Wait...your not dead?(social with rei)

It was nearly midnight in Talonia, a half moon in the sky helped illuminate the road below. Most of the businesses were closed and dark, while the night bars gave off the light in the streets. There was however one light that did not come from a bar, a window that once one would look into would discover their was bread and sweets, a bakery. It was an odd sight to see, and truth it was a experiment done by the owner. To see if the night crowd would enjoy late night sweets. And it did draw at least one hungry person.

The man entered the bakery as the bell on the door announced it, and the man behind the counter looked up. He didn't say hi, one could say it was because he looked like he either just woke up or was ready to sleep. Another could say was because of the odd customer, a man came in with a coat and a weird bird mask on(Appearence without lantern). The man behind the counter looked more awake now and watched the man with the bird mask walked up to the counter. He would had simply pointed at a couple of cupcakes, one of chocolate and the other yellow. "Those guy?" The man behind the counter asked, and the bird masked man looked to the side and pointed at one of the brownie slices and spoke for the first time since he entered, "A brownie slice with the couple of cupcakes and that should be it." It wasn't a rough or creepy voice but just ordinary. The guy nodded, felt a little odd on how the guys voice wasn't as he expected, but packaged the sweets all the same. The bird masked man gave him payment, took the bag, and left the bakery.

Outside in the night, the bird masked man looked up to the stars and gave a content sigh. Most people wouldn't like to be working this late at night, but for an odd reason he seemed to enjoy just being out at night. He would had then turned to the right to see something unusual. He would have kept staring as he wasn't sure if what he was seeing was a ghost or an actual person.

Rei sighed as she walked through the night... She'd been wandering through fiore alone for over a month and two weeks. she wasn't really keeping track... she would just see dates on signs and shops, so she knew it had roughly been that much time since she had left. Or more like ran away...

She had sold her shoes a week ago in exchange for food... she hated eating, it made her want to vomit since she only ate the bare minimum amount of food that sustained her body. If the stomach pains weren't so intense, she wouldn't bother with trying to satisfy her hunger pains. But this particular night.. her shriveled stomach was screaming at her to put something in it, her nose picked up on the scent of fresh sweets... it made her swallow as she walked by, stopping in front of the store, glancing in at the display cases of fresh baked sugary goods ready to eat. her chest felt like it was eating itself, but she was running out of things she even had to trade. she needed the clothes on her back, it was all she had left.

She leaned against the glass examining all the different types of breads and cakes, daydreaming of what they might taste like. but by the looks of a little boy with his mother gave her told her she should probably get going... the store owner would probably come out and yell at her for scaring away the customers.

She noticed a man sitting on a bench with a mask that looked like it had a long bird beak, like the plague doctor masks from books. She didn't pay any particular attention to him, though she did notice he was looking at her. it wasn't uncommon.. she always got looks wherever she went. but when she looked in the shop, she noticed the store owner looking at her. she sucked in her breath and quickly left the front of the shop, turning the corner into a nearby alleyway. The bakery probably had a trashcan she'd be able to find some old cakes in.

He watched her as she went around the corner into the nearby alleyway. He took a moment to gather what he saw. Sure he had seen homeless before, they were plenty in Thedas that were sick, burned, and all meager looking. But the woman he just saw, she looked so bad that he thought he was looking at a ghost. Though seeing her walk and turn the corner, he realized she was alive. He got up with his bag of sweets in hand and began walking to the alleyway she went down, noticing it was darker looking into it.

This meant that he couldn't see if the woman was still down here, however he could see movement in the darkness. He couldn't see spirits in the alleyway, so either the woman was alive or she was long gone. He took a deep breath before speaking out, "Hey one eye! You down here?" he would had waited standing there for a response, but he would had begun to felt uneasy. This was a good opportunity to ambush him from the shadows.

Rei could hear as this man followed her into the darkness of the alleyeay. She droze and stood against the nearby brick wall looking over to see the man illuminated by a street light behind him. She didn't want to be seen... Especially after he decided to identify her as "one eye" she shook with anxiety and hunger as she tried to run away deeper into the darkness but with her lack of depth perception she completely misjudged the distance of a trash can and flat out fell over it, hitting the ground and rolling on her side, coughing. She knew her body was getting weaker... Her bones wee more prone to being broken now.

She laid there, now covered in garbage knowing she gave away her location... She laid there, she didn't have the will nor strength to get up. she could feel the man walking towards her. he stopped, and age suspected he was some sort of phycopath like the one who had hurt her. As he got closer she curled into a small ball. "Please....If your going t-to hurt me, just kill me. Make if fast, if i could have a last request..." She said as she sniffed looking at the pavement, she expected him to at least kick or spit on her before turning back around and leaving her starving in the garbage. her one eye looked... gray, like she had already given up on herself, and something had sucked the color from her being.

He heard the rattle in response to his question and shrunk instinctively, however only silence followed the rattle and he didn't know what to think that was. He walked closer to the source of the noise slowly, unsure of what awaited him. He stumbled into a can, which caused him to stop moving momentarily. At this point he would had heard a woman's voice, it sounded feeble and she was asking for the end. Is that you one eye? he wondered to himself, but still couldn't see anything. He then looked up at the walls looking for something and found it above him on his right, an old lantern case mounted on the wall. The case creaked as it opened, their was no more fuel but he didn't need fuel. The man put his hand over the opening, and remembered the old torches that once light the way in the basement of the mages tower. The next moment a fwoosh could be heard, and the green fire started in the lantern case, illuminating the alley way.

With the light granting vision, he could now see what caused the noise. A garbage can was knocked over, spilling it's contents of cans and food scraps all over the ground. And there one eye was, covered in some of the garbage, and curled up with one eye on him. He still remembered her request from earlier, and spoke, "Kind of odd isn't it? Why would you kill someone that was already dead? Or looked it in the least." He knealt down to get a closer look at her, he had seen eyes like hers before among the broken and lost. He wanted to help her, heal her, nourish her, do something to help her out. But he knew they were many reasons why people ended like this, either by chance or by karma. Still he wanted to help, and he thought of something that can help both of them in this. "I have a proposition if you are interested. You tell me how you ended up looking near dead and I will give you some of these sweets I just bought. And just to make sure you know, I am not looking for a fight." He would had finished with that, still kneeling with the bag of sweets on the ground next to him. He would had waited patiently for a answer or some response.

Rei shot up quickly from her spot sitting up and scurrying away a few inches as the man turned the lantern on. she took shallow breaths, she leaned forward hunched over. but her spine could be seen through her torn and tattered shirt, her body was eating away at her muscles in attempts to get nutrients for her brain. she sat for a moment... listening to his proposition, she drew in a shaky sigh. Her stomach growled loud enough for the man to hear, and she hugged her stomach with her left and only arm before sighing, she didn't exactly have a choice... 


"its... a long story..." she started, but... she didn't want to explain every single little detail to someone wearing a mask, of all people. "I... was.. really really arrogant.. and, i got into a fight with this guy, in the guild i was in.. and, i tried to run off realizing his intentions but i couldn't. He broke a lot of my bones and stabbed me, and then he cut into my eye..." she never made eye contact with the holes in the bird mask the man was wearing. she continued "Then.. i saw him again, after my wounds had healed... for the most part.. i had.. i guess he was a boyfriend at the time.. but he decided to attack him and get revenge for hurting me, but that man.. ended up killing him and cut off my own arm... He's.. alive again now, but he's been turned into a bakeneko, so he has nine lives, but he took one of them." she sighed before going on. "he wasn't the same when he moved onto his 7th life, he'd never talk to me, or anything.. i had just lost my arm, i couldn't see straight, i struggle with everyday things, you could say that i'm handicapped. But we got into a fight, a really bad fight... so i ran away, and now ive just been.. wandering..." she finished, "can i have.. some of that now..?" she asked, her voice tinted with a sense of begging behind them.

He listened patiently to her story and as she told it he would had sat criss cross still in the same place. After she was done and asked for her reward, he would nod and pick the bag up and place it halfway between the two. He would had then followed after doing that, "The sweets are in there as promised, and if you wait here I would be willing to bring you more food. Of course, while I am gone you can take this chance to leave or hide, I rather not force someone to be in a place." Finishing that he would had got up and began to walk out of the alleyway and turned back into the bakery next door, leaving the woman alone with the green fire and the bag of sweets.

Once he turned to see the bakery he noticed that it was closed, it had seemed he left judging their would be no more business in the middle of the night. Zecarayus stood there momentarily but he wanted to get more of the bread and sweets for the woman. So he would had fade step, and to the normal eye it would appear that he blinked out of reality and instantly came back into the store. Once in he walked toward the glass and noticed the sweets were gone. So he went further into the kitchen and found a basket of dinner roles from the look of them. They were a day old but zecarayus did not have the eye to tell, he just thought they were bread to be served in the morning. So he took the basket filled with day old dinner roles and began to head to the door. His conscious though asked him for a favor, and left some jewels on the counter, he guesstimated and hoped it was enough to cover the price of the roles. After that he would had fade stepped again to get out of the shop, appearing to the normal eye of disappearing inside and reappearing outside. Once back outside with the basket of rolls in hand he would had gone back to the alleyway and would see if the woman was still there or not.

Rei took the sweets that he had handed to her, and tried not to eat them too quickly... she knew last time she did that, what she ate wouldn't stay where it was supposed to. She took out one of the cupcakes and started licking at the frosting... it was so much sweeter than what she was used to eating. probably because lately all she had been able to get her hands on was garbage, or old bags or things people would leave on tables outside restaurants. She had been shoo'd away by multiple places, probably because of her injuries, anorexic figure and messy hair. she licked all the frosting off, before starting to nibble at the mini sized cake. If this man was kind enough to see past her scary appearance to get her more food, she couldn't afford to say no... she continued to sit where she was, nibbling on the cupcake as her stomach growled for more. she looked up to see him again, this time with a bag filled with dinner rolls. they looked like they were a little old, but she could care less. she was just greatful to have something to keep the pain away.

He saw that the one eyed woman stayed where she was, and she had only started nibbling on one of the cupcakes when he returned. He could only assume why and he didn't bother to ask, he didn't want to sound like he was criticizing her when she was the last person to criticize in this moment. He would had stood there taking in the site, then he would had walked forward and would stop at the same spot where he sat and listened to her story. He would had bent down and put the large bag of dinner roles in the middle between them. "Consider the roles yours...the other part of the reward for telling me how you got like this." He would had said while he knelt looking at her, he then would had stood up and turned his head to look at the green fire in the lantern case.

There was nothing wrong with it, but he needed an excuse to think, even if it was for a minute or two. At this point the woman was trying to make the most out of what she had and it was meager at best. He didn't think that the woman was bad, even if he was wrong he thought he could easily deal with her if it came to it and still deserved some sort of help. So with this in mind he also wanted to know more about the guild she was in and the people involved, while it was a excuse to help her it was a chance to learn of other mages in fiore. And that way he may be able to keep fairy tail or himself informed. So after a couple minutes passed he would had turned his head to face the girl again. "I have another proposition for you. If you would be willing to answer some more of my questions, like your guild or the one who left you with such wounds or even a opinion on some things. And if you do I can offer you a place to sleep at least for tonight; Roof, mattress, pillow, blanket, and even some clean water. It is again your call." He would had finished and waited for a answer while standing there with his hands behind his back, he would had faced the green fire a little to had it so he wasn't directly facing her.

Rei sighed, yet again she couldn't deny something like this. At least if this stanger knew, someone would know her story... she didn't expect to live much longer, anyways. Rei bit her lip, before continuing to explain her past. "well... I'm from black rose, back in rose garden...." she started, "the one who... actually gave me these wounds... his name is Lucius, but i wouldn't mess with him... He'd do the same to you if you tried to fight him." she said, her voice quiet as she took another small bite of the cupcake. "The one i got into a fight with words.... his name is Neyvahn... Neyvahn Keyvolo... but... i wouldn't try talking to him either... hes completely irrational easily angered and clueless...he'd try to kill you without a real reason to" she added. looking up at the stranger again.

He listened and gave careful consideration to the names. No he had never heard their names, and even black rose was a new name to him. But if it taught him something, it was apparent that black rose kept dangerous company, and the girl before him a victim perhaps. After she was done speaking he nodded and spoke in a apologetic tone"Thank you..but now you will have to walk a little for the shelter I promised. Are you strong enough to walk?" He only asked because he knew she took a tumble from the cans and hasn't moved since the igniting of the veil fire in the lantern above them.

Rei looked up at him then down at her feet, and rubbed her side with her left and only arm. she began to try to stand up, stumbling with the imbalance in her body as she tried to do so but she managed to stand, leaning against the alleyway brick wall. "I'm okay... I can walk myself" she added, not wanting to seem so completely helpless she couldn't even walk on her own.

He nodded, unsure but he thought it would be better to trust the woman's word since she has been honest and not that withholding of information. "I'l carry these for you then...i'm sorry but I don't believe you'l be strong enough to carry these as well." he said and picked up the bag of dinner roles he had given her earlier. "Now please follow me, shouldn't be too long of a walk." he said and began to walk out of the alleyway, the green fire flickering and fading the further he walked away from it. From there he would had walked for about a block keeping to the light under the lamposts, not a difficult walk but he turned occasionally to make sure the woman was able to keep up.

After a few minutes of walking while being wary of any would be thieves, he would had stopped near a pathway that went up, one with no buildings nearby. The light posts didn't shine over the area, leaving it to dark to see for normal eyes. "Wait here." he would had said to her as he went forward. He walked in the near darkness until he felt the gate and felt for the lantern that hung there. He would had found it, and lite it with a green flame coming from the lantern. This would had illuminated the path zecarayus walked and for rei before her. "I neglected to tell you earlier but, you will be sleeping at a graveyard." he would have said, the gate was a sign that this was the talonia cemetery. He would have unlocked the gate with his keys and looked to see if she was still willing to sleep here. The light reflected a path way beyond the gate in the cemetary with it shining off of a few gravestones.
