    Raffles -- Another way to do it?

    So, I was thinking --
    Due to the fact that this site uses Dice, we could easily have raffles done MUCH quicker if the Dice were implemented.

    So you could have the following as prizes:
    Jewels - 1000
    Jewels - 5000
    Jewels - 10,000
    Jewels - 25,000
    Jewels - 50,000
    Jewels - 100,000
    Item Voucher - Strong
    Item Voucher - Strong+
    Item Voucher - Legendary
    Item Voucher - Legendary+
    Item Voucher - Artifact
    Item Voucher - Artifact+
    Item Voucher - Mythical
    Experience - 100
    Experience - 200
    Experience - 300
    Experience - 500
    Experience - 1000
    Special Item 1
    Special Item 2
    Special Item 3
    Special Item 4
    Special Item 5
    ----
    Basically, similar to what the other one was, however, the special items are pre-determined before the raffle has been created (listed in the original post). People could then, on the same thread they made the purchase, roll the Raffle Dice to see what they get. Of course, the better items would have a lower probability, but this would also make things faster, there won't be any camera issues, and this also removes any possible bias as well.

    Just an idea.
    Of course, the prizes could change as the above is just a simple example for the sake of this proposal.

    This was actually how the original raffle was done jus that I don't think the special prizes were listed in the thread(though they were pre-determined. Some may have been in the thread I can't remember). Problem being was that there was tons of posts to cycle through. Plus if someone made a mistake with the dice then it could cause issues. i.e. I accidently roll more dice than i'm meant to and i get an awesome prize on one of the extra dice. Some might get pretty annoyed about it.

    Besides, with the live drawing it becomes more of a social event (as I believe people can comment on the live stream and stuff) rather than just a 'i got money so i roll dice' event. Though I suppose with the raffle done this way there is a potential for bias, but if its a completely random draw I don't see that as being an issue.

    I'd say the main issue with dice though is two people rolling at near same time and both getting the same special prize. This would potentially mean someone only got that prize because they were a few seconds faster than the other person. There was also the whole 're-roll' thing of the previous one i.e. if you got a prize roll that someone had already won (e.g. one of the special prizes) you got to re-roll and that took time.

    In terms of the special prizes, I don't see why multiple people can't get the said prize. If the probability of getting that prize is... say 1%, the likelihood of a person getting that prize is 1/10 people (assuming that everyone gets 10 prizes) so that really isn't that big of a deal. Alternatively, if you set up the special prize being 1% with 5 special prizes, you could have someone who rolled the special prize call dibs on whatever prize they want and cross it off of the list of potential prizes that can be won. If all the special prizes have been claimed, then that just sucks then, huh?

    As for people rolling too many dice? The solution is easy. If they bought 10 tickets and rolled 11 times, then the first 10 that were rolled are what's obtained.

    About the inverse, how a person rolls too little, then they just keep rolling until they get to the number of tickets they bought.

    Though, this could also be mitigated with a friendly reminder, in the original post, of how to properly use the dice. If the players don't properly roll, then at least whomever is hosting the raffle covered their bases and it would be on the player's fault for not doing it properly.

    My real issue with the raffle being a "live event" is that things can definitely go wrong. The camera feed to go out or the recording could come up corrupted (like it did in the last raffle) where quite a few people didn't get all of their prizes and some of them were re-rolled because there wasn't any video evidence of it happening. While I understand doing it on twitch makes it seem cool and exciting, there can be a LOT of errors.

    Also, if it was randomly drawn, the person holding the raffle could potentially play out their own personal biases against a certain player that they don't like and grant them a bunch of weak prizes because they simply don't like the person.

    While the version I did suggest seems a bit too impersonal and less exciting, there is a dramatically lower margin of error, the results are near immediate, and there is absolutely zero room for bias. Of course, afterward, the staff would compare who bought how many tickets and compare it to how many rolls in the end, which also lowers the clerical errors as well as everything is VERY well documented.

    And besides, not many people have the time to watch a 4 hour stream...

    Another problem is the amount of work needed for the dice roll system version of raffle. Seijin and I both agreed that dice raffle was not something we were going to do after the first one. The dice alone are a mess of work needing to be done, on top of making sure each person rolls dice, and gets the rewards for the dice they roll.

    At least with the live streams, which are recorded so you don't have to watch, there's a single source for it and a smaller chance of user error. Plus there is usually someone writing down what was won by whom.

    I have to agree with Ayia on this one. In the time that we used the dice for a raffle event sure it was more efficient in informing people on what they got right off the bat it is also hazardous when having to out in all of the rewards that were won. The first raffle event it was clear you were supposed to out your winnings after your post and calculate it up for yourself. However many people didn't do that and it is time consuming and irritating to the staff to do the work other people were supposed to.

    The dice idea is efficient of used in the right way, but just for me there is no tension on what you will won like it is when you head or see it in person. It just isn't as fun. You don't have to watch the recordings they are just there to show that the drawing was fair. On this note. It may not be likely but the coding for the site And the die could be screwed with in order for people to get what they want.

    Like I said I like the idea for the dice but it just doesnt give the same satisfaction.

    And Imma be blunt. If you out a negative vote for this post because it is not an opinion that is shared.... Shame on you. These are not supposed to be judged by anyone and shot down as something bad.

    The only problem I have with using normal dice is that using the dice is a lot more... mundane. 


    It would take away from the experience.   And eventually the rewards would reflect that as well,  being less enjoyable or rewarding.

    I would like to see more games though, that use the dice.

    I'd like to see the dice used for more things.
    Perhaps even allow members to request dice to be added (which isn't hard if you don't care about images) to allow for randomness in applications e.g. I roll a d52 (as I have a deck of cards) and it just picks a random card from my deck to use as a spell or something.

    I personally like doing live stream because it lets the community see the face behind the character o.o

    I know using a dice is more efficient, but if the live stream is done right with proper prep work then there's not a whole lot to worry about. Additionally it's still a massive amount of prep work to be done. You still have to come up with the items, come up with the normal raffle items, get them all approved, (if doing live stream) make the cards for the items OR (if using dice) make the dice 'faces' for the roller. All in all, it's roughly the same amount of preparation required, if not more work using the dice method.

    If there's a concern for my rig exploding on me on saturday, belay those concerns (at least while I'm doing the stream). I have a second, and third laptop in my house all with OBS and web cams. If those suddenly explode, I have a cell phone, and X-Box and my neighbor has a kinect he'll let me use; I'd simply have to switch over to twitch for the stream, and if my xbox suddenly goes super-nova on me I have a tablet with a forward facing web cam and OBS isn't that hard to install, nor is it that big of a file. So there are many contingency plans for failed hardware... as for stream quality that's my only concern, but if the stream suddenly drops out I'd simply restart it and start drawing where the stream died. That shouldn't be an issue since I've got more bandwidth and internet speed than I can justify...

    My only absolute concern is people gouging out their eyes at how ugly I am x_x

    One thing you CAN do, which could be a compromise for both ideas..

    Live Stream Dice Rolls. Where the person live streaming it has dice made for the specific purpose of Raffles.. Show the screen region while they are streaming of the results on the forum.. and bam.

    That way it still remains random and people have a gathering place to chat and hang out?
    Maybe?
