Extraction. That was what this job called for. A simple, clean extraction of goods. The goods in this case were alive of course, and generally not wanting to be extracted, but that was why John was hired. If this was simply going in and picking up a nobleman to go somewhere of his own volition, his help would be entirely unnecessary. The reason behind the extraction was rather simple really: money. That is, some dark guild requested help in kidnapping a nobleman for ransom, and promised a cut of the money to be made from it. It seemed that they were rather shorthanded with this, and had gone outside of the guild for help. Perhaps they were trying to commit a series of heists and crimes all over due to the recent privatizing of the military and the small amount of disorganization it had caused. Hiring him was a small investment in order to capitalize on the generally reduced security nationwide as the transition was made. An investment that they both stood to gain from, and this noble stood to lose from.

The mansion he was to hit was in the middle of a rather nice neighborhood consisting of multiple mansions, all fairly close to each other. Granted they still had a sizeable lawn and gardens. He was given information that there would be a neighboring mansion that would be unguarded, at least on the outside, allowing him to gain entry to the yard of the target's from there. It was a rather simple matter gaining access to the unguarded lawn, which he slunk across utilizing the cover of bushes, hedges, and trees to reach the fence separating it from the lawn of the target's mansion. It was around 12 feet in height. Getting a run up, John jumped. A boot hit the brick wall and managed to gain a minor amount of traction on it, giving him just enough to push himself high enough to reach the top of the wall and grab hold. He pulled himself up enough to peek over the edge of the wall. Seeing no one, he climbed up and over, landing like a cat on the other side. With the cover of night, he didn't even need to activate his camouflage, even if there were others watching.

This yard was more scarce than the last, but there was still some cover. Moving over to a small shrubbery, John crouched down. The night vision he had from his various implants would give him an edge over anyone who may be guarding the house. Being able to pick up their heat signatures would only improve this as a normal person would show up bright red in his vision, and one such person did. A guard who hadn't seen him yet. He appeared to be carrying a shield, and held a sword at his side. He was coming somewhat close, though still around 15 meters away. Well in range. With a mental command, a small tube extended out from the side of John's mechanical arm, starting near the base of the mechanical portion and running parallel along it up to his wrist. He raised his arm and aimed it at the guard, an HUD overlay of where the launcher was aimed and the projected path of the dart appeared in his vision. He took a second to take aim with it, then, with another mental command, and the small puff of pressurized air, the dart flew, soaring through the air to hit the guard in the chest, easily slipping past his chainmail armor. The man let out a small grunt of surprise and staggered for a step or two before collapsing onto the ground, unconscious.

With one guard out of the way, John made his way to the back door of the house, picking the lock in a matter of seconds and letting himself inside.

With the door unlocked, John slipped into the house stealthily, and quietly shut the door behind him. So far, so good. He didn't see anyone in his immediate vicinity, allowing him to take a moment to get his bearings, figuring out just where he was, and where he would need to go. It looked like this door had taken him in near the kitchen. He knew that the noble would likely be asleep upstairs in his bedroom. In order to reach him, he would have to find the stairs. Yes, he could have tried to climb up the house and enter through a window, but getting in through that method would have been louder and more easily noticed, plus, he probably would have a difficult time getting the target out of the house through a window. Going through the ground floor and up would allow him to find an escape route for getting out of the house. He could try to use his Fulton device, but that wasn't entirely stealthy, and may attract some unwanted attention. Besides, those devices were expensive and he'd prefer not to have to use them on a low paying job like this, so that left the option of starting on the ground floor and working his way up.

Stepping along in the darkened house, John entered the kitchen. Inside was one of the night butlers, preparing some food for someone. Who? John could only guess. It could be himself, another worker, the target, or a guard. Either way, it didn't matter. This man was a threat to the mission, and as such needed to be taken out of the picture. Noiselessly approaching the man, John was soon nary a foot away from him, standing behind the man's back. With the speed of a cobra, he struck, reaching around and grabbing the man, applying a blood choke with his arm while also unleashing an electrical shock against him. Between the two, the man was out cold in seconds. With the administration of a small cocktail of drugs to his unconscious victim, John assured he would be asleep for a good long time. There was no need to kill these people... yet. Should things go to hell, then he may go lethal, but until now, killing them would only bring more attention to him in the long run, attention he certainly did not need.

With the butler limp on the floor, John looked around quickly for a place to stash the unconscious fellow. Finding a closet with enough space, John dragged the body over to it. Lifting up the unconscious man, he placed him in the closet, making sure he would stay in place, before closing the door.

Sweet dreams. John thought to himself as he finished hiding away his second victim. Hopefully whoever was going to be receiving that food wasn't expecting it any time soon.

With one butler out of the way, John moved through the kitchen, coming to a hallway at the other side. He peeked through the doorway, spotting a maid sweeping the floor in front of the stairs. She seemed a bit distracted, so John took the opportunity to cross the hallway into another room. He didn't want to try to take her out in such an open area. This room seemed secluded enough though. No other doors to any other hallways, so no one would be passing through. There was a convenient little nook he could hide in as well, right by the door. He may be able to slip behind her and leave if he could lure her in and just hope that she moved on to clean another part of the house. Deciding that that's what he'd do, he raised his mechanical arm and began rapping on a the wall opposite his little nook. He heard her mutter something down the hall and noted her footsteps approaching. With the maid on her way, he moved back across the room and hid in his spot.

The woman entered the room and looked around, not noticing John.
"Just what was that noise?" She said to herself, walking into the middle of the room. While she was distracted, John moved out of the spot he had hidden and snuck behind her. He was out the door in a flash, and rapidly moving towards the stairs, not a creak of the floorboards revealing his presence.
[color:b1c5=##669933]"Hmm. Must've just been a bird knocking on the window." Said the maid with a shrug before leaving to return to her cleaning by the stairs, the stairs that John was now ascending. John had, of course, made his way far enough up the spiral staircase that he was not visible to her. He needed to get off the stairs soon, though. There was nowhere to hide on these, and even if he activated his camouflage, he could still easily be bumped into with the relatively little space on the staircase. Now he was at a bit of a crossroads, though. Just where would the target's room be? On the second floor, or the third? If he searched the second floor, he could then continue up onto the third, but if the target was on the third floor, it would mean staying in the house longer and wasting time. Of course, if he skipped this floor and the target was there, he would have to double back to search it.
