting way. Well, he had not chosen the decor. What was the point of having such a large court, without those to fill it? Just as he thought this the entrance to the castle would swing open, granting the two a look into what lay ahead. This was the same moment, however, that Vlad collapsed. It seemed he had over exerted himself in this land, and could no longer deal with it.

His body overheated, and his body low on water, it seemed to be the end for Vlad; he had no real way to save himself, nor could Azriel; it seemed to all be over in this one instance. As his consciousness faded to black he would get a glimpse at the man, or so he would assume, who had opened the door. Having his vision blurred all he was able to see was a figure approach the two.

He could feel himself floating out of his body. So this is what death feels like, Eh? He thought to himself, though this feeling soon ceased. An intense pressure would overtake the male, he would feel himself being pulled down; he could no resist this pressure. Being dragged down, he had no choice but to accept his destination.

Where am I? What's going on? These are the thoughts Vlad had as he sat up, rubbing his head. Wait, something was different, but what was it? Rubbing his eyes he would look around, it was rather clear now. He was laying beside a river... So, I really did die? What the fuck? Frankly, he was annoyed, but he could not do much about it. A person had to know when to accept their fate.

After a few moments of sitting there, processing his situation, something became clear; there were not many others in the vicinity. He had expectations that there would be an abundance of those who could not pay the fare, of those who were not buried. It appeared that he was mistaken. Letting out a slight sigh an annoyed expression overtook his face. I suppose I should attempt to find a way back to my body... He thought to himself. Now, standing on the same position he had awakened, he would stretch out; he felt as though he had not moved for years. His muscles a bit tense, stifling his motions.

Leaning forward he stretched his hamstring, touching the ground for a few moments he rose. Twisting his upper body he was feeling a bit more limber, as though he could move a bit more fluently. "Oil, Azriel!" He called, but to no avail. It seemed that he was unable to communicate with the man. Azriel? He would attempt to make use of his telepathic link, to no avail. He was alone in this desolate land, not a single soul in vision. This was an odd experience, as there was always a soul- even if it was a weak being. Vlad simply shrugged, he had no explanation and could not let this get to him; he needed to remain focused, to remain calm. He needed to form some type of gameplan, something that would give him a goal. Well, the first of said goals was to find another soul; he couldn't do much without the ability to ask questions pertaining to his situation; without being able to bounce his ideas off of others... "Shit." He sighed, beginning to walk forward.

While he could not see any other soul nearby, he could feel the energy; this was something that was omnipresent. Something that never faded, so long as there were souls. A souls energy. This is what he felt. This energy was something he was quite familiar with, something he had learned to control, though not too well. The source of this energy was actually quite simple; nothing on this planet is free, not even life. A soul, while being what makes each living being individual, is also a batter. No, perhaps a power cord is a better analogy; this power cord is what connected the vessel to the energy of the cosmos. Without something like this a person could not exist; this was the essence of life. This is merely what powered the soul, not the soul itself. The soul was something that he would.become much more accustomed to.

Walking along the river he began to see something; a flickering image of souls. This is what caught his attention; the flickering images. The hundreds, no thousands, of souls that he could not see clearly; why was that? Why could he not visualize a concrete form for these beings? Why were they so sloppy, so fickle. It was the fickle nature of these souls that became annoying; Vlad was angry that he could not get a concrete idea for who each of these souls were. For what their appearance was when they last walked in the living world.

Vlad, however, figured this would soon change; he was sure that he would, eventually, be able to obtain a concrete grasp of what their appearance was. He had enough time now to simply master this; the soul was something he felt he could play with a bit more freely. He knew there had to be more he could learn, and he knew where he would have to go.

Walking down this river he simply looked about; the souls of the departed, albeit foggy, where traveling the same path as he was. There was no paved road, nor was there any signs. It was merely a feeling he had. He felt himself being pulled in this direction; he felt the need to arrive at this destination. Perhaps he would be able to learn what he truly wanted there.

It felt like an eternity, as though he was walking in an infinite loop. This would, more than likely, become his future. He had no way to pay the toll, nor was his body buried. "Well, I suppose this will keep be active..." He chuckled, though he found no humor in it. This would be a bleak existence; he would be damned.

A bleak existence? Perhaps that was too much, this should only last one hundred years, or so they say. One hundred years? That was a drop in the bucket compared to how long this universe has existed this far, how much longer it would exist for. These hundred years would, surely, be like a memory; forever fleeting. This moment would be nothing more than a second in the totality of his existence. Was this some forms of enlightenment, no. It was merely the logic he would apply to this situation; these was no need for anything else. Everything else held no place amongst the dead.

There were a few theories that passed through his mind, a few more fleeting thoughts. These would allow for him to spend many moments in thought, that was all he could do. Think. The soul, something he now found the muse to learn about. This muse would surely be what would allow for his continued efforts; his continued tutelage, even among the the dead. Tutelage may not be the most practical of words, he had no teacher. No guidance in this endeavour.

Vladimir would continue his journey for what would feel like an eternity. All that kept him occupied during this endless March would be his thoughts; the muse he had found for the workings of a soul is what drove him; he could, more than likely, put this to use at some point. The exact way to use a soul; how one should go about touching it, morphing it, moving it, and even controlling it. These things, though Vladimir had no concrete way to substantively prove that his ideas would work, he did believe  they would be efficient. This realm was one that held a plethora of mysteries for those who dared tread these grounds; Vladimir, being the man he was, found the Achilles myth to be most fascinating and wished to test it. Entering the River Styx, granting one a body that could not be harmed; it was something he thought would be very interesting. However, he had not body to test this with. What a pity.

Nothing. He did not have any hope of an escape, or so he believed. As his moral waned he felt a pressence; it came out of no where. This was one that was of a grandiose size, not something one would see often. Something of this scale was seen a few times, if they were lucky, in a lifetime. This was the presence of the rivers keep; of the one who was responsible for transporting the dead; the pressence of Charon himself. He was shocked, he had felt nothing until this very moment. It was something he thought would be omnipresent. Something that was so finely interleaved into this dimension it was always around. This, while being a shock to clad, would not keep him awestruck for very long. He was someone who could adapt rather quickly; he was, however, excited by this new force.

A new sense of purpose overcame Vlad, he could feel something, the same something he felt as he traveled on his way to the castle. Something was bound to happen. Something big. Something that would make things very interesting. Taking off into a sprint Vladimir would continue forward, heading closers and closers to the source of this presence; as he did this it became heavier and heavier. The appearance of each soul could clearly be seen, and each of their desires felt. Running, passing through the souls of others, he would quickly approach the location; at first glance it was nothing more than an old dock. Having room to fit a single canoe it seemed to be rather frugal. Slowing down, Vlad would now stand in front of the dock. As he slowed to a stop the image of the ferry man, Charon, came into view.

He began a slow saunter over to the canoe, he didn't wish to stand out much; this, however, would fail. It seemed the ferry man was a very keen man and quickly realized who he was. Although Vlad was not very important, in the grand scheme of things and the history of the universe, he had been decimating souls recently. As Vlad approached the canoe it became more and more apparent that he would not be able to simply step aboard, something would happen. Something always happened, complicated things.

As he stepped forward, now no more than a meter away from the ominous figure, it's hand would drop, blocking his path. Shaking his head, the figure would point Vlad back to the shore. As the hand extended Vladimir could feel the intense pressure of the being, increasing larger and larger. It was as though it had no end; no limiter. Something that could break the dimension.

Taking a step back Vlad was flabbergasted, he could not comprehend how a being so powerful was able to merely exist as a middleman. It did not make any sense to him. He had no choice but to submit to the request; no, this was not a request. This was a demand. Turning around, Vlad would simply walk back the way he came, back onto land. Looking off to the man, he would see a soul board the ferry. Casting off, it seemed the being took its time with its journey.

"Well, now what?" He let out a slight sigh, though his eyes never left the canoe; he had noticed some strange changes in the atmosphere as the being conducted it's business; he was imparting his own will on the beings around him. Could this be how he was able to command the souls of these people as they boarded his canoe? Was this why they obeyed his orders, why Vladimir felt as though he was being pulled toward him? Vladimir was a curious person, and decided what the hell!? He had nothing better to do anyway.

"Well, let's do this!" He chuckled, sitting down in front of the dock; the beings presence was still present, still overbearing. Rubbing the back of his neck he had decided! "Well, if there's nothing else to do... What's the harm in conducting an experiment! Hypothesis: It is possible to manipulate the souls of others through the simple projection of one's will! Experiment one!" He exclaimed, closing his eyes for a few seconds. He had chosen one soul from the many in sight, and simply made a decision; he wanted to halt it's motion, confine it to that one spot.

Opening his eyes, he would concentrate on the soul, thinking to himself. Stop, stop, stop, halt for fucks sake! It was a complete and utter failure; the soul did, however, turn and look at Vladimir.

"Why is this guy staring at me, it's making me uncomfortable...." Is all the soul thought to itself.

"Experiment one: Failure. It seems the mere process of concentrating on the desired target, and thinking of the command is not the appropriate manner in which to channel this magic... Experiment two!" He seemed more fired up then ever; even a failure offered some data that could help with finding the correct answer.

Perhaps it was not completely based around the target; the being that ferried the other souls seemed to impart his demands on the entire dimension; it did as he pleased. Perhaps this was a magic that focused more on the caster than on the target. That was an idea that seemed to entertain Vladimir. It would make this magic a more dominating one; something that bent the wills of others to his own agenda. This would, surely, be a convenient magic.

This convenience, however, would not come easily. It would be something that he would be forced to earn, to stride for. Yes, even if he had a vague idea as to what he should be doing that would not be enough. His first magic, one which he found to be very useful and powerful, was something he had to work hard on; he was by no means a master, but he did try his best.
